[font=Segoe Print]It was funny, how quickly the mood of a day could change.

Fate was certainly messy, that was no secret – at least, as much was evident in the many mishaps and dangers that befell the students of Hogwarts on a daily basis. It was strange, fickle, in the way that she struck her icy tendrils on the best of situations, dragging the happiest of instances to the depths of her sultry pits, dooming a lively day to the worst sort of destinies imaginable. Such thoughts had no business plaguing the minds of the youth, yet here they were, swarming the young Captain’s train of thought as he trod throughout the manifold halls of Hogwarts, having just been released from the confines of his latest class. How was it, that misfortune befell the school in such a way? Were they cursed? Plagued by the memories of Voldermort and all that his presence had once entailed? Would they ever know? Would such dizzying questions ever be answered?

It was no secret that a lot had been going on as of late – there were rumors of a man within the walls of the castle, a murder, the same man who had ended Umbridge’s life in the office of the Headmaster. Dizzying love letters, mentions of hags. A wand, belonging to Potter, in the possession of some student or other. Cursed Slytherins, secrets lurking just beyond every corner – and, with each impending moment, tick of the clock, snap of a book turned shut, the child’s anticipation would only continue to grow, suspicion spreading like an infection through his mind and choking out rational thought with its absurd propaganda. There was far too much going on, some sort of dangerous web that fate was spinning, a beautiful, dangerous mess that the young boy both feared and regarded with the most acute curiosity… what did it all mean?

Thankfully, today would be a welcome break from such deafening thoughts. He was to meet a good friend of his in his lunch hour, in the hopes of catching up with each other and reviewing some Quidditch Strategy come their next practice. It was the off-season, and thankfully so, for Gryffindor had taken quite the beating over the last few weeks. Granted, everyone had played quite admirably – it came with much pride and joy to the Captain, to be able to state that his house had won the last game against Slytherin. Their first game all season. While one win may not have been a staggering triumph for another house, it was no secret that the Lions had been struggling all season, due to multiple roster changes, including that of the former Captain Kyle DeRook. It was certainly encouraging, however, knowing that the Lion House was back in the game – such a win would be the first of many, he’d long since decided. He would make sure of it.

Now, the boy sat, awaiting the arrival of his friend quietly. The Great Hall was tranquil, the tables bare, save for a few studious students specking the seats every here and there, getting in some lunchtime studying in before their next classes. A perfect place to chat, eat a little, perhaps even crack a book and kill some answers together. His eyes flickered up from the table, his lip bit in thought as he quietly waited, pondering his existence and all it entailed. Where was Wren?

Wren was hyped up.

Her and Rafa, the two most unlikely best friends, were going to sit down together at lunch and catch up. Both had been so busy lately that they had not gotten time to talk least of all have a meal together. Wren had skipped lunch too many times to count because she was either studying or trying to get caught up on her homework and the times, she had been there Rafael had not. Though he probably had bee she just had not seen him. He wasn’t the type to pass up a meal if it meant having lunch with a friend.

She walked into the great hall and noticed there weren't many people there. She had assumed the great hall would have been packed with students, but she was pleasantly surprised to find that there were not that many people here. She and Rafa could converse quietly together. She walked over and sat down beside him.

“Man, we haven’t seen or talked to each other in, God knows how long. I’ve missed being around you. Remember that charms class I think, where I fainted? Man, that was embarrassing but frankly kind of funny. From that, most of the first years know I have Ophidiophobia. Big word isn’t it?”

She turned to her plate to get her food. Today, it was spaghetti and root beer. She was happy.

“What food are you getting?”
she asked Rafa, curious to know if it was Mexican or, more specifically, Argentinian.

Anastasia was going to get herself killed. It was inevitable. She had resigned herself to it. The sad part was it probably wouldn't even be from one of her more interesting antics like leaping off the owlery, it would probably be from something like accidentally starving to death or having a heart attack because she kept substituting meals with large cups of coffee. As much as she was resigned to that reality, she would ideally prefer that her inevitable death waited until after exams. She really didn't have time to die before then between all of her studying and other activities. That was the main reason she had actually made time for lunch on that particular day. It was also partially because she was currently out of coffee and needed a refill, but that was an entirely separate matter.

