Astronomy  PV Miranda Everest   CLOSED

Today was one of the few days that jo and her classmates weren't up for astronomy in the middle of the night. But the classroom was a bit more cramped than usual because it was double astronomy with Ravenclaw. It wasn't anything to complain about though, actually, it was great because some Ravenclaws would answer every question the teacher asked. It was another nice early autumn day, but they couldn't go outside, instead, the had to gaze at what Jo thought was the most boring Scottish sky. Jo sighed and leaned back onto her chair, she was still upset about how she felt. She felt like she just woke up from a very long nap like she just appeared out of thin air from the secret blossom ball almost 4 months ago. She couldn't talk to her friends. One of them left Hogwarts which jo thought was a bummer and she was down about. Her second friend she couldn't talk to.. she would if she could but she just can't find him anywhere. She sighed as she raised her hand to ask the teacher a question, she usually never did this and it was odd.. for anybody that was paying attention to her for the last few weeks. She noticed another girl raise her hand, her hair was what Jo thought was platinum blond. She for some reason felt competitive, she thought she was a Ravenclaw, but couldn't tell because everybody was wearing their black robes, and jo's stood out the most because they seemed the oldest and they probably were, her parents got them second hand.

Miranda wasn't the best at Astronomy, mostly because she had a hard time memorizing the placement of all the stars. But she was still interested in learning more, even if it didn't stick for long. Besides, she managed to write most of the newfound knowledge down as notes, so the majority was still there, as long as she didn't lose the papers.

She tore her gaze from the notebook and glanced up at the professor, raising her hand to ask a question. While she waited, she looked around the classroom, and spotted another girl with long red hair also with her hand in the air. Miranda was unsure as to her house, but guessed she was a Slytherin, because she knew the majority of the Ravenclaws in the room.

It didn't take long for her to look away again, studying the ceiling, then her notes again. She found her thoughts straying back to her brother, who she had yet to hold a full conversation with since he started coming to the school. It was troubling, to say the least. But she sort of had a plan for fixing it - she hoped.

Before long, Miranda glanced around and spotted the other girl again. Perhaps it was the faint annoyance she felt about her brother, but she couldn't help frowning.

Jo after asking the question and getting the answer couldn't help but notice the girl who raised her hand before frowning at her. Had she done something wrong? Why was the girl annoyed at her? Did she think the question was stupid? Jo thought most of the astronomy was stupid. Well, what's the point of studying the position of large balls of gas out in the space, to study the future? To guess what things might happen? That sounded more like fortune-telling to her. Jo could easily grasp the concept and memorize most of the things, but she would forget them when the next class started. She gave the girl frowning at her a confused glare, she had Almost white hair, which she thought was cool but a bit out of place in the classroom filled with browns and blacks and reds. She thought for a bit and decided to do it, it was probably stupid but hey there's no point in acting smart if you're bad at things. She turned to look at the girl and mouthed "what wrong?" and couldn't help but make her face look annoyed, she was a bit. She was upset that she had somewhat vanished from her friend group and that her friend left school. But most importantly she felt stupid for inviting a friend to the ball with her and then not even talking or seeing him during or after the ball.
Perhaps it was the thought of her not talking to her friends or the fact that this was in Jo's opinion the most boring class in Hogwarts that made her annoyed at everything that went wrong in her eyes.

The girl with the red hair, to Miranda's surprise, looked over, meeting her gaze with a confused glare of her own. Well, that hadn't been the Ravenclaw's intention. Maybe her expression had been a bit more fierce than she'd thought. In that case...it made sense the Slytherin probably felt a bit disgruntled.

Although, when the girl mouthed the word's "what's wrong?", she couldn't keep back a small grimace. Apparently, her suspicion had been correct. In that case, no wonder the other girl looked annoyed.

"Nothing,"
she mouthed back, although a small frown still stuck to her face. Miranda couldn't help it - her expression refused to change. She lowered her hand, the question she'd wanted to ask completely forgotten for the time being. The girl almost reminded her of that other boy she'd met - the one from Slytherin that had pretty much ruined her day. Maybe it was the similar way they'd met, although hopefully things wouldn't end up as badly. That would be...annoying at best, or she'd end up regretting it horribly at worst.

