The Sorting ceremony 2018-2019
The moment when Griseldis entered the Great Hall, the sight inside was so magical that she almost forgot how to breathe. She looked upward and saw the ceiling above them looked like the night sky dotted with countless shining stars, her grey eyes widen with wonder.
“Wow…” that’s all she could say.
There were four long tables, where the older students of each house were sitting, staring at them with curiosity. It was easy to tell which house they belong due to the four color schemes. Blue is Ravenclaw, the Wise. Yellow is Hufflepuff, the Kind. Green is Slytherin, the Cunning, and red is Gryffindor, the Brave.
Griseldis heard stories about Harry Potter before, the boy who lived was a Gryffindor, he was like a hero, courageous and strong. She admired people like that and hoped to become one herself one day.
Thousands of candles levitating around them, she could feel the warmth from those flames and it reminded Griseldis of her 8th Birthday, the day how she discovered her own magic. She was able to control the fire from the birthday candles and made them float up in thin air like eight tiny lanterns, it was the best moment she would never forget in her whole life.
“Excuse me, can you please keep moving?” A boy’s impatient voice brought Griseldis back to the present, then she realized that she just stood there smiling in her own thoughts.
“Oops! I’m so sorry!!” Griseldis blushed slightly in embarrassment and quickly caught up with the other first years but she ran so fast that she couldn’t control her speed in time and accidentally bumped into the girl’s back in front of her.
“Hey, be careful!”, the girl turned around and glared at the person who almost made her fall, Griseldis could hear giggles from other students at the long tables.
“Sorry…” She apologized softly to the girl.
She had to try to calm herself, placing a hand on her chest and took a deep breath, then walked forward with a bright smile.
I can do this, Griseldis thought to herself.
When the sorting ceremony finally began, many new students before her were sorted by the famous sorting hat into their destined house.
“Griseldis Edelhardt!”
Hearing her name being called, she felt her whole body uncontrollably shaken with excitement. Many eyes were on her when she stepped forward from the line and sat on the four-legged stool, a pointed wizard’s hat was placed gently on her head.
The Sorting Hat suddenly started to speak with a funny voice, “Ah, many years has past and finally a new Edelhardt, eh…I remembered a few Edelhardts, most of them were Slytherins or Ravenclaws, they were quite known to be very ambitious and smart but you…you are a very different one…”
“Me? Different?” Griseldis asked.
“Ah yes…kind and loyal, you certainly have traits that suit for a Hufflepuff, but you’re eager to proof your skills…seem more ambitious like a Slytherin…hmm…however, you have a very strong sense of Justice and a lot of courage…..”
I trust you will let me be in the right House, Mr. Sorting Hat, it seemed to hear Griseldis’s thought and replied with a chuckle, “So much faith in me, I am flattered, now I am very certain which house will suit you the best.”
Then, the Sorting Hat shouted for everyone in the entire hall to hear--
“Gryffindor!”
Griseldis felt as if something inside her soul has been awakened like an inferno and she could even hear the mighty roar from a Lion in her mind.
All the Students from the Gryffindor table stood up to give their newcomer loud welcoming applause.
I am a Gryffindor, Griseldis thought with a prideful grin.

