OOC: Feel free to hop in if you'd like! This is going to end in some not so good news from her family! I'll give it some time open if anyone wants to join and then keep going with the story, need it for my character development either way!
Lark managed to rush down to breakfast a bit earlier that morning. It felt better to have a sort of routine and rhythm to the day finally. Her time at Hogwarts had allowed her to finally settle in much more. She hadn't much homework to do over the weekend and caught up in Potions thanks to Dale's help, which was an immense weight off her shoulders. She had even had time earlier in the week to write up and send an owl out to her father again and another to her Gran. Lark was beyond tears at this point and had gone from angry and hurt to just plain worried. The silence from her family was not something of typical behavior. They were always so nosy with what she was doing and shared just about everything.
Making her way into the Great Hall, Lark found a quiet spot at the Ravenclaw table to sit at. There didn't seem to be a whole lot of others up this early, which made for an eerily silent Hall. She assumed this early in the morning on a Saturday most everyone was taking advantage of sleeping in. Setting her journal next to her on the table she began to grab at the passing stacks of toast that floated by her on their way to the other end of the house table. There was something about warm buttery toast and raspberry jam that always made her feel at home.
Grabbing a couple hard boiled eggs and setting them gently onto her plate, Lark reached for the salt and looked around. There was an older looking girl sitting not too far from her. Leaning onto the bench with one arm and motioning towards her, Lark spoke quietly but loud enough for the girl to hear. "The post hasn't come yet has it?" Hoping she hadn't interrupted the girl's train of thought, Lark gave a warm smile. Maybe by now her father would have gotten the owl and had time to write back about her baby brother. Hopefully today her family's barn owl would turn up. If she was being honest she just wanted to hear something, anything from them.
"Not yet." The girl replied with a nod before returning to her own breakfast. Fewf. Lark braided her hair to one side so it lay neatly over her right shoulder out of the way. Digging into her breakfast she opened her journal, pen in her free hand and started scribbling down her thoughts on the past week.

Quinn hurried down to the Great Hall, grinning broadly. Their very first morning at Hogwarts. It felt like the beginning of an entire new life.Interacting with: @Lark Flaer
The youngster was an early morning person, and today, they had gotten up even earlier than usual. How could they possibly have stayed in bed when everything was so marvellous and there were so many rooms and corridors to explore? Quinn had already been roaming the still-dormant castle for about an hour when they saw some students descending to the Great Hall and decided to follow them.
They slowly pulled open the large door, in a careful motion so it would not creak and alert everyone in the Hall, then squeezed through, took a deep breath and looked around.
Candles were hovering above the tables, and Quinn marvelled at the spell that must have been placed on them so the wax would not drip. The ceiling seemed to open up into the morning sky; the first-year made a mental note to ask a Professor how to achieve that effect.
After taking it all in, Quinn started to look at the students more closely, and identified the different tables: Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin. They knew they were probably supposed to take a seat at the Gryffindor table - but at this time of day, it was still eerily empty, the plates with warm buttered toast floating above it untouched, and Quinn hesitated to be the first to sit down there.
However, there was a girl at the Ravenclaw table who seemed quite interesting to them with her white hair - was it this colour naturally or had the Ravenclaw dyed it, and why? - and the notebook by her side which she was furiously scribbling into.
Quinn pulled back a chair and sat down, happily taking two pieces of buttered toast and tucking into her breakfast. It tasted heavenly - like a warm, buttery hug for her tastebuds. Even though buttered toast was such a simple meal, Quinn greatly adored it.
"Hey!" She smiled at the Ravenclaw. "I'm Quinn." Not entirely sure what to say next, she waited for the girl to reply.

Murmuring to herself as she took another bite from her toast, Lark set her pen down and stretched her hand for a moment. She didnt realize how much writing would be involved with school and a lot of her homework had been note taking and research so far. Rubbing the ache from the palm of her hand, Lark stretched her back as she sat up straight, a small yawn escaping her before returning to her journal.
There was a shift in movement next to her as she heard someone take a seat. 'Oh great, I wonder if James finally woke-' Raising her golden eyes from the journal she saw an unfamiliar face looking at her. "Oh I uh-" What's more is they were in Gryffindor robes. Lark only really knew Maggie from Gryffindor, this was a surprise.
