Great Hall Meets
Walking the Hufflepuff to his class, Bloom made her way down to the Great Hall, her arms filled with binders and papers that spilled out on the corridor earlier in the day. She decided that after a minor incident in the corridor that she was not going to class. The time was fifteen minutes after the class started and she would rather just be thought of as sick than getting a markdown or detention for not being punctual.
Her mess in her hands, she walked into the Great Hall. It was empty. There were no students or teachers in sight. Everyone was either in class learning or teaching, and in a way, Bloom was excited. She was hungry and she enjoyed having some time to herself. At least time that was relaxing and not overly concerned with the drama in her life such as Ben Eckenrode. Rolling her eyes at his name, Bloom made her way to the Ravenclaw table where there was a blue runner that fit what she believed to be one of the longest tables in the world.
Plates were spread out for person to person. It seemed as though the house elves were getting things ready for lunch that was to occur in the next hour or so. The food in the middle was scarce, but it was good enough for Bloom. She saw more fruit in the middle than anything and Bloom made her way for the apple and grapes that looked more like decoration than for eating. Sitting down on the bench, she placed her papers and binders next to her on the right and began to sift through them, finally organizing her academic life that fell before her eyes.
Bloom popped one grape in her mouth and continued to sift again. During this process, she hummed a tune her parents used to sing to her and her sisters when she was a baby. She remembered it recently only because her parents were now singing it to her newly adopted brother, another sore subject in her world. Feeling comfortable, Bloom hummed louder and began to melt into her own world.

Great Hall Meets
Classwork - and class itself - often kept him from taking the time out of his day he needed to rest and recharge. Lunches and dinners were filled with the distinctive scritch of turning parchment and the scratch of a quill. Lunch? He often found himself missing it. It was never a purposeful thing. Accidental oversights were still oversights, regardless of intention.
Passing into the Hall, a bit early for lunch, he carried with him his supplies, his academic life - so far - messaged in annotated margins and essays on parchment. His short legs carried him in a measured, methodical gait, his height only enhancing the awkward, uncoordinated way he seemed to move. It wasn't intentional, of course, but he was still getting accustomed to being so tall.
He was fairly certain - though he hadn't checked - that his head was still red from smacking it against a door frame. Passing a humming girl, he grit his teeth, the sound irritating in ways he couldn't imagine. Perhaps it was her happiness that bothered him, or the fact there wasn't any music to go with it. It wasn't a feeling he could articulate; much like the air he breathed, it simply was.
Dropping his things on the bench with an audible thud he rubbed at his forehead, then leaned forward momentarily onto the runner, elbows propping his arms up so that he could dig the heels of his palms into the corners of his eyes.
Tired. He felt... tired. Drawing a deep breath, he opened his bag and pulled out Magical Drafts and Potions, turning to a dog-eared page he'd been intending to study. After a moment, he paused, reaching behind him to undo the binding on his long hair, shaking it out and then scratching at his temple.
Then, satisfied, he finally settled into work, his broad shoulders hunched over the book, an apple in hand into which he would periodically crunch.

History of Magic, Potions, Charms..., Bloom was categorizing her papers in the order of her classes, ensuring that they were ready for later today during early evening classes as well as for the days to follow. The humming had made her nose itch and she reached for the tip of her nose and scratched it gently with her index finger. With her other hand, she grabbed another grape and popped it into her mouth. She wondered if it were the season for grapes as they were exceptionally big and had quite a bit of juice in them.
Scarfing down the grape, she had another and afterwards a bite of an apple. She felt at ease having some peace and quiet from others. She had enough of the rumors that went around about her and Ben. Yes, he was -- or is -- the masked student, but that doesn't mean she has anything to do with it. She was just a girl who fell head over heals for her co-Prefect last year. And now, people assume that he attacks who she chooses. Well, that started thanks to Bloom herself during the Oktoberfest sleepover when she unwittingly told Aurelia Bezuidenhout that she should be careful or she will tell Ben that she's next.
Rolling her eyes, she tried to hum the thoughts away. Fortunately, Bloom's thoughts were cut off, but not in the nicest of ways. There was a loud thud that came from one table over. Her back at the Slytherin table, she turned around to see a Slytherin sitting down, minding his own business.
When did he come in? she thought. Perhaps she was too distracted by her thoughts that she did not even hear him. Her heart was, however, still racing from the surprise sound that he had made. Didn't he have any manners? Then again, it is a Slytherin.
"Is it me, or do all Slytherin's enjoy a big entrance?" she asked, starting a conversation with a hint of instigation. Bloom turned back around, her back to the Slytherin, and took another bite of her apple.

