The Sorting ceremony 2017-2018
Remy could sense all the nervousness around him. He, on the other hand, was more relaxed than the rest. You see, he was not as familiar with this whole house system. Neither of his parents had attended Hogwarts, so Remy viewed this as a learning experience. Of course, he had been curious enough to research a bit before being forced in here. He had come to a conclusion, that no matter what house he would be sorted in, he would not let that define himself.
He looked in awe as the hat that he had not paid attention to that much earlier, started spontaneously singing! Remy started bopping his head to the rhythm of this poetic sequence, tapping his foot as he kept looking. Looking and looking, sucking every detail of this building inside himself.
'Impressive architecture', he thought as he shrugged to himself. His hazel glimmering eyes were filled with curiosity and youthful vigor as he kept on staring at every corner.
Remy heard names being announced, not in an alphabetic order as he had expected it to be. Scratching the back of his neck, he noticed that he did start to get a bit nervous. The other students had rubbed it on him! Now he was infected with this restlessness-inducing sickness too. He watched the sorting hat being placed on kids' heads before yelling the name of the house. These were always followed by loud roars, cheering and clapping. This did seem to be a bigger deal than Remy had believed it would be.
And then came the time when his name was announced. At first, he stood there like a dumb pile of rocks, staring at the hat with large frog eyes. After snapping out of his trance, he walked clumsily towards the talking, rather old-fashioned hat. Placing himself on the bench, Remy could feel his heart loudly beating. He felt his mouth get dry, but he was too afraid to clear his throat. As if the hat would suddenly devour him if he did so.
It all went pitch black in a few seconds. At first, Remy panicked, before realizing that it was just the hat. It was way too big of a size for him. Whoever owned this previously surely had a large head.
Swinging his legs back and forth enthusiastically, the curious little boy waited for the result. He'd be happy with anything, really. He just wanted to see what was going on again...
"Ah, I see. Much potential, much much potential," the hat started, receiving a gulp from Remy as an answer.
"You crave success, you're not afraid of competing. You are a faithful friend, not afraid of protecting what is important to you. I think I know where to put you..."
Remy closed his eyes, waiting for his judgment. He hadn't done anything wrong, but it felt like he had. He could feel everyone's eyes burning into him. He was impatient to hear what the hat had decided. Even if this whole scene lasted for maybe 20 seconds, it felt like an eternity. Eventually, he was sorted like the rest of this batch.
"Slytherin!" it roared. Remy could hear loud cheers and whistle. The hat was lifted from his head and he blinked a few times, trying to get his eyes adjusted to the light again. The boy was grinning once he saw one of the tables welcoming him with their gestures. The rest of the tables just clapped politely, as he waltzed comically towards his new family.

The Sorting ceremony 2017-2018
The air was almost electric as snippets of nervous conversation could be heard ad the new students lined up at a massive wooden double door. Augustus stood tall and proud, a half smirk seemed perpetually etched on his face. He did quite enjoy the boat ride and the horseless carriage, he wondered how they sort students would there be a test? He could hear others wondering aloud what house he would be sorted in, Augustus had no doubt in his mind that he will continue his family legacy and join them in Slytherin. Besides where else would he find fellow dark arts enthusiasts. Augustus found himself at great ease surrounded in a crowd of people, he always was a people person and by people person he knew how to manipulate others with natural ease.
The enormous double doors finally swung open after an extremely warm greeting from the headmaster to allow the new students into a massive breathtaking hall with the open sky overhead. The beautifully dotted night sky glitter with stars and the bright luminescent full moon paled to the elegance of the Great Hall. Augustus scanned the massive hall from the elegant chandelier to the the students' heads turned towards the new arrivals, to the raised dais with the staff table centered at the far end of the hall. His eyes and mind already scanning and analyzing every minute detail that he could use later.
Augustus's mind was rushing as an old, ragged hat song a song about the different houses highlighting the traits required, when it came to Slytherin Augustus's smirk turned into a full grin he knew where he belonged. Hufflepuff was a joke to him, his father was an alumni from that house. Gryffindor are far too goody goody for his taste, Ravenclaw was not a bad backup plan, undesirable as it was. During the last few days of his holiday and on the Hogwarts express he had managed to quickly go through all his books and decided that Defence Against the Dark Arts and Transfiguration and seemed like the most interesting whilst Astronomy and Herbology seemed to be the most boring. Thus he read deeper into both books throughout the train ride and during the carriage.
Once the sorting hat finished belting its tune, names began to get called and eventually Augustus was called. Augustus strutted down the alley between the Hufflepuff and Gryffindor tables with a look of utter contempt towards both houses. He sat on the stool and as soon as the hat was lowered it spoke to him, he was so thin that the hat easily fell over his eyes shrouding him in darkness, one could only see his thin chin and his shoulder length, raven black hair. "Slytherin eh...? There could not be a more fitting match, you are manipulative and cunning beyond measure, I also sense great aggression and viciousness. However your insatiable lust for knowledge would would make you a tremendous scholar in Ravenclaw. Alas you are going to................. SLYTHERIN!"
Augustus was pleased with himself, he placed the hat on the stool and very haughtily made his way down to the Slytherin table, each step he took exuded with pride, his lips ever smirking. Finally upon reaching the Slytherin table he plopped down and his smirk turned into a smile as the gregarious boy introduced himself to his fellow Slytherins. After making the necessary facade, he reached into his bag and returned to the Transfiguration book. He could not wait for his classes, Augustus wsd going to dive into his studies and he vowed to himself that he will excel at the classes he enjoyed.

