Marissa stayed where she was, not very eager to come and join in with the conversation. Even though it was nice of Evan to try and invite her over, Mari knew that she would somehow mess up and make a fool of herself. She stayed where she was, glancing around the giant greenhouse and all of the plants. She knew that it will take a while for Claryssa to finish speaking, but she had to be patient for her sister.

Mari played with the buttons on her coat, a nervous tick of hers that she developed. Hearing all of the others laugh and joke around made Marissa feel even more left out, she wished she could join along but knew she could never do that. So as usual, Marissa sulked in the corner of the room, just like at home when Claryssa and James would go off and play together. Marissa would be left on her own to try and find something to entertain herself. Jealousy was a dangerous thing, so she made sure that her emotions for under control. She could probably come up with a daydream, like she always does, enter a kingdom of her own where she could speak like a normal person and have many friends like her twin sister. If only that could be true in real life.

Anatole looked around the large crowd. So many faces he had yet to meet, and eventually these people might become his best friends somehow. It seemed preposterous, unthinkable, since they did not have much in common besides all being wizards and witches at this prestigious school.

However, it seemed tangible.

As Rosie shook his hand quite firmly, a wide grin erupted across his face. All he thought about was how lovely she seemed for a friend. She seemed eager, able to keep Anatole on his toes. A Hufflepuff, even. Well, Anatole had no idea what that meant for their friendship. "I suppose you don't need a go-around on my part, since you know my name. For the rest of you all, I'm Anatole."

As he scanned the crowd, his eyes fell to the nervous twin of the two. Part of him wanted to go introduce himself, assure her that things were okay, that she did not need to fear a crowd. It was true, however. Crowds were only people clustered together. Nothing too intimidating.

However, the other half of him wished to stay out and let her meditate, grow to love the crowd by herself. The other twin certainly knew how to conquer crowds without fear, but she seemed different. A good kind of different.

Anatole took a breath, reaching out to the girl for a handshake. "Pleasure is mine," he commented to the shy blonde with a smile.

Marissa instantly looked shocked at the boy who tried to shake her hand. Why me? I’m standing all on my own, why couldn’t he just talk to anyone else. I am not that special? she instantly thought. She looked hesitant at first, not really sure how to properly do this. Oh god, what happens if my hands are clammy? Or I try to speak and nothing comes out? Or if he thinks I’m a weirdo? All these thoughts continued to rush through Mari’s mind. Quickly enough, Marissa shook the boy’s hand before quickly retracting her hand away.

She smiled nervously and rubbed the back of her neck, another nervous tick of hers. She gave her twin sister a worrying side glance before looking back towards the boy. He seemed ok, but she wasn’t sure if he was yet to become one of those pestering bullies. Without thinking, Marissa went back to playing with the buttons on her coat, her hands shaking slightly. Her cheeks were red from embarrassment as well as her eyes full of worry. Mari didn’t mean to be like this, it was something automatic that she could not really control. Stupid, he’s probably thinks I’m a weirdo, or that I have some weird disease. Mari continued to play these worries over and over again in her head.

Anatole studied her expression to himself. Nervous, quiet. It seemed like something Anatole had not observed before, yet it seemed oddly familiar. Maybe there was a Muggle friend he had that reminded him, or maybe someone in a story he had read. Either way, he would discover it somehow.

With a confident breath, he removed his hand from the handshake, still grinning. "Hope you feel better," Anatole whispered with a smile, "then we can be friends."

As the sky began to grow darker and darker into the day, the conversation continued to ensue. Friends became friends, Anatole had actually came into contact with humans who seemed taught on discussing topics with him as well. Part of him was shocked that it was not one-sided, just him lecturing deep about his lackluster past. In fact, he was sure that would bore them. However, every now and then his eyes would dart to the shyer of the two blondes. He never got her name, and part of him wanted to crack her out of her shell. It seemed simple to him, just slowly bringing her into situations she was not comfortable, and indefinitely she might get out of her shell.

"Relax," Anatole mouthed to her, hoping she could read lips. He knew she looked familiar, and maybe under that shell, there would be a gorgeous smile.

Marissa sighed, at least he was friendly. She knew she had to try harder, she needed to be able to speak on her own and not rely on pen and paper, or her twin sister Claryssa. She slowly calmed down, her therapist back home taught her breathing techniques for whenever she got nervous or frustrated for not being able to talk. They were extremely helpful. Slowly but surely, her hands stopped shaking and her faced returning to a normal pinkish colour.

She needed to come out of her shell. No doubt about it. But it was easier said than done. It’ll take a lot of time and effort but Marissa was determined to come out of her shell. You can do it, just try. Remember the breathing techniques. Make mother and father proud, they’ll be so happy if they find out you were able to say something. She continued to think to herself.

After a few moments of trying to calm hersef down, Marissa slowly walked towards Anatole. She nervously played with the buttons, trying not to show her worry. Breath, you can do this. She quickly tapped Anatole on the shoulder, trying to catch his attention. She smiled nervously and gave a small wave. Marissa opened her mouth to say something, hesitating and stuttering at the same time, trying to form a word. “H-he-hello.” Her voice sounded croaky in a way but also nervous, as small whisper.. he could barely hear it. She went bright red instantly, covering her mouth in shock. She just said her first word in probably years.