He had been rather content to study a revision of the Cure for Boils potion, but a slightly raised voice had grabbed his attention. It actually took him a moment to process that she had been talking into his general vicinity, and immediately he felt his mind cloud and his eyes narrow.
Without thinking, he retorted, his typically quiet voice sharpened by a sudden anger. “Just like a Ravenclaw to play wise while spouting banalities.” He regretted it almost the moment he said it, but he didn’t exactly have a good deal of control over himself in that moment. It was a disconcerting feeling, but the rushing heat of anger beneath his cheeks made him flush and dampened his thoughts to little more than heat and rage.
“Can’t even read a book in peace around here.” He mutters to himself, voice now low, though there was no missing the crack that came from his changing vocal chords. Another easy target she would no doubt needle him about. He was stressed as it was without some high and mighty Ravenclaw sneering down from a proverbial high horse.
Clenching and unclenching a fist, he did his best to steady his breathing and resist the urge to march out, giving her the victory. So he crunched into his apple, making sure he constrained his muttering to his own internal monologue.

Hearing the tone in his voice, one would confirm that a nerve was definitely hit. Bloom wondered if this was who she was now: someone who gets on other people's nerves? Last year, she was always the most communicative and adventurous person. Now, she just picks fights with other people. Was it the gossip or hormones? Bloom couldn't tell-- it was all too foreign to her.
It seemed that this Slytherin, however, can hold his own. She gave a small giggle to herself. She was actually quite impressed that a Slytherin knew a word longer than six letters. "Last time I checked, that's what a library is for," she retorted, turning her entire body around on the bench to face him.
She could either retort back and forth with the Slytherin or try to get back to her old self. If she wanted to be the uplifting and carefree person that she was, then she needed to change her attitude somehow. Perhaps the best route was to introduce herself.
Bloom stood up from and walked over to sit at the Slytherin table, leaving her food on the Ravenclaw table and her organized binders on the bench near it. She reached her hand out, introducing herself. "I'm Bloom Silverton, Second Year," she said, wondering if he would return the introduction. Her hair up, the bangs were uncontrollable. Using her other hand, she quickly brushed away her brown side-bangs.

The giggle made it worse, somehow. Balling a fist, he smacked it off the table, drawing attention from a nearby pair of housemates who decided it was better to stick to their own meal and conversation that get into whatever was going on there. Taking a deep breath, he went to rub his forehead before the girl came over to sit alongside him.
Now he really wasn't sure what it was she was after. Who did that? Who decided to lead in with the insult, then follow up with a handshake? It was the most backwards way of doing things, so far as he could tell. And yet, as he narrowed his eyes to glare at her, there was no mistaking the fact she was genuinely here to introduce herself.
There was no obvious ploy, no impending sleight of hand. Was that the trap? Lure him in, bash him again? His hand came up a moment later, and he gripped hers firmly - too firmly, actually. While he wasn't aware of it, he didn't know his own strength.
He merely shook twice, then released. "Corvus. First Year." He didn't find his last name to be overly important, but after a moment he sighed with a shake of his head. "Corvus Dravere." He'd heard the name floated around once or twice already, so it was better to make sure she'd be able to identify which Corvus she was referring to, should the need to mention him arise.
"Is there something I can do for you?" He was still angry, so it was a bit sharp, but there was no missing the exhaustion in his eyes.

