Coffee And Conversation

Anastasia Beckett had a serious caffeine problem. She didn't think she did, but if you asked literally anyone else, they would tell you that she most certainly did. Sure, she was thirteen and drinking practically the same amount of coffee as she did water, but it was almost exams. Today, however, she wasn't focused on coffee or exams or handsome boys. Alright, she was focused on a handsome boy, but it wasn't for her. She was trying to help out Rafael. As sweet as Lydia was, she could tell that he fancied Alan, and she personally preferred Alan anyway.
She'd been meaning to track him down after the Tug of War game. She'd planned on doing so anyway, but once Rafa had acted like an actual toddler, she'd resolved to ambush talk to Alan at the first opportunity. She hadn't ever tried, but she was sure she would be an excellent wingman. She had had little trouble getting boys to like her when she was traveling, so how hard could it be to get Alan to like Rafa? Alright, maybe Rafa was slightly less amazing than Ana was, but he was still a catch. That was if Alan was into boys. Was he into boys? Ana realized that was something she ought to have confirmed, but she supposed that she would just have to do that when she spoke to him.
As she entered the Great Hall for breakfast, she scanned the room for the older Gryffindor. She wasn't exactly a morning person, but she had been up for hours already and had lost track of how many cups of coffee she'd consumed. As she walked, she caught a glimpse of her target and made a beeline for the boy.
"Alan!" Ana exclaimed as soon as she was close enough she thought he would be able to hear her. "Good morning! How are you? Do you mind if I sit?" She vaguely noticed that she was talked rather quickly and overly perkily for the time of day, but she didn't much care. She wasn't trying to convince Alan of her own amazingness, she was trying to convince him of Rafa's.

Breakfast Time
Alan had been in the Great Hall early for breakfast as per usual, following his early morning routine to a T. He woke up, went for a jog outside right after curfew would allow it, took a shower and then made his way to the great hall for breakfast. His hair was dried off but tousled slightly as he just quickly combed through it, distracted by the growling of his stomach and the general dislike of combing his hair in the morning. He would sit down at the mostly still empty table of the Gryffindor house, running his hand through his hair to make it look acceptable for the breakfast table and began to fill his plate. Two slices of toast, a fried sunny side up egg, breakfast bacon and some roasted tomatoes would grace his plate making up a nutritious breakfast. A custom Gryffindor mug he had gotten from Willow was filled with sweet pumpkin juice that he would occasionally take a sip from while eating what was on his plate.
His plate was about halfway empty when he could hear a familiar voice call out his name, making him gaze up as he searched the vicinity for the source. His search came to a quick end, when Anastasia appeared in his direct line of sight. "Of c-course, t-take a seat! I am f-feeling amazing and y-you?", he would speak up and return the question after having made sure that he had no food stuck between his teeth. "D-Did you w-want to t-talk about s-something?", he would ask the past prefect curiously, not used to being approached during such early hours by someone. Especially by a student that he barely knew.

@Alan VanesAnastasia smiled brightly and sat across from the third year. To be perfectly honest, she didn't know Alan very well, certainly not well enough to be manipulating his love life. Was that going to stop her? Absolutely not.
Her mission was two-fold: first, she had to confirm that Alan was in fact attracted to boys, and second, convince that Rafa was cool and get him to want to seek the Quidditch Captain out. It was a tall order, but the former prefect knew she was up to the task.
She has to do this right though. She supposed that he would find it rather odd if she sat down and started talking about Rafael for no reason. No, she had to have something that lead up to the subject. Biting her lip, she racked her brain. After a moment, she had an excellent idea. Alan was a Gryffindor boy of a certain age, so obviously, he was interested in Quidditch. Perfect!
"Yes, actually. Quidditch. Do you like Quidditch?" she said, drumming her fingers against the table. Between how quickly she was speaking, the fidgeting and her stupid right eye that had been twitching on and off all morning, she was the picture of over-caffeinated, but she had more important things to focus on. Her eyes darted around as she waited for the boy's reply. Alright, maybe she didn't need quite this much coffee. Her eyes fell on the boy's plate and it occurred to her that food was in fact a thing that she needed. Not now though. Playing Cupid was far more important than plebian things like eating.

