"You might belong in Gryffindor,
Where dwell the brave at heart,
Their daring, nerve, and chivalry
Set Gryffindors apart"

—The Sorting Hat

The Great Hall is a large room with four long tables where students of each House sit during the day and at mealtimes. A majestic enchanted ceiling that mirrors the outside weather is watching over people in the room.

When you just pass the door from the Entrance Hall, Gryffindor table is next to the far side of the Hall. You have to walk past all three other tables to get to sit with the Lions. Maybe you will be able to eat and discuss with Nearly Headless Nick.

Rosalie couldn't quite help the excited squeak that came out of her mouth the moment she heard the Sorting Hat declare "Gryffindor!" For a moment, she thought that she might be a Ravenclaw like her mother before her, but, to be honest, she wasn't really surprised by this result at all! She always said that her Father would have been a Gryffindor if he hadn't been born a muggle. She skipped happily towards the Gryffindor table, waving at her new classmates as she did. She plopped down into a seat next across from another girl her age who had just introduced herself; Pandora was her name. She sat for just a moment to take it all in; the enchanted ceilings, the plethora of food, the Professors with welcoming smiles on their faces. Oh wow, she thought to herself I just can't believe I'm here!. Suddenly remembering she was hungry, she draped a napkin across her lap and smiled at the girl across from her.

"Hello Pandora! It's great to meet you! My name is Rosalie Rutherford. Are you excited for your first year at Hogwarts as well?"

Rosalie piled her plate salad, roast and potatoes as she waited for Pandora to respond. Manners, dear one her father's voice rang in her mind and she picked up her fork to eat in polite, normal sized bites, rather than the 'stuff her face' dining she felt rather more inclined to at the moment.

She would miss her parents, but she already couldn't wait for classes to start!

It was his time, and Gryffindor was his result, house of the brave and courageous, stereotypically. He was not at all unhappy, but if anything, startled. He had never thought of himself as brave, or courageous, or whatever traits that Gryffindor students picked up.

It seemed that there were things that the hat knew, and he didn't.

As much as it seemed to freak him out, it did appear to make sense. The hat was tasked with sorting first years into their appropriate houses, and he nodded as he headed to the Gryffindor table.

There were waves from older students, which was nothing less than a nightmare for anti-social boys like Calvin. Still, he found it in himself to sit down and crack a joke, which unfortunately lacked enough laughs for his satisfaction, only three. Then, he was stunned at the arrival of the supernatural display of food brought before him.

Usually, he could stop himself, it was rather easy. However, today was very, very different. He went straight for the first yorkshire pudding he could find and dug in. It was, already, a meal he had never experienced before, and he was straight onto the next piece of food he could get his excited hands on, at a fast pace.

"Wow..." That was all Calvin was able to say. He was stunned.

Jennifer felt absolutely bewildered. Her mom had been a Ravenclaw, and she was a Gryffindor! She didn't have to feel surprised though. Ever since her mom had died when Jennifer was five, her muggle father taught her to be brave, and daring. Jennifer felt a hint of sadness hit her, when she thought about her mom. She always thought she was going to follow her mother's steps, but now things were different. Although she couldn't help but to feel a bit disappointed, but she shrugged it off, and sat down at the Gryffindor table. Gryffindor wasn't entirely bad, all the houses seemed pretty good, and if the Sorting Hat said Jennifer was to be in Gryffindor, she was going to be in Gryffindor. Although she still couldn't help but doubt herself about being a Gryffindor. Jennifer looked around and saw that the others were looking at her strangely. She sighed, and decided that having a few friends wouldn't hurt her.

She smiled at the other Gryffindor's, and decided that the only way to make friends was to socialize, which probably wasn't her strongest suit. "Hey! My name is Jennifer." She paused for a moment and smiled, making sure that the people around her could hear her over loud noises from all the tables combined. "How do you like Gryffindor?"

Sean made his way dreamily over to the Gryffindor table after his Sorting, barely hearing how the rest of the first years had been Sorted. He daydreamed through most of the Headmaster's beginning-of-the-year speech, but was suddenly brought back into the real world when loads of food suddenly appeared on the tables before him. There were pyramids made of chicken legs, mountains of mashed potatoes, and rivers of gravy. Though he had most definitely never gone hungry at home, this was still more food than Sean was used to seeing at one time...and he was a growing boy.

