Always say ‘hello’ to an Oliviera
Upon seeing the two almost black eyes, along with the light brown hair, sitting a little way down the Gruffindor table- Scott had only one thing in mind:
Always say hello to an Oliviera.
It was his father who, when his mother would remind him to brush his teeth when away from them, would tell him such. Ever since he found out his old friend Christopher Oliviera’s daughter would attend Hogwarts the same year as Scott, it’d been the main priority of his.
Always at least say hello. And ask how her dad is doing. And her mum. Tell her to tell them Jacob Jones says hello.
And Scott had promised to do so every time. Of course, there was no way of really telling if this girl was a family friend, except for to ask. Which was nothing Scott was ever too shy to do.
You two used to play as babies, did you know?
“Hello!” Scott stood up from his seat and carried his plate over to the girl. “Is your name,” and he had to think about this: “Annabella? Oliviera? Because I’m supposed to say hello to her.”
And then he grinned childishly, waiting for a response.

Arebella had been eating in the Great hall. She saw a sandy haired boy walk in and instantly recognize him as an Alexander her parent's always talked about.
She wanted to say something but was still not absolutely sure if he was the person Arebella thought he was. As she remembered that family name she remembered her mother talking about them playing as babies. "You two looked nothing alike and that made it even cuter. Opposites do attract." Arebella always got embarrassed when her mum said things like that, like boys being cute even if she was talking about a baby.
She looked down at her food and decided to maybe say something on the way out being the socially akward person she is. Halfway through her eating the boy came up to her asking Arebella's name and getting it wrong. She understood most people did."It's Arebella Oliviera." She kindly corrected with a nod. She examined his features of sandy blond hair greanish yellowish nearly cat looking eyes and recognized him more and felt like she was having dejavue. "Scott right?" She asked. "Your Scott Alexander! My mum always talks about the Alexander's" She explained. "Our parebts knew eachother from school, correct?"

Scott was getting excited, he'd gotten it right! Well, not the name. He tried very hard to memorize A-ra-bell-a in that moment, then proceeded to sit down next to her.
"That's right," He said. "Scott Alexander. And they must have been because my dad only ever tells me great things about them, and made me promise to say hello to you. Does your parents ever say we played as kids? Mine do."
He began eating from his plate again, perhaps not in the most graceful manner. Perhaps even, if studying his sloppy chewing and semi-open potato-filled grins carefully, Arabella would remember what it was like to be around him as a toddler.
"Every Saturday, dad says, for the longest time, we'd be at our place. It's supposed to be a resting day, but my dad never really cared for that. Says he had to chase us around and was happy to. How are your parents? I have to ask. Your dad? Mum?"
Little bits of food flew as he babbled on. Scott learned to talk later than most kids, so if Arabella could at all remember that, it shouldn't surprise her how he was now trying to make up for it.

Arebella chuckled. He seemed happy to remember her. Now looking at him she remembered more. He learned how to speak later on like her. He was always a fun kid to be around. They were best friends until her parents moved onto a farm in Scotland and she never saw him again until today. Arebella faintly remembers looking through pictures of the two with her mum. Good times. She missed him. She had always remembered the sandy blond haired little boy in the back of her mind and secretly she did misd him. She never really had any muggle friends. They all though she was really hyper but with her magic and ADHD you couldn't blame her.
"Yeah yeah I remember that faintly." She shook her head answering his question about his dad chasing them around the house "My parent's are doing well I suppose. My mum still works for the ministry but my dad opened a shop in the muggle world." She shrugged. "Since we live on a farm it's easy to get a lot of produce and dairy so that's what he sells." She informed. Arebella burst out laughing. "Remember the time you spit out your milk crying!?! You were about three I think!" She asked with a big laugh.

In contrary to names and such, something Scott really does have was a good memory of happenings. And this one he remembered even clearer than most because it had gotten his mother upset.
"I was laughing!" He corrected her. "You'd done something funny, so really it was your fault. And we were in a rush, too, but my mother had to apologize a hundred times before we could leave."
Then Scott tried remembering the farm she was talking about. Though he was fairly sure he'd never been to one in his life. In fact he'd barely been out in the country at all, if you don't count Lancashire.
This confused him, until he remembered his father telling him about Scotland. It's where his father is from, and one of the most common "pros" he'd present Scott's mother with concerning moving there would often be the Olivieras. Though this was never close to enough to convince her. A part of Scott was happy about that. He knew nothing about cows.
"I know nothing about cows." He then said, and it took him a while to realize this statement might seem to come quite out of the blue "Because you live on a farm.. cows." He clarified this, than started to speak faster and faster: "Because you live on a farm you know such things. I really don't. But do you like it? What's the best part of it all? Are you very much into nature and animals, or do you miss living elsewhere? I think I would."
And then finally, "My mum works at the Ministry, too." as he shoved a piece of potato in his mouth.