Rosie turned her attention towards Marissa, and she felt a small smile creep onto her face. She was cute, soft. She recalled Clary asking her to watch over Marissa, and she was still determined to do so. Rosie hadn't out loud said she promised, but she did promise herself mentally to make friends with Marissa, and help her feel as comfortable as possible. Was she a bit nervous she'd scare her with her odd amount of talking? Sure. But hey, she figured Marissa probably would meet worse people than a bubbly, talkative, tiny 11 year old.

"Hi!" She greeted Marissa from afar with a wave, hoping she'd come over to talk to Rose later. Maybe it'd be less awkward if they were talking in a group, or perhaps the opposite. Some people got overwhelmed by a lot of people around, Rosie knew that. At least they weren't alone entirely, she wasn't sure what kind of person Marissa was, other than mute/shy. She was happy and eager to get to know her regardless, though. Just like anyone else.

Rosie once again started her habit, bouncing on each foot. She figured they'd gotten used to it at this point, for they all needed to probably get used to who Rosie Parker was.

She speaks...?

Yes, Anatole was blatantly surprised at this girl's equally shy, small, and quiet voice making its entrance. It worked. He did it; he got her to speak.

He smiled sweetly as he turned around since she tapped him on the shoulder. Yes, of course she caught his attention. Anatole could barely believe it.

Yes, her smile was not as perfect as he expected, but like socializing, she had a bit of a ways to go.

He did not think before letting it release: a high, funny laugh. She did that? She JUST DID THAT?

Anatole quickly caught himself from emerging into a full-blown laughing fit once he saw her face. Well, no, he did not imply to hurt her in any sort of way.

He rotated his body fully towards her, tossing his hair and smiling once more, remarking "Hey." Anatole smirked at her childishly. "Sorry about the laughing, I'm not trying to be rude or anything else at all, I...uh...just didn't expect it, off the dot!" Once again, he harbored back to his point. "You'll be fine, and, well, I hope you're a fine person as you are. Friend?"

His brain could not take more of ignoring Rosie, well, she was just a hard person to ignore. Yes, Anatole was more revered and yes, she was relatively rambunctious and outgoing, but there was no connection he couldn't find.

Thankfully, Rosie kept her distance. A person like her too close could be intimidating to someone like Marissa. Anatole looked at her, waving from afar with a nod, acknowledging her wise move.

Rosie awkwardly smiled, noticing Anatole probably was handing it better, despite her being a little surprised by the fact he burst out into laughter. If it was someone else, she probably would've saw it as rude, but Anatole seemed like a sweetheart so far, so she let it slide as a gesture of trying to be friendly. Rosie leaned against whatever was behind her and went silent, waiting for Marissa to make a reaction.

Rosie had always thought she talked too much, but she didn't know any other way to make herself likeable to other people. I mean, if nobody's gonna talk, who would? Rosie would. The idea of complete, and awkward silence was one of her biggest fears. There had to be something. Something to entertain the other person in the convesation.

However, Rosie knew her limits. She knew when to stop. And this? This was one of those times. Rosie was smart enough to limit herself, she had the capability to be quiet too, apparently. But she liked to watch her potential new friends interact and develop their friendship. They could be like a nice little friendly group. And that's exactly what Rosie needed. If she was alone at this big, overwhelmingly big school, she wouldn't know what to do with herself.

Marissa was still in shock from what happened. She talked. This should have been a happy moment for the family, her mother, father and siblings. They should have been together as Marissa spoke. But she guessed it was not meant to be.

Mari was slightly offended at the boy laughing at her. Did her breath smell? Was her voice too weird? There were too many problems in such a small amount of time. Marissa went back into panic mode and played with the buttons on her coat, her cheeks going bright red again. Great, just great. He laughed at you so now he 100% thinks you are a weirdo. A way to go, Marissa. Such a nice thought, but she thought it was the truth. She sighed, standing away from the group again.

She promised herself she would not try again. Anatole laughed her for talking, the others could possibly the do exact the same thing again. Marissa ignored Rosie, not bothering to socialise again. She wanted to cry and run away, cuddle up to her mother and tell her what happened. But Mari knew she could no longer do that, so she stood by the entrance of the greenhouse and waited for Claryssa patiently. She promised herself that she would not cry in front of others.

Once again, Anatole watched Marissa. He felt bad. Yeah, he did the wrong thing. Now her face was almost red and she was about to cry.

Smooth, Evans. Smooth.

Yeah, he felt bad. It was like a knife hit his heart; his only chance of remote friendship with anyone, especially a girl, severed.

Anatole was never the kind to go out looking for love for his first day. Back in Muggle school, people would always shove two friends together and call it a couple. Hopefully here, they understood that being friends was just...being friends! After all, that's all Anatole wanted...

For now, at least. He was just a first year.

"Once again, I'm really really sorry," he commented. "I was stupid and surprised and made another bad impression of myself. He looked into her eyes. "Well, whatever you're thinking right now, I hope you think I'm not a terrible person. That's not really how I want to come off as." Wow. Those social skills kicking in again, hardcore. That was something his nanny emphasized upon. While other kids would stay silent, Anatole would ace presentations somehow. It was weird, awkward now. He never had to really apologize to a girl.

However, he knew one thing.

"I want to help you."
