The Gryffindor Table 2017-2018
Emilia smiled nervously as she approached the Gryffindor table, taking an empty seat.
She wasn't sure what she expected, feeling both nervous and excited at the same time, she was eager to begin her school year, to get to lessons. Which surprised the young lady, she had always been a daydreamer, the school had usually been thought of as confinement to her younger self.
But this was different, this felt right like she was meant to be here. Her blue eyes looked down the long table, taking in the different faces around her, tucking a free strand of ashen blonde hair behind her ear as she looked wide-eyed at the feast laid out before her. The amount of food seemed immense.
She spooned some chicken and vegetables onto her plate, her stomach filled with butterflies, too excited to eat tons of food, even if the deserts did look delicious.
Emilia glanced towards the teacher's table, as more students were assigned their houses, clapping for every student that was placed in Gryffindor, beaming with pride, she had heard great things about her house already, and was eager to learn more about the history of Gryffindor, as well as seeing her dorm room for the first time.

The Gryffindor Table 2017-2018
Entering into the Great hall was amazing site Luna watched as candles floated by and students talked amongst themselves happily. Before Luna could manage to sit anywhere they were asking the new first years to line up in alphabetical order. Luna tried to keep herself from being too overexcited and from fidgeting. She soon found comfort in twisting her ring around on her finger, for after a while it was finally her turn.
Feeling very nervous she sat at the stool looking around among the others who were left to be sorted and the ones who have been sorted already. The hat considered for a moment mumbling and talking aloud about the potential houses Luna could be in. Her ring on her finger felt once again like when she first got on the train warm and as soon as the sorting hat had called out Gryffindor Luna felt an overwhelming pride.
She got into the house her father was in she felt glad that she at least got into one of the ones that her family has had been in. Though the thought of being a Slytherin was more entertaining, but being a Gryffindor would be just as splendid, soon she was climbing down from the stool to the table of her fellow Gryffindor’s.
As she picked a place to sit the ring seemed to dull in the moment and Luna finally felt like she would be at home at Hogwarts. Waiting for everyone to be sorted and settled Luna felt that it was time to introduce herself properly.

The Gryffindor Table 2017-2018
Carwyn sat down looking rather annoyed. He didn't want to be here in the first place, so why should he listen to a stupid hat! As far as he was concerned he shouldn't have to sit at the correct table, he shouldn't have to sit at all. He got up and began walking towards the exit before being stopped by a teacher, the large group of other students saw this and burst into laughter, Carwyn spun on his heel ready to sock the nearest boy making a fool of him before the teacher grabbed him by the ear and sat him in his seat. He was very angry and didn't plan on talking to anyone but before long he was chatting like everyone elts and forgot how angry he was. Before long he stopped just chatting and began to eat, and in the end had a wonderful time, and acquainted himself with multiple people. Maybe he wouldn't have that bad of a time after all.

The Gryffindor Table 2017-2018
I'd walk over nervously, my heart beating fast. I'd take a seat in an empty chair, putting in my ear buds to calm me down. I'd take a glance at someone a little farther down the table before grabbing something to eat. I'd take a bite and turn up my music before tuning out everyone else in the noisy room. I'd try not to draw attention to myself.

The Gryffindor Table 2017-2018
Gryffindor... Gryffindor. Annona could hear her mother now. "Oh, Nona! I told you, I told you! You're a brave little lion!" But in that moment, she felt anything but brave. All these eyes on her, the cheers from the crowd of strangers. She wanted to run, to hide away deep in the castle halls and never be found again. But how could she? Certainly she'd be found, and worse, consoled. Annona took one huge breath as the sorting hat was removed from her head. She shambled down the stairs of the grand hall and through the isle of cheering kids.
"T-thank you.. Thanks.. " she muttered as she passed table upon table of the other houses. Her eyes desperately searched for safe place to sit. Between the two well fed boys fighting over an ostrich sized piece of meat? Definitely not... What about the quiet boy reading a book? Or the girl before her, she looked as nervous as Nona felt. It was all too late for decision making, she had arrived at the table and didn't want to hover too much longer. She took the closest available seat next to a young girl, with no one on her other side. She passed her a sheepish smile then ducked behind her hair for safety. Was is too late to get a cab home?

