Rafa was kind of bored.
People were getting sorted, people were yelling. Rafa's ears hurt. He was hungry. He hadn't eaten since he boarded the train. And quite frankly, he was irritable. What was the big deal? Weren't people sorted every year? What was special about these new ones? And still, as the minutes wore on, the students clapped for the new arrivals, as if their lives depended on it.
Rafa wasn't used to this much people. It was a little overwhelming, actually. There were so many unfamiliar faces, and it made him slightly uncomfortable. Actually, this whole magic thing made him uncomfortable. Sure, it had always existed, but now he could see it in a whole new light. It was tricky and fickle, and every time Rafa thought he understood it, the meaning slipped out of his grasp. This irritated him to no end, because he was supposed to be good at everything. He was Rafa. He could defeat anything anyone threw at him.
But with every passing moment, it seemed more impossible to defeat the monster of Hogwarts.
Out of the corner of his eye, he caught the waving of hands. His eyes caught a familiar face from across the room, at the Sytherin Table. It's that girl from the train, he thought. A Slytherin? Didn't see that one coming. He sent her a nod, smiling at the familiar face. Maybe he wasn't totally alone.

Wren loved the attention. She bathed in the recognition of her fellow Gryffindor. When she had heard the Sorting Hat shout the one word she longed to hear, she had been elated. Gryffindor was for the brave, the strong, and she considered herself the perfect candidate, she guessed that the Hat had too. she thought it kind of odd that a talking hat decided which house they were in for the rest of their lives at Hogwarts, but it was what it was. She was a bit new to the Wizarding World as she had not been raised to believe in Magic. In fact, she had been raised to believe that magic, and wizards were not real. Her parents were very anti-magic, but they were very supportive and decided that it would be good for her to go to Hogwarts. As she was walking to the Gryffindor table, she spotted a boy she thought she had seen on the train. He looked maybe 11, and a first year. He had brown hair, chocolate brown hair, and he was normal height and pretty fit, to say the least he was a pretty handsome guy. "Hello" she said sitting down next to him., "My name is Wren Caster, i'm new the the whole Hogwarts thing. What's your name?"

Rafa leaned his head on the table, trying to stay sane during the tedious ceremony. Where is the food? His stomach was going crazy, silent alarms going off all over his body. His metabolism was killing him. Why won't they just hurry this up...
"Hello," he heard.
Rafa turned tiredly, taking sight of a girl he had never seen before. She looked first-year age, with soft brown hair and bright brown eyes. Her skin was porcelain, her face bright, as if it were smiling at him. She was smiling at the moment, her pretty lips upturned in a way that just made Rafa happy. "My name is Wren Caster," she said. "I'm new to the whole Hogwarts thing. What's your name?"
Rafa considered her for a moment. She was a Gryffindor, like him. She seemed comfortable around him, like she wasn't shy. Who is Wren Caster? "Rafael D'Spacito," he told her slowly. "Call me Rafa." He scratched his hair tiredly, his face scrunching up in a yawn. "The boy who doesn't want to be here." He made this last comment wryly, is boredom flooding into his voice. He glanced at her again, trying to find anything - a reaction, a word - that could explain her.

"Interesting. You'd think since everyone in the wizarding world went to a school specifically for wizards, that they'd actually want to go to Hogwarts. As I understand from everyhting i've from the info i've gathered that Hogwarts is the best wizard school in the world. All the big wizards have gone here. Sorry, I tend to talk a
lot, if I get to rambling just tune me out. So, whats your favorite food? Mine's sushi. Do they have that here? I hope they do. I am really in the mood for sushi." Wren looked around and saw all kinds of people there. There were some that looked like they were in their late teens, kids that looked about the same age as her, she saw black people, white people and many other races. She looked up at the teachers table. "Most of those teachers are old." She thought to herself. She saw maybe one or two teachers that looked to have been in their mid 30's but none younger than that. She turned her head to see if anyone was eating. They were not much to her dismay. Her stomach was growling so much and so loud that people around her were beginning to question. So she decided to ask a question, to ease the tension and get the embarrassment off her. "So, what's you backstory?"

The girl started rambling off, which surprised Rafa. She had an energetic air to her, as if she was buzzing with unburned energy. The feeling seemed to be contagious, as Rafa found himself sitting up in his seat, a grin growing on his face. "Wait, slow down," he said, a sound of laughter to his voice. "Here, I'll answer your questions." He leaned on his arms, looking down the table for a moment. "I like empanadas. They're not really from around here, though, so I don't expect to see them tonight." He threaded his fingers through his hair thoughtfully, a nonchalant smile on his face. "I thought sushi was a Japanese thing, but you don't really look the type - no shade, of course." He rubbed his neck. "I'm Argentinian. Moved here three years ago. It's better if you don't ask why." He gave her a smile, raising his eyebrows in a friendly way. "Point is, I don't get out much. Oh, and I know squat about magic. Fun, right?" His stomach growled audibly. Where is the food...
The moment this thought occurred to him, food popped onto the table. Rafa could barely think, his body moving before he could stop himself. His plate was soon full. They do have empanadas...

