“No, no, no— I’m just saying— he kind of looks like young Leo. That doesn’t mean I like him, just— back me up, Carson.” Maggie exaplained, flailing her hands around frantically as she tried to explain herself.

The six friends sat together at the end of the Gryffindor table, like they always did, and chatted about their days, like they always did. They were made up of two Gryffindors, two Hufflepuffs, and two Slytherins, so all they needed was a pair of Ravenclaws and they’d collected the set.

“Oh yeah— did you guys see the newest Headliner? Holy shit, you’ve got to have some balls to attach your name to that “Speculation Corner”. If I were Ms. B, I’d be giving Ami Trolls for days— or was that Koko Riddle who wrote the thing about Ms. B and Mr. Browne?” She spoke, shoveling her pancakes into her mouth as she did so.

The Headliner’s gossip column was good— but Maggie had a hard time believing it didn’t feature some of the other infamous couples around the castle. She wasn’t saying she could do better, but if Koko Riddle has sat at their table for a day or two, she’d definitely have a lot more information.

“Hmm?” Carson hummed, looking up from his plate, where he was currently in the process of shoveling pancakes into his mouth. He sat in between Maggie and Charlotte, with Millie, Dan, and Remy sitting across from them.

“Sure, yeah, whatever.” Carson mumbled, too preoccupied with his pancakes to be able to pay attention to his best friend. When he said it like that in his head, it sounded a lot worse than it actually was, okay?

He decided to tune into the conversation when Maggie started talking about the Headliner, which, and he felt like he could speak for the entirety of the student body when he said this, was an amazing newspaper. Sure, their Quidditch section was rubbish, but that was what The Bludger was for, right?

“I think it was Riddle— remember when you invited her to that costume party of yours, Mags?” Carson asked, rembering the costume party Maggie had thrown back in their first years. He remembered when she’d attacked another student— Dale Kurt, that’s who.

“If I’m bein’ honest, I don’t really like her. Remember when she set Dale Kurt’s costume on fire?” He remembered how she’d also left early— super early. Yeah, he wasn’t too fond of her, even if she hadn’t outright spit on him or anything. Still, he had to admire her gall for writing that article.

Ah, food time. The one time when Millie could blame her lack of socialization on something. Well, something other than herself falling into a terrible trance of thoughts.

Todays topic was the gossip column on Professor Bercegeay and Professor Browne. Of course, Millie had only skimmed through the headliner, as they were becoming more and more dramatic and boring. She dropped in a "mhm" every now and then to keep Maggie satisfied.

She was in the process of eating fruit when everyone started talking about Koko Riddle. At first, Millie thought about the really nice girl who bumped into her in the hallways during rush hour. She apologized and introduced herself. Maggie was there, too! And another first year who had gotten lost. She tried to think about what had exactly happened, but the only thing she could remember was her and her friends nearly getting detention.

"That snotty brat!" She declared suddenly, looking up at Maggie. "She tried to give you and me and another girl detention, remember?" She asked, looking over to her friend.

The three girls got away with Millie's good guilt-tripping abilities, but that did not stop the Gryffindor from being absolutely furious. And she was a Slytherin which made Millie's number of enemies from that house a surprising two. She was still processing her and Min-seo but as of right now, they were on good terms.

She looked down to her fruit, and sighed, the feeling of hunger going away.

Finally, food. Dan was quite occupied shoveling bacon, eggs over easy, and roasted potatoes in his mouth. He heard Maggie going on about the Headliner, but Dan had never been a fan of it. He'd been interviewed a few times, but upon reading the Quidditch section, and saw the writer going on about how 'twink' brooms were not for muggle borns or half bloods, and existed merely for pure bloods to show off their wealth, Dan had lit the thing up with a flick of his wand. He no longer cared for that newspaper. Not that he was that big a fan of it to begin with. Growing up in the Muggle world, he was a tech boy. Newspapers bored him, for the most part.

"The newspaper seemed like it was a steamin' bag 'a dog shite."
True enough, one could tell that students were writing the paper, because it was gossipy as hell, and one could practically hear the preppy cheerleader voice ringing off the pages.
Most of Dan's thoughts may have been spiteful from the Quidditch thing, but he maintained his opinion of it. But, Dan was loathe to talk about it unless he was directly addressed, as it took away from valuable food-shoveling time. So, he went back to it.

