Anastasia's stomach was doing cartwheels as she entered the Great Hall, but she did her best not to show it. She always seemed perfectly cool and confident, and she wasn't about to let that crack just because she was a tad nervous. She knew she had plenty of reason to be - for one, she was a first year, so she didn't know the castle very well just yet, and for another, she was a fairly new prefect, so this was the first big thing sh was helping out with. Still, she was determined that the whole thing would go perfectly. She had too much to lose if it didn't.

Her parents were still angry about her sorting, and angrier still about her choice to join the newspaper staff. She hadn't even told them about her new position as prefect. She'd decided to wait a bit and mention it when she was bragging informing them about something else she'd done. Something along the lines of "I was helping out with this school event, with all the other prefects. I mentioned I was prefect in one of my previous letters, didn't I?" She smiled a bit as she imagined her parents' reaction to that. They'd be torn between being thrilled that their only daughter had been appointed a prefect within her first year at school and being furious at her for completely ignoring their instructions. They had told her to keep her head down and not call attention to the fact that she was in Gryffindor, not Slytherin. So, what had she done? She had been a loud and proud Gryffindor, wearing her robes nearly all the time, even when she didn't have to, joined the newspaper, and most recently, become a prefect for Gryffindor. It was safe to say that Anastasia didn't exactly do "keep her head done".

Her normally sleek and straight hair was in a high, curly ponytail that Anastasia wasn't quite used to. It swung back and forth as she reached the appointed place and began to wait for the members of her group to arrive so they could get started. In addition to the ponytail, she was rather self conscious about her costume. She hadn’t actually dressed up for Halloween before, so even her relatively simple costume felt silly. Her drawn on whiskers and nose felt weird, but she rather liked it.

I'll wait for you all to make posts to introduce yourselves to each other before I make my next post, at which point Anastasia will hand the five of you a riddle that leads to a location somewhere in the castle.

Amongst yourselves (either in owls, discord, in this thread, or whichever other mode of communication you prefer) you must figure out the answer. Once you figure it out, only one of you must post in this thread your guess (decide amongst yourselves). I won't tell you whether it's wrong or right, rather I'll just make a thread in the location you guessed and things will happen in that place according to whether you got it right or wrong.

Keep in mind that this adventure happens over the course of one day (in RP); however, ooc-ly it may take longer. If someone doesn't post within a week (by October 22nd), it will be assumed that person didn't show up and the adventure may continue on without them so that no one is holding their peers up.

Halloween was the best time of the year. Duh.

Trick-or-treating was a staple. So was pumpkin bread, and comfy scarves, and dark orange maxi skirts, but trick-or-treating was notably the biggest event of October. November's Día de los Muertos would herald the inevitable winter, but October 31st would be the big event of the month.

It surprised her that Hogwarts would celebrate such a No-Maj holiday, and so early on in the month. She knew that they decorated for Halloween, but didn't realize that they trick-or-treated. However, she would agree to go trick-or-treating with Scott Alexander, and she would do so in the most rebellious, most stupid way possible. That was, after all, her style- rebelliously stupid.

As she strutted her way down to the Great Hall, her eyes would be ablaze with a wicked excitement, and her heavy Doc Martens would echo up and down the hallways. Perched jauntily on her head would be a bright red Santa Hat, and she appeared to have dyed her bathrobe bright red with hair dye from her dormitory. Black leggings and a black shirt would be worn under her robe, and red and white striped candy cane socks could be seen peeking out from under the tongue of her combat boots.

She looked ridiculous, but she didn't mind. She felt powerful in her getup, and certainly acted like it as she stormed into the Great Hall, a mischevious grin on her face. "Hello, Miss Beckett," she said curtly, nodding at the Gryffindor prefect. Her American accent remained strong and unwavering- in fact, her entire body just felt sort of... American. "Cute costume."

"Christmas is my favourite." He said to himself, nodding as a matter-of-factly at the still impressively decorated crannies of the castle. He didn't have anything against Halloween, absolutely not, though the pleasantly insignificant question had still been on his mind for a while- since nothing else much was. His mother, he knew, would agree with him.. family and warmth and closeness, the two were all about that. Maybe even Silas would admit he liked it better, but the rest of his family Scott swore would curse him whilst taking Samhain's side. Candy and costumes and tricks, those two were all about that.

"Halloween's good too." He admitted, and went through the doors to the great hall.

His mother would've made him change. With the ragged hand-me-down trousers and layered button-ups, as well as the painted nose and roughened-up hat under his arm, he looked like an old drifter. Though one shouldn't assume that was his costume! He was dressed as the Scarecrow from The Wizard of Oz, perhaps even with the thought in mind that should he reference one of her few favourite muggle movies, Gretchen would've allowed him be seen in that apparel.. Either way, there wasn't much she could do about it now.

"Hello there you two! Happy Halloween, already, I suppose!"

As Scott strutted up to them, happily lifting his hat in a greeting though once again not placing it on his head, the girls' costumes had him shine up even more. "..And merry Christmas? Brilliant! I like Christmas. And you're a cat! The nose paint itches, doesn't it? Scott Alexander, I don't think I've introduced myself to you before."

