Breakfast in the Hall of Fame PV Adeline Closed

Margo looked down at her bowl of cereal, not seeing the jam infused milk, but instead the cloudy world of her own imagination. She was more of a night owl than an early bird, and considered it a horrible torture to work one’s brain if they hadn’t been awake for 2 hours.

Luckily, her favourite taste in the world- blackberries- was reviving her a little, though not enough to focus on the open book beside her. She loved books, always and forever, but there were just some instances where the words couldn’t make an impact on the fuzzy walls of her mind. Spooning a mouthful of blackberry infused granola into her mouth, Margo looked up at the enchanted ceiling. It was a grey day, not particularly interesting, but to be expected in the depths of dreary Scotland. Margo, however, didn’t mind the dull weather, having bared regular snowstorms during the winter in her home town, Aviemore. It was a famous town- the only skiing village in Britain, causing tourists to flood in during the summers and winters.

Perhaps, Margo thought, turning to review her notes in the book beside her, That’s why I kept a neutral face when arriving here, fame is overrated. Though, even she couldn’t deny the history of the hall she sat in. Harry Potter and all his companions (enemies included) had walked the halls of Hogwarts, and famous Slytherins had sat on the very bench that she was planted on.

xxxAdeline had already been up for about an hour but had only decided she was hungry enough for breakfast now. She headed down the aisles of tables, searching for a place to sit. As she paced down the long row of tired and groggy Slytherin students, Adeline realized that she had made a mistake coming to breakfast this late; almost all of the seats at the long table had been taken.

xxxShe walked up one side of the table, unsuccessfully searching for an empty place to sit, and began down the other side. About halfway down the table, Adeline found an empty space on the bench, large enough for herself and her plate to squeeze in. Across from that empty seat, sat a taller girl, with dark short and wavy hair. Adeline couldn't see much of her face, for it was buried deep in a book. Adeline had never been much of a reader, she much enjoyed creating her own stories.

xxx"Do you mind if I, sit here?" Adeline said quietly, looking over at the girl shyly. Adeline was a very outgoing person once she got to know someone, but for now she sounded timid and small. Adeline paused for a moment, unsure if the girl had heard her. "May I sit here?" She asked again with a slightly louder tone.

Margo was yanked out of her sleepy, book induced daze to see a girl in her year standing behind her. She had completely missed what the girl had said, partly because of her stupor, but also because she’d said it so quietly. Margo vaguely tried to recall the girl’s name. She’d made it her mission to know every Slytherin in her year in her first few months of arrival and now it was her second year. The morning had well and truly killed her.

“May I sit here.” The girl repeated and Margo nodded hurriedly. She hadn’t actually gotten to know many of her fellow classmates, and now was a welcome opportunity... no matter the extent her grogginess.

“I’m Margo.”
She said with a small smile, putting her pen in her textbook to mark the page she’d been reading. Slamming it with a satisfying thump she spotted a jar of jam just past the girl’s arm.

“Hey, would you mind passing the blackberry jam, it’s my version of caffeine.” She said with a small smile. Usually, Margo would never tell a near stranger something so personal, but her mental filter wasn’t functioning so well in her currant state. The girl looked much more alert than she did... at least until Margo jumped suddenly, almost knocking her bowl flying. The girl’s name was Adeline, she remembered suddenly. Her brain wasn’t fast asleep after all! She could only hope that the girl didn’t think her strange with her seemingly random movements.