Charlotte picked up the last bit of pancake that was left on her plate with a swift movement of her fork, as she watched the quite animated conversation that was taking place around her. The last issue of the newspaper seemed to be rather controversial, it was the only thing students had been excitedly chattering about these last few days and, oddly enough, Charlotte had never read it. The school gossip wasn't truly her thing and a newspaper ran by students was bound to be nothing but scandalous babbles. For this simple reason, Charlotte never got around to read it. Perhaps she was missing out on something quite important, but the thought of entertaining the lies that were spread around wasn't exactly her cup of tea.

'Koko? Is it me or are there nothing but problems surrounding the girl? I personally haven't read the issue, partly because I heard nothing but bad rumours about it. How could they publish such a thing?'
she said calmly as she poured herself a glass of water.

Charlotte hadn't really talked to Koko in the past, but had only seen her casually cast a flame-conjuring spell to another young boy for no apparent reason. At the time, Charlotte had been very confused and the girl's first impression wasn't the best.

'I just think she's looking for attention. What better way than to spread such rumours onto a paper that passed through every student's hands?'

Charlotte scanned the table and realised the plate of pancakes was completely gone. Not one pancake in sight. What a shame, they were by far the best pancakes she had ever tasted and the mere thought of it made Charlotte's mouth water. Looking by her side, she realised the last ones were in Carson's plate. Discreetly, she approached her fork and tried to take the tiniest piece she could but the whole pancake was now sliding towards her... Maybe he wouldn't notice?

““I think it was Riddle— remember when you invited her to that costume party of yours, Mags?” Carson asked, causing Maggie to nod, a happy feeling bubbling up in her stomach at the mention of her party. “If I’m bein’ honest, I don’t really like her. Remember when she set Dale Kurt’s costume on fire?”

“Yeah, actually. She left early, too— I don’t really like her that much either.” Maggie nodded, taking another bite of pancakes.

"That snotty brat!" Millie declared, causing Maggie to snicker a little. "She tried to give you and me and another girl detention, remember?”

“Oh yeah, I remember.” Maggie confirmed, rolling her eyes a little at the memory. Luckily, the two had got out of it— but still.

"The newspaper seemed like it was a steamin' bag 'a dog shite." Dan declared, his thick Irish accent making it sound genuine. Maggie shrugged— it was kind of a guilty pleasure to read some of the articles, aka the speculation corner and such. What? Could you blame her?

Some of the theories were a bit far-fetched, but other than that, it was fun to read. It was one of the only parts she read, to be honest, as she usually skimmed over the rest, besides the Quidditch scores.

The conversation once again turned towards Koko Riddle when Charlotte spoke, her interest piqued after she’d finished her plate.

'Koko? Is it me or are there nothing but problems surrounding the girl? I personally haven't read the issue, partly because I heard nothing but bad rumours about it. How could they publish such a thing?' Her voice was calm, showing no signs of indignation or anger. Maggie shrugged once again— she didn’t have any strong opinions on it. The newspaper, that is. The whole Koko Riddle thing seemed pretty spot-on.

'I just think she's looking for attention. What better way than to spread such rumours onto a paper that passed through every student's hands?' Maggie nodded— if that was her plan, Koko was doing pretty well, at least among this table.

“Yeah, I guess she’s doing a pretty good job of it, huh?” Maggie asked, a small grin growing on her face as she watched Charlotte not-so-discreetly try to steal one of Carson’s pancakes.

“Oh yeah— forgot to ask,” Maggie began, looking towards Carson as a thought popped into her head. “Did you make your Quidditch team, Carson? I know Millie did, congrats, by the way.”

“I got waitlisted.” Maggie announced, a bit sadly, “And I didn’t make the Prefect position because I wasn’t familiar with the rules of the castle.” she put the last part in air-quotations, showing how bullocks she thought that was.

“It was a fancy way of them saying that I’d broken too many rules to be in the position, I guess.” Maggie shrugged, a tiny, proud, smirk growing on her face as she spoke. “I don’t think the posistion was very fitting for me anyways, though.”