The Sorting ceremony 2018-2019
As he followed the Headmaster with the other new kids, Dan learned one thing when he stepped into the Great Hall. And that is, when people in this school say 'Great Hall', they aren't joking. The size of this hall trumped most grocery stores, let alone halls. Candles simply...floated there. Hung out in the air, not dripping wax on the children, somehow. When he looked up, he thought that the entire all was an open sunroof, before he faintly made out the beams across the ceiling. It seemed that it was a perfect mimic of the outside. The four tables that ran the length of the hall had to have been chopped off whole from a tree, that was the only way he could fathom tables so long could possibly have been made. Dan looked at the different people there. They were all looking at the newcomers. As if they were the most interesting thing in the world. Which, to be fair, Dan fancied himself as rather interesting, but he couldn't imagine why new students would be this fascinating to everyone. New students were a regular thing, right? The older kids were arranged in what Dan assumed to be by house. He was able to make out the ones with green, he was pretty sure there was a snake on their robes. The others, further away from the door, were blue, red, and yellow. His parents had told him nothing about how he would be put into the houses. To be a surprise, they had said. He remembered the conversation that had followed.
Which house should I aim for?
Don't even bother with that son. Aimin' for a particular house is like whippin' it out in a hurricane and tryin' ta piss in one direction.
Sean!
Despite his mother getting onto his dad for using so crude an analogy, it most definitely served to make the boy giggle.
Well, if there was no way to aim for a house, it was well and truly beyond his control. This, however, did nothing to alleviate the nervousness. They said they'd be proud of him regardless of his house, but he still-
Then he saw something that he simply could not believe. A hat -A HAT- Began to sing. He and his mates back home could never have come up with something so utterly ridiculous. But, the hat insisted that it has never been wrong a single time, and had the ability to look into who they REALLY were. What qualities they REALLY had.
Dan had just seen a bloody hat
"HUFFLEPUFF!!!"
The people in the paintings all moved as if they were alive and entirely aware of what was going on around them.
"RAVENCLAW!!!"
Ghosts floated about above the tables. One for each house, he imagined.
"RAVENCLAW!!!"
One of them seemed to have a serious neck wound, which Dan instantly looked away from. No thank you. He wondered if the ghost with the sword had done that.
"GRYFFINDOR!!!"
One of the most marvelous things to Dan was that everyone else here treated all of these wonders like they were everyday life. Dan then realized that they had LIVED here for an entire school year. Therefore, it WAS everyday life. He wondered if he'd ever get used to things to that kind of level here... Well of course he would, all the others did after all-
"Daniel Palmer!"
Dan was so busy looking around and thinking to himself, that when his head snapped back at the sound of his name, he was a bit worried me might get whiplash from it. He did not however, and that was a welcome relief. He walked up and sat on the stool, and gently placed the talking hat on his head.
"Hmmmmm..... A Palmer, eh? I remember your father. A Gryffindor, as I recall. And your mother... a Ravenclaw. Ahhh, you are an interesting one. You possess a good bit of your father's traits, yet I sense an intense desire to learn everything about magic. Doubtless, from your mother."
"Y-yeah...."
"However.... I sense something deeper. Something far stronger than those. And with just the right amount of prodding.... Yes, I know just what to do with you."
Then, in a voice that Dan might'v been prepared for if he had at all been paying attention earlier, one that boomed across the entire hall-
"SLYTHERIN!!!!!!"
The green house with the snakes emblazoned on their robes erupted in cheers and applause, welcoming their new brother. Just before Dan removed the gargantuan hat from his head, he could feel something stirring in him. He'd felt this before, often when playing the video games he loved so much, when he came across a particularly difficult obstacle, be it a boss or a puzzle. Or, when playing online in a competitive match. Though he didn't know it, there was only one thing it could be.
Ruthless cunning.

“ Stallings, Vince! ”
There some sort of special energy that went through her as her name was called. One instant she was relaxed and ready, then suddenly she was unsettled and anxious. She fidgeted with her ring, running her finger along the crevices and scratching at the rust. Attempting to feel oblivious to the amount of eyes set on her, Vince stepped forward and sat at the stool, holding her breath as the hat was lowered onto her head.
My parents were Ravenclaw and Gryffindor. Mum and dad. This was the first thought that came into mind. She figured somehow that people could try to influence the hat if they felt like a certain house was more favorable for them, and Vince was okay with both of those. She wanted to be just like her parents, powerful and intelligent like her mother, strong and determined like father. Sometimes she wasn't too sure if she was even like them but maybe she would be in the future.
The hat began to speak into her ear. “ I see many things in you, child. You have so many qualities, but you hide them behind a wall you refuse to let down...but all for a good reason, I suppose. ” She wondered what he meant. She didn't let people get close enough to know her well, but she wasn't entirely sure why. The only person who really knew was long gone...and was never coming back. Vince felt like friendships were a curse.
I know you put everyone in the right place. You put Mertan in Slytherin—everyone knows he was born a snake. You put Ryne and Hest in Gryffindor, they're both real leaders. You put Esme and Sans in Ravenclaw, because they always know what's right, and then you put Hedji in Hufflepuff because she's Hedji. But where will you put me? Where do I go? I'm too normal...
Vince felt her shoulders sank. She knew this was supposed to be going fast, maybe she confused the Sorting Hat. But then suddenly it said, “ Students of Hogwarts are everything but normal, as is every witch and wizard of this world. Magic is something strange and mysterious even now, we have yet to know of its origins. But you, my child, I sense a deep intelligence in you, something that you aren't yet aware of. Yes, may we put you amongst the wise eagles, for only those of great originality and wisdom may enter this house. ” Vince could almost feel the hat wink at her and couldn't help but grin.
“ RAVENCLAW! ”
Vince stood up slowly and almost clapped for herself, that's how startled she was. She was so happy that she even started to cry, but she looked up and blinked and pretended to get something caught in her eye. Luck was on her side so far, and she was entirely grateful.

