Candyman Complete Main Story

It was about seven in the evening. The day correlating on the day of the post, a lone boy stood in the courtyard. His name Vladimir Athanatos, a second year Ravenclaw.  For the most part he was a relative unknown, a reclusive  youth that kept to himself. His affiliation with a pair of Slytherins that were similarly isolated, left the trio beneath the notice of their peers.

On this day he was alone, it looked a bit dramatic really. He was  standing in the middle of the courtyard, his back to a pillar. He was wearing a long, wool, dark coat that rested just below his knees and his collar was upturned. He looked like a shady arms dealer. That was not far from the truth, not really. He was giving out something that he had no right to have -- candy.

Well, it was not that candy was contraband on Hogwarts grounds, but this candy was. There was a candy shop in Hogsmede called Honeydukes. It was not terribly far from the grounds but it was an arduous trek to get there, especially since it was a no-no to run out there without special dispensation or permission. He had neither either, but he had his ways. So yes, in a way contraband.

"Hey you..."

"Yeah you."

The young man's hair looked dirty blonde in the warm light and the purveyor would give his potential buyer a lopsided grin. "I got one hell of a deal for you if you're willing to buy." He would slowly unbutton his coat to reveal confectioneries hidden within. It was as if he was about to show the student the answers to the Transfiguration Owls. Those would come at a premium that his intended audience would never be able to afford.

"Selling candy and cards in time for Valentines Day," he announced. "Something your your (lady or man) love to enjoy as a treat to ensure that their heart is yours for but one day," he claimed.

This game is simple, I have the goods. I sell you the goods. You then have the goods. These goods are laced with a potent love potion that must be used the month of Feb. A thread started on March 1 would have a candy that is inert. This thread is simply for fun. It abides by all site rating rules. Do not hand out this candy without OC consent.

**One per customer.**

Effect: intense feeling of love (how that is defined is up to the player that is affected's discretion) that lasts the duration of the thread. The thread must be started before March 1 OC and IC.

When Jack came across the second year in the courtyard and heard about what he had for sale, he was both horrified and transfixed by the potential of the goods. On the one hand, it was a lot of power to be used against someone. On the other hand, it was a lot of power to be used against him. A chill went up his spine as he paced back and forth a bit, unsure of what to do and silently, inwardly panicking.

Eventually, he decided he had to buy at least one of the sweets - to use as a threat in self-defense if necessary, or a bluff or for retaliation if nothing else. In the end, though, he was just glad he had learned about these things so early to begin with. It gave him an advantage and reminded him to be more alert about what he chose to accept from people this frightening February month.

With an awkward sort of stride, he made his way to the shady-seeming Ravenclaw and pulled out his currency, counting out 10 sickles for the Valentines Day Card spritzed with Amortentia. It would be much easier to ward people off if they could tell it was dangerous by looking at it (and/or smelling it). Not to mention it would be easier to give someone something to read than to expect them to eat it.

With a shaking hand, Jack held out the 10 sickles and asked tentatively, ""Uh...could I...purchase one of your cards, please...?""

Lamik was tired. Very tired. The boy had made the mistake of staying up the night before for no reason other then to think. He had a lot on his mind- his house (and by extension him) had gotten pretty seriously involved with the Harry Potter case, his little sister was having trouble at school, and probably what bothered him most of all- the headmaster was still missing. The lack of sleep, along with the hard work that came from the day of classes and Homework, made it so that every step the 12 year old took felt heavy, and every blink felt like he was about to fall asleep.

It was probably for this reason that the boy failed to recognize the obviously suspicious nature of the student in the courtyard. No, the idea that buying from the stranger would lead to any trouble whatsoever barely even crossed Lamiks mind, and instead the only thing he could think about was how much a bit of sugar would help his slow trudge back to Gryffindors common rooms. With a weak, polite, smile, Lamik Fillestar walked up to the dealer, fished a few coins out of his robes pocket, and listened to the "menu". "I'll take a Sherbert Lemon." He said, as he counted off the correct amount of coins. "Thank you."