Henry'd stood on his tiptoes to try and see over the heads of those around him, he was quite short but incredibly curious as to what exactly was singing when he couldn't see anyone. Pushing some of his blonde fringe out of his eyes, Henry finally gave up and settled back down onto his flat feet, he'd find out soon enough.
Reed, he thought, why did my last name have to be Reed? It was so low down on the alphabet! It felt like forever before the crowd of first years started to disperse and by that point, Henry had managed to suss out which house was which. Judging by the reaction of the other houses, he assumed the green one, Slyth-something, wasn't a good one so he hoped he wouldn't be put in that one. Plus, they all looked scary. The red one, Gryffindoor?, looked like fun but the hat (and how surprised Henry had been when he found out what was talking! He couldn't wait to write to his family to tell them.) had said it was for the brave, and Henry believed he wasn't brave in the slightest. The blue one, that's mascot was some sort of bird, was daunting for him as whilst Henry was smart, he didn't think he was that smart. It'd have to be the yellow house, he thought. It looked very friendly and all good things were said about it.
Huffandpuff in his mind, he felt a bit more prepared when his name was finally called. Sitting on the stool and watching as the room went dark as the weird singing hat was placed on his head, Henry pleaded for the hat to put him in the right place.
'Please do the yellow one, I don't fit in the others!' kept going through his mind, stopping only when the hat began to reply.
'I respect your wishes, Henry, but in your mind all I see is facts, figures and love of knowledge! Hufflepuff could dampen your potential..Gryffindor don't value the intelligence as much and Slytherin, well, you wouldn't survive a week there. So..it has to be...RAVENCLAW!'
Henry stumbled off the chair, moving to the now cheering house as he felt his face drain of colour- what had he gotten himself into?

The Sorting ceremony 2017-2018
Phoebe McCrary sat silently in her seat as she listened in on everyone else's conversations. Her eyes, however, were fixed on only one thing: the sorting hat. The sorting hat was going to determine where she would be for her full seven years at Hogwarts. The sorting hat would determine who she would be surrounded by.
Upon hearing her name being called, she quietly stood and made her way to the sorting hat, attempting not to trip on the impossibly lengthy robe she adorned. In the back of her mind, she wondered if the person who gave her the robe took incorrect measurements. Taking a seat, she began to flush at the sight of everyone's eyes. Tightening her grip slightly on the arms of the chair, she felt her heartbeat escalate as the hat was placed on her head.
Despite her embarrassment and shame, she kept her head high. All of these years of isolation from people her age would not allow her to make a bad first impression. Closing her eyes and taking a breath to calm her nerves, she opened her eyes as she heard the name of her house being belted out from the ornament on her head: Slytherin.
Slytherin?
She quickly stood up, eyes wide and lips parted slightly in surprise as the other students cheered for her. Slytherin in particular seemed to be the most obnoxiously noisy.
Quickly making her way to the Slytherin table, she lowered her gaze to the floor as she tried much harder than before to not trip. Taking a seat furthest away from her peers, she messed with her hands nervously, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. She was not bitter or scared because of her house placement, merely surprised since she knew of the Slytherin's reputation.
She was silent for the rest of the evening.

