The Slytherin Table 2017 - 2018
Maeve enjoyed people-watching. In fact, it was one of her favorite hobbies. She loved sitting around the Slytherin table and watching her fellow house members go about their business. New friendships were made, some broken, arguments, she loved it all. Maeve wasn't good at human interactions personally, but she like watching people who were, making picking up a few tricks at how to actually talk to people. Her stutter didn't help anything, either.
Often, Maeve would speak to herself in Greek. She didn't know anyone, albeit her own siblings, who could speak the ancient language, so she didn't worry about eavesdroppers. When she saw the boy across from her spill his drink everywhere, she shook her head slightly. "Τι αδέξιο αγόρι." She remarked disapprovingly. But, when a different boy came to his aid, she grinned. That was what Hogwarts was about, right? Making mistakes and getting help.
"Ελπίζω να γίνουν φίλοι. Στενοί φίλοι. Το παιδί είναι πάρα πολύ ντροπαλός για να είναι χωρίς έναν φίλο." She said softly, smiling broadly.
Maeve turned to her book and read a few pages, still thinking over the interaction. People were strange, yes, but maybe she'd figure them out eventually. Maybe she'd make some great friends like that.

The Slytherin Table 2017 - 2018
Khris glanced at the hastily retreating hand, his eyes lighting with mild amusement and lips twitching upwards into a fond smile at the young boy's -at Lancelot's- sudden bout of shyness. It had lasted only a moment, the fellow Slytherin bouncing back instantly with a bright grin and polite question but still... Khris understood that moment well. Trying. Assuming you're doing something correct or polite or right and then having it be a bit not. It was something he'd always felt awkward about and he really, really didn't want this potential friend feeling nervous about it either.
Therefore he did the only thing that came to mind.
Khris stuck out his own sticky fingers and gave as bright of a smile he was capable of all while turning a brilliant shade of pink.
"Khris. Khris Bailey. Thank you again for the help, Lance." He ducked his head for a moment, shy and self-conscience laughter bubbling from his lips before curls spun at a quick shake of his head. Oh goodness, socializing was nerve-wracking! Their eyes met again. "Really though, you'd be surprised at how many woulda done that. Just walked away I mean. Your staying and helping was actually kind of rare so really, thank you." Delicate fingers trembled from where they were still outstretched.
He meant it though. Khris knew the facts, had seen and witnessed them first hand. Food trays being purposefully dumped on the floor only to be passed by student after student as he scrambled to salvage his lunch. Books getting knocked away while papers went flying only to be trampled by feet too busy to pause. Harsh laughter and scattered items and fingers getting accidentally or purposefully crushed. That was normal, but this? This was almost as mysterious as the wizarding world itself.
Khris ran his free, not-outstretched hand through his hair absently, fingers still trembling and a shy smile tossed upwards towards Lance when-
Oh. Oh dear. Oops.
Super sticky fingers, semi-long curly hair, bad combination. "Um..." Khris' nose wrinkled as he tried to remove the entangled digits without losing half his head as well. He tugged, wiggled, closed his eyes as he reddened to a truly impossible shade of embarrassment.
"Sorry..."

The Slytherin Table 2017 - 2018
Lance had been touched by Khris' words of his kindness, though he had just done it without thinking and without real planned intention. He almost didn't want Khris to thank him so much, it didn't seem right that such a small act he didn't even consider doing before helping should be recognized. Lance was just performing a seemingly normal deed. Had his new companion been so deprived of simple generosity that he was utterly astounded with the feat? Lance didn't wish that upon anyone! He wanted everyone to have happy lives. It was strange. Growing up in Brazil, everyone was awfully warmhearted to each other, and the town was so close they all felt like family. But in England, things seemed to be different. The people seemed to be different. Lancelot wouldn't stand for it; in fact, this only made his intent to befriend as many people as he could stronger. So he firmly took Khris' hand in his own, a newfound determination turning his friendly smile into a radiant beam.
But alas, his resolute gaze broke into something more lighthearted when Khris got his coated fingers stuck in his blonde hair. Lance couldn't help but let out a jaunty giggle, but not of which was intended to be mean, but rather because it reminded him of something that would happen to himself.
"That's fine!" he exclaimed with a sharp breath, his cheeks blushed from chuckling. "Here, lemme see if I can do anything." Composing himself, but still keeping a smile, he stood up and slithered his eyes smoothly across the nearby tables, a smirk spreading across his face when he saw a casual glass of water near someone who had their head turned. So he quickly swiped it away, aware that it probably didn't go unnoticed (it's not like he was going to randomly ask someone for their glass of water though). He then grabbed Khris' small hand gently as to keep it still and positioned the water above the area where his hair was attached to his skin.
"Okay, so, your hair is gonna be wet but that's fine, right?" he asked rhetorically, not waiting for an answer before dumping the glass of water on the sticky part of his head.
Though the water soaked part of Khris' curly hair, it also washed off the juice and allowed him to separate his fingers from it. Lance, for one, was very proud of himself for helping him out again. Probably too proud. It didn't make sense really, one moment he disapproved of the praise the next he expected it.

