Reunions and Goblins
She had got taller. That was the first thing he noticed when he spotted her at the Great Hall that morning.
They hadn't seen each other since the start of the summer, when both Cormac and his father had been round at the Teague's. Arcturus was good friends with Dymphna's aunt, Dioreann, and had also worked for his grandfather, Fergus, back in the day, when he studied Magical Creatures all over Northern Europe. Cormac's mum had been on the same year as Dymphna's parents during Hogwarts, and had grown quite close to the both of them. And so the Teague's and the McCarthy's had always shared a bond.
Cormac remembered being mates with Dymphna since the beginning of times: brewing fake potions in his kitchen, pretending to be Quidditch stars in her backyard, trading chocolate frog cards together... They also bickered and bantered sometimes, and Cormac was fed up with his grades being constantly compared to Dymphna's perfect ones. The fact that she was now considerably taller bothered him greatly, too. But that was just part of their friendship, after all.
"Hey, Dymphna!" Cormac called, and sat down right beside her at the Ravenclaw table. "Been a while since we last spoke. Are you always this busy 'round here?"
As he helped himself to some toast, Cormac pulled out a parcel from the inside pocket of his robe.
"Here," he said as he placed it in front of Dymphna. "You remember that discussion you had with my dad about the Goblin Rebellions back in July? Well, he got this Insight on Goblin's History over the summer and wanted you to have it. Didn't get the chance to give it to you earlier."
He chewed his toast and spoke again.
"It looks pretty boring, to be honest. But since you're weird like that, I presume you'll read it anyway."