The Sorting ceremony 2017-2018
Walking into the castle was surreal, even more surreal than it was arriving in the boats and overlooking the massive location. She had gotten a boat with a boy she had met on the train, Freyr he had said his name was. He was quite, not much for conversation but what they had talked about was light and fun and Eliana had really enjoyed it.
She was just like all the other first years, looking around in awe as they walked through the main hall. She had seen pictures in various books she had read about the castle, but seeing it first hand was something that could not be explained via description or even by picture. You had to see it for yourself to fully experience it.
Nerves was obvious among herself and the other students that were there for the first time. Being greeted at the front and being told that they were about to start the sorting ceremony only made the butterflies in her stomach grow. There was no real reason to be nervous, the sorting hat would put her where she needed to be, the best house to help her achieve her goals in life.
Walking in, all eyes were on them which made the nerves even worse. She stayed close to Freyr, even though she had just met him she felt comfortable around him, or at least comfortable enough that being near him seemed to calm her down, well enough to walk forward.
Watching as each person's name was called, not seeming to be in any kind of order, at least not an order than Eliana could figure out, so when her name was called she was not ready at all. Giving a quick nervous glance towards Freyr before walking up and sitting down in the stool.
When the sorting hat was placed on her head she couldn't focus on anyone else, it was as if there was no one else in the room as she waited. When it called out Slytherin she was a little down, having hoped to be placed in Ravenclaw like her mother had, but still had a smile on her face as she walked over to the table that had the green and black clothed students.
Waiting for Freyr's name to be called, to see if she would get lucky and have her only friend, so far, be placed in the same house as her as she filled her plate modestly with food.

The Sorting ceremony 2017-2018
The entire thing wasn't what he was expecting to be perfectly honest. The train ride and the boat ride across the lake, the magnitude of the school castle and how many people arrived with him. Everyone looking upon the school in awe and wonder, to imagine what life will be like for them for the next seven years. Whatever sort of things they might all get up to throughout the years. Look at him, already thinking of the future when he hasn't even taken his first step towards anything yet. What a special boy Freyr Burke is, wanting to find that perfect spot to train.
Walking into the school, he walked beside a girl he had met on the train and taken the same boat across the black lake with. She had introduced herself as Eliana, and though he was his normal quiet self, they had a very entertaining conversation. He felt at ease and completely comfortable. Like they could do a conversation about anything and it would be perfect. Just the best kind of introduction one would ever hope for once all things are considered. At least he can say that he started the school year with a friend, he really didn't want to think about what it would be like to have to do that without anyone.
Once they were all lined up, the first years gathered at the base of the stairs, a small stool sat in the middle with an old worn hat situated atop the stool. Names were called, each moving towards the stool and taking their seat, to which the hat would be placed on their heads. The hat would come to life, the magic quite apparent though Freyr has no idea how any of it works and is quite confused by it. But he stayed in his stoic self as he watched student after student file off towards their new homes for the next couple of years.
Each of the table representing a house, their colours on banners overhead and on the robes of the students already there. Standing beside Eliana, he watched as more students went up and acquired their house from the hat, the sorting hat as the professor had referred to it as. And each person would come and have it placed upon them for their sorting. He watched as Eliana went up, a small smile and nod towards her as she walked up the steps towards the stool. Taking her seat and being called for her own house, Slytherin.
Like everyone else, he clapped his hands as she walked away. Now for him to await his own turn, as his blue eyes scanned the table over the professors, wondering what each one taught and who they were as people. Though his mind started to wonder just where about in the castle would be the best place to start training, to keep himself strong and in shape. He needed to not be taken down by any bullies. And if he remembered the rules, he cannot use magic outside of school. So anything that he learns here wouldn't be usable at home... those bullies would win.
The calling of his name pulled him from his thoughts, as he pulled his hands from his robe pockets, he walked up the steps and towards the stool. His expression stoic as he moved to sit upon the stool. Blue eyes looking over the tables as all eyes fell on him, or at least the ones paying attention and not talking to their friends. The hat placed upon his head, rough in places and felt odd. An old hat if there ever was one. The voice started to speak, its voice croaking and has a smoky aspect to it.
Freyr listened as the voice spoke, speaking about the aspects of the four houses and how well he would do in certain ones. Mostly his dedication and loyalty in Hufflepuff, but also his bravery and courage in Gryffindor. In the end, however, he called out a single word. Echoing throughout the hall as Gryffindor was called from the hat, and the cheering of the table erupted. A bit of Freyr is a saddened that he isn't with Eliana, but he looks forward to having the lion as his home. To be among the brave and courageous people, and maybe someone who wants to spar?
Removing the hat, he stood from the stool and moved his way down towards the table flying the Gryffindor banner overhead. A small smile across his face as he nodded and shook hands with his housemates before taking his seat, crossing his arms and leaning against the table as his eyes lifted and looked over the Slytherin table, looking for a certain brunette with blue eyes as well. Perhaps he can find her tomorrow and speak more there? After class, if he can ever focus. Would he be able to? Y'know, the library should have a lot of interesting books. Whichever comes first really.