Arebella scrunched her eyebrows. "Well I can't fully remember if you were laughing or crying but you definitely shot your milk out all over me." Arebella replied with a slight chuckle. She remembered nearly crying and her eyes tearing up but when she replayed the image in her head young her started laughing.
Arebella listened to him ramble on about how he'd never been to a farm and knew nothing about cows. He asked her mutliple auestions about growing up on one with she knew the answers to instantly. "Yes I love the animals there. I do feel very involved in nature I would go to the back woods nearly every day at home. I wouldn't change that for the world." She said hoping she answered all his questions. "I'm not very surprised you don't know much about farms. Well I don't mean that as an offence mind me but you did grow up in a wealthy family correct?" She stated. Arebella remembered his house. It was huge! Well compared to her tiny apartment she had aznd niw living on a farm when she thought back to it she thought of a castle. Not as big as Hogwarts but still very large.

"You did grow up in a wealthy family, correct?"
This embarrassed Scott just a little, but he supposed it was true. Their large, two-floored apartment in Kensington- with its fancy furniture and bright windows.. No matter how many people were there for the moment, there would always be a room somewhere empty and spacious enough to run around in.
He thought for a moment if he'd like to trade such rooms for trees.
"Well.. yes! But you know, it could have been 'worse', if that's what you should call it. My grandmother buys mansions for some in the family. Mansions and farms, property of land and all that. Though I'm not sure they like farms as much as you do, which makes it a shame."
He impaled a piece of pork with his fork and studied it carefully before his nose.
"Because you know, what you say sounds nice. Woods and things. Is it anything like the forest here? Or maybe, I hope not. This one's quite dark. I know we're both Gryffindors but still."
And so he stuffed the piece of pork in his mouth and kept talking.
"Have you had any classes yet? Which ones are you looking forward to?"

Mansion! Arebella thought. She'd vearely ever seen one and his Grandmother byes them for nearly all of his family members! It dawned on Arebella how different Scott's and her family's were. He was wealthy and lived in the city in a big apartment that seemed like a castle to her. She was somewhat poor and lived on a big farm with a tiny cottage. Nearly all her Grandparents had died instead of her mothers mom who she called Avô. She had taught her Portuguese but she was still far from rich.
Arebella took another bite of macaroni from her plate realising she hadn't eaten anything since she started talking to this old friend. He's kinda cute- No Arebella don't think about that stuff your too young. Arebella thought looking into his yellowish greenish eyes until he asked her about her forestg. "The forest? Oh! It's great I do love it it always means adventure. I used to read Transfiguration books in the pine trees back there. It's not even half as scary as the forbidden forest here but I would like to discover that woods." She answered then he asked about classes. "Well I haven't started my classes no. I can't wait for Transfiguraton and astronony though. What about you?" She asked him.

"What about you?"
Scott smiled. "I'm doing better than I'd hoped! Not so much so far, but enough to write my mum about it. Though it won't surprise me if you surpass me by miles once you get started.. Never been the smartest among my friends and you should know!" He laughed at himself, and remembered her being just this tiny bit more clever than him in all situations- and she'd only been around five when he met her last. Didn't feel hard to imagine her doing jus that, reading in a tree.
"Oh you'll do great." He concluded. "I haven't had transfiguration yet but I can't imagine it'll be too long. Not that I know my schedule, don't get any ideas!" He laughed again, but silenced himself with another potato. She was glimmering back at him, and he tried smiling with his mouth closed until he'd swallowed- which was about as mannerly as he got. And he did feel like being mannerly.
He wiped his face with a napkin and looked over the table and then back at Arabella with a thoughtful look.
"Just to be clear though.. transfiguration is the one where you turn one thing into another?"

"Just to be clear though.. Transfiguration is the one where you turn one thing into another?"
Arebella chuckled at this question. "Yes Scott Transfiguration is where you turn one thing into another." She answered with a smile. She hadalready felt like the two had been friends forever. Arebella took a bite of her food and started grabbing for more. She had been starving since the feast for some odd reason. After taking another bite she turned to Scott and breaking the silence she asked. "What classes have you had?" She asked after watching him sloppily eat his potatoes keeping in laughs.
Arebella examined his face for the last time. He was a very good looking boy and when she looked into his eyes she got a wierd feeling. Arebella kept ignoring the fact that she was attracted to him mostly because her whole family always told her she was too young for boys and shouldn't date at this age. Dating didn't mean she couldn't like someone even if it was one of her oldest friends. But she promised to herself that they would remain friends until atleast their third year and then she might might act on it. She smiled to herself taking another bite of her food.
