Selim ate breakfast in the great hall with an expressionless face. Idly, he munched on sushi, gazing down at the tome his nii-san got him, and scribbling down notes with a quill. Owls were beginning to drop in, letting newspapers fall on student's heads or delivering mail with a bit more of a careful touch.
Selim glanced up, watching this, until chaos broke out.
One student, he didn't bother looking at the face of them, decided to retaliate against an owl who dropped a paper on his head, shooting up some spell that he couldn't bother trying to identify. This sent the owls into a flurry, and they began to fall into chaos.
Two owls, one that Selim recognized as his clan's owl, collided mid-air in an explosion of feathers above his head, the letter on his owl's leg came loose, getting knocked around by other panicking owls until he lost track of where it landed.
Another letter floated down to the ground beside him, picking it up, Selim read it briefly, it's contents being largely useless aside from the name it was addressed to, Dmitri Jones. All it was was a letter of apology and assurance from some useless magazine, THYME.
The clan owl, Kaibun, then landed before him sloppily, a few feathers bent, and preened its feathers, hooting, disgruntled. Selim frowned as he, indeed, saw no letter with the bird.
This was bad, letters from his clan often held confidential information, a few needed to even be unlocked with his blood to be read. The ones that were less important could, theoretically, be opened by anyone.
This one wasn't as confidential, this he knew because the last letter he got directly from otou-sama himself was speaking about how that after he discussed things with the council, he would send a letter detailing when his initiation would take place over the summer, and what may be included in said initiation.
Selim only hoped that the letter was coded properly, even if not many of his peers spoke Japanese, there were always translation spells or books.
Dropping what he was doing, Selim stored away his tome and stood up, trying to locate where his letter had fallen.
After a good while of searching though, the single that school was starting rang out, and Selim frowned. He'd have to hope for the best, seeing as how he needed to head to the next class.
If Kami willed it, that letter wouldn't be opened, and if it was, it wouldn't be translated.
Luckily, his letters were addressed to him using his public name, not his true one.
He'd have to search for it later.
Grabbing his satchel, Selim headed out of the Great Hall, departing to his next, and favorite class.
Potions.