As Sean was piling a little bit of everything onto his plate, he heard a girl's voice ask, "How do you like Gryffindor?"

He looked to his right and left, not sure who she was talking to...perhaps she was just asking in general. Sean finished spooning portions of food onto his plate, and when no one else answered her, Sean supposed he may as well. After all, it was rude to just ignore someone.

"S'pose I'm not quite sure yet," Sean replied, jerking his head towards the girl to indicate that he was speaking to her, "Just been sorted. Me whole family was Slytherin...all the way back to me earliest recorded ancestors. I tell you what...not lookin' forward to writin' me parents. Don't think they're going to react well when they find out."

Sean shrugged and stuffed a large spoon of mashed potatoes in his mouth, chewing contemplatively. He had never been one to allow words to get in the way of food...something his parents had always detested, as it was poor table manners, and poor table manners was something the affluent family of the Dornans most definitely did not condone.

"I'm thrilled to be in Gryffindor!" Rosalie replied to Pandora, taking another sip of the lemonade she had poured for herself. "My mum was a Ravenclaw when she was here at Hogwarts, but I think the Sorting Hat was right with me." She ate several more bites, listening to the general commotion of the hall and surveying students from the other houses. A girl from Hufflepuff with the most interesting smoke colored hair shyly met her gaze and Rosalie waved to her, wondering if she would see her around.

Sudden movement caught her attention and Rosalie smiled at the three new Gryffindor students as they settled in around her and Pandora. A dark haired girl sat across from her and introduced herself as Jennifer, and Rosalie gave her a small wave as she asked "How do you like Gryffindor?" Rosalie was about to answer herself when a red-haired boy with piercing green eyes answered from beside her. She listened to his answer with an amused smile on her face, watching as he shrugged his shoulders with a thoughtful look on his face. Rosalie turned to face him, flicking her long hair over her shoulder as she did so.

"An entire family of Slytherins, huh? It's so interesting that you're the only Gryffindor out of them all. You don't think the Sorting Hat could have been wrong, do you?" She asked curiously. Unable to keep eye-contact with anyone for a long period of time, let alone someone with such an intense gaze, Rosalie turned her eyes to the enchanted ceiling again, still amazed at the star-lit sky.

"Your parents will be proud of you no matter what, don't you think? She asked with a hopeful smile on her face, glancing at the boy once more.

"I'm Rosalie, by the way! I'm glad to meet you all. We'll probably be spending a lot of time together in the Common Room, after all" She said, turning to address Jennifer and the shy boy near them who hadn't said anything yet. She twirled a strand of wavy blonde hair around her finger, just glad to be near so many new people.

As Erin walked away from the sorting hat and towards her table, she made sure to narrow her eyes at the Muppets who called themselves 'Slytherin'. "If I wasn't so knackered after that holy show, Id go over there and batter them so bad their heads would be like a bag of spuds." Her hands would form a fist as she dreamed about doing just that, but eventually she would release them and let out a frustrated sigh. Fighting students on the first day of school probably wouldn't leave her in the best standing with the faculty and student body. She decided to put on her most convincing smile, which really wasn't convincing at all, and continue on her way to the Gryffindor table.

Once she got to the table she almost gasped in amazement...there were brits all over the bloody place! She couldn't help but gawk at some of the more sophisticated students, they looked like they had been ready for this their entire lives. Cautiously, she sat down at the table next to many other fellow Gryffindor. She thought to herself how cool it would be to talk to a brit, where she's from brits were a very rare sight. With a shrug, Erin would place her legs on the table and lean back a bit, all of this ceremony stuff had really taken the energy out of her. But as her eyes scanned the table, she saw a colored drink inside of the goblets. "They're really gonna let us get langered!?" Erin exclaimed, picking up the goblet and taking an excited gulp. To her dismay the drink inside the goblet was not alcohol, it tasted more like grape juice that she used to get when she went to kindergarten. She slowly stopped drinking the juice and placed back onto the table, a disappointed gulp coming from her throat. "Well...that was a bit divvy wasn't it?" She would say with a chuckle, looking to the other students to see if they saw what had just transpired. "The names Erin by the way, pleasure to meet you all...or whatever ya brits say." The last part of the sentence was said under her breath, not meant as an insult but it could certainly be taken as one. She hadn't heard a British accent...well ever, so she looked forward to her classmates responses.