Clumsily, Nico dropped her bag with art supplies on the floor. A nosy rock caught her foot. Nico couldn't help but imagine that it was one of the rocks hobbies to interfere peoples daily routines. 'Frick...'

Embarassed, she quickly gathered her things and stuffed them in her bag once more. Hopefully no one saw her date with gravity. After dusting off her knees, she heard someone call out for her. In a whisper tone but still loud enough for her to hear. Heck, is he gonna laugh at her?

It was nothing of the kind. He gestured her to come closer. For a brief moment, Nico stared at the boy. He looked strange and unfamiliar. Was he an older student? Even as a Prefect she hadn't noticed him in the halls before. Usually Nico is pretty good at remembering faces but this one? No clue.

'M-Me?' As he sneered at her with a nod, Nico quickly shuffled over to him. 'Is there.. a problem?' Before the boy answered her question, he unbuttoned his jacket. Startled, the little dhampir set a step back. What on earth was he doing?!

Oh..

Within his coat, he revealed an assortiment of snacks - candy. Nico wasn't sure if what he was doing here was legal or not. Should she report this to her Head of House? She doesn't want to get scolded for being irresponsible. Before she'd tell the boy to get out of there.. Her eyes fell on the third option. A chocoball. As she was very fond of chocolat she was sold. She had to act quickly before anyone else knew she was here.

'F-Fine, give me a Chocoball. Quick.' Swiftly, she handed him the requested amount of coin. 'I was never here...' She glared at him intently. As soon as she received her item, she dashed off. Clumsily shoving the chocolate in her bag.

Evelynn was on her way back into the castle after another evening solo flying practice. It was clear this time, at least, but no less chilly. Perhaps moreso, in fact, given any sort of cloud cover to act as insulation. Steam billowed off the over-exerted youngster and her breaths still hadn't quite returned to a normal resting rate.

"Hey you..."

Evelynn glanced briefly in the direction to see a shadowed figure. Not sketchy at all. Wanting nothing more than to ignore him, she was just about to continue forward towards the castle when he called out again, "Yea you.".

Brows furrowed, Evelynn glanced all around to see if he could possibly be speaking to someone else. He wasn't. She looked back to him suspiciously and asked, "What do you want?"

His answer only deepened her mistrust, a steely gaze roaming his person in scrutinizing fashion. But she could not deny her curiosity, and as he unbuttoned his coat, she found her attention drawn to the collection of contraband confectionery. Although a hint of suspicion remained in the pit of her stomach, her expression quickly shifted to one of marvel and curiosity as the boy explained their use.

"To ensure their heart is mine for a day?" she echoed, her feet already angling towards the stranger. "You almost make is sound as though they're laced with some sort of love potion."

In fact, that was exactly what she was thinking. Why else for the secrecy and theatricals. And to ensure their heart is yours for a day made it sound as though there was an effect of sorts that could wear off after a time.

"I'll take a chocoball," she said succinctly, fishing in a pocket for a spare silver sickle.

She had no intention of using it. Not really. She couldn't think of anyone on whom she would wish to impart such a ghastly potion; and more importantly, she couldn't think of anyone who's affection she fancied. But she was definitely curious about the effect, and wondered if she might be able to take it down to Professor Price to reverse engineer whatever potion had been brewed into the crafting. And if she could then craft that herself... well... she envisioned a niche little market among angsty fellow teenagers.

"And who, dare I ask, is the boy behind this beguilement?" she asked, lifting her gaze to the unfamiliar ravenclaw with a cheeky grin.

Ruka was making his way through the courtyard barefooted as always, and running late for his next class, so when he heard someone seemingly calling out to him he didn‘t stop right sway.

However, the sight of a boy he didn‘t think he‘d ever seen before in a wide coat, looking like one of those people selling stolen goods on the street made him stop in his tracks.