She was rather proud that, other than the enormous bags under her eyes, nobody would be able to guess that she was hardly sleeping. She'd tried to cover those up with concealer but hadn't been very successful since the makeup shades that matched her fair complexion were far too light to cover something that dark. She didn't care much though since most everyone else looked tired at this point in the school year.

A small yawn escaped her mouth as she entered the Great Hall. She was definitely going to need to eat something in addition to refilling her coffee. It was surprisingly empty for the time of day. She supposed most of the other students were on the Ana plan or were running late for lunch. She didn't much care, since she was going to get her coffee, stuff some food in her face, and go back to her studying. She wasn't only not seeking company, she was actively avoiding it. In fact, she rather thought she would hex anyone who attempted to speak to her.

She immediately changed her mind when she saw Rafa at the Gryffindor table. She quite enjoyed his company and supposed she could spare a few minutes for him. Grinning widely, she sat down across from him. "Rafa! Lovely to see you!" she said, uncharacteristically brightly. Glancing at the other girl, she recognized her as a first-year Gryffindor but didn't think she actually knew her name or anything. Still, if she and Rafa were friends, she probably wasn't the Devil Incarnate. "I'm Anastasia, by the way."

She took a sip of her coffee, wincing a bit as she burnt her tongue. That was unfortunate, but who needed taste buds? Caffeine was far more important to Ana than actually being able to taste her food. At this particular point in time, anyway.

I need to stop procrastinating about the classes I should take first, Cassie thought. They just came out from their dorm room and the sound that their stomach made were alarming enough. Soon their feet take them to the Great Hall. Usually at this time, the Hall should be at least half of the students are here, but then again maybe the other students have other priorities to attend to. Whether is their studying session or anything that could keep them away from this hour.

As the table goes, some seated in their respective houses some mixed it up. Cassie being the bold person, approached a small group that seated not far from the door. Cassie recognise three of them but Cassie barely know them. Maybe this is the moment to get to know others than my own house, Cassie stated. Cassie remembered they saw them when Cassie partook a game in the ground.

"Hey, are you three from the game?"Cassie asked. Cassie remembered one of the girls was on their team. Cassie almost lost their cool when seeing a girl that identical like the one they had arguments with earlier this year. The even itself occurred in the train. Cassie didn't know much about the three Gryffindor students but they just bored having friends or maybe acquaintances from their own house.

"Name Phoenix Cassandra, goes by Cassie"Cassie told the other three. "Just don't start call me that around, the Phoenix part I mean"Cassie added. "So, what's for lunch?"Cassie asks the other three as they seated near the brown hair Hispanic looking girl and throwing an awkward smile. Cassie still learning to be more open up to others. Cassie can tell the trio already did know each other for a long time and here they are disturbing that dynamic.

Wren had been quietly eating her food after bombarding Rafael with questions when a girl she recognized as a second-year Gryffindor, came up to the table, greeted Rafa, and introduced herself as Anastasia. To be polite, Wren answered back with her name.

“Hello, Anastasia! I’m Wren. Can I call you Ana? I know that this is a bit forward, but I like to be on friendly terms with people.”
Wren smiled at Ana. She evidently was pretty friendly with Rafa, seeing as she sat down and said “Rafa, lovely to see you!” with a big grin on her face. Wren thought she had seen her at the Tug o’ war game, but they sadly were on opposing teams, so she had not really gotten to talk to her.

Once Ana had sat down, another girl came over to the table. The other girl introduced herself as Cassandra. Rafa will chatter with her I hope Wren thought, I would like to get to know Ana a bit

She turned to Ana and caught her wincing. The wince was so small but yet, held so much pain in it. The coffee she had been drinking had obviously been too hot.

“Are you okay, dear Ana? That coffee looked a bit too hot. I hope you don’t burn any taste-buds off. You’ll need them if you have any desire to taste delicious food.”

It had been a relatively peaceful morning. Amra had Charms, History of Magic, and study hall where she got to catch up on her work. Sadly though, Amara had yet to make many friends or even acquaintances here at Hogwarts. She knows that in the past decade or so there have been more mixed-house friendships than in the past and Amara hoped that since none of the Slytherins had taken to her yet, that others would. After the young serpent walked out of the girls' lavatory to re-do makeup and check her hair, Amara walked into the great hall for lunch.

