Darren remembered Halloween as a dull time throughout his childhood. He was forced to attend banquets and play nice with the other Pureblood families. Even from a young age, he wasn’t interested in socializing or frivolous parties. No, he was much more the quiet sort and preferred plants and animals to people. Holidays weren’t his favorite - his daughter being away at school in America and the rest of his family not talking to him after he left his job at the Ministry years ago. Hogwarts was his home in every sense of the word.

He could do without all the spooky nonsense about the castle. The students seemed to enjoy themselves though, so he helped put it all together every year. His favorite part of the decor were the creepy crawlies that were enchanted to move at random times, scaring any passerby. The ghosts seemed to particularly love the events, helping out with riddles and giving out candies. On the way towards the Great Hall, he side-eyed a poltergeist. They were given a little leeway since it was a spooky time but once next month came, he’d be cracking down on them again. Not like they feared him anyway.

Other groups were arriving, the students filing into the Great Hall. Darren found an unoccupied area near the Professor's tables and waited for the five to arrive. He knew their names but didn't know anything about them. It was his own fault but ever since his daughter moving to be with her mother's side of the family in America, he had distanced himself from the students and his fellow staff members. He was already introverted by nature but the event was something he was jumping into, wanting to get back to his usual optimistic and productive self again.

ooc notes:

Feel free to post introducing yourselves and getting to know one another. After a bit of posting, Darren will give a riddle for the group to solve. The answer will be a location somewhere within Hogwarts or the Grounds.

Discuss the answer as a group (whatever method of communication you prefer -- HiO owls, discord or otherwise). Once you figure it out, as a group you'll decide which of your characters will tell Darren the answer. I won't tell you whether it's right or wrong at that time; I'll post in that location and you'll see what happens then lol.

Timewise, this adventure is happening over the course of one day (in rp); however, ooc-ly it may take close to a week to finish. The first riddle will be posted on the 18th, unless I see that everyone has posted and is ready to go before that date.

Have fun and Happy (early) Halloween! :)

Trick or Treat was one of the many things Elena had not experienced. When she saw Rorie’s name on the sign-up sheet, she thought she might as well. Who ever said no to free candy? She arrived at the appointed time to meet up with the sherper, she had got an owl saying it was the keeper of the grounds so she looked around for him.

In honor of halloween she had gone for a darker look, the owl hadn’t said anything about costumes so she had tentatively chosen to look clockpunk. She had a pair of goggles on her head, a green vest, black leggings, a black silk shirt, black knee boots, and a black flowing high-low skirt. She had dyed her hair green for the occasion and was still nervous enough around that she had sharp hair pins in her hair, with little gears on the ends. She had gold antique pocket watch in her vest that she had gotten from a shop in diagon alley.

She eventually spotted the groundskeeper, Darren she remembered, Darren Hurst. She strode over to him.

“Hi, I’m Elena, but my friends calls me Puck, are you Darren?” She grinned at the man.

Sorry, Amadea got my OCs name wrong and I kept forgetting to fix it. I’m listed as Elana.

I'm weak my love.

Rorie scrambled into the hall, wearing a yellow sweater with black leggings and some yellow shoes, the accessories some lion ear headband and a lion tail. She had, of course, had her costume and hair designed and done by Talia, the most fashionable person she really knew and was comfortable asking for help. Running up behind Elena, she hugged her from behind, saying, "Boo!"

She laughed, joining into the conversation. "Sorry, I'm Rorie Thompson, and I'm supposed to be a lioness, though i'm not sure if I actually look like one, to be fair. Nice to meet you all, this will be so fun!"

Rorie hadn't really trick or treated before. The closest she got was going around London and asking for food. Definitely not the same thing.

She smiled and readjusted her lion ears. The costume did give off a lion vibe, but she wasn't full on decorated in costume. It would be easier to move and more comfortable that way. And besides, the clothing smelled like flowers from being with Talia.

"I'm ready to solve some riddles," Rorie said with a laugh. She had been waiting for this day since it had been announced, and now that it had come she was bursting with excited energy.

As Carrie headed for the designated meeting spot for her group in the trick or treat event, at the Great Hall, she was currently questioning the wisdow of the signing herself up for it. She was more ambivalent about it than anything. On one hand, she had only good memories of Halloween back home. She had fun going out with her friends and younger members of family like that. She had often ironically gone as a witch, being the only occasion where she could get anything even close to the truth out without a hint of trouble. She had had to be careful even there, but it had been fun. On the other hand, it made her miss it all, including one specific person, who she had the most fun playing it all out with, who she would never get the chance to do so again, for more reasons than one ...

She had also become much more easily scared than ever before and Hogwarts could probably do the best scares of them all, for very obsvious reasons. It also seemed to involve ghosts, which made her more than a bit uncomfortable. Nothing against them per se, but they reminded of death and that made her remember everything that had happened shortly before coming here. She could only be thankful that it took as much magic to become a ghost as it did to see one and so at least there wasn't that possibility to add to her conscience.

In anycase, she wasn't one to back out of a commitment, so here she was and she was gonna try to make the best of it. Obsviously, witch wasn't much of a costume here, even the muggle interpretation of one, which might also come off as offensive, so she had go with another direction Fortunately, she had gone as a sort of doctor one other year and she hadn't grown much since them, so she had had the child-sized white lab coat owled in preparation. She hadn't even had to change her overall appearence much, just making her hair a bit more disheveled than usual to fit with the bad doctor or scientist stereotype that some shows had. A small replica, sealed vial with some oddly colored, bubbling and of course actually harmless, liquid, completed the whole get up.

It then seemed she had reached the approapriate location, as she spotted the groundskeeper, Darren Hurst, leader for their group in the activity, along with a few other girls who seemed to have just arrived as well and introduced themselves with names that matched up with what had been on the list. The girl dressed as lioness, Rorie, seemed rather excited about the whole thing, which was quite contagious, to be honest.

She then spoke up, "Uh, h-hi ... I'm Carrie and I hope to help us find a ... Solution to these riddles," as she flashed the vial, not sure if the purposely bad pun would have the desired effect, but willing to give it a shot. In anycase, she then added, "Nice to meet you all as w-well ..." as she tried to psych herself up for it all.

Marissa slowly made her way into the Great hall and over to her group. Her facial expression showed that she did not want to be here and looked entirely bored. This trip was obviously not going to be fun at all for her. Mari's costume was a pirates outfit accompanied by black combat boots and golden skull earrings, a not so original halloween outfit at all, but a generic one she probably picked out the day before. Dark circles were obvious under her eyes, and it defiantly was not make up. Lack of sleep made it look as if she was half-dead or apart of her outfit.

As Marissa approached the small group, she did not even bother to greet or show any sign of interest to them. She stood slightly away from them with her arms crossed over her chest, as if she was protecting herself from something. Halloween had always been a cheerful holiday for her. Her mother would used to dress Claryssa and her into matching outfits or outfits that were somehow linked in someway. But now that had all changed since only a few months ago her twin sister had died. And Marissa was still not over it. Maybe one day she will be. Mari stayed quiet for two reasons; not wanting to socialise and because she was selectively mute. Communication was sure going to be hard.