She trotted towards the entrance of the Great Hall, her eyes alight with curosity. For once, she'd try to have fun other tha act like her usual, isolated self. Her garb was an interesting one consisting of a black ragged cloak and mask that looked oddly similar to an appearance of a dementor. Her eyes fell on the group and she made her way to them a bit curious to see what this ay had in store for them. She nodded smiling at the prefect and the others."Hey,guys. Love the costumes, that holiday apparel is amazing."She added to the other girl. This was going to be an fun evening. "Name is Elena, Elena Jangleton."She added smiling what surely would have been a terrifying sight in her dementor garb. Dementors didnt smile, or did they? The thought was an interesting one.

In a sense, she was also anxious about the upcoming challenges. The group seemed easy and calm now but the girl was positive once they started, some of them would be not as keen to continue on this adventure. It was after all a night of ghastly surprsies that awaited them at every corner."Are we waiting on anyone else?"She asked counting the number of heads. The more, the better, she thought. She barely knew these people but they were about to embark on this frightful adventure together. She had met the prefect once on the boat ride but that was about it. She shifted fromm foot to foot exicted about what horrors lay in store for them.

[FONT="Century Gothic"]Ah... Quinn's favorite time of year right next to ya know Christmas. Walking down the halls of the old scottish castle, there was a definite creep factor to the now decorated corridors. A little bit of a pep was in his step, and boy was he decked out. It took him quite sometime to actually get the necessary materials together though.

He was dressed in dark green suit slacks,, a jet black form fitting dress shirt. He wore a tie of a deep purple color, and over all of that he wore a suit jacket of the same dark green color as the slacks. The main difference was that the color and breast pockets for the jacket were of a light purple color, and about a dozen question marks of varying sizes adorned the jacket they were a darker green then the jacket so they would stand out more. Additionally he had black dress shoes, purple gloves, and a green bowler hat with a purple sash on it. To finish up his mysterious ensemble he wore a dark forest green domino mask and had a small plastic cane to top it off that he managed to bring from home.

Making his way to the entrance of the great hall, he eventually met his group. His eyes lighting up with excitement and curiosity as they fell onto his group. "Ami!" He excitedly ran over to his close friend, "Hey that's a neat outfit!" He chuckled quickly turning his attention to the rest of the group recognizing no one else. "Well me name be Quinn Healy, and it's a pleasure to make your acquaintance!" He energetically blurted out pressing his cane down. He tipped his hat bowing.

He glanced around a wicked smile on his outfit. He wondered if anyone would recognize the fact he was dressed as the riddler, his fiery orange curls being mostly hidden by the bowler hat.

Anastasia smiled at the redhead as she approached. She quite liked the girl's costume, since Christmas was probably her favorite holiday. The others were great and all, but none of the rest of them came with as many presents as Christmas, so that was that. "You too!" she told her, scanning the crowd to see if any of the other members of her group were on their way yet. Shortly, a Gryffindor boy approached. Anastasia vaguely thought that he was one of the other prefects, but they hadn't actually met before. "Anastasia Beckett, and I quite like your costume by the way," she replied brightly. She wondered if he was any specific scarecrow or just a generic one. The only one she could think of was the one from that book with the green witch and the scared lion. Wizard of something. It was one of the few muggle novels her parents had let her read, but it had been ages since she'd read it, so she couldn't remember it all that well.

"Hi, Elena," Anastasia said, glad for a familiar face, even if the only time they'd really spoken had been in their boats to the Great Hall. That did strike her as a tad odd since they were both first-year Gryffindor girls, but she knew that she had been surprisingly busy and assumed Elena had as well. "We're waiting on two more."

"Lovely to meet you too, Quinn," Anastasia said, glancing at his getup. Unlike the other members of her group, she hadn't the faintest idea what the red-headed boy was dressed up as. "I'm Anastasia Beckett." It occured to her that they might have known who she was, since her name could have been on a sign up sheet or something, but she figured it would hardly hurt to confirm things.

The young Gryffindor glanced around and did a quick headcount. They were still missing one person, but the other groups were starting to leave, and she didn't want to make everyone else wait because one person wasn't there on time.

"Alright, here's the riddle to get us started," she said, pulling out a slip of parchment. She read the riddle aloud before holding the paper out for someone to take.

"So, you lot will have ten minutes to discuss it, and then you can pick somebody to come tell me. Of course, I'll just take you wherever you say, I won't tell you whether or not it's correct. Questions?" she said. She looked at the group to make sure there weren't any issues before taking a seat at one of the nearby tables and pulling out her History of Magic homework. It wouldn't hurt anything to spend a few minutes going over her answers.

Here we go! Jaden did not reply to my owl so as of right now, I don't think he'll be joining us. I'll let y'all know if that changes!