Nicolas, waited anxiously as first-year after first-year got sorted, he thought back to his father's stories about Hogwarts and remembered when he recalled his sorting. He remembered his dad had been a Gryffindor, he couldn't help but wish for the same. Gryffindor was the house of the brave his dad had told him that, he didn't feel very brave but he had to be if he wanted to make his father proud he took a deep breath and watched the other first years be sorted
"Ravenclaw!"
"Gryffindor!"
"Slytherin!"
"Ravenclaw!"
Suddenly the task seemed daunting again, what if he didn't get into Gryffindor? What if he got into Slytherin? His dad had always talked about the Slytherin boys that would bully people and be overall mean and rude. His pondering was however interrupted when the next name was called out.
"Whitewood, Nicolas!"
Nico took a deep breath and walked up to the stool, he sat down and he got the sorting hat placed on his head, the hat awkwardly on his mess of curly brown hair. His green eyes scanned the hall, all eyes were on him. Suddenly he heard a voice in his mind
Nicolas Whitewood, son of Benjamin Whitewood no doubt. He, in turn, came from a prestigious pureblood family. He was the first in his family not to be placed in Ravenclaw, he was a proud Gryffindor. Hmm, will you follow in his footsteps? I think so.
"Gryffindor!"
Nico opened his eyes, he hadn't even noticed he had closed them in the first place. He saw the Gryffindor table erupt in cheers and he felt an overwhelming pride wash over him. He was now a Gryffindor with a grin he ran over to the Gryffindor table.

The Sorting ceremony 2018-2019
Raine and the other first years followed the Headmaster through the doors that led into the Great Hall and right along with her other year mates, Raine looked up at the ceiling in excitement and amazement.
"Wow!" she said softly to herself as she took in the floating candles, the enchanted ceiling, the multiple frames all along the wall the held a multitude of famous people or headmasters of old. The new first years were led down the middle of the room, the gap separating the four tables to either side of the room. Raine looked at each table and in turn, each student at each table, each older than her by one year or more, looked back at her and the other first year students. Swallowing nervously, Raine looked ahead and followed the group, stopping when everyone else stopped in front of a stool with a ratty-looking hat with stiches around the brim. Raine had read in Hogwarts: A History, about the magical hat that would place them in their proper houses. She only hoped that the house she was placed in was, in fact, her proper house.
The hat soon came awake and sang a lenghty song about the Hogwarts houses and soon the first student was called. Raine watched as the Headmaster placed the hat on the boy's head and it yelled out,
"SLYTHERIN!"
The table to the far left cheered and to Raine it was almost cheerful but was still as poised as most Pure-blooded Slytherins were trained to be. She wondered if her mother was as subdued as the students who were seated now.
"HUFFLEPUFF!"
Raine was brought out of her musings as a loud cheer came from the table directly left of her and a girl with pigtails skipped merrily over to sit with the sea of yellow and black. Back to back students were called and placed in their houses. She watched eagerly as the group of students slowly dwindled down to about eight students. Her friend was next and she squeezed his shoulder in support as he shyly walked up to the stool and sat down. The hat was placed on his head and it sat there for quite some time. Raine was beginning to wonder if he would even be placed at all with how long the hat sat deliberating with him.
However, the hat soon opened its gaping leather jaw and shouted, "RAVENCLAW!" and Raine watched as her friend smiled shyly, and walked over to the table filled with black and blue trimmed robes and sat down where a space was left for him.
The gray-eyed child smiled as her friend looked back at her and smiled at her, giving her a thumbs ups after two students with the last name starting with "R" were called and placed in their houses and then her name was called. Her heart lurched and she looked up at the Headmaster nervously. Taking a deep breath, she walked up to the stool and sat, waiting for the hat to be placed on her head. She jumped a little as she heard a voice in her head.
"Well, well. You're much different than the others. You're an observer and prefer not to get involved with others yet you cannot help but involve yourself if you see someone being tormented by another. You do enjoy your studies; a straight A student in your Muggle school and you placed second in academics in your other school as well. You have the ambition to prove many wrong about you and to follow in the footsteps of your Slytherin mother. Yes...yes I see it now. All three houses of Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin would be the perfect homes for you but only one is best suited for you my dear, and it better be...
"GRYFFINDOR!"
A maginificent cheer sounded from the table to the far right as all of the students from Gryffindor cheered for her. Stepping from the stool, Raine walked over to her table and sat down, making sure she faced the Ravenclaw table where her friend sat and clapped happily for her placement. She wished that she was also in Ravenclaw, but she knew that being in a different house wouldn't change anything about their friendship. Nodding her head in thanks to the boy, she then turned her attention back to the rest of the sorting ceremony as the last of the students were called up to take their own turns on the stool.

