The 2nd of September, 2018
Morning
"Down the stairs from the Dorms, through the Common Room, through the Portrait," Meenauh was now recalling her way to the breakfast, which wasn't as simple as she had thought it could be, "down The Staircase..."

She had already managed to read about The Staircase even before arriving at Hogwarts, but everything she read about it couldn't help her to solve the puzzle. The puzzle, which supposedly Rowena Ravenclaw herself came up with. And she was witty. And Meenauh thought she was witty. But the old Hat apparently thought she was brave, whatever that meant.

So after several clearly failed attempts to get down from the fifth floor to the ground floor, she froze in place with her mind trying out different hypotheses of what was happening. But the movement of the stairs didn't help to concentrate, so she pulled out the most obvious and dumb test — just always turning the same direction. And in just 4 minutes she was standing in front of the Great Hall entrance.

"I refuse to believe that was what Rowena Ravenclaw came up with. That had to be a coincidence and I'm going to test it later," she concluded to herself while entering the Great Hall and sat on an empty and seemingly unreachable bench of the Gryffindor table to recall her short journey and, what was much more important, to have a proper breakfast.

The food was appearing in front of her again, very delicious food, and she wondered whether there was any magic involved that could guess her favourite food or least current true wishes, and then almost instantly cook whatever that was. She didn't think of or actually ever tasted rice pudding, which was accompanied by a fresh mango, apples and chia seeds. Once she tasted it, she became very happy that her brain decided to finally halt and enjoy the food without all the fuss.

And then she saw a few Gryffindor girls entering the Great Hall and remembered she literally invited them to join her at breakfast.

Millie was more than ready for breakfast at Hogwarts. Free and delicious food right before a hard day of classes? Who wouldn't be excited for that! Well maybe people who weren't morning people, or someone who didn't eat in the morning. Or perhaps someone who was just like Millie.

Getting up in the morning was very easy- said no one ever. Especially not when you spent the previous night talking to friends, and reading and writing. Falling asleep at midnight, and then waking up at seven in the morning, was something Millie did not want to do. Not when she had really important classes she needed to attend.

After washing her face, and changing into her school robes, Millie ran outside the girls dormitory. Only to run back inside to realize she needed her school supplies. And by the time she was out of the Gryffindor common room, it was half past seven. Yet being weighed down by the millions of pounds from her plenty of books in the bag. Millie had basically memorized the way to the Great Hall, seeing she had made her way there everyday by herself.

The smell of sweet breakfast entered Millie's nose as she walked down the Gryffindor table. She had spotted a girl she had once seen in the Gryffindor common room, sitting by herself. 'That's not a way to spend breakfast, all alone,' Millie thought. And being the happy, cheerful girl she was, sat right across of the girl.

"Hey there, I've seen you in the common room. I'm Euphrasia, but call me Millie," She proceeded to help herself to a bowl of fruits. "It's super nice in quiet in the morning, but its still ever so hectic."

The procession of girls sat down at the other side of the table, so Meenauh sighed out in pleasant mental relaxation, but then:

"Hey there!" came from the other side of the table so unexpectedly because just a moment ago the seat was empty with no one around.

The owner of the cheerful voice was similarly the same age girl like herself, overly cute and smiling at her. Despite her joyful attitude, the girl's eyes seemed bleary, as if because of some distant sorrow, or just sleepy. The girl noted something about the Common Room ("So she must have seen me whirling off.") and introduced herself as Euphrasia, but suggested calling her Millie.

"Good Morning, Euphrasia. I always wondered how people manage to transform something beautiful and iridescent like Euphrasia into something common like Millie. If you're not completely against it, I would prefer calling you Euphrasia, because at some point in future someone may create a spell with such an incantation and I'll master it fully by the time it's created," she didn't quite have the time to think about the first interaction, but that was it, "I am Meenauh. Like 'me' and 'now'."

She lowered her eyes back into her food, took a bite, and tried to think very fast of some ice-breaker in case Euphrasia wouldn't come up with one earlier.