The Gryffindor Table 2017-2018
She stood there shaking, at war with herself in her mind. She knew she should be hoping for Ravenclaw, her father's house. Besides, she liked reading and considered herself a good student at her old school. Her thoughts wandered back to her muggle friends whom she had been forced to hide her secret from. She remained lost in thought until she realized they were getting to the R's.
"Gryffindor!" shouted the sorting hat. She looked up at the house's name. Brave, always involved. It was everything she wished to see in herself. But she knew what her father would say. "There's a fine line between bravery and foolishness." The grimaced as the words rang in her head.
"Ruaric, Coral!"
Coral looked around in shock for a second, then remembered she has to get up to the front. She slipped through, trying not to hold up the ceremony. Finally she sat upon the stool and the hat was placed on her head.
She didn't know what to expect from the Sorting Hat, but this defiantly wasn't it.
Ahh, Miss Ruaric. I remember your father. A Ravenclaw if I ever saw one. He was very slow to act reflective. But you, I couldn't have put you to together without the name. You rely on skill and instincts, but I can tell sometimes you don't think things through. You have a sense of purpose to do what is right... but also the desire to please your father... Still, I see it fit that you should hone your own skills, not your father's. Which means you should be...
"Gryffindor!"
Coral felt the Sorting Hat be taken off her head and felt a sense of releif flood through her. But it was sort lived, she found out as the made her way to the Gryffindor table. Her father would be furious! She found a seat next to a girl she had seen earlier in the Sorting Ceremony.
Coral sat down and, eager to get her father out of her mind, turned to the girl.
"Hey," she said, not really sure how to start the conversation.

The Gryffindor Table 2017-2018
The Great Hall was jam-packed just as expected, but it made little difference to Max. He was used to school cafeterias with too many students and not enough space. Plus, his small stature and thin frame made it easy to squeeze past other students.
Gryffindor! Max had grown up hearing stories about Hogwarts from his mother, a proud Ravenclaw, but he cared very little about her opinion right now (or at all). He was a Gryffindor; the house of bravery and chivalry. The house of heroes.
He'd had very little money left after buying all his school supplies, so he resisted the temptation of buying snacks on the train... Which meant he was starving by the time he reached the table. He squeezed between two students who probably didn't even notice him.
Unfortunately, the feast meant only disappointment for the new Gryffindor, as it was all... Real food. He had been brought up on a diet of corner pizza and frozen chicken nuggets. Tentatively, he poked and prodded at several different foods, until he was stuffing his mouth with food. He'd deal with the stomach ache later.
His thoughts rushed with excitement, joy, and all sorts of emotions he couldn't quite describe. Hogwarts, a Gryffindor, magic. No more public school, no more being alone at home, locked in his room playing videogames and wishing for something better.
Max Miller found himself crying, mouth stuffed full of mashed potatoes and holding up roast chicken drumsticks with both hands.
No matter how small, no matter how weak, he was a Gryffindor.

The Gryffindor Table 2017-2018
Regina sat quietly as the Headmaster proceeded with his speech about welcoming first-years, rules within Hogwarts and warnings about the Forbidden Forest. Frankly, she was only listening to 3/4 of the things he stated; her mind was too occupied with her own thoughts. Regina wasn't as enthusiastic as the other Gryffindors, she seemed like an introvert loner who didn't want to socialize. She always thought that she'd be automatically sorted into Slytherin, given that the every Miller before her did, even her older siblings. She'd never thought that a single image of her Mother would put her straight into the rival House of her own bloodline.
Nonetheless, Regina was content. Every wise wizards and witches believed that the Sorting Hat had never been wrong, so being in Gryffindor might be her destiny. Regina could careless which House she could have been put in, now that she was officially a Hogwarts students, she could finally thrive to achieve her goal and prove her worth one day in the future. Her violet eyes took a glance over the Slytherin table, and though she'd never admit it, Regina was also glad that she wasn't in the same House as her awful sister was.
"Still, that doesn't change the fact that I'm the only one that's in Gryffindor." She muttered quietly to herself. Once the feast is over, she would have to write an owl to her parents. Her graduated Gryffindor Mother would definately be happy. Regina vaguely wondered if her Father would be the same.
At last, as the Headmaster ended his speech, various delicious food appeared across the table that impressed the young witch. Regina started taking a little bit of everything onto her plate and honestly, she enjoyed them quite alot. As she dined, Regina glanced back and forth, hoping to catch a glimspe of her favoured cousin, and to her dissapointment, she couldn't find him anywhere. So, Regina decided to just focus on her food without paying any attention to any of her housemates. She was never the one to start up a conversation anyways.