"H.Hello!" Lark stammered feeling a bit thrown off but excited to meet what appeared to be another new first year. "I'm Lark Flaer." Closing her journal, Lark held out a hand in greeting. "Nice to meet you Quinn." She looked the Gryffibdor up and down, how interesting they had chosen to sit with her. Their brown hair reminded her of Dale, a bit untamed and wisping over their pale green eyes. A blush set onto the girl's cheeks as she cleared her throat trying not to seem awkward and stare at the fellow first year.
"I uh.. toast?" Lark prodded the floating rack of toast towards Quinn in offering. 'Dummy, they already have some! Lark noticed a piece already set on the student's plate. "Sorry, heh. I still feel a bit tired." She gave a smile and looked towards the Gryffindor table then back to Quinn. Had they really chosen to sit here and not with the rest of their house? She hadn't expected anyone to actively choose her over housemates for breakfast. It made her blush a bit once more.
"You're a first year like me ya?" Smothering another helping of jam on fresh slices of toast, Lark tried to make conversation. "I feel like the first couple weeks 'ave been so busy! Are you enjoyin' your classes? Honestly, Potions has given me a right good scare... How's Gryffindor? Ay've only met one from that house so far, Maggie. She's really nice!" Biting into a piece of toast Lark felt herself drool instantly. The house elves really did know how to make some amazing jam. Wiping at her mouth with her napkin, Lark continued.
"Sorry. Don't mean ta overwhelm ya with questions." Giving another warm smile she tried to stop her mouth from continuing so Quinn had time to reply. Shoveling another piece of toast into her mouth to quell her curiosity.

Quinn listened to the girl's friendly chattering, a bit startled by her strong Scottish accent - was it even Scottish? They made a mental note to not mention her accent, in case they were getting it wrong - but still able to understand everything the Ravenclaw who had introduced herself as Lark was saying. There was a tiny moment of discomfort, when Lark asked them whether they wanted to take a piece of toast even though they already had one and Quinn had no idea how to react, but Lark quickly corrected herself excusing the mistake with tiredness - which Quinn could understand very well.Interacting with @Lark Flaer
After Lark had stopped talking and tucked into her buttered toast, Quinn tried their best to answer all of the Ravenclaw's questions.
"Well, yes, I'm a first-year too." They smiled - however small, this was a similarity between them, which was perfect for a beginning friendship! "And classes are great. Not too hard either. The Astronomy teacher is cool, but as a subject, I really enjoy Potions..." They flinched, then tried to ease the situation with a - rather nervous - laugh. That was apparently not a similarity between the two first-years. Sheesh. "What frightened you about it? Maybe we could have some sort of, uhm, study group for Potions? We could help each other with any upcoming questions, maybe that would help you to not be scared of the subject..." Quinn smiled at the Ravenclaw, doing their best not to seem patronizing. "A-and... Gryffindor is great. I've met a few other Gryffs, and they've all been really, really nice. I hoped I'd be Sorted into Gryffindor, but I didn't think I would be brave enough, so it was a huge surprise! What about you? How's Ravenclaw?", they asked, eyes full of curiosity.

It had only been Cai's second day here at Hogwarts for he had just recently enrolled into this prestigious school of the arts of witchcraft and wizardry. The previous afternoon and evening was quite eventful for Cairo for it was his first, exciting trip on the legendary Hogwarts Express. After reading loads and loads of books about this muggle locomotive, Cairo gazed and beamed with excitement as he compared the pictures of the book to the actual representation of the train. Feeling excited, but yet as nervous as ever to start his new life in an unfamiliar territory, Cairo kissed his mother Elizabeth, his father Seth, and his sister Alex goodbye before pushing his cart filled with supplies up to the train.OOC: I am not currently speaking with anyone, but I hope that someone will speak to him for Cairo is quite a shy, reserved character.
After Cairo placed his trunk and items way, He decided to enter a random compartment where there was only one lady present who looked to be around his own age. After speaking to the young lady, Cairo received the information that her name was Aydeen Murphy who was yet also a first year student at Hogwarts as well! It was quite an awkward experience for Cai for he was one that tended to be shy and reserved around new people which was something that he let go after he felt comfortable enough to open up to Deen. Feeling color brim his pale cheeks, Cairo smiled softly for he wasn't one to smile often. He began to feel more comfortable and relaxed for he was afraid to be alone, but thankfully this kind young lady was of assistance to accompany him for the rest of the train ride.