Lucian woke up to her stomach churning and cramping, immediately recalling her focused essay writing session she had conducted all throughout dinner last night, meaning she hadn't eaten anything since her light lunch. Her brother Oberron had always told her that when he started at Hogwarts, his waistline had grown quite quickly, but Lucian believed that there were far more important things to be doing in Hogwarts rather than eating.
However, this was not one of those times. Throwing her feathery black hair up in a messy bun atop her head, Lucian wrapped her black robe around her and made a point to make her bed up quick. A neat space proved for an efficient mind, and Lucian was entirely about efficiency. If she wanted to win her families soon to be lacking affections back once she told them of her house outcome, she'd need to prove that she was still just as capable of incredible things as before. More than anything in the world, she wanted to do her family and the Grey family name proud, even if it took a few missed meals on occasion.
Making her way out of the Common Room, Lucian did her best to recall how to arrive back at the Great Hall. The rapidly shifting staircases and winding, identical hallways proved for quite the adventure, but luckily Lucian had done her homework. As she'd walked up to the Common Room for the first time, she remembered unique landmarks as a sort of map. Certain odd paintings, a statue here or there, an especially pretty glass window, all leading her to where she needed to go.
As she entered, Lucian was hit with multitudes of voices telling stories, far too many for this early in the morning. She strolled over to the Gryffindor table, her typical air of snooty confidence surrounding her, and sat in an empty part of the table, beginning to people-watch.

The doors opened once more and quite unwillingly Meenauh was forced to look away from her plate and the girl, who kept smiling at her. To look away at almost everyone, who was entering the hall. In the corner of her eye, she saw a girl, walking graciously between the tables, like a queen. Her robes, although seemed no different from others, were almost glittering with noble confidence. Meenauh even tried to glance quickly behind the girl, expecting the retinue, but she was alone. As she was coming closer, Meenauh managed to distinguish some red and gold on the robes, but all her appearance, her face, her dark-as-the-night hair, her way of walking screamed for silver. Probably green and silver. That's the second time for the last couple of days she saw something completely out of place, just like... just like herself.

She stopped eating and couldn't stop watching the noble girl, who sat down at the empty part of the table and started to calmly look around without focusing her sight on anything particular. The same exact moment the two girls' eyes should have crossed, Meenauh looked away, but something inside her was growing and couldn't be stopped by merely not doing anything.

That was curiosity. The engrossing curiosity that had driven Meenauh through her entire life. And she didn't even try to fight it because why would she do it to herself? She grabbed her bag and the plate, raised from her seat, still shooting quick glances at the noble girl, and had to say a very rushed goodbye to Euphrasia, promising to catch up with her later. And then she stood up and walked over to the place the brunette was sitting at. As she was approaching, her heart started to pound harder and harder, as if she got closer and closer to unravelling one of the greatest mysteries of this place.

"Why do I have a very strong feeling that something is out of place here? I see you, sitting at the Gryffindor table, but you look like you don't belong here. So, if you don't mind, please, tell me how come you're here because I'd want to have that answer for myself," she said that with outstanding confidence, which was definitely not the way she used to talk to people.

Lucian watched as the girl approached, chuckling to herself. From her lifetime of observing people, she'd grown to understand subtle changes in behavior, starting with the brunette approaching her. They way her eyes had followed Lucian all throughout the Great Hall, the way she quickly looked away as Lucian had sat down; she was proud of herself for projecting her confident heir so well, after all, she did need it to pull in new allies. However, she hadn't been planning on it being a Gryffindor; she didn't need Gryffindor's, she didn't belong with them. She needed to build a team of people like her.
Finally, she convinced herself that everyone can be of some use to her, no matter what house they belong to, and greeted the girl with a smirk as she approached, asking her about her place.

"And what do I owe you that answer for?" She opened her hand across from her, motioning for the girl to sit. She needed to know more, without revealing anything of her own; a talent she had artfully mastered due to help from her brother Salem, a helpful trick in his "business" endeavors with those lurking in Knockturn Alley. "I'm sitting her, now aren't I? I was sorted Gryffindor, I am wearing the Gryffindor colors, I am sitting at the Gryffindor table. What do you presume could possibly be out of place here?" She challenged, placing her pointed chin in the palm of her hand, raising an eyebrow and the left corner of her full pink lips.

Meenauh listened to everything the girl said in what seemed to be surprise, smiled and made a few notes in her mental notebook:

Observation #1. She is clever.
Observation #2. She was tutored well.
Observation #3. She's definitely a quest.

Meenauh remembered a book she read a couple of years ago — something about the science and practice of influence. About actions, tricks and manipulations best masterminds pulled out in order to project their influence over people. But that was in a book, and now this was the reality, and she was sitting right next to a supposedly very good master of influence.