The Slytherin Table 2017 - 2018
Fascinating how that works. The way one person can affect another's behaviour and even personality so drastically just by a few well placed words and kind gestures.
Khris gave a contemplative hum, his shoulders relaxing and expression slipping into one of mild chagrin rather than the utter mortification of earlier. Don't get me wrong, he was still embarrassed and the colour in his cheeks proved that, but he no longer needed to worry about being mocked or bullied either. That one fact, that one piece of knowledge had ability to alter his entire attitude.
Lancelot didn't seem like the type of lad to cause harm -be it physical or emotinal- and that in itself afforded Khris an air of confidence not often allowed.
He even offered an amused snicker as he watched the taller boy swipe a glass of water from under someone's nose. He also made note to keep track of his belongings when around this fellow Slytherin. Not seriously, he found the antics of this young cleptomaniac most amusing and good natured but still... Khris thought of stolen sweets and "misplaced" wands and determined it a good idea to go to Lance first should any of things wind up "missing" one day.
His fingers being held steady suddenly pulled him from his thoughts and Khris swallowed nervously, eyes darting to Lance's in confusion.
Khris just had time for his eyes to widen in surprise before they were forced shut by a splash of cold water running across his fingers, through his hair, and down in a slight trickle across one half of his face.
He blinked, stared straight ahead in shock for one, two, three seconds.
Had that-? Did that really just-? A glass of water-? A stolen glass of water-? And poured right over my-? And in the Great Hall!?
He couldn't stop it then. He didn't even try.
A grin wider than a mile flew across Khris' face as sputtering giggles turned to genuine laughter, a sound that bubbled from his lips and flew above the rumbling noise of voices in the hall. His eyes closed as dripping hair sent water spilling in rivulets down and off his chin and fingers shaking not from fright but from mirth swiped the liquid from his eyes.
Oh goodness, what had he got himself into. A sneak thief, a mischief maker, a good natured trickster for sure.
Khris gave one last huff of a chuckle, a smile fond and amused and bright resting across his face.
"Thank you, Lance. Both for unsticking my hand and for that, the good laugh." He shook his head slowly as he lowered his eyes to the ground, a nervous chuckle offered before he continued on. "I-I should probably head out. Pumpkin juice, water and such... Change robes, but first?" Khris carefully reached his hand out once again, his confidence gathered to offer a genuine smile to his fellow Slytherin whilst meeting his eye.
"Friends?"

The Slytherin Table 2017 - 2018
Lance blinked in surprise when Khris erupted into laughter. He had expected shock, of course, but laughter? It was a pleasant surprise. Letting another bright grin spread across his face, he firmly concluded that he was able to do what he had wanted to the most. He had broken Khris out of his shy and reluctant shell and brought him into a world of confidence with his loud but genuine laughter. It made Lance feel accomplished and truly glad that he had decided to come by that day.
Setting the now empty glass of water back where he found it, he was about to speak when Khris spoke up instead. But the thing that really caught his attention was the boy's preposition to become friends. Lancelot's eyes instantly brightened and he flashed a toothy grin, not hesitating at all before clasping his hand on Khris', of which was outstretched welcomingly.
"Of course!!" he exclaimed without hesitation. "I'll gladly be your friend, no doubt about it! Come talk to me any time!" Lance felt even more jovial than he had a few minutes ago, and he was glad that he actually accomplished two of his long-term goals. Helping people with their social outlooks and gaining as many friends as possible. And Khris would especially be one of his closest friends, he felt. All in all, it had been a rather good encounter.

The Slytherin Table 2017 - 2018
After being declared a student of Slytherin, Res quietly made her way to the long table of cheering students. Although it made her nervous and shaky, she smiled at their enthusiasm of her being a part of their House.
"Welcome to Slytherin!" One of them welcomed and shook her hand fervently.
She smiled. Excitedly, she sat herself beside one of the students and watched as the Sorting Ceremony judged the students and led them to their deserving Houses.
Whoever her seatmate was, she was too distracted to notice as she was quite anxious.

