Finally A Friend
Kyden and Dmitri had made their way down to the Great Hall. Kyden found them a spot at the Slytherin Table that was pretty well empty. Nobody directly next to them on either sides. He sat down and started loading food onto his place. That was one major reason he loved Hogwarts. Unlike the Orphanage there was no chance he was going to go hungry. After taking a few bites he looked over at Dmitri.
"So you think you could tutor me in DADA and maybe potions. I got an A in potions and the one D in DADA but I also got a E in DADA. Other than that I have gotten E's and O's. I'd like to get all Os like you but I don't think that will happen I would be happy with Es and Os. Also I was thinking since we have the same schedule and you said we could stick together maybe we could walk to our classes together."
He didn't want to say exactly that he was slightly scared to walk alone. He looked around the Great Hall and saw some faces that he knew very well though he wished he didn't know them at all. He tensed up and looked down at his plate. Silently he picked at his food.

Finally A Friend
Dmitri followed his newfound friend, Kyden Goodlow, as they strode into the Great Hall looking forward to filling their empty stomachs. Almost like it was listening in, the raven-haired boy's stomach growled for the umpteenth time this day. He looked at Kyden and laughed, slightly embarrassed (but after almost a million times of his stomach rumbling on their way down here from the common room, his mortification wore off into just slight embarrassment). Dmitri shrugged at the smaller boy. "I'm sorry! I haven't had lunch. I was too engrossed into my homework I didn't know what time it was." He nudged Kyden with an elbow. "Besides, there was one person who distracted me for quite a while." He winked at the boy, indicating that he was to blame--albeit as a joke.
Kyden found them a good spot in the Slytherin table. It wasn't really that crowded in the Great Hall that night. It was early for most people to have supper and the tables were mostly half-empty. The better for them. After they sat down, they immediately went and helped themselves to the food, Dmitri more so--his plate was quite heaping.
Looking up at Kyden as he spoke, Dmitri stopped chewing for a moment, swallowed, then replied. "Yeah sure. I think I could use some company while I study at the library." He smiled, a little shy. "It does get a little lonely in there, especially because no one is allowed to talk too loud. And also, yeah, I could walk with you to class. I've seen you in class a few times, too! I think we have the exact same schedule! Nice." The raven-haired boy laughed and held out a palm for Kyden to high-five.
However, he did not miss the furtive glances the other boy darted around the Hall nor the tense set to his shoulders after he requested Dmitri to accompany him to class. Even though Dmitri was smiling, his jaw tensed as he cataloged the faces that Kyden glanced at, mentally taking note of whose asses he needed to kick when he had the time.
"Anyway, Kyden," He leaned down and whispered conspiratorially, "have you found someone you liked in our class yet." Dmitri winked, and waggled his eyebrows teasingly. "You could tell me, I won't spill your secret." He crossed his heart with a finger.
Besides, Kyden was his only friend and probably the only one aside from a few whom he had actually a decent conversation with. Dmitri doesn't have enough acquaintances he could spill a secret to so Kyden need not to worry.

Also, you can use the brackets "[" and "]" for the PV Dmitri Jones tag so it appears as a square in the thread list section of the Great Hall. Just a small tip

"Well truthfully there a has been a couple, Nobody that has stood out 100% yet but 2 are pretty close." He didn't really want to say names. He wasn't sure about why though. "What about you? Anybody in your classes?" He wiggled his eyebrows teasing Dmitri.
"When do you go to the library? I'd love to go with you. I could probably spend more time studying. I usually just pump out the homework assignments and call it a day. Studying would probably help me. I wish I could be more academic oriented like you are."
Kyden was pretty envious of Dmitri. Dmitri seemed confident and he was obviously very smart. Kyden used to be a confident kid at the orphanage but here at Hogwarts he wasn't sure who he was. So many things were changing and he was learning things about himself that shocked him. This was confusing time in his life. Just like it had to be for many other kids his age.
"So where you surprised to be sorted to Slytherin or was that what you expected. I was pretty shocked and at first I hated it but you know I am starting to come to terms with being in Slytherin its not so bad after all"