Coffee And Conversation
He would abandon his plate once the girl that sat down in front of him, or rather across from him on the other side of the table stroke up a conversation with him. For once because he did not want to seem impolite, but the other reason was that he was just really bad at multi tasking even if it was something simple as eating his food. She went on to ask him about quidditch which was such an odd topic to randomly begin talking about with someone you barely knew. Especially since there were no games scheduled anytime soon to his knowledge, but he would not pay much attention to this oddity and faced the girl, shaking away the thoughts of suspicion as he smiled lightly at her.
"I s-suppose so, y-yeah; I've o-only s-seen one game s-so f-far th-though," he would tell her as he reached up to tug a loose strand of hair behind his ear. "D-Do you? W-Was th-there any a-announcement a-about Q-Quidditch, or wh-why are y-you asking?", he would speak out his previous thoughts when the curiosity about such a random topic grew further. He knew the girl in front of him but not because he actually knew her, but because she had been a prefect once and that was about all he knew about her.

@Alan VanesUgh, he wasn't as avid as a fan as Ana was. Still, that was a starter. Although, honestly, what sort of young wizard wasn't obsessed with Quidditch? Alan wasn't making this easy for her exactly, but she was committed to helping Rafa make a better impression on Alan. It wasn't an easy task considering that Ana and Rafa had sort of assaulted someone at the Tug of War game that Alan had organized, but Ana could work wonders. She though she could anyway.
His questions were not particularly helpful, seeing as they turned the conversation away from Rafael, but she supposed ignoring them would seem rather rude. "Oh, no announcements or anything, I was just wondering," she said quickly. "Personally, I adore Quidditch." Here, she paused for a moment, and then acted as though the though had just struck her despite the fact it was the entire reason she had approached him. "So you're really fairly new to observing Quidditch, right? You know who you should talk to? Rafael. He's the captain, and I'm sure he would love to talk Quidditch with you. Rafa's great like that. He really likes to spread his love of Quidditch."
Ana stopped to sip her coffee and also stop herself, since even she was aware this sounded rather odd. Not to mention, she could think of at least three other things Rafa preferred to "spreading his love of Quidditch", one of which was assaulting other at the slightest provocation. That didn't sound as nice though.

Alan would nod slowly as she admitted to him the fact that she adored Quidditch. She even emphasized the word which made Alan tilt his head ever so slightly. Where was she going with this? He would soon find out. Or at least he would find out the surface of the issue without even considering the matchmaking plans that reached below.
She would go about Quidditch and Alan would do his best to listen, but it was not all that many news to him to be fair. He was simply confused as to why she kept talking about Rafael and stressing the fact that he was the captain of the Quidditch team. Well maybe it made sense after all because if the two of them had talked one week or even a couple of days ago, this would have been news to Alan. But he and Rafael, the captain as Anastasia kept titling him, had talked a few days ago and he had found out this piece of information through him.
"Yeah, I k-know, he even o-offered t-to t-teach me," he would tell her with a soft smile, hoping that this might give the message across that he indeed was more or less acquainted with Rafael. He had yet to find out what her deal with Rafael was and he wondered if maybe she liked him. But it made no sense to talk to a stranger about such things so he quickly scratched that idea again. He would remain clueless about @Anastasia Beckett's intentions, not that he was curious enough to ask about them anyway. "Maybe I w-will b-be able t-to fly s-soon, I can't wait t-to see the n-next official game e-either, I heard it's gonna b-be a b-big o-one!"

Coffee And Conversation

@Alan VanesAna wanted to face palm. Alan looked very confused with what she was saying, and seemed somewhat uncomfortable. Sure, she had had far more coffee that day than was probably healthy and was talking more quickly than normal humans did, but honestly, Alan wasn't making this easy. Still, if Rafa had told him about being the captain of the Quidditch team, she supposed that was better than her telling him in her current, admittedly overcaffeinated state.
Still, she could work with this. "Oh, well, you should definitely take him up on it. He's marvelous at flying," she said, taking another sip of coffee. "Rafa's just great to hang out with overall." Ugh, why was this so much harder than just flirting for herself? Usually, she'd bat her eyes, toss her hair, smile just right, and the boy she was talking too would be completely committed to whatever conversation they were having. For obvious reasons, that wouldn't work here. Maybe she could snag some polyjuice potion, pretend to be Rafa, and try it. Somehow, she didn't think Alan would buy Rafa tossing his hair and batting his eyes the way Ana did. Still, it wasn't a terrible plan, and Ana mentally shelved it for later if Rafa was making a mess of things and needed more of her expert help.
"He's a good friend. He's helpful, and he cares about the things you care about. He's single too, you know," Ana informed him. It was a bit more heavy handed than she would do for herself, but Alan was being rather dense, so she was going to need to pile it on a bit. She also wasn't being fully truthful. "Helpful" didn't even make the top twenty words she'd chose to describe her friend. Still, Alan was being oblivious, so she had to step it up.