The Slytherin Table 2017 - 2018
Alexx had been sitting at the Slytherin table, bored, as there was nothing to do. She picked at her food, too busy dealing with the butterflies in her stomach to be nervous. This day had been an adventure, that's for sure. A girl with black hair, whose name she hadn't caught, sat next to her, looking like she was dealing with the same anxiety as she was. Alexx thought about introducing herself but stayed quiet, unsure if she was wanted in a conversation.
Everything seemed too good to be true. She hadn't felt this safe, this free, in many, many years. She felt as though she had no worries. A huge weight had been lifted from her shoulders, yet it made it so that she felt like a piece of her was missing. It was sad to say that she felt lonely being this free. Having no problems, nothing to talk to yourself about, it made life boring for her.
After contemplating her loneliness, she decided that she would introduce herself. "Welcome to Slytherin. I'm Alexx Helm." She said, reaching over to shake the hand of the girl who had sat next to her. Maybe making a friend would make her feel better. At least, she hoped so.

The Slytherin Table 2017 - 2018
Now that he was sorted Glen made his way to the Slytherin table. In his haste to get away from all the attention that being the one getting sorted brings, he stumbled and almost fell on his face. He managed to catch himself the last second before tipping over but he doubted it was anything close to graceful.
He blushed. Get a grip There was no reason to be nervous anymore. He had already been sorted and now came the easier part - meeting new people. He was quite looking forward to that. Maybe he would even find it easier to relate to his fellow Slytherins than he found it to his classmates before. After all, he wouldn't have to lie to them about his magic.
He stopped next to the group of first years that had already been sorted into his house. It seemed to be quite a mixed group. It certainly wouldn't be boring to spend the next seven years with them. Or rather, he hoped it wouldn't. Then again, they were at Hogwarts and he doubted that such a magical place could ever be boring. There was so much to see and to explore.
Ah. Get your head in the game, you can do that later. He spotted a free space he could claim for himself and quickly sat down before he ended up standing around, lost in thought like an idiot.
"Hello."

The Slytherin Table 2017 - 2018
Alexx turned to the boy who ended up on her left, whose name she also hadn't caught. He seemed friendly enough, as he had greeted her with a "hello". The blonde girl offered a head nod, and a "Hey, welcome to Slytherin." It was the most she had to offer, but it was good enough.
People had truly begun to fill in the tables, there being a lot more people than she had expected. That was fine, the more the merrier. She wondered how many of them she would become friends with, how many of them would be interested in striking up a conversation or sitting next to her in class. Smiling to herself, she decided to be the one to make a conversation.
"I'm Alexx, by the way. Alexx Helm. You?" She asked the boy who had sat next to her. She hoped that he would be nice. He seemed friendly, but you never could tell. Alexx just craved social interaction. She craved the friendship. Ironically, that was the one thing she always seemed to lack.
It was nice enough being a pureblood, for everyone else who had normal family lives, that is. But for the Helm family, they weren't a part of the tight-knit community. Her mother didn't go and knit with the other pureblood wives and gossip about the community, and her father didn't work with every husband under the sun. Her brothers weren't star quidditch players, her little sister wasn't doing anything impressive, and Alexx certainly wasn't the most impressive kid on the block. Heck, they didn't even live in their own manor anymore! So the whole friend thing, it didn't come easily to her.

The Slytherin Table 2017 - 2018
Glen smiled. He seemed to have gotten lucky with his seat. The girl next to him seemed nice and up for conversation. He surely would've gotten distracted again if he'd had to take initiative. Those candles were distracting. He wanted to see if they were all of the same kind or different but he supposed that could wait. His housemates were probably more important right now. Case in point, the girl that spoke to him when he greeted the table.
“Hi.” Oh. Right. He had already said hello. Ah well... “My name's Glen. Glen Pope. Are you excited to be at Hogwarts?” He asked curiously.
To be perfectly honest he doubted that anyone here (of the first-years at least) was not excited to be here. The school was amazing. And that wasn't even because it was Hogwarts. The Hogwarts. The school itself (ignoring the history and reputation for a moment) was amazing. It was, well, magical.
He'd grown up in a mostly wizarding household even if it was one easily muggle-proofed in case Mum needed to entertain visitors for some library reason or a birthday party. Although it had always been somewhat awkward still. But even on days like Beltane or Yule their living room never came even a little close to being as special(? He wasn't quite sure what to call it) as Hogwarts what – and not just because Hogwarts was naturally far bigger. There really was no other way than to call the school magical. It was simply amazing to what wizards were capable of in such a scale.