She glanced around, hoping to find a relatively empty table but she had no luck. Instead, Amara walked up to a table with a few other first years at it. She recognized a few of them, Rafa the popular Griffendore quidditch captain, another first-year Slytherin, and a girl she presumes to be Rafa's girlfriend. Amara takes one last step towards them and licks her lips, "Do you have space for one more?" Amara asks, hoping that they will allow her to sit so she does not have to endure to the embarrassment of being told no, "I can be quiet, you won't even notice I am here" she says a bit louder after a few moments of them continuing to chat.

Cassie's question to the group left unanswered. Cassie being themself, did not think much about it. They attentively listen to the conversation between Wren and Ana. From the way Ana take a sipped of her coffee, it seems the black liquid and her are best friend. Cassie once or twice know and drink some coffee when their mother was not around and they prefer with a little bit milk and sugar over the original taste.

When Cassie still paid attention to the other girls conversation, there is a another voice that come over to where Rafa, Wren, Anastasia and themself seated. Cassie turn their head and look at the other girl. Wearing the same green and silver color, it seems the girl is from the same house as them but unfortunately Cassie never saw the girl around.

"I suppose we could. I do not know about the others but you can seat with us"Cassie told the girl as Cassie pointed the empty space right in front of them. The girl then saying something about being quiet and the occupants of the table would not even notice. Cassie eyebrows knitted with that statement.

"I do not think we ever met before. I'm Cassandra, you can call me Cassie"Cassie stated to the other girl and hold out their hand for the other girl to shake on it.

[font=Segoe Print]“Man, we haven’t seen or talked to each other in, God knows how long.”

A smile snaked its way onto the face of the Gryffindor Captain, his eyes sparkling in recognition as he contemplated the girl’s words carefully, lips slightly pursed in a borderline mischievous manner. It was true, many a day had passed since Wren and he had truly gotten to catch up. However, that wasn’t to say that they weren’t the friends they had been during the Sorting Ceremony, in the Great Hall all those many months ago. The two had grown exponentially close, if not through Quidditch, then through all the many hardships they’d endured together, from conquering the competition to the snake in the Charms room. The latter had been particularly challenging to their relationship, but no matter. After all, they were certainly making up for lost time.

His friend, surprise surprise, had wasted no time in making herself comfortable – it was that carefree spirit, that the boy had grown to love. “Oph – I’m not going to try to say that,” he told the girl, almost wryly as he rested his chin thoughtfully upon his palm, considering her inquiry. Hrmm, what would he eat today? Play it safe with some chicken? Go risky, try something new? Perhaps he’d make a sacrifice, for old time’s sake. “Might try that sushi again.” The smile was sneaking onto his face, brightening up his livelihood little by little. “Could use your help, finding the right kind. You mind, not trying to kill me this time around?” He wiggled his eyebrows, mischief rolling off his figure in waves. She would know exactly what he was talking about.

However, before the girl would get even a moment to answer, another lovely face made itself known to the pair – specifically, that of Ana Beckett, Rafael’s platonic soulmate. The boy’s eyes seemed to light up, and he leaned forward, mischief quickly replaced with the need to go hug his fellow Gryffindor. “Ana!” he settled for instead. “It’s quite lovely, seeing you! How’ve you been, mate? Set anything on fire today?” To the casual observer, such a statement might seem to be a joke, as was intended from the beginning. However, Ana would know better. After all, she did have a nasty habit of being rather trigger happy with her incendioes. Something the boy found quite interesting, as well as pleasurable about the lovely girl. There certainly was a reason he’d felt drawn to her during that SWAG Game – the only plausible answer for such feelings, would have to be chalked up to the universe’s steady hand. What else would fit the bill?

"Hey, are you three from the game?"