Sean turned his attention to the girl who introduced herself as Rosalie. He pondered her question a few moments before answering, starting with the question regarding the reliablility of the Sorting Hat.

"Hiya! I'm Sean, and no..." Sean replied slowly "I don't think the Sorting Hat was wrong. It seemed quite surprised that I was a Dornan. It said it always finds the perfect match. Maybe it sees things inside us that we can't see ourselves...." Sean then gave a quick bark of laughter, "and no, me mum and dad won't be too thrilled. They go on and on about upholdin' family honor, n' step one has always been being Sorted into Slytherin."

Suddenly, the conversation was interrupted by the sound of Sean's people. A young girl with a thick Cork accent approached the table...okay, so not exactly his people. Even native Irish who were born and raised in northern Ireland couldn't always understand the strange dialect of the Corks. Sean grinned. He knew just how to have fun with a Cork.

"Aaaaw, g'wan!" Sean cried in an affected Cork accent, "Ye'v gotta be coddin' me, like! Cop on to yerself, ye gacky coppernob! Ain't no Brits in 'ere! D'ya know, like?

Sean grinned at the girl, eyes sparkling to show that he was just joshing her around.

"Seriously, though," he said in his normal voice, "Name's Sean. I'm from Dublin. Rest o' deez snappers might be Brits, though."

As Erin waited for the reply of her seemingly British Gryffindor classmates, the silence was interrupted by an extremely familiar dialect...one that she had heard all of her life. As she looked for the origin of the fellow Cork accent, Erin would spot a red haired boy who was very obviously from Ireland. A grin formed on her face as she spotted the Corkonian, his accent gave her a sense of familiarity in this unfamiliar environment. But her excitement was cut short when the boy actually revealed he was from Dublin, and his accent reverted to a more proper Irish accent. Her eyes would flash disappointment for just a moment, before joy and hospitality returned to them.

She would let out a hearty laugh, her hand slamming the table and her other hand holding her stomach. Silverware and plates would make a clattering sound as her hand connected with the wood of the table, after she was done laughing she wiped the tears out of her eyes and took a deep breath. For someone from Dublin, that boy had a deadly Cork accent. Her uncle always told her to be wary of jackeens, he never gave a reason why but she decided to take his word for it. But this Dub seemed to know how to have a good time.

"Ye old ball hopper, that accent was the berries! You sounded just like me oul' fella!" She would give a soft smile to show her recognition for the very accurate accent. Most people cant understand a Cork accent, let alone copy one. "Nice to meet ya! But have a deko at the rest of the table, like, Im tellin ya fella! Brits galore! Not that that's a bad thing, like, my mom was totally doing a line with one before she met my oul' fella. But I swear I've never seen this many of em!"

Before she went off on a tangent, Erin stopped herself and looked back at the boy; she was known for being able to drone on and on for hours but she figured that it probably wasn't the best thing to do when introducing yourself.

Riley felt more excited than nervous as she took a seat upon the high stool at the front of the Great Hall. She'd dreamed of this moment her whole life, and it wasn't going to be ruined by a bit of nerves. As she adjusted her long robes under the seat, she caught a glimpse of her brother, Oliver, sitting at the Ravenclaw table, just as the hat came down over her eyes and its voice filled her head.

AHH yes, another Clarke... It began, making Riley jump a little. I remember your brother...a difficult one, he was...his drive almost put him in Slytherin, but his thirst for knowledge, yes...But we're not here to talk about him, are we? No, no, definitely not. You are not a difficult one to place. Of bold mind and loyal heart, you belong in...

"GRYFFINDOR!" The hat shouted, both inside her head and out loud, creating a strange sensation for the two seconds before the hat was removed from her head and she became aware of the cheers that had erupted from the Gryffindor table. A wide grin spread across her face and she jumped down from the stool, running over to her fellow classmates to greet them. She glanced back towards Ravenclaw and found Oliver. She made eye-contact and stuck her tongue out at him. He'd wanted to be in Gryffindor, their mother's house, when he first came. He didn't seem bothered, however. He rolled his eyes and returned to his kids. Riley, unphased, turned back to her table. There was a moment of panic where she wasn't sure where to sit, but then she spotted a talkative red-head and two other kids sitting together. There was a space beside the red-headed boy, so she made her way towards him.

"Hullo, d'ya mind if I join you all?" She asked, smiling at the three first years.