"Psshh..." Dmitri snorted indignantly as he shoved Kyden's shoulder. "No time for crushes. Study-maniac, remember?" He chuckled as he took another large bite of food from his quickly-diminishing plate. "And besides, if I ever find someone I'd like, I think it'd be someone as dedicated to their studies as me. So far, I haven't really seen anyone with the same drive, you know?" He coughed and muttered silently to himself, Someone male, that is.
In response to Kyden's question, Dmitri stated, "Oh. I usually go to the library right after lunch and then straight on 'til supper during Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. During Tuesdays and Thursdays when there's Potions and DADA on the afternoon, I usually just catch up after supper until the library closes." He smiled as the other boy explained how he wanted to study more. "Well, yeah. But, I mean, you just need to do what suits you, I guess. Do whatever makes you happy or comfortable, that's what I always say. I mean, I know that not all people do things the same way. Look at you, you have more time for making friends than I do. Sometimes, being 'academic-oriented' isn't really the bomb, you know?"
"To be honest, yes. But not because I was expecting to be sorted into another house. On the contrary, I wasn't trying to make myself expect anything from my first day of school here--I wanted to experience all the surprise and the excitement and the giddiness coming from taking one step into a milestone. So yeah, wherever I might have been sorted, I still would have been surprised." Dmitri grinned. "Besides, I think the Sorting Hat puts you in the house that could benefit you the most. So, instead of hating its decision, you should celebrate it." The raven-haired boy took his cup of Butterbeer and raised it towards Kyden's direction. "So, should we? Cheers to being Slytherins!" He would laugh jovially when their cups would clink together.

He clinked cups with his new friend. He sat silently for a few moments taking in everything that Dmitri had said. "You know your right. I should celebrate what the Sorting Hat chose for me. I think you and I could both learn something from each other. You could teach me how to be better at my studies and I could teach you how to be better and making friends." He gave a friendly elbow to the ribs and laughed.
Kyden felt something towards Dmitri but he didn't want to let on. He wasn't exactly one hundred percent sure if it was anything or if it was just relief of having a friend. He looked to Dmitri who was working on another plate that was piled high with food. "Man where do you put all that food. Do you have a hollow leg or something," He teased.
"So you heading to the library after this or are you done for the evening. If you are maybe I will tag along and try to get a head start on some studying you know." In all truthfulness Kyden didn't want to leave the company of Dmitri just yet. He really enjoyed being around him.

"Pfft. Yeah..." Dmitri shook his head and snorted. "It seems like I still have a lot to learn in the making-friends area of expertise. Most people think I'm cold and unapproachable sometimes." He shrugged and took another bite of his meal. "I mean, they're not wrong. I'm not usually a fan of either being interrupted or being annoyed. And I'm not one to beat around the bush, you know. I tell it how it is." The raven-haired boy sighed as he looked down at his plate. "I mean, if you really wanna get to me without me snapping at you, you really just need to know that sometimes, I just like my space, you know?" He speared a piece of meat with his fork and played lazily with it. "Not many people get that. Well..."He looked up at Kyden and smiled, "Not until you, that is." Dmitri laughed and bumped shoulders with the other boy.
The raven-haired boy laughed loudly at Kyden's comment on his eating. "Oy! Look at me! Look at yourself, too! We aren't exactly the biggest of our class." He patted his stomach. "We need this much food to catch up, didn't you know?" Dmitri chuckled. "You should start eating more, too. Here." He scooped a dollop of mashed potatoes and dumped it on Kyden's quickly-emptying plate. He raised his eyebrow. "Well... we won't get bigger if we won't eat, now will we?"
"Hmmm... I dunno. What do you wanna do? I mean, I didn't have anything planned for this evening. I'm all up for studying and catching up for lessons if you want to. If you want to hang out somewhere else, I'm fine with that too." Dmitri shrugged. He really didn't care what they do and where they do it. He just knows that he'll be fine as long as Kyden's there with him as well. He needed to spend time with his newfound friend, you know.
Around them, the noise of the Great Hall started to slowly rise as students who just finished their last periods of the day filtered into their dining tables, famished after a long day of studying.