Wow, it seemed as if their merry group were only growing. He looked around for a moment, attempting to locate the source of the noise – slas, he found a rather familiar Slytherin girl, one of which he’d met in Alan’s Tug of War Game. How funny, that they found so many familiar faces pertaining to that event. Again, fate must have been in play. However, rather than curse the circumstances, he chose to make due with the oddly graceful turn of events, extending a hand outwards for the girl to shake. “That would be us, yeah,” he replied cordially. “It’s really nice to meet you, Cassie. I’m Rafael, but most people just call me Rafa. Or ‘Bird... strangely enough.” It was then, that he could identify the familiarity in her vocals. “Si puedo preguntar…” he began tentatively, the words lilting perfectly off his tongue, “¿eres hispana como yo?” It was, by all means, an honest question, a mere attempt to connect better with his new acquaintance.

It was about that time, that another person would show up, nearly completing the small mass of people "Do you have space for one more?"

The boy’s eyes skimmed the girl carefully, an almost quizzical look upon his face as a small smile tugged at his lips. She was far from familiar, although there was something about her face that struck a likeness within the mind of the Gryffindor. Where had he seen her? Perhaps he would never know. “By all mean,” he nodded towards the table, looking down at a seat nearby, “make yourself comfortable.” Then, extending his hand once more, “I’m Rafael, it’s nice to meet you.”

Formalities aside, he was hungry. Looking over at Wren, he raised an eyebrow, small smile spreading over his lips. “So, Itamae,” he said wryly, wiggling his eyebrows, “what is it that you recommend today?”

OOC • Okay, for starters. To Cassie – As Rafael isn’t currently aware of Cassie’s identification sexually, he will proceed to call her as she/her until he finds out otherwise, as anything else would be considered metagaming. Hope this is okay!

Ana's tastebuds were nonexistent, but she refused to pause her caffeination or worse, look like she couldn't handle a scalding cup of coffee. Sure, there wasn't a reason for her not to wait, but she had committed to this now, and she couldn't back down. Still, she was rather grateful when they were joined by another student. She vaguely recognized her as a first-year, although she couldn't place where she might have known that from. Not that she really cared. As a rule, she ignored first years with a few exceptions such as Rafa and now possibly Wren. Still, she was caffeinated and in a decent mood, so she'd give this pathetic baby a chance. "Oh, shush, Rafa, a teacher will hear you," she laughed at her friend's inquiry about setting things on fire. She had only actually done it a handful of times, but it was far more than your average person had, and it had become something of a running joke to her. Winking at her friend, she added,"And not yet, but it's only lunchtime."

She arched an unimpressed eyebrow when the girl began talking about the game and then moved to rambling about how her name was Phoenix but they oughtn't to call her that. First off, Phoenix was far more cool-sounding than Cassie, in Ana's opinion, and second, why tell people a name that you didn't want to be called? Why not just tell people that your name was what you wanted to be called and leave it at that? Ana generally went by Ana or Anastasia, so that was she introduced herself as. Since she didn't want to be called by one of her many middle names, she just didn't mention them when introducing herself. "Well, I suppose it's a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Phoenix Cassandra," Ana said, smiling tightly. Another thing, who named someone something like that? Not that Ana, with her 5 middle names could exactly judge, but she still wondered why a parent would do that.

She rolled her eyes slightly when the girl asked what was for lunch. It was nearly the end of the year and she didn't understand how meals worked at Hogwarts. Despite her initial decisions to give the first year something of a chance, she was barely resisting the urge to make a snarky comment or two to get the girl to leave.

Turning back to Wren, she smiled. "Absolutely, Wren," she said. "And really, coffee is far more important than taste buds, love. I'm relatively certain they grow back, whereas coffee isn't half as good if you don't drink it hot."

At that moment, they were joined by another girl and Ana rolled her eyes slightly again. Why on earth would someone want to sit with a bunch of strangers if they weren't even going to attempt to interact with them? Anastasia had many skills, but being able to have people be unaware of her presence was certainly not one of them. It wasn't one she wished to have either.

Rafa seemed to be a tad more friendly than Ana was feeling, so she wouldn't commence bullying either of the newcomers just yet. She was definitely remembering why she generally ignored first years though.

OOC - Cassie and Amara, I'm sorry that Ana is such a judgmental little turd! Also, Cassie, she doesn't IC know anything about Cassie's pronouns, so she's calling them a her at the moment, but she'll totally respect that one she knows.