The Sorting ceremony 2017-2018
Even though her father had told her all about the wonders of Hogwarts, even though she had seen tons of pictures from the Daily Prophet, never once had Blaire imagined it would be this spectacular. It was so... so huge! It was one amazement after another. First the train ride across a wide expanse of terrain she had never once seen before, then the boat ride over the Black Lake... Looking up at the magnificent, the towers of the castle reaching high into the sky. In a way it was intimidating, in another it was exciting. Thrilling.
Now she waited inside of the Great Hall, where students were being called up one at a time to sit on a stool while a hat - the Sorting Hat as she had already known - decided what House each individual would be placed in. She was unsure of what House she would want to be in. She had imagined it plenty of times before. She didn't expect to be a Gryffindor, her shyness probably prevented that much. The other Houses though... Her father had been a Hufflepuff.
Finally, she heard her name called and with a startling realization that suddenly everybody was staring at her, she timidly made her way forward, climbing the steps one at a time until she reached the stool and sat down. Then she felt the hat placed on her head and she stiffened. This was it. Any moment now she would hear a House called out. See a table of her future Housemates clapping perhaps.
The hat was mumbling to itself, pondering its decision. She wondered if she was difficult to read. Should she be thinking about something? Her father had instructed her to just patiently wait and it would place her where she belonged but now that it was actually her turn, all that excitement turned into nervousness. What if it couldn't figure out where to place her? Would she be sent home?
She hears the hat make comment about her father's old House. Decides that she's not quite as suited for it as him, perhaps. It ponders Ravenclaw for her desire to learn, but in the end, it comes to one final conclusion despite her doubts: SLYTHERIN! And then she hears an onslaught of excited clapping. How anyone can be excited when they don't know her is beyond her reasoning, but after a moment of surprise, she realizes she's still being stared at.
She hops off the stool and - hands clasped awkwardly in front of her - shuffles her way to the Slytherin table to be greeted with shaking hands, pats on the back, and congratulations. She does her best not to panic in these moments. Never has she been in a crowd of so many people giving her their attention. Even if it will just be brief.

The Sorting ceremony 2017-2018
She heard many weird names called.
"Alex bohassany"
Never in the muggle world was names like that ever heard. But she would hear many weird things while at hogwarts. Finally she heard it her name.
Ms. Lane. Oh how wonderful to see you. I hope we will be seeing more muggle-born like you. Ohh. Brave like a gryffindor. But creative like a ravenclaw. But were to put you. Slytherin is not the house for you but maybe.... HUFFLEPUFF.
Not many cheers from the hufflepuff table but she had a house and she was happy. What a strange and wonderful place. What adventures she would have. Sitting at the table she was listening to all the other people. Last but not least, was the girl she sat with. She thought she would be more of a ravenclaw.
" Oh your father such a........ smart man. He must be expecting for you to go in Ravenclaw or Slytherin. Then it shall be. You are definitely a Slytherin.
Abby heard some people talking. Slytherin isn't bad but you know weird stuff happen to some of those people who are in it. She though how rude it was for them to say such things. How could they. After all people even in Slytherin have feelings.

The Sorting ceremony 2017-2018
Blaise stood in the front, watching student after student getting called to their respective tables. Each table would erupt in cheers as their house name was called. She was starting to get impatient. She just wanted to hear where she would be sitting for the next several years.
Finally, she heard her name.
"Blaise Marlee"
She took a deep breath and boldly made her way to the front. She bit her lip, looking out at the crowd as the Sorting Hat was placed on her head.
Almost instantly, the hat began to speak.
"Oh. Interesting. Your mother was Gryffindor, correct?" the Sorting Hat bellowed out. Blaise nodded slowly. Would she be in Gryffindor and make her mother proud? Or would she don another house's colors?
"But I'm not sure that's where you belong. You are brave and valiant, yes... but you're very ambitious. Willing to do anything to reach your goals..."
She looked out at the crowd, seeing one particular house start grinning. They had heard it all before.
"Yes. I know where you go. This one is easy."
She held her breath, then she heard the magic word.
"SLYTHERIN!" The Sorting Hat yelled.
Blaise grinned and hopped down, making her way to the Slytherin House table. They were cheering and screaming. She felt a few other Slytherins pat her on the back as she sat down to enjoy the rest of the sorting. This was her home. These students were her family. She couldn't have been more excited to experience it.