Coffee And Conversation
He would listen to her ramble on about Rafael and occasionally nodded whenever it seemed appropriate to let her know that he was indeed still listening. He had gone back to eating bits of food which was another reason he was not directly answering her words. However one phrase struck, causing him to momentarily choke on some food as blood shot into his cheeks as he wheezed. Quickly he would grab the mug with pumpkin juice and drink a few big gulps of it before staring at the girl in from of him in disbelief.
"He's single too, you know"
Why would she even tell him that? Alan stared at her in shock and horror as he forced himself to calm down and think clearly. "Excuse me, wh-what?", he croaked out as he lowered the fork and neatly placed it beside his nearly empty plate. Well he definitely could not continue eating now, not after hearing such random news. "Wh-What has th-that t-to do with anything?", he inquired confused and perhaps a little demanding, yet not in a rude and merely bedazzled or befuddled way. How was he supposed to take such news? Was this what this conversation was about? No, Alan did not even realize what exactly this conversation was about, as it mostly confused him more the further it progressed and Alan had all forgotten how to handle this situation. The most important question staid the same... why would she disclose such personal information about the captain? About Rafael?

Coffee And Conversation

@Alan VanesAna choked on her sip of coffee at Alan's reaction. She wasn't sure what she had been expecting or hoping for, but it certainly was not that. She coughed for a moment before taking another swallow to clear her windpipe. "I just thought it was information that you might find interesting," Ana said. She realized a potential flaw to her brilliant plan. She hadn't mentioned Rafa liked boys. That could be a problem, considering how dense Alan was. What was up with third year Gryffindor boys and their complete cluelessness about obvious romantic matters? Between Alan and Scott, she almost wondered if there was something about being a third year Gryffindor boy that just made you utterly oblivious to romantic cues. "Yeah, he and his boyfriend broke up a bit ago. Rafa's over it now, though."
She wanted to smack herself. That was more personal than she'd intended and probably didn't help Rafa one bit. Mentioning ex date mates was always a bad idea and talking about him and his boyfriend breaking up was an even worse idea. Still, with as clueless as Alan was about her intentions, she wasn't sure if she could have been any subtler and still gotten her point across.
Clearing her throat and sipping her coffee causally as if Rafa was definitely not going to want to murder her for this later, she tried to think of something, anything really to change the topic. "He sings too, you know, Rafa does," Ana said earnestly. He did sing, right? She remembered the two of them discussing music once, but in her slight panic, couldn't think of exactly what Rafa had said. She hoped he sang.

Coffee And Conversation
"I-Interesting?" he would dig deeper, curiosity now apparent in the way he leaned forward ever so slightly and straightened his back so that he could listen to the continuation of her thought process. His head was slightly tilted to the side giving him a bit of a puppy appearance as he waiting on her to broaden her explanation as to why Alan would need the information. Why would she think that he would see this as interesting information, he wondered silently as he sighed quietly.
She went on to tell him about Rafael's past relationship and his eyes widened slightly at the fact that she just disclosed personal information of this degree. He still had yet to find out what her purpose was by telling him all this, but it indeed made him wonder as to why they had broken up and who that someone Rafael had been dating was. Did he know them? Perhaps. "A-Are you a-allowed t-to t-tell me all th-this?" He finally asked the question that had been bothering him for a while now.
"Yeah?", he asked finally when she mentioned that Rafa sang. He had known that the Gryffindor captain played the piano quite well but he did not actually know about the singing. This was interesting to know for sure! "D-Did you h-hear him s-sing b-before?", he wondered in question as he once again glanced at the girl.