Yeah?“ he said slowly in response to the boy‘s call, and his eyes widened in momentary shock as he started unbuttoning the coat.

Not sure what to expect, Ruka sighed in relief when he was simply met with sweets and Valentine‘s cards. How juvenile - this boy had probably brought things back from Hogsmead to sell them to students who weren‘t yet allowed to go there.

Ruka eyed the candies and cards for a moment, considering if he should actually give into the temptation of getting something.
He really didn‘t have anybody to give a present for Valentine‘s day so maybe, if he would end up alone as expected, he could just eat the candies himself. What was the harm, right?

Or maybe he could get one of those cards and give it to Jack. The Slytherin could probably find some use in it, even if it was just to pull a prank on someone.

With a sigh, Ruka made up his mind and fished ten sickles from his pockets, handing them to the shady looking boy in his freaky coat. „Alright, I‘ll take a card,“ he said, reaching a hand out to take the item off the boy once he‘d paid for it.

Maybe he would meet someone worth writing a card to?

And if not, at least he‘d provide his non-friend with a pranking opportunity.

Where most young men and women were thinking of potential paramours, finding love or at least a somewhat reliable facsimile, the first to purchase one of the Ravenclaw's wares was seeking to defend himself with the power of love. Strange and oddly enough while unique a bit cliche in a Saturday morning cartoon sort of way.

""Uh...could I...purchase one of your cards, please...?""

But he also was not cheap about it, he chose to buy the card,. A good choice. Finding short-cuts, in life, in consumerism or in love tends to have dire consequences. "Yeah, not a problem," Vladimir replied as he pulled a sealed envelope from his jacket. With a lopsided grin he would give the Slytherin instructions, what he did with them was... well his funeral. "A step up from what you can get in the store, don't breathe it in... it works both ways," he warned. "I am sure your girl will love you for it." He let out a half chuckle as he said that, of course she would.

[Jack Out]

After the Slytherin departed, there was a time of peace. A lonesomeness, a state that had pervaded the youth and his closest friends for months that came over him. He only needed to do this for a few nights and then everything would be fine he had reasoned as he waited for his next buyer.

He did not know a lot of faces, so like the Slytherin before he did not know this Gryffindor either. There was no way for him to know why the boy was making the purchase he did, much like the boy that had come before. Likely the conventional reason -- love. Everyone wanted to feel loved, even if it was a ruse. Even if it was temporary. Even if it was for a little while. So when Lamik came and purchased a candy, like the one before there would be a bit of instruction. "Make sure that they are looking at the target of their voracious desire and nobody else when you give this to them," he instructed. "Otherwise this candy will prove quite dangerous," he warned. He had never seen it used but he heard it was powerful and that he should remain out of the line of sight. "But have fun with this one," he concluded with a smile as he passed the individually wrapped treat to the Gryffindor.

[Lamik Out]

Not every sale would go as smoothly or normally. He would address a ginger lass. She was a bit skittish. He was not entirely certain what she expected to see when he unbuttoned his jacket but he had decided it was best, perhaps even impolite to ask. The sale line was the same each and every time, make sure that they had some idea of what they were buying. Yeah, it was candy. Candy that was no more expensive than the store offerings but with a little something extra. It was like a public service being performed. Something he should feel proud of.

However, there was a reason why love potions were not something that was casually stocked in the shelves of stores. Toying with the emotions of others. Controlling their intentions and impulses. Altering the course of relationships and destroying ones autonomy was... for all intents and purposes very VERY wrong. But it would not stop love sick fools that wanted nothing more than for a day to have their passions requited.

'F-Fine, give me a Chocoball. Quick.'

She demanded.

Before he knew it the coin was in his hand.

'I was never here...'

"I--" he looked at his hand and at the coins. Yeah, they were all there. "Yeah," he complied as he looked her over a second time. "I will try to forget your pretty face," he muttered as he looked away. Let her leave, the transaction is complete. Not that she would need it, unlike the last two but who knows what sort of man or woman she was trying to hook.