The Gryffindor Table 2017-2018
"GRYFFINDOR!"
The house of the courageous? What was the hat thinking? She wasn't courageous, she was absolutely terrified. Somehow she shuffled her way along to the Gryffindor Table. Oh Merlin, so many people. So many first years... How did one talk to other people? She had no idea. She never had to start a conversation with people (children) that she didn't know yet. Let alone on her own without Willow's help.
She plopped down at the edge of the group of firsties and woodenly stared at the table, too scared to look up.
don’ttalktomedon’ttalktomedon’ttalktome Oh Merlin. She would much rather be at home right now. Home wasn’t scary but it wasn’t Hogwarts either. Get a grip! What would Willow do? Giving herself a small but resolute nod she tried to lift her head and look around. She couldn’t look anyone in the eye (was that impolite? Polite? Seriously how did people do this? ) but at least she wasn’t staring at her legs anymore.
Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad, right? This was Gryffindor not Slytherin so the people should be nice-ish, right? Not that there was anything wrong with Slytherin – her mother had gone there after all. Was there something to the rumours about the houses? She hoped not. Then again… maybe that would make it easier, knowing what to expect from people based on… no. Who was she kidding? She knew exactly that it didn’t work like that. Your house didn’t define you. It merely showed one aspect of your personality and didn’t mean much in the grand scheme of things. (…right? She was overthinking this.
Realizing that she was shaking slightly she clenched her fists under the table. Calm down, Juniper. Time to face the music. She readied herself and turned to the people next to her to greet them.
“…”
Only she didn’t manage to get a single sound out. Why was this so hard?

Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the assessment that something else is more important than fear.

The Gryffindor Table 2017-2018
Lilith found a spot at the table that wasn't completely packed by two other girls who were also sorted into Gryffindor by the names of Regina and Juniper. Neither seemed very keen on talking, which was best for Lilith.
There was more food on the table around her than she had probably seen in most of her life and all of it smelled delicious, but the uneasy feeling in her belly restricted her from eating.
Gryffindor? The house of the brave? Well, at least it wasn't Hufflepuff. Lilith snorted as she glanced over at the Hufflepuff table, who were all talking excitedly to each other. Lilith would rather eat a live moth than be a social butterfly.
Lilith figured that Gryffindor was better than nothing. She figured she would have gotten into to Ravenclaw or Slytherin, certainly not the lion house. Then again there was the mention of her mother having been in Ravenclaw. Instant hatred to the house that she never experienced, but that was from Lilith's own pity.
Lilith swallowed the stubborn lump in her throat viciously before she began to fill her plate with a salad and fruits. She watched on as others got sorted into their houses with mild interest. Her thoughts swam restlessly.
What if she wasn't brave? Sure, she can do things considered "brave" but it was always to benefit her. Plus, running away when things at home got tough didn't seem particularly brave to her. And chivalry was dead. Lilith never pushed a child out of the way of a broomstick or saved someone from choking on a meatball.
Hogwarts was new lands, new experiences. If there was anywhere that Lilith could show off any bravery she may or may not have hidden inside of her, it was now.
"This is bloody brilliant," Lilith muttered to herself like a crazy person and shoved some lettuce into her mouth. "Absolutely fetching-ha."