The Sorting ceremony 2018-2019
Georgia watched the Sorting Ceremony with a mixture of awe and trepidation. She could scarcely believe that this was real, that she was a witch, and that she would live and learn in this giant castle for the majority of the next seven years. It was both scary and immensely cool in equal measure, although Georgia was beginning to suspect that the latter was winning out. It was weird to think that she would be separated from her family, but she would learn magic! She would make magical friends! She was so excited that she bounced on the balls of her feet as she watched the ceremony, trying to understand how it worked.
As far as she could tell, the Sorting Hat was placed on a student's head and, after an indeterminate amount of time, it would loudly announce a house to the whole hall. Georgia had no idea how it made that decision. Its song had stated it looked inside your mind, but it was a hat, wasn't it? A magical hat, admittedly, but a hat nonetheless.
While she waited, Georgia wondered what house she would be sorted into. She wasn't a failing student, but she knew she wasn't clever or witty enough to go to Ravenclaw. Hufflepuff seemed like a safe choice, but she wasn't sure she wanted to be safe. But Slytherin was cunning and Gryffindor was brave, and Georgia did not think that either adjective could be applied to her. She chewed on her bottom lip as she waited for her name to be called.
"Georgia Chapman!"
She hurried to the small stool, looking out across the gathered students as the hat was placed on her head.
"Hmm, what do we have here?" asked a voice in her head.
Georgia's eyes went wide, realising that it was the hat! The hat was speaking to her! She shut her eyes quickly, blocking out the crowd in front of her.
"A newcomer, I see. Well, what should I do with you? Ambitious, yes, you have a lot of ambition, so Slytherin might suit you well... but not much cunning, it seems." Georgia felt herself blush at that. Was the hat calling her stupid? "Not at all, child. Ambition, but tempered with daring and courage, not cunning... I think I know where you belong!"
Georgia's eyes flew open as the hat roared, "GRYFFINDOR!"
That surprised her, but she was pleased with the outcome. Her house seemed happy too, as the table of red and gold erupted into thunderous applause as she made her way to join them. She couldn't stop smiling.

The Sorting ceremony 2018-2019
"Quinlan, Marla"
The words echoed throughout the hall, and Marla froze. Just a few seconds ago, she was feeling confident and giddy about going up to find out what Hogwarts house she would be sorted into. But just like that, every ounce of bravery Marla had completely disappeared. Everything felt so surreal as she stood up and watched every last student place their eyes on her as she turned around towards the sorting hat. She walked up the stairs, and hopped onto a wobbly stool which was way above the various other students who were sitting at the tables. She placed the hat on her head, which was much too big, and hung over her eyes a little bit.
"Now.. You're an interesting one, aren't you?"
Marla jumped as the hat started to talk to her even though she was expecting it. She bit her lip, unsure what he meant by interesting. Marla wasn't boring, per say, but she wasn't extremely fascinating. 'Interesting' seemed like a broad term, and definitely an overstatement.
"Hmm... It's unexpected that you would doubt yourself like that. You are very cocky... Yes? Hmm, impulsive, as well. Not to mention, very loyal, and quite intelligent. Huh. Very much like your mother."
"My mother?" Marla asked, she was so surprised that she even said it out loud. Marla loathed her mother with every bone in her body. Simply being related to the hag made Marla get chills down her spine. being called similar to her in any way, shape, or form, made her feel absolutely disgusted.
"Ah, not Ravenclaw, then! Hmm.. What to do.. what to do.... Brave and ambitious, very rowdy. Mischievous as well. You may do well in Slytherin. But you are too confrontational... Huh! I think I know where you belong... Yes!"
Marla opened her eyes as the sorting hat's voice boomed in her ears.
"GRYFFINDOR!"
The Gryffindor table erupted into a thousand cheers, there was stomping and laughing as she ran over with a toothy grin on her face. Marla sat in a middle seat of the Gryffindor table and couldn't stop smiling like an idiot.