It seemed as though the Slytherin was unable to hide any emotions whatsoever. Perhaps it was because he was a year younger and the stressful "Year One" hasn't taken a toll on him as of yet. Bloom was unsure, but she could definitely tell in the tone of his voice that he was not at all pleased with her presence. In addition, when she held his hand for a handshake, he did not hold back any of his strength. It almost felt like he was crushing her delicate fingers in the process. When they let go, she shook her hand up and down thinking that the motion would take away the pain.
There was something about this first year. Typically, the old Bloom would have just walked away, but there was something about her now that just wanted to egg on the situation. What was it? Was this "maturity"? Being able to be a little more confrontational? Probably not.
"Does someone need something from you to have a conversation?" she asked, dishing it back to him. Bloom paused and gave the Slytherin a small smile. "So, what do you like to do for fun, Dravere?" she asked, starting a simple conversation and seeing where it takes them. If she guessed right, he wouldn't even be answering the question, but it was worth a shot. And in turn, it got her mind off of Ben instantaneously.

He watched her shake out her hand, and even if she hadn’t been so disarmingly cordial - seemingly at a whim - he would still be apologizing. “I’m sorry.” He concedes after a moment. “I didn’t meant to hurt you.” In truth, incidental damage from his strength was becoming more common - he imagined it was just part of growing up. But that didn’t make it easier. Arguably, it made it worse, because he knew there would be more to come.
Remembering her clearing some bangs from her vision, he reached up, pulling his hair back tight to his scalp like his father showed him. The richly hued brown of his hair was pulled back into the familiar low ponytail he often associated with his father, and he took a moment to ponder her question.
It didn’t take long, of course, but that nearly musical Dublin accent inflected his words with a bit more cheer than he felt.
“I don’t suppose they do.” He admits, though still wary of that line of conversation. The more it came up the more it felt like she did want something, whether she realized it or not.
“What do I like to do?” He asks, a frown creasing his face. It was a pensive gesture, rather than one of displeasure. “Mix potions. Read. Look out into the lake from the common room.” A moment later, he smiled, though it was a fleeting thing, like the moon glimpses through clouds.
His demeanor had softened, his tone slightly warmed. It worked in her favor that she was so calm - it kept him on an even keel. “You?”

Her hand, slightly throbbing from the handshake had felt a bit better moments later. Bloom heard his apology and let it slide. Perhaps he did not even understand his own strength or there was too much emotion behind the handshake to begin with; emotion that she pushed nonetheless.
She seemed intrigued with what he enjoyed doing at Hogwarts. Typical that a Slytherin would enjoy potions though. Most of their time is spent in the dungeons and first floor of Hogwarts where their common room and corridor lay about. It was where they spoke most of their gossip about others that were located in the Hogwarts towers and kitchen.
"I don't know what I would do if there wasn't a lake," she said, thinking about all the times that she was in that lake swimming late at night. There was only one time she had been caught, and luckily, it was by fellow Ravenclaw Prefects which made for a decent warning and nothing more. No Prefect wants to take away points from their house. They would rather just give out warnings and pretend that it never happened. Bloom, who was once a Prefect, went through the same scenarios.
"I love adventure. Even though this is my second year, I love roaming around the castle and the grounds. There's a lot of history here," she said, her eyes looking at the Slytherin and then around the room. She could be certain that there would most likely be hidden doors and hallways in this room alone. "Have you ever had the chance to explore the castle before?"

He still wasn’t sure what it was she was after. But the anxiety of conversation with a stranger was lessening the more she spoke. She seemed used to this - she made conversation look effortless in comparison to his own, stilted fumblings. What did he say? “No, I haven’t.” He admits, though he’d never been so inclined.
His upbringing had been in the home, rather than out in a school, or among a community. He was a home body, rather than a wanderer. Wandering was the best way to find a new home, but he preferred familiar comforts to undiscovered beauty. Chewing at his lower lip for a heartbeat, he watched her eyes roam the Hall.
She was looking for something, though he didn’t know what, but he found her somehow endearing. Perhaps it was the inquisitive spark, or the comparatively effortless way she spoke that made his eyes linger.
But he knew the answer - for the moment, she was a puzzle. Every interaction was an exchange, whether you admitted to it or not. If she was alone, she got companionship from talking to him. If she wanted to explore, she got someone to lend a hand. It wasn’t to say he got nothing out of it, but he found himself unable to get away from the thoughts that so plagued his mind.
“Did you want to go exploring later... after class?” Logic lead him here. He felt awkward asking it. He worried it would sound like a date... and he worried more that she would say no, and worse, think him awkward and weird.
And yet, it was the only thing that came to mind. He was disastrously out of his depth and they’d only exchanged a few words. Why was talking so hard?