After arriving at the docks where magical boats were all anchored, ready to set sail, Cairo exited the train with his cart and took his luggage over to the drop off section available for the students. After doing so, Cairo made his way over to the boats and decided to carefully step into one. After deciding on finding a seat in the back of the magical vessel, Cairo clung to his robes for the late August winds had swooshed through the premises as the weather was preparing for the fall season. Trying to keep himself warm, Cairo observed every spectacle around him as his boat was nearing closer and closer to the magnificent fortress that was placed before him.
After exiting the boats safely on the other side of the moat, Cairo made sure that he was the last one to exit for he was one that tended to be respectful on all occasions. From opening doors for other people, to always receiving his share of anything last, Cairo was known to be a humble "Prince Charming" in his own little way. Walking through the front doors, Cairo's face lit up with awe and wonder as he glanced around at the halls of Hogwarts- the place that he would call his new home. Seeing that the history books were correct, Hogwarts was everything that Cairo imagined it to be, but yet so much more. From the architecture to the decor, Cairo truly felt like this academy could definitely be his new home for the next seven school years.
Walking in the back along with the other first year students, Cairo tried to pick up his short legs as he chased after them, having his dress cloak fly behind him. Cairo wasn't one to run, but he was determined to not fool himself as he would make his grand entrance into the legendary Great Hall where the other students were already seated at their proper House tables. Puffing his chest out a bit and standing straight with perfect posture like his dad taught him to do, Cairo took a deep breath before walking into the Great Hall with the other first years. Feeling the eyes of the other students fall on him and the other first years, Cairo gulped down a lump of nervousness down his throat as he slightly began to sweat for a little on his forehead and in his palms. "Oh no! This is it! The moment I have been dreading for ever since I read about it." Cairo said to himself as he tried to control his anxiousness, but couldn't for he had issues with anxiety.
After waiting for the other students to be sorted into their new Houses, Cairo clapped after each student's new House cheered for them loudly. Knowing that he wasn't one to smile much for he was such a serious character, Cairo decided to place a very well disguised small smile across his lips as he pretended that he cared about the ones who were getting placed. It was hard for Cairo to judge or compare others for he was always a prestigious young man who sought out the best for his life. Cairo just desired for others to do the same and always be challenged to strive for success. Cairo was a natural Slytherclaw through and through for he desired success and for wisdom that comes from knowledge. Cairo continued to ponder over these thoughts before he heard the Headmaster declare a name that he was all too familiar with.
"Hawthorne, Cairo Bridge! Mr. Hawthorne, please step forward and take your seat."
Gulping once again, Cairo struggled his way through the crowd as he blushed from embarrassment as he bumped into the other taller first years. "Oops! Pardon me Miss. Oh!- Excuse me Sir." Cairo would say to the other un-sorted students who surrounded him. Poor Cairo was way too petite and little to get through the crowd that he struggled greatly with the task. Thankfully, Cairo eventually made it to the front of the room and ascended the small steps, determined to not make a fool of himself while in the process of doing it. Blushing with embarrassment, Cairo pushed and jumped onto the high barstool that was available and turned his body to face the awaiting crowd of students below him who were all staring at him intently with their judging eyes. Being slightly frightened again, Cairo looked down and avoided the looks from the crowd as he fiddled with his thumbs before feeling a large, heavy, floppy hat be placed on top of his skull. Hearing a deep booming voice, Cairo gently looked up and around the room, admiring the architecture while listening to the Hat speak.
Cairo honestly did not know that he had a lineage of wizards and witches from all of the Houses so that was news to the little boy of eleven years. Cairo figured that he would have to owl his father later and speak with his about this matter. The awkward pause in the speech started to make Cairo even more nervous if that was even possible. Soon, the Hat continued.Well, well, well! What do we have here? A Hawthorne eh? Hmm... I haven't had one of you Hawthlings around for quite some time. Hmm... You have your family be spread across many Houses so you may be a hard one to select. Hmm...."