Kyden winced as the noise in the Great Hall started to rise. He preferred to come to breakfast, lunch, and dinner early to avoid the crowds and lessen his chances of being teased. He picked at his plate quietly for a minute.
"Well whenever your ready to go I am just about done. I prefer to avoid crowds." It was bad enough his classes where so full. He often arrived early to be sure to get a seat up front. He found many of the kids didn't want to be right up front. He looked over at Dmitri. He didn't know how the boy could be so confident but he wished he could learn.
"So are you excited for the imp catching? I think I am pretty excited and confident about my team. I know my teammate Quinn has what it takes. My other teammate Dakota. I don't know him super well so I can't really say but I am hopefully. However I am positive we will smother your team though." He poked at his friends ribs teasing him. He really liked having a friend. He could see them doing great things this year. Dmitri was the brains and the brawn and well Kyden had brains but not so much brawn.

Dmitri noticed the way Kyden became silent as the Great Hall started to slowly fill up. The raven-haired boy scowled as a particularly loud and rowdy group of first years arrived and sat themselves close to the two. He nodded enthusiastically as the smaller boy suggested they bail. "Thank goodness. I feel the same way. I don't really know a lot of who these people are and the few I know, I dislike one way or another." Dmitri smiled ruefully. "Says a lot about my socializing skills." He chuckled. "You've got your work cut out for you when you said you were gonna help me make friends."
He tapped Kyden on the shoulder, standing up and gesturing towards the exit. Dmitri laughed at Kyden's quip about the Imp Catching event. "Good luck with that, buddy. I've got two Ravenclaws in my team; Mine and their brains together? Winner." He smirked and winked at the smaller boy. "We'll surely be putting up a fight." The Slytherin boy didn't mention that the two Ravenclaws on his team were serlf-proclaimed rivals--probably because a healthy dose of internal competition in the team could prove to be more advantageous than it lets on.
As they walked out of the Hall together, Dmitri pouted at Kyden. "I still can't get over the fact that you didn't wait to team up with me, though. I thought we were friends!" He feigned heartbreak with a dramatic hand to his chest.

"I wish I would have waited to team up with you because honestly. My team isn't doing much and honestly I am kinda lost on how this whole event works. I kinda just bowed out really. I just left it alone."
He sighed. He had start making friends slowly but now most of them stopped talking to him. "Well I don't think I am as great at making friends as I thought. However I am trying out for the Quidditch Team so I have my hopes up that I make it and will make friends. Though I really shouldn't because a lot of people want to be Seeker. Who knows hopefully I will get it."
He looked up at his friend and smiled. He was glad he at least had Dmitri. Without 1 friend he wasn't sure he could make it at Hogwarts. "So where to Mr. Straight O's." He nudged his friend teasingly and laughed. Secretly he wished he could have been a straight O student. He was close to a E and O student except for that one D and he was pretty sure he didn't do that great on his last Charms assignment. "You really do need to tutor me or something especially if I am going to help you make friends."

Dmitri shook his head and laughed. "See? Regret always comes last, my friend. It's always going to bite you in the tush when you least expect it." He threw an arm around the other boy's shoulder. Still think you're going to kick our asses? You should have waited for me, Kyden. I really don't know if I should be offended." He pouted jokingly once more.
"Anyway," Dmitri started as they passed through the threshold of the Great Hall. Ahead of them, a particularly large group of first years were huddled together, heading presumably towards the Great Hall. The raven-haired boy raised an eyebrow and gave a noticeably mean look at the group when their voices rose quite a bit higher than what he was comfortable with. The icy look worked--if the sudden hush and bowed heads were any indication. I should be a prefect or a House Boy. I have the disciplinary attitude down pat! He though smugly to himself. Dmitri then steered Kyden to the side to provide space for the group to proceed inside the Hall.
"Are students always this mouthy? I figure, after a day's worth of classes, most of them would be drained and low-energy, enough for them to shut their traps." He tsked and shook his head. "Anyway, I think I'd like to go to the library, get some studying done. You can come with me if you like."
The two Slytherins left the Hall behind, their friendship growing with every step.
