Alina and May entered into the Great Hall and she looked to her friend, "Look! You made it! You didn't pass out and you didn't perish from starvation! Oh, Em, you made it!" she was only playing with her friend. The two walked over to the Hufflepuff table and found a seat and she looked around the large room.
There at the Slytherin table she saw Bella with her friends. Bella had noticed her walk in and so when she looked her way, the two waved at one another. It was nice. It was a quiet sort of way to say HELLO to her twin without sharing words. They just didn't see one another a lot anymore, but that was okay. Then she glanced down the table to find some of her other Hufflepuff classmates and friends.
Alina was glad to see that supper was still being served and it had yet to move to desserts. She took the ladel of the cauldron like bowl next to her and placed some of the stew into her bowl and then gathered one of the rolls, taking a bite before setting it down on a saucer. Then she took her napkin, tapped her mouth, and spread it out across her lap. She liked to be proper when eating.

At last the two girls arrived to the Hufflepuff table for supper. May had always enjoyed the Great Hall very much. The ceiling was one of them, but the welcoming feeling that you could eat, talk and just feel at home made her tummy rumble. Again, of course. As Alina joked her, of course, as thought they had been in a very big and starving adventure (they were, actually, in a cat - portrait searching adventure), she sat on the table, looking at all the familiar faces of her fellow Hufflepuffs.
May didn't even bother to do as Alina with her cloth, but she only said; "Alina! Don't be so good mannered and eat! Still thinking of that cat, right?"
May had to admit it, she had taken a little bit more affection to the portraits. How could they support, being inside a painting? Of course, May would like to explore what was inside there. Image May...inside a painting. As she looked at the other houses eat, May saw that Alina was a little bit...worried. "Are you ok Alli?" May asked. She didn't want her friend to feel bad. Or less, hurt because May did something. Tho May hadn't done a thing.

"Yeah, yeah...I'm perfectly fine," she said as she turned her attention to her friend and took a drink of milk. "What makes you ask?" Sure, sometimes Alina got distracted but that was her usual. She was distracted more now ever since she had grown close with another fellow Hufflepuff Clifton Troublefield.
"And you?" she turned the attention to her friend. "How about you? How is May Moonstar on this lovely evening?" Moonstar. She liked how that sounded. Alina was odd like that, she liked to think about people's names a lot and always seemed to find envy with others. Something about Alina Rosier just didn't seem to be an interesting name to her. Maybe because she had it all her life. Maybe everyone grew bored of their name at some point or another.
Alina then dipped her roll in the stew and took a bit before placing it down. Then she used the napkin, of course. How did the kitchen elves make ALL this food, ALL the time, EVERY day? How did they clean it all up? It would be such a huge overtaking! Alina couldn't even imagine and she hoped that they were allowed to use their magic to make it easier on them.

May let out a stiff laugh, "I mean, you are really distracted. Daily. And every time you are distracted you are looking at that farm boy over there" she nodded towards the Hufflepuff, Clifton Troublefield, that she still hasn't had the pleasure to meet yet.
"Well, I'm fine. Just sad news, that's all" May said, a little sad. She had been given sad news about her mother that day, but really didn't want to talk about it.
May ate a spoonful of her mashed potatoes. They were delicious. May ate them with delight until she was full.
"You seem REALLY distracted. There's something you're not telling me Alli." May said, nudging her with her elbow. Softly, of course.
"You know, I still have the common room fire inside my head. Do you?" May asked.
She looked at the Ravenclaw table. Nobody. If Alina was going to be crushing on someone, she should tell May all about it. Yep, just like that.
Then, she looked at the Slytherin table. There he was. Her worst enemy. He was so arrogant. So unlikely. But May didn't want to think about it. Why did she want to think about it now?

If May really wanted to know why she was always distracted, she'd tell her but not when she said she had sad news AND spoke of the fire. Besides, she had a hint she already knew because of the places she was looking at while they ate that evening.
Alina looked down to her plate, moving around some of the vegetables as she thought. "I'll tell you my thoughts if you tell me yours first. Yours are more important. Mine are happy thoughts. Yours are....sad and then traumatizing from the fire." And they needed to start with her first statement.
"You said you got sad news. That takes top priority during this dinner," and she looked concerned. "You can talk to me, Em. About anything. And if I can help, I'll try to do what I can to help and if I can't help then I'll be an ear to listen, a shoulder to lean on. We should be able to share anything and everything." They already shared a room.
After that she needed to share about her experience with the fire too, if she was ready to. Alina's troubles were very minimal when it came to her friend's troubles.

"N-no Alli, you go first...I mean, my news aren't from the fire...I feel like it's not worth telling.." May said. She was shaking. "You're being too nice. You shouldn't. At least with me. You're more important."
May knew that her friend was going to insist, so she said it. "My mother's sick. Real sick. She-she may even die..." May looked down to her plate. She wanted to eat, but couldn't. Something was troubling her. Her mother. Why should she be troubled about her? They hadn't talked in years.
"My father sent me a letter. Don't tell me that my father didn't talk to me. He corresponds with me every day. He's sorry. But my mother is a coward. She doesn't know how to show up. After all this time." May said. She wasn't sad anymore. She was angry. Real angry. But she calmed down.
"They're going to take her to St. Mungos. Even tho she is a Muggle. My sister is a Junior Healer there, and will be able to help... Never mind me anymore. She'll be ok. What about you? You're crushing, right?" May asked. She was now smiling and anxious. She wanted her friend to spill the tea already!

She listened to May talk about her mother and her mother's poor health and felt simply awful for her. It didn't matter if they were on good terms or not - this was her mother. Even if something should happen, it was an opportunity lost to ever get to know her. Alina felt a sinking feeling for her friend. And she just didn't know what shes could say or do to help the situation. "May, I'm so sorry," she said softly, and shes meant it.
She knew what it was like to lose a parent, even if she really didn't get it at the time. It was even a parent who she wasn't close to, but just knowing that part was gone was like losing a part of yourself. She was sure she'd feel the same if something happened to her father, even though they too weren't close. Parents were parents, even if they weren't very good.
She was quiet for a moment, just thinking it wasn't the time to talk about happy things. She hoped that May's older sister could somehow make things better. She had heard great things at St. Mungo's and even maybe planned to work there someday when she was older. So far, she was liking that sort of idea for a future career - something with healing.
Maybe talking about something else was what May needed. When she was upset about her mother, it was best not to talk about it. That's at least what worked for her to cope with it. "Okay, so I do like someone a little. A lot. We've been spending a lot of time together. The Ball," although May might remember Alina wasn't there. That's because they had their own. "I don't even know why I'm telling you because I'm sure you already know," because she had spent a lot of time with him. She looked back over towards Clifton and smiled when he looked her way.