But maybe it wouldn't come to that. Not that ignoring the other girl was really an option, but if it could forestall any arguments of annoyances...maybe it would be worth it?

This wasn't the reply Jo wanted to hear at all. She hated it when things were unclear. She always liked it when things were clear and quick. She sighed and felt herself getting more annoyed. "What's up with the grimace then?" she mouthed still giving her occasional glares to see if she noticed her question. She started to scribble on her parchment, the lecture was the most boring one yet in Jo's opinion. She sighed and leaned back in her chair. She thought this was going nowhere, she was barely learning anything, and the girl most likely wouldn't reply to her questions with anything that would satisfy her curiosity. All she wanted right now was for class to end so that she can go and look for Her friend Charles. But she knew this would happen for a long time, Astronomy was one of the longest classes in her opinion that she had to take. I mean 5 years of Astronomy every week? She had heard about O.W.L.s from some 4th years studying to pass them. She thought it was absurd how much O.W.L.s matter to wizards and witches, I mean she did want to pass them but she thought it odd the amount of work people put into to study for them for what could be 2 years.

She sighed and looked out the great window, they weren't supposed to look out of it right now, they usually did so at night through telescopes, Jo never thought she would long to be out of class so early ever in her life.

After the girl replied, Miranda didn't answer immediately, perhaps trying her 'ignoring' theory. It didn't last long, however, and soon she found herself making eye contact with the Slytherin again. "Sorry," she mouthed, "I didn't mean it." Unfortunately, the disgruntled expression still didn't fade, most likely undercutting her words.

She tried to take her mind off of the thoughts that were preoccupying her of late. Hopefully, if she could think of something else, maybe her expression would go to something more agreeable and this uncomfortable "conversation" could be put behind her. Besides, it was making her lose track of the lesson, which was something she did her best to never do.

Miranda tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, then turned her focus back to the lesson that was being held, although she still snuck occasional glances at the other girl to see if she ended up replying. Which, coincidentally helped her mostly keep her mind off of her brother, and the recent fiasco of Quidditch that Cedar had gotten her into. And which she'd still yet to do anything about, meaning, the next time a game came up, Miranda would be playing instead of watching from the stands...yeesh.

This is going NOWHERE Jo thought, as much as she wanted this class to be over this was the quietest by far, everybody was focused on their work which made it a good class to think through things because you were rarely interrupted. As joes mind was tinkering with thoughts she looked at the girl, and without thinking twice or as usual, she does when talking to new people thrice she mouthed "Wipe the frown off your face then" this shocked Jo, she rarely ever talked that way and that was when she was struggling with homework, and she had to take her anger out on something other than her cactus to which she gave death stares. She always thought that she had an Okay way of coping with being annoyed, but right now she didn't care, her mind just kept tinkering, if anybody could open up her head and let out the sound it made without telling them her thoughts they would hear the sounds of machines and gears clicking, banging and every other thing that would make you wake up at night. She was falling asleep with all the thoughts when she woke up. She dreaded going to even close her eyes, every time she did she would be sent for what seemed to be hour and hours on end in complete silence alone, it was so uncomfortable and terrifying that Jo has barely slept for the last week.

Miranda scribbled down a note furiously, then glanced back up at the other girl just in time to see her mouth more words. The Ravenclaw thought over that for a moment, and her face grew even more annoyed. Okay, now she was purposely frowning at the girl. Why did she care what expression Miranda's face had? All she had to do if she didn't like it was look away - or better yet, pay attention to the professor.

She debated telling the Slytherin that, but didn't really feel like continuing the antagonism. No doubt in the other girl's mind, it felt like she was in the right. And Miranda couldn't blame her -she had been the one to glare first, even if it hadn't been the most purposeful thing.

"I said I'm sorry," Miranda finally mouthed back, glancing cautiously at the professor to make sure she wasn't caught. "It's not that I'm mad with you, honest." Well...to be entirely truthful, her newly annoyed expression was due in part to the girl, but if things were going to get better, at least minimally, she would do best to not mention that. Miranda already had enough people that disliked her - why try to add one more to the list, at least before her stubborn nature got her into trouble yet again.