[Nico Out]

The next customer reminded him a bit of the last. Not nearly as pale but nearly as red. He gave her the same practiced line.

"To ensure their heart is mine for a day? ...You almost make is sound as though they're laced with some sort of love potion."

He nodded in confirmation. "They are," he admitted. There was no use lying. Besides, what they were laced with was the selling point, it was not that hard to travel to Hogsmede and buy some sweet treats for oneself or their sweetheart. His candy offered an additional service. "Interested?" he was keeping the interactions simple.

He sold another chocoball. Good, he will have to restock those. They seemed to be more popular than the other options. That was good, they were not cheapening out. The exchange was simple, perhaps even mechanical. Coin in exchange for a confectionery.

"And who, dare I ask, is the boy behind this beguilement?"

"Naw," he laughed. "Just the seller. I hope whoever he is, you have a good time. Not that you probably need it."

[Evelynn Out]

Ruka, another student would be the last of that evening to come withing sale range of Vladimir. He would say his lines, as well practiced as they were. The expression on the boy's face brought him back to that of a red head the sale before last. What sort of strange sick minds did these people have? He revealed his candy stock. It was mostly sweet treats as well as a card option.

The boy would take a card. Another card sale. Interesting choice. "Very good," Vlad commented. "Just a quick warning. Be careful with this one. Don't breathe it in... it works both ways." With that the exchange would be made - a card for some coin. "But I am sure she will love it."

[Ruka Out]

That would be enough for tonight. If he stayed out any longer, the Prefects would would shoo him back to the tower anyways. he would be out again tomorrow.
The above have had the coins moderated. You will have the item in your inventory shortly. Have fun, be careful. I am assuming you all left the topic after the sale to prevent the thread from being clogged up.

Nick was walking around the hallways, meandering around during his free time. He rolled his eyes at the passing couples asserting their love with a major amount of PDA. It was Valentine's season and having a secluded school in the Highlands full of a bunch of teens pumped up on pheromones leads to a lot of couples not being able to wait until they're in a private environment.

Even with all these couples around, Nick was feeling a bit peckish and wanted something to eat. Dinner wasn't for another couple of hours so he would need to find somewhere to get some snacks. He had some toffees stashed in his dorm in January but he ate them all.

Passing by the door into the courtyard, he noticed a small girl smiling ear to ear with a chocoball in her hands. Nick got excited because they were pretty perishable treats and she looked way too young to get into Hogsmeade.

Nick walked outside looking for anyone selling treats in the courtyard. He spotted a dude in a trench coat that he actually noticed in the courtyard yesterday. He was talking up a blonde boy and eventually handed him a lemon sherbert. Aye, foond the dealer! Nick thought happily.

After the boy was done his transaction, he walked up to the older student. "Haw! I saw you 'ere sellin' some snashters. 'Ow much for the chocoballs?" Nick said pulling out his money.

Nick ran a hand through his hair. He should've known it would be laced with something lovey-dovey in February. Well, Nick had money to burn so he might as well buy it. He put the sickle in one of the Candyman's hand and took the chocoball from the other hand. "Thanks, min." Nick said to the seller before walking off, wondering if he'd have a use for this.

Dinner in the great hall would have been commenced about half an hours time ago. If she did not get back soon, there might not be any food left. Aurelia Notrésvace was only passing through the courtyard to get back to the castle when a she noticed an odd silhouette lingering by one of the pillars. The figure was dressed in dark colours, blending well into the shadows of the night. It certainly caught the little Monster Hunter’s attention.

The boy had noticed her presence as well as he called out for her, “ Hey you... yeah you.” Despite his height, the boy’s voice sounded fairly young and uniquely accented if she were to be honest. Aurelia could not quite pinpoint it’s origin.

The boy’s beckon and the Gryffindor’s natural curiosity did draw the third year to venture closer, cautiously she did. As her grandmother told her, she could never be too careful. I got one hell of a deal for you if you're willing to buy. he began. However, when his hand moved to his coat, Aurelia’s own hand moved to her pocket which her wand nestled in. One might consider the girl slightly paranoid but who could blame her after all the dreadful experience she had gone through?