"Well, sitting in Wizengamot and wearing plum-coloured robes doesn't make you a judge, right? As for the sorting: I figured out throughout the course of the night, that the Houses are just mere labels and the hat probably doesn't actually deal with our true nature. These three could, in theory, turn out to be decent points for you to lower your tutored defences and answer my question, but I expect you'd still want to know more of me in order to be able to respond in a way you're used to respond. And as I'm not going to be foolish enough to become your enemy one day, and also I'm not sure you're looking for friendships, I still wish to try. So here's a piece of personal information for you to process before we proceed: my name is Meenauh, like 'me' and 'now', I am, most probably, what wizarding people call pure-blood, though I don't see any sense in the connection of blood heritage to magic powers. Despite my own bloodline, I was born and raised among muggles but kept as close to magic as possible. My favourite colour is turquoise and I love eating date fruits, and what's the most important is that my whole conscious magic life I was 100% sure I was going to sit at that table next to us with other students of blue and bronze, but as you see, I don't!" she stopped to breathe in order to not collapse from suffocation. She saw the girl didn't give it away even slightly, not a single muscle on her face faltering, not even an eyebrow raising by a millimetre.  If the girl wasn't a quest, then... she didn't have time to think that part of the plan through, so she really hoped she was right about the noble girl.

Lucian listened to the girl speak, quite intrigued by her use of dialect and rushed form of speech, wondering why in fact, she wasn't placed in Ravenclaw, as it was very obviously her rightful place, as Slytherin was Lucian's. She was impressed with the girl's accurate conception of her, knowing that it was misplaced to want to be enemies, but also know that making friends was not a key part of Lucian's agenda here. She hated to admit her feeling impressed, but she was also quite pleased she'd found someone with such intellectual aptitude. Perhaps she could use this to her advantage in order to speak to the hat; obviously the girl relished the idea of being in Ravenclaw with those most like her, and this could be quite used to Lucian's aide if needed.
"Ah, I see you are quite well versed- something I can greatly appreciate. The color turquoise is a beautiful selection; I am more a dark midnight blue girl myself, but find blues to be quite captivating." I swirled a piece of hair around a slender, neatly manicured finger. "As for your bloodline, I must admit that I am incredibly pleased you are pure. I find purebloods to be so much more educated, don't you understand? Although I'm quite sure I could find a Muggle with the same intellectual prowess, there's something about bloodlines that are just ever so important. I myself have always been brought up thinking of Mudbloods as scum, but I try to be ever so much more open minded." She winked subtley.

"Well, there are a few muggles, which own so much intellectual power to be sorted into Ravenclaw and some are very cunning to get into Slytherin. If they had power, you know," she didn't want to get deep into all the blood heritage stuff just yet, because she had to conduct a lot of research and tests first.

"I honestly didn't expect you to share pieces of personal information about yourself just yet, but I feel like we have much to talk about, don't you think? But first, can you answer my question? Do you feel like you should have been sitting at the other table in this hall? You can take as much time as you need to think about it," she smiled, turned away from the girl, and continued eating her breakfast.

She felt like somewhere in her head there was a newborn Slytherin, who spoke all the words she had spoken. But the hat didn't offer her Slytherin. Does the hat really understand human beings at all or is it ourselves and our own minds involved? She remembered the first phrase the hat said to her and how it then reflected her own way of talking. As if the hat could maybe borrow some sort of thinking power from the person wearing it. Some subconsciousness, which went up to the surface and represented the true nature of a person. But the hat offered her Hufflepuff, what nonsense! She needed some way to find it all out.

Lucian chuckled, listening to the girl speak about blood and housing of sorts. She thought Lucian's opinions on blood were personal information? Nonsense. Having grown up in a family far too noble and powerful to allow non-magic folk into it, Lucian had grown to adopt her families prejudices, quite willingly as well. She had also been quite open about this, making a point not to befriend those with muggle parents, to avoid speaking with them in general, believing that they were a waste of her time and energy, lacking the natural power that came with being pure-blood to be useful. However, she didn't share this with the girl; she was sure she would find out soon enough on her own terms.
She looked over at the Slytherin table across the hall with indifference, making a point to show the girl how truely little she cared where she was sat. "It quite doesn't matter where I believe I belong; the Sorting Hat has done that for me, and if I didn't believe it was correct, that would mean doubting the entire magical capability of Godric Gryffindor himself, a man not only extremely powerful, but our very own house founder."
She took a small soup of her pumpkin juice, brushing some feathery hair out of a stormy eye and looking back over at Meenauh. "Why do you find such intrigue in where I belong, anyhow? What concern is it of yours?" Her words seemed accusatory, but her tone displayed a fresh, clear brightness that could only be associated with curiosity.
