Trick or Treating
Hogwarts and it's magical decorations were amazing throughout the year. In Fall, the cold stone walls gained life as pumpkin vines crawled up the cracks and crevices. Falling orange, red and brown leaves appeared at the tops of the tall hallways and slowly wafted down before nearly touching the ground before vanishing into thin air. Pumpkins and squash decorated corners and centres of tables. Halloween was around the corner as well and abandoned hallways sported realistic cobwebs featuring spiders and creepy crawlies. The ghosts we're having a great time as well in this season. This was a prefect time to emerge from behind corners and through stall walls.
Adelaide was helping to lead a trick or treating group. It was a small group of five students who she would help accomplish the most vital part of Halloween, the getting candtly part.
It was exciting for Adelaide, as the student were permitted to dress up for this event, even though it was not quite yet Halloween. It was to get more into the theme of it, and provided then a chance to try out their costumes if they had them yet.
Adelaide would not be joining them in dressing up, as her costume wasn't finished. But she would enjoy see what the children had come up with.
Her group, along with most other, met in the Great Hall. She held up with her wand a magical little number six so her group would know where to meet. Once they all got grouped together Adelaide would give then their first riddle.

Find the place where they hone the blade
Far sharper still than the sword godric made
For all students, is a place reserved
Achievements earned, Failure deserved.

Sorry about this delay. I am taking over this group for Sorrel Wright as she is too busy to handle it. You all may come up with the answer in thread or OOC. Either way, post the answer, as well as as many posts you need beforehand, and we will continue on.

Trick or Treating
Phaedra had never gone Trick-or-Treating before. She lived in the scenic countryside of Manchester and lacked any neighbours to visit in the first place, and her parents most certainly wouldn't have allowed her to travel to the muggle-populated city for something as trivial as a bag of sweets. Needless to say, she was extremely excited about the opportunity to partake in the holiday. It was something that most children would look forward to, and despite her strict upbringing, Phaedra was no different in that regards.
The girl had to get creative for her costume. Since it was her first time, she wanted to keep things simple - a plain, knee-length, black dress that she had found tucked away behind the rest of her clothes. Her cat ears she had to borrow from a roommate, but they sat perfectly on top of her head as if they were hers, the plastic headband blending seamlessly into her dark hair. Three daintily drawn whiskers (face-painted on) were displayed on both sides of her face each, giving her an undeniable feline appearance. Of course, she'd dress up as her favourite animal for Halloween. What else was there?
After an announcement, it was time for the students to meet up with their groups. Her group would be Group Six, five girls in total, and over the heads of shuffling students, Phaedra managed to find the professor who would be leading them that night.
"Hello, professor," she said to Ayers, in a polite, yet restrained tone. Phaedra was distrustful of the school's adults, especially after they, in her eyes, were unable to prevent the previous year's mishaps from occurring. Still, the woman was very pretty and, not to mention, she taught a subject that Phaedra had already made up her mind to take the next year. It wouldn't hurt to try to get on the professor's good side and if she was teaching something as intricate as Ancient Runes, then she must be very a capable witch indeed.
The second-year nodded as she received the riddle. "Thank you." She was a Ravenclaw - riddles were kind of their thing - but getting a little help wouldn't kill anyone. Phaedra brought her finger to her chin to think.
It didn't seem too hard, but she was still at a bit of a loss. The first two lines reminded her of the Sorting Hat, which would be found in the Headmaster's Office. However, the last two made her think of the Trophy Room. She couldn't wait for the rest to arrive so they could crack the code together and begin. Candy was awaiting!

Trick or Treating

Felicem Vesperam Sanctam!
Happy Halloween! The words meant. In the few Halloweens that had passed, not one phrase of English had passed her lips. Although she was not fluent, she had taken it upon herself to study the language of the origins of Halloween: the Celts. Furthermore, it was a great opportunity to practice vocabulary that she would never use otherwise.
This wasn’t, of course, the very first time Cel had gone trick-or-treating, but it might as well have been. Vague, faint memories of jack-o’-lanterns, trays of candy and scratchy costumes swam through the depths of her mind, resurfacing occasionally but allowing her no more than a mere glimpse before disappearing again. There weren’t many children in the University of Oxford, either, and she’d spent her few holidays there sitting in her room, scouring texts of the history of Halloween amid mounds of candy that Parker would bring for her. She’d gone once, maybe twice, to brave the halls of Brasenose College and collect saccharine sweets from loving undergraduates with candy, but she’d soon retreated into her rooms to bury herself in sugar and books. Needless to say, it wasn’t very good for the pages.
Usually the young Ravenclaw would dress up as a cat, or a book character, or something else equally simple. She’d been known to make her own costumes from bare materials, and usually she didn’t have much time to complicate-- just because she didn’t go trick-or-treating didn’t mean she couldn’t show up at sweet shops in her costume. This year, though, she’d allowed herself to be just a little more ambitious than usual.
Her costume was still simple: a few pretty pieces of gold wire and some large sheets of white silk were the only most difficult to obtain. Weekends had supplied her with enough time to whipstitch and baste her way to the dress’s final form, but her real lifesaver had been Professor Wright. The Gryffindor Head of House had aided her to no end, color-changing and helping her plan and even curling her her hair into soft curls and setting them to crown her temple in a beautiful Grecian half-up. A delicate gold circlet rested across her head, and Greek armlets spiraled around each arm, and white silk was draped smoothly in the form of a Greek dress, cinched at the waist with a golden cord.
Perhaps the one thing that distinguished her costume from any other Greek goddess’s would be the little plush pig that she carried. Its back opened for a treat basket, a perfect accessory for her costume. That, too, was modified by Professor Wright, although she still had no idea where the stuffed pig itself had come from in the first place.
Casting her eyes about the group warily, she was glad to see at least a couple familiar faces. Phaedra, one of her dormmates, was dressed as a classic black cat, she noticed - that was a costume she had chosen a few years back, and one that she considered using as a last-minute costume if she ran out of time. The other Ravenclaw girl had done a good job of keeping it simple enough to not look cluttered but detailed enough to suit the environment.
Riddles! The Study of Ancient Runes Professor had handed them a riddle! A familiar sense of excitement rose up in her, bubbling up and threatening to spill out. She was a Ravenclaw, of course, for a reason. Tentatively she peered over Phaedra’s shoulder, her eyes scanning the four-lined poem a couple of times before tilting up towards the heavens in careful consideration.
”Blade,” she spoke nonchalantly, forgoing a greeting. “Well, clearly the riddle doesn’t mean a literal blade, since the Sword of Gryffindor is pretty much considered one of the sharpest… likely it means a metaphorical blade.” Could it be the blade of grass? The blade of wit? The sharpness of a mind? Her thoughts stalled. “Achievements earned, failures deserved… could it be a classroom of some sort? If the blade is knowledge, I mean,” she added on as if it was an afterthought. The girl oft skipped vocalization of her thoughts; she resolved to do her best not to do so tonight.