Thankfully there was nothing that seem threatening under his clothes, only an array of sweets. “ Selling candy and cards in time for Valentines Day... Something your your (lady or man) love to enjoy as a treat to ensure that their heart is yours for but one day,” One of her eyebrow’s rose slightly at his explanation. Valentine’s Day was not one of the holidays the pureblood celebrated. She was not allowed dates with other parties that weren’t approved by her own family members prior. It was one of the various political practices as a pureblood. But the idea of an philtre was intriguing given that Aurelia was already betrothed. It might possibly come handy sometime in the future...

It is not quite lucrative to be selling these sweets at the same price hogsmaede gives. Shouldn’t an entrepreneur like you be making a little profit? ” Aurelia did not have much of a sweet tooth but a third year would have at least been to Hogsmaede once. She roughly remembered the prices to be around the same. A lovely smile spread across the girl’s delicate features as she placed five bronze pennies on the boy’s hand. “Lemon sherbert.” once she was in possession of the candy, she would tuck it into her bag and mutter a quick ‘thank you’ before scurrying off to the great hall.

Xailah was out doing some patrolling. To others the job was often found to be boring. This was not the case for this young Gryffindor. Patrolling was an excuse to explore- and do some people watching. And boy, were there some interesting people at this school. The old castle was a melting pot of freaks, fools, and wackjobs. The variety proved to be amazing, considering the sheltered background, Xailah came from. The majority were fun to observe- at a distance at least.

The courtyard wasn't her area to patrol, but she did like to walk through the area from time to time, mostly because she liked to look at the architecture. Normally the people who passed through the area weren't terribly interesting. But it appears today was no normal day. Today the courtyard housed a very odd character. In the courtyard, stood a boy- thats not what made him interesting. What made him interesting to look at, was his choice of attire. The boy donned a very cliché-looking coat.

She watched as the boy exchanged a few words some passerby, the boy would shout something, sometimes someone would stop, and then the boy would open his coat and give something to whoever he had been talking to. A transaction? A unintentionally haughty look, would begin to creep its way across Xailahs, as peered at the boy, over the frames of her glasses. What was he selling? She was curious.

She would make her way over to the boy, her fuzzy, grey companion, following close behind. As she got closer she could finally hear what the boy was shouting. Something about candies, and Valentines Day- the Gryffindor still had no idea what the heck this 'Valentines Day', thing was. But Xailah suddenly found herself craving something sweet, at the mention of candies. "What candies are you ssselling?" She inquired, as she produced a small coin purse from her robes.

She would briefly rummage around the little bag, before glancing back up at the boy. This kid seemed like a very 'Khajit has wares if you have coin' sort of guy. "Not much variety..." Her voice was lined with disappointment. She stood there mulling over the goods, indecisively. "Here-" She produced a coin from the purse, handing it to the boy. "How about you sssurprise me? You can keep whats left."

She would be handed a Sticky Caramel. Slightly disappointing, but she did let him pick after all. She wasn't going to complain about getting candy. "Hm. Thanks." Any comments that would suggest that the candies were for a romantic interest, would be met with a confused look, from the Gryffindor; as if to say: This candy is obviously for me. -Because it was, it was for her. Did she know they had love potion in them? No. Did he mention that they did? Maybe. She probably wasn't listening if that was the case.

Besides, even if she did have a so-called "romantic interest" (which she very much did not), she wouldn't give them candy she bought from a shady student. Xailah would turn to take her leave. Schrödinger, did not follow immediately. He would just look up at the boy, his mistress just made a transaction with, a lazy look resting upon his round face. "Waow." Even he sounded disappointed. You give my human candy, but not me any? Its fine its not like I wanted some anyway. Turning his nose up, he would run after his owner, in a dramatic fashion.
