Fool's gold, fooling everyone in sight
There was a curfew she should be abiding by, rules with consequences, not unlike her old Muggle school but the teachers back in Hackney never really followed through with implementing those consequences regardless of how many times you broke the rules. Rules made her restless, curfews...well Jo couldn't recall a time where she had one. Maybe back her mother had still been around but—despite Jo only being eleven years old—that seemed like a lifetime ago.
One thing Jo liked about Hogwarts thus far was how close the Astronomy Tower was to her common room. She was still adjusting to this new life, it all felt surreal and Jo didn't feel as if she belonged. Not that she'd made much of an attempt to belong.
There was no hesitance when she snuck out of the common room, sneakers scuffing along the stone floor as she shoved her hands in the pockets of her eldest brothers denim jacket. She'd packed it in her trunk in spite of his protests that she leave it behind because it was his. He barely wore the thing, much preferring the leather one because he thought it made him look rebellious. The thought made her lips twist into a smile, an amused snort leaving Jo as she reached the top of the Astronomy tower, pleased to find it entirely devoid of any other human life.
Just what she had wanted.
She sat on the cold stone ground, a slight chill in the air made her shudder and wrap the jacket tighter around her thin form. Back home she would climb onto the roof of the apartment building with Lachlan and they'd stare at the night sky for hours, talking about life, about their older brothers, their mother.
A sigh escaped her and Jo puffed out her cheeks. She'd write home tomorrow, tell them that she was okay. For now she'd be alone with her thoughts and the stars, laying back on the ground, she placed her arms behind her head and stared up at the sky, mouthing the name of each constellation once she spotted it in the sky.
"Ursa Minor, Cepheus, Cassiopeia," Jo mumbled to herself, one eye squinted as her left hand reached out to trace and invisible line in the sky her time interrupted by the sound approaching footsteps. She cursed to herself, sitting upright and glancing over her shoulder. The last thing she wanted was to be busted breaking curfew. "I swear," she said, green eyes squinting into the darkness as she tried to figure out who had busted her. "I just lost track of time."

The blonde Ravenclaw hadn't expected the night to go on as long as it had. So, when she was trudging up the steps of the Astronomy Tower - just little away from the West Tower, which contained her Common Room - she didn't expect to reach the top without collapsing. The first thing that she caught sight of were the stars. She hadn't ever been up to the Astronomy tower - she always found that it was too much of a trek, a journey, but now that she was here, she could see that it was definitely worth the hundreds of stairs that she had to climb.
She hadn't expected to see another person in the tower as well. It was well past curfew, and Felicity was in her pajamas, having trekked up there with her only Ravenclaw distinguishing feature being the robe that donned her shoulders, keeping her warm from the brisk air that seemed to hit her at all angles up there. She raised her hands, like she was surrendering, as she walked forwards, towards the girl, after being called out for lurking - sort of.
"It's fine, I won't tell on you," She replied, dropping her hands and pulling her robe tighter around her small figure. She looked up at the stars, walking over to the edge of a window, leaning her forearms against the ledge and looking out. From up here, she could see everything. The Great Lake, the rest of the castle, even one of the windows of the Ravenclaw common room she could spot - but only because she looked out of that window so often.
"It's beautiful up here, isn't it?" She asked the other Ravenclaw, recognizing her as Jo, from the Ravenclaw Table. The two had been introduced before, but weren't given much time to chat so far. She supposed now would be an alright time to really talk to her, considering they were the only two occupying the space for the time being. "You can see everything. Every constellation, every part of the grounds, it feels like.." She trailed off with a small sigh, looking back up at the night sky, "Though, I don't know any of the constellations. I just see plenty of stars." Felicity mumbled that part to herself, her eyes searching for something or other.
All she could think about was how amazed her twin would be with all of this. She would have to bring her up to the Astronomy Tower sometime, to see all the stars and perhaps look out of the telescope. At the moment, she hadn't the patience to steady the telescope and distinguish planets from stars. She looked over at Jo, smiling a little bit.
"Sorry, if I ruined your serenity. It must be nice to be up here alone."

The Teague's were supportive and loving but had their own rules for their daughter. Dymphna was expected to help out with the household chores without the use of magic. Her parents had taught her that hardwork led to success and that honesty was the best policy. Her grandparents taught her about her family history and to follow her heart. They were a tight-knit family and she missed them dearly while she was away at school.
Rules were there for a reason but even Dymphna could justify breaking a few minor ones. She would never venture into the Forbidden Forest but she had snuck out after curfew to go stargazing as it was nicer to see them out in the open, to feel the ground beneath her feet with her old trusty telescope in hand. In the end, she ended up making a new friend from her little adventure so breaking the rules every once in a while couldn't be too bad. The friendships that were forming felt important, as if she would still know them after graduation. Hopefully.
The Astronomy tower, despite it not being the exact same as watching from the grounds, was one of her favorite places in the castle. The Ravenclaw enjoyed Astronomy class greatly, feeling that the professor was truly passionate about the subject. There seemed to be some rumor going around that they were related to one another. Perhaps it was the fact that they had the same fair skin and blonde hair. Was the professor of Veela descent or Irish? She wasn't sure but with how close her family was, she was positive she would have known about her relation to a professor.
The weather seemed to be chilly, the same as it was a few nights ago when she visited the tower, and this time she was better prepared. A cardigan wrapped tightly around her then also heavy black robes to try and hide in the shadows if someone made their way down the corridor towards her. Thankfully, she had made it to the tower without any incident. Slipping through the door to the roof, she spotted two girls. One was familiar but the other was not. "Felicity," she called out to them, "who's your friend?"