As food appeared in front of her (her favorite sushi!!!) she looked over at Rafa. The way his face lit up, when the empanadas came up on his plate, it was a priceless moment and Wren wanted to see it again. When he got exited his face scrunched up a bit and his eyes lit up as bright as the sun despite them being chocolate brow. Yes, she definitely wanted to see that again. As she dug into her vegan sushi, she wondered how it was made. Oh, no she almost spit it out. It was made by the house elves, I do not support slave labor, though I guess it's not slave labor anymore since Hermione Granger, made the petition to get the house elves a salary. Now that she thought about it, this sushi was probably the best she'd ever had. I tasted like the last time she'd been to that famous sushi restaurant in Austin. "What's it called?" she thought. "Oh yes, Sapporo!" she accidentally said aloud. "Oh, shit. Did I actually say that aloud?" she thought. "Oh no, I did..." "I-It's a-a Japanese recreant I go to g-get m-my sushi. I-its really good, a-and pretty famous." she blushed at Rafa, a bit embarrassed.

Rafa was a little taken aback by Wren’s sudden outburst. It wasn’t that it was unwelcome – it just startled him. Rafa had never been too fond of jump-scares, that was for sure. She seemed very fond of her sushi, though – this amused Rafa quite a bit. Sapporo… yeah, he felt like he had heard that term somewhere. Where, he wasn’t exactly sure. But it definitely interested him.
Without really thinking, he took a piece of sushi off her plate, and took a bite of it. Yeah, he probably should have thought before hopping right in and taking what he wanted. It just seemed like too much work, and quite honestly, he didn’t feel motivated enough to do it. Though, the sushi was pretty good – he wasn’t about to lie and say it was nasty, or anything. It wasn’t what he was used to, though. He set the piece of food down on his plate.
“Wow,” he muttered – the sushi had a little kick to it. He instinctively reached for his goblet, thankfully full of milk. It was quite a hilarious scene – he nearly knocked over his goblet to get it to his mouth. He was sure Wren would laugh at him – though, he was sure he wouldn’t mind. He was laughing at himself. It wouldn’t be long until milk came from his nose, he was sure of it.

Rafa reached over and took a piece of sushi.
Wren was usually pretty protective about sushi, but at Hogwarts the food was unlimited, so she was okay with it. The sushi was a bit spicy, but Wren loved spicy foods as she had a high tolerance for ‘em. Rafa began to reach for his goblet, obviously getting a bit of a kick out of the sushi. She was eating her favorite California rolls with a tab of hot sauce. Rafa picked up the goblet so fast and began to chug the milk. It was so hilarious that Wren began to choke on her sushi she was laughing so hard. He was drinking the milk as fast as the goblet could fill up, everyone around them began to glance over at the comical scene. Since Rafa had tried her sushi she wanted to try his empanadas she though he had called them. She began to ask for a bite but decided that she would wait until he was done chugging his milk. Wren decided to have him try another piece of non-spicy sushi to help try to get rid of the spiciness. “Here Rafa, try this one. It’s not spicy like the last one.”

“Here Rafa, try this one," Wren told him. "It’s not spicy like the last one.”
At the thought of eating sushi again, he nearly gagged – perhaps he wasn’t ready for it just yet. Plus, his tongue still felt like it had been lit on fire – the water he chugged didn’t seem to have any effect on the eternal burning. He winced at the sight of Wren – hopefully, she wouldn’t be too put off if he declined. Right?
“Erm,” he started, a stifled sort of grin on his face, “I think I’m good. Thanks for the offer, though – I’ll try it some other time, when my stomach’s not doing… somersaults….”
He covered his mouth, feeling like he was going to vomit or something. Choking back the reflex, he put a funny little grin on his face. “You, eh, want some of my empanadas?” he asked Wren. “They’re not spicy.” That last part was most obviously a joke, in the way that he so pointedly said it. However, it wasn’t a joke of ill intent – it was more of him trying to get a laugh out of her or something. She seemed like the nice sort, the kind everyone wanted to make friends with. And God knows how many friends he had right now.
“Here, I’ll cut you a deal. You eat an empanada, and I eat your sushi. Capisce?”

"Sure! I was actually just about to ask if I could steal one of your empanadas
“You, eh, want some of my empanadas?” he asked Wren. “They’re not spicy.”]
Wren laughed, of course she wanted an empanada why else would she have asked? Rafa was pretty funny. He was the type of friend you wanted to have around for a long time, the type of friend you could count on for anything, anytime. He was the type of loyal friend Wren wanted, no needed. All Wren's life she had, had friends that she had thought were loyal, but when the time came that it really mattered they left her for someone else. She was a little bit skeptic of Rafa though, because that was what she had been back in Texas to be wary of her friends. Maybe it was her fault she didn't have friends, she doubted, but maybe Hogwarts would be the chance she needed to make life long friends. She hoped Rafa would be one of the long standing friends, He really seemed nice and funny.
Hey Rafa? Woukd you want to hang out after the feast? As friends of course? If you don't that's ok I will understand, she got close to his face and said "Only if you give a good enough explanation" then she laughed, That was meant to be a joke!