You will have one week exactly to post (Nov 2), but please try to make it less so we can get the tour going? Discuss amongst yourself the answer to this riddle, and when you think you have figured it out, pick someone to write out a reply with your answer! Good luck! <3

She mused over the riddle, her brain working in overtime. Riddles. The one thing she hated. She looked at the others seeing if they had any bright ideas."You guys have any bright ideas?"She said looking at their faces. What had a head but never wept? How did that even make sense? She ran her hands through her hair as the clock ticked down. That was the last thing she needed, a time limit but it was there and she loved a good challenge even if it did have to be in the form of a riddle. After much discussion and opinions, a answer was settled upon. She looked up at the prefect, praying inwardly this was the correct one."A river. The answer we are going with is a river."She annoucned confidently, a hopeful expression on her face.

Her fingers played with the edge of her dementor costume as she waited for the verdict. It had to be right, it seemed like a fairly easy riddle but then again, she wasnt really a riddle person. The first-year in a sense was curious to find out what would happen if they got it wrong. Maybe a ghost wouldmpop out and chase them down the hallways or perhaps they would be left on the grounds during the dark hours to fend off any potential creatures. None of those options sounded like something she would enjoy. Elena plastered a smile onto her face which was amusing given her dementor getup. The sight must have been terrifying.

After about ten minutes, Anastasia folded up her homework and walked back over to her group. She was rather interested to see what the group would think the answer to the riddle was. She had figured it out fairly quickly, although she'd known the location beforehand, so that didn't mean all that much. Still, she loved riddles and was looking forward to seeing what her group thought about them.

"A river is a good answer, so where exactly do you think we're heading?" Anastasia replied when Elena told her the answer to the riddle. As she waited for a reply from Elena, or really anyone in the group, her fingers drummed restlessly against her thigh. Upon becoming aware of her unconscious movement, she quickly stilled her fingers and hoped none of the others had noticed. Her mother had always scolded her when she'd started fidgeting, no matter what the circumstance. Anastasia was hardly a nervous person, but she was naturally quite fidgeting and liked to be moving as much as possible.

Upon hearing a suggestion of a location, she grinned and said: "Well, off we go!

She turned on her heel, her ponytail swinging as she lead the group out of the Hall. She was doing fairly well so far, or at least, she sincerely hoped that she was. Still, seeing as most of the group were second years, she didn't think the tour aspect of their adventure was as important as it might be for other groups.

OOC Note - Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry I didn't post this sooner! I wrote it up and thought I posted it but never did!

The thread is now whatever location is suggested first. You all have a week(November 17) to post a reply if you'd like, and then I'll post again with the result of the journey and the next riddle. Good luck!

Since no one else seems to want to post...

Does Hogwarts even have a river? Ami thought to herself as Elena announced the answer to Anastasia. The only body of water anywhere near the school was the Great Lake, but a lake wasn't the same thing as a river, that was just an outrageous abuse of geography... shaking the argument from her mind, she turned to Anastasia, offering her idea. "I think it's the Great Lake- because Hogwarts doesn't have any other bodies of water?"

It was logical enough to her. If you couldn't have a river, couldn't you settle for something that was close enough to a river? No one else seemed to have any better ideas; or if they did, they didn't offer them up to be heard. Their group was so quiet, which was more than a little unusual; two of the coolest people she knew were in the group, and they were not, by any means, introverts.

Anastasia quickly marched off, and Ami supposed that they had no other choice but to follow. Without really waiting for anyone else, she followed Anastasia as she led them outside onto the grounds, the group tromping along down the path to the Great Lake. It was a path that she, herself, had trodden many times when she just wanted to get out of the castle, but that had always been during the daytime, in broad sunlight, and it was usually by herself.

But now, she was with a group of people, and the sun was hidden behind a mass of clouds that day. Shivering in the chill of the air, she couldn't help but wish that she had brought something slightly more substantial to wear to ward off the chill of October. "Anastasia, just exactly what are we doing down by this lake?" she asked aloud.

Anastasia motioned for the others to stop as they reached the Great Lake. The Gryffindor glanced around when they arrived at the Great Lake, making sure she hadn't forgotten anyone. Once she was satisfied, she faced the group and smiled. The group did seem rather quiet, which she found a tad unnerving. Still, she supposed that was better than having an unruly group that she had to get to stop talking so she could give instructions.

Upon hearing the Hufflepuff girl, Ami, ask a question, she faced the older girl. "Excellent question, Ami!" Anastasia told her. "We're looking for a ghost that has our next riddle, so let's spend out and start looking for him." Anastasia was a bit surprised at her own level of perkiness, given the fact that she was rather tired.

She'd been told what the riddles were in advance, but she hadn't actually been told where she was supposed to go, so she was only slightly more informed than her group. Sure, she had guesses, but she'd be as surprised as the rest of them if they were right or wrong. She wasn't exactly sure how she was supposed to find a ghost, seeing as it could be practically anywhere, but she supposed she was about to find out.

OOC - Y'all have until Thursday (Nov 22) to write your character looking for a ghost. After that, I will post whether this is the correct location or not and we'll go from there. Please feel free to post more than once as long as someone else posts between them. Have fun!