"Hmm... now for you Cairo, you are a tricky case for me. There is no doubt that you do not belong in Gryffindor for your strength and valor is quite small. You would be a wonderful member in the Houses of Hufflepuff, Slytherin, and Ravenclaw though for I sense that you are a loyal, kind, honest, seeker of ambition, seeker of wisdom, and a seeker of knowledge. Out of all of these Houses, I believe that you would belong the most to is......
RAVENCLAW!"
Taking a deep breath of relief, Cairo felt the Sorting Hat be removed from his little head as Cairo hopped off of the tall bar-stool, which made him stumble a bit. Hearing the loudest cheers and standing ovations from an area of students all dressed in blue robes, Cairo finally smiled a tad more genuinely as he blushed from the attention which he had never received in this abundance before. Cairo smiled and took his seat at the end of the table as everyone was welcoming and congratulating Cairo for being sorted into their House. This night would be the first of many for Cairo Hawthorne which would mark as the first official event of his next seven years at Hogwarts where anything could happen.... only if you believe that it can by believing in the magic within ourselves.
After the Sorting and the fabulous meal at the Great Hall had concluded for the evening, Cairo and the other Ravenclaws were lead by their Prefects to the Ravenclaw Tower which they soon learned that this place would be the hang out for all of the Claws there. After familiarizing himself with the rooms and occasionally speaking with some of the other Ravenclaws who spoke to him first, Cairo decided to retire to his Ravenclaw Boy's Dormitory for the evening which was on the opposite side of the Girl's dorms. After going into the room that was specialized for first year students, Cairo found his items already there along with his trunk and things. Wanting to completely organize himself with his luggage for the year, Cairo spent a good hour or two getting everything sorted so that he could pick up with his work again in the early morning. Wanting to receive a proper, good night sleep, Cairo went to bed early and awoke the next morning at dawn for he was an early riser. After getting ready for the morning, Cairo continued to organize his items for that is what relaxed him the most for he quite the perfectionist.
As the other students began to arise and get ready for the day, Cairo already made his way downstairs in his new blue colors which showed off his Ravenclaw Pride. Walking down to the Great Hall with some of the other early risers like himself, Cairo found his feet to be traveling to the same table that he had been seated at the night before. Seeing some students that he recognized from yesterday, Cairo decided to pick up his simple breakfast of Oatmeal with cinnamon and a goblet of orange juice as he made his way over to the table, being careful to not sit too close to the two students who seemed to be lost in a deep conversation with one another. Secretly listening to the conversation, Cairo began to eat his meal as he pondered and tried to decide if he should be rude and join the conversation or just remain silent like Cairo usually did. Deciding to remain quiet, Cairo made secret glances over at the two students as he continued to eat his meal, wondering if they would take any heed or notice to the shy boy of eleven.

Laughing a bit at Quinn saying they enjoyed Potions, Lark finished up her toast. "I def will go ta you for homework advice then!" She thought for a moment... "I mean another student helped me, Dale. He was giving me some of his old notes but it would be nice ta have someone my year to help though." Lark took a swig of her juice. "Honestly.. I guess I didn't anticipate how precise it all 'as ta be.. mostly like if somethin' is fine powder or too granulated.. I dunno." She grimaced a bit thinking back to her first potion melting part of the table and seemingly more of a sludge than liquid.
Listening to Quinn talk about Gryffindor put a smile on her face. She imagined Gryffindor to be a rather comfortable and friendly house to be in. Although, Ravenclaw had been pretty good to her so far. Given all her friends she had made already in house. "That's good! I've already 'eard good things about Gryffindor all 'round." Sitting a little more comfortably in her spot, legs stretched out under the table Lark answered Quinn's question about her own house.
"Oh! Ravenclaw has been great. I didn't think it would be so welcomin'.. I mean the whole smart thing seems rather intimidating at first y'know? Sorta nerve wracking like you said. Plus, my mum was in Ravenclaw so I felt pretty pressured ta get in if I'm bein' honest." She knew her mother never would admit to it but if Lark had been sorted to any other house there could have been a serious conversation in her future about disappointed feelings. Noticing what appeared to be another first year, a boy, sitting not too far off giving them glances, Lark continued her train of thought.
"I guess the hat knows best though. Supposedly." Shrugging her shoulders gently, Lark held a hand over her mouth as she yawned. "I was hoping the post would come soon. Haven't heard from my family in awhile, other than my Gran once. Seems like I've been here forever.. I came over summer.. did you?"