Excuses began to run through her mind and Jo was ready to fire them all at the professor who had busted her. She scrambled to her feet, almost tripping over herself in the process. The person who stepped forward though wasn't a professor and immediately felt idiotic when the girl spoke.
"Oh gosh." Jo cringed at her foolishness, bringing her hands to her face and squishing them against her cheeks as she shook her head. "I thought you were a professor," she explained, finally recognising the other girl as a Ravenclaw, the pretty blonde she recalled talking to briefly during the feast.
Jo nodded in agreement. "I love it up here." It had quickly become her favourite place, while the entire castle was enchanting in it's own right the Astronomy towers solitude and serenity reminded her of back home. A pang of sadness hit her gut. While Hogwarts was exciting, it still didn't feel like home and the brunette hadn't adjusted to being so far away from her family yet.
She pushed the thoughts of homesickness away, focusing her attention on the night sky. "Tonight is especially clear," she said in response to Felicity's observation. "Depending on the time of year you can see different things."
"You didn't ruin anything, it's nice to have company. It's Felicity isn't it?" Jo asked, finally looking away from the sky towards the girl. "I remember you from the sorting ceremony." She'd met a lot of people that first night, it had been almost too overwhelming but the people at the Ravenclaw table had stuck out the most, especially with their conversation about classes and what they were most looking forward too.
It seemed like she wasn't the only one with the idea to visit the Astronomy tower that night. Soon another joined them. "I'm Jo," she waved at the other girl, gesturing for her to come join them.

Felicity listened to the girl with interest. Interest that was so deep, that she could only nod her head in response to her asking if her name was, in fact, 'Felicity', and was actually startled when another voice was heard. Her body jumped, and she turned around quicker than you could say 'butterscotch'. Oh, She thought to herself, her hand over her heart, It's only Dymphna.
Dymphna was one of the girls who was with Felicity in the Dormitory of Sybill Trelawney. She was gorgeous - with long, straight blonde hair, and beautiful blue eyes that struck Felicity with a pang of envy. She was envious of her twin for the same reason - She was a sucker for blue eyes. She smiled after a moment of recovery, and looked over at Jo, who introduced herself.
"Hi Dymphna," She greeted the other Ravenclaw girl, switching her gaze back to her. Apparently, all three of them could have used a night up in the Astronomy Tower. Perhaps, Dymphna was curious rather than needy for the tower. Felicity, herself, needed an escape for the night. She couldn't help but feel like she could use one, after how the day's events panned out. "What are you doing up here?" She inquired, curious.
Oh, how often was she curious? At least ten, twenty times a day. She vaguely remembered the saying, 'Curiosity killed the cat', but, well, Felicity wasn't much of a cat. And she wouldn't die for being curious, would she? She shook her head at herself, she was getting carried away by her own thoughts, and there were people right in front of her! Her parents always did scold her for tuning out of conversations, saying that it was always beneficial to listen, that you could learn more about a person by listening to a conversation. It kind of made her roll her eyes - she could find out more about people if she wanted to.

"Sorry. I wanted to have a look," Dymphna held up her telescope, hoping that she hadn't startled them both too bad. She hadn't even noticed that Felicity had left the dorms. Sneaky. It seemed like now she had another person to go to if she wanted to have a late night adventure with some company. "I didn't even see you leave," she told Felicity, moving to stand next to the other girls.
Being curious and having a love of learning was probably what got her sorted into Ravenclaw to begin with. The girl who introduced herself as Jo was in a different dorm. She wondered if it was refreshing to hang out with people outside of the dorms. No matter how friendly her dorm mates were, Dymphna felt like it was easy to get annoyed with them since they were around one another so much. She hadn't shared a room with anyone before so it was a new experience for her that she was still getting used to. It wasn't so bad, less lonely being in a group where everyone missed home too.
Looking through the telescope, she spotted the waxing gibbous moon. With a telescope, it was easy to see the craters. The time of year held many sites to behold which is why she went stargazing whenever she had the chance. Unfortunately, the planets weren't out during the day or they would be able to see them align. Now that would be a rare sight! Despite being called the Summer triangle, the winter months were the best time to view the three stars that formed it -- Altair, Deneb and Vega. Even without her telescope, she could see Cygnus the Swan. With a sigh, she felt herself instantly relax. Turning to the girls, she asked, "So how are you liking school so far?"
