Gratitude and Apathy

Christmas spirits were starting to show in this past week at Hogwarts, especially in the Great Hall itself. Dozens, if not millions of little candles lit the mesmerizing dark sky above, swaying peacefully to a rhythm and twinkling like a swarm of fireflies. The only difference now was that the candles were accompanied by soft droplets of snow trickling down midway throughout the air, something that was quite beautiful to look at. It was sure to give you that warm cosy feeling, even if you weren't fond of the season, like Falentra. Though she wouldn't admit it herself.
The scent of candles burning was invaded by the sweet aroma of the heavenly feast before Falentra, greeting her senses with a warm welcome. Trees were nowhere to be seen yet, but give it another week or so, and all twelve would fill the room. Not that it needed any more decorations adding to it. But that was just Falentras point of view. She just didn't get that whole 'Christmasy feeling'. It was a month that most celebrated together. Feelings of love and happiness were shared, but once that month passed, everyone parts ways once more, like nothing ever happened. Like it was all an act. All for nothing.
The thoughts ran through the young girl's mind as she made her way down the side of her houses' table, scouting for the perfect spot to perk herself for the next hour or so. It was evening by now so the Great Hall was always quieter, with a few students from each house hanging around in small groups, giggling away to themselves, having 'fun'. Falentra would always scoff in reaction, but how was she to know any different, or have that feeling of having a group of friends? She grew up around adults so having a laugh and acting like a normal twelve-year-old was somewhat difficult for her to understand.
The perfect spot had been found with the warmth of the fireplace just a few metres behind her. Sounds of the fire crackling in the background as she ate was a somewhat peaceful one. The table in front of her was filled with mountains of food. Food that was always hard to look at and adjust to in her case. There wasn't a need for all it all. The kids were like animals if they thought they could demolish the lot of it.
Falentra had grown up with a meal in front of her every day, but it wasn't much at all. She was used to receiving small portions and nothing more. If she was to eat any more than a bowl of soup with some bread, or a turkey sandwich she would probably throw up. But she was grateful to have such delicious food before here nonetheless.
⠀⠀⠀ By the time she had finished off a warm meal, she decided to scan the area and do her usual bit of people watching. There was one particular boy that stood out from the rest. Mainly because he was sat alone like herself, but he was reading rather than eating. Wouldn't he be in the Library for that or The Study Room? He seemed to be wearing a confused expression, or a really focused on. She may have been completely off, but there was a high chance that she was right. Reading people was some sort of gift to her.
The evening had been a somewhat boring one, so Falentra decided to go over to the boy and joke around a bit with him. Not in the sense of being a pester. No. She hated that herself, but to share with him her own version of 'fun'. She stood from her seat and walked over to the Hufflepuff Table to wear the boy was sat. Her eyes narrowed and focused to take a closer look; observing the Hufflepuff as he hadn't seemed to notice her presence yet. ''Looks like your strugglin' with summat there. Aren't you Hufflepuffs meant to be smart? Or is that Ravenclaw?'' She thought for a moment, but cared little for a response. She simply said it just to annoy the boy. It was her humour showing, but most the time would come across as her being a bully. ''If you are strugglin' with questions, why don't you stop being a stubborn arse and get yourself down to a professors office?... Or maybe I could help?'' She smiled confidently down at Reid before throwing herself down onto the seat beside him, a loud thump followed straight after from the sudden force of her dropping onto the wood.