Callum walked into the room with the other first-year students, as they walked down the hall he took a look at each of the tables of students sitting down, they were all older than him, the long tables had gaps between each other on either side of the room, he looked up at the candles floating above, his mouth opening wide as he looked, he turned his heads to the students already sitting once more, hearing whispers as he walked further along the aisle, taking a deep breath, nervously fidgeting with his hands.
he'd reach the end of the aisle with his fellow newcomers and would lay his eyes upon the ragged hat that sat on a wooden stool in front of him, he'd place his hands at his side, looking around the room as students were called up, from what he could understand is that students sat on the stool and the hat would be placed on their head, from where the hat would assign them to a house, he was surprised when the hat began talking, freaking him out for a short second.
"Hudson, Callum"
his name was called, he'd look at everyone as they stared at him, feeling less confident than he already does, he'd take steps forward towards the stool, his body shaking from the nervousness, after a short minute of making his way to the stool, he'd take hold of the hat and plant himself onto the stool, lifting up the hat and placing it onto his head, his eyes rolled upwards.
The hat began to speak "Oh interesting, A Hudson...and a Cimare, both pureblooded families...I remember the day your mother and father sat where you sit now." he continued to fidgit with his hands as the hat spoke, "Very nervous I see, Yet strong, and caring, yes I know what to do with you."

The Sorting ceremony 2018-2019
Ayarai was intrigued when she first set foot in the Great Hall, following the other first years and the Headmaster. Her mother had described this place when she younger really well, but it was still a bit of a surprise to her. The ceiling was especially surprising for her, the way it looked it looked like it was a endless abyss with a lot of potential for surprises, and she liked that, the thought that she will be seeing new things made her happy and excited. And the fact that she was going to be following in her mother's footsteps of becoming a witch was extra exciting.
She remembered her mother telling her about the Sorting Hat, well actually she only said one main thing when it came to it, 'The Sorting Hat is self-explanatory, Aya, it's a hat that gets put on your head to help you find out which house you are in, that is all I am willing to explain though." These words now rang in her ears, finally realizing the reason as to why her mother only told her that, it was so that she could experience this event for herself and not live through her mother's words.
She waited for her turn to come, the excitement can be seen in her eyes as she kept a calm look on her face, but if you look a little deeper, you could see that she was a bit anxious. Her mother was Slytherin, and from the brief description her mother gave of her father, her father was Ravenclaw, so she wondered where she was going to be put herself. She was lost in her thoughts, though she knew her time was coming up soon, she didn't which student was placed where, just that her time was coming soon.
"Blizard, Ayarai"
She heard her name finally, looking around the room she saw many pairs of eyes on her, but that didn't make her anymore anxious then she already was. She stepped up towards the stool, her head held high as she sat down on the stool, lifting the hat up and placing it on her head, not knowing what is now going to happen or how it will determine where she will go. But her question gets a answer.
"Ahh, I know who you are, your parents showed great potential, especially your mother, I expect the same from you." A voice says in her head, not expecting it at all she jumps before quickly gathering herself again, "Hmm, you have some wit and wisdom in you, maybe you would fit in Ravenclaw like your father." The Sorting hat says as Ayarai tenses a bit, "Oh? You do not like that? Well, you are quite cunning and you do have quite a bit of ambition, fit enough to be a leader as well if you so choose. Hmmm. I know where you would fit best." The voice continues before she hears it ringing outside of her head.
"SLYTHERIN!"
Ayarai turned her gaze towards where the Slytherin table was, hearing the loud cheer and the smiles coming from there. She couldn't help but smile a bit herself, getting up she moved towards the table, feeling quite happy to have joined the same house as her mother.

Hannah while entering the great hall felt daunted when she saw the massive amounts of students. As she wondered in the great hall with all the other first years she suddenly got nervous "Wonder what house i get put in" she thought quietly "as long as i don't get Gryffindor im fine" she reassured herself. As they suddenly stopped Hannah started to daydream as children started going to the stool to try on the funny patchy looking hat. As Hannah daydreamed about the houses she could see herself just being in Ravenclaw having unlimited access to books to her hearts content or Slytherin easy access to potions so she could brew as many potions and become a skilled Potioner or even Hufflepuff appealed to Hannah as it might encourage her to make friends and probably give her easy access to food. Suddenly Hannah was suddenly awoken from that trance when her name was called. Hannah trembled as she made her way up to stool to be sorted. As she sat down she felt a strange feeling on her head which was the hat. At first she didn't hear anything until she heard a murmur from the hat debating weather to put her in ravenclaw or gryffindor. "Not gryffindor Not Gryffindor" Hannah begged as the hat debated weather to place her in gryffindor or ravenclaw. Then the hat paused for a minute and shouted GRYFFINDOR in the loudest voice. Hannah gave a weak smile before stumbling to the gryffindor table. "How disappointing" she thought to herself
