Ross had not been standing in the Courtyard for long, but he refused to sit down. In his mind, there were a million things that could go wrong and sitting down was one of them. Perhaps Maison would not notice him, or perhaps he would not notice Maison. Maybe he would get t his spot claimed. There were a million terrible possibilities zooming through his head. Due to this, he remained near the edge of the Courtyard. Because it was a Saturday, he was in his regular clothes: A yellow and white striped T-Shirt and some jeans. His sneakers seemed to be worn down, but that was likely due to the fact he had owned them for over a year now- He could really do with some new shoes. In fact, he could really do with a fashion change himself; however, he was comfortable with only caring about how cozy the clothes were.

He could not have possibly chosen a better day for the planned experiment. It was a nice temperature outside- not too hot, not too cold. The sky was clear with only a few wisps of clouds. These were the days at Hogwarts everyone spoke of. The perfect breeze and the chatter of students could make any student feel at home. He was lucky he chose the time of day too, as an hour past lunch was around the time people started heading back to their regular routines. He doubted he would have been able to claim such a good spot if he had waited any longer. It was a pat on the back to himself for sure, but it was also for the sake of Maison. He had hyped up Hogwarts so much, it was only fair he showed its best parts.

The only concern he had was if Maison could even figure out where the courtyard was. Perhaps a tour would have been for the best after all, as he started to wonder if Maison even knew where he was going regularly. He was aware it was not his responsibility, but at the end of the day wasn't it?. He was the one who introduced him to many of the facts of Hogwarts, in the first place, so he supposed part of his job was to help out Maison. He was like a tour guide of sorts, or perhaps a tutorial character. He had no qualms with it, as he enjoyed assisting Maison in any way possible. He always managed to catch him off guard. He just hoped he would catch him off guard by showing that he knew where the courtyard was.

Maison had been counting down the hours to this moment and yet he still had managed to be running late. To be fair, it wasn’t entirely his fault. After shoveling lunch into his mouth as quickly as humanly possible, he had returned to Gryffindor tower to grab his spare pair of Chuck Taylors with the intention of arriving very early to the designated meeting spot. However, upon arriving at the Fat Lady's portrait, Maison realized that he had forgotten the password, and was forced to wait until one of his housemates showed up to finally enter the common room.

There was also the fact that the castle was immensely confusing. The staircases were always rearranging themselves and the only thing he had to orient himself with were the paintings, but the figures in them also moved, so Maison had spent much of his first week at Hogwarts feeling utterly lost. Trying to locate the courtyard in reference to Gryffindor tower also proved to be particularly tricky. Maison had only ever accessed it once during a free period between History of Magic and Herbology. He decided to start by navigating to the Entrance Hall and then find his way from there. Fortunately, an older student was able to point him in the right direction.

By the time the young lion stepped out into the courtyard, he was at least ten minutes late. His eyes locked on Ross who stood in wait, and much like an excited puppy, Maison bounded towards him. “Hiya, Ross! Sorry I’m late! Is it normal for the staircases to be moving so much? I know it’s only the first week, but I get lost at least twice a day. It’s a bit annoying.” Hopefully soon he would start to learn the layout of the castle, but then he had both the memory and attention span of a goldfish, so it likely wouldn’t be an easy feat.

“How was your first week of classes? Did you learn any new spells? We learned about the mending charm… oh, and the dancing feet spell! We’ll get to practice them next week, I reckon! We brewed a potion, too. One that cures boils. Did’ya know that slugs have horns?”

Maison only stopped speaking because he was running out of breath. So much had happened in the four days since he had seen Ross, and all Maison could think to do was to tell him everything.

A wave of relief washed over Ross as he watched his companion rush over to him. He was fine, he had not forgotten, everything was fine. While normally after several anxiety inducing minutes he would need a breather, he did not even have to try to feel a smile grow onto his face. Something about the bouncy boy brought an irrational amount of joy into his world every time he saw him. He just could not put his finger on why. Was it that he always caught him off guard? Yes.. that could certainly make sense, but there was more to him than that. There just had to be.

He felt a slight pain of guilt as he informed him he had gotten lost. Of course he had gotten lost, the tour really was not the best way to learn the school. he probably could have informed him of the movements of the staircases he had attempted to study... even though no reasonable attempt came out of it. It was as if they had a mind of their own. Still, he was just glad he made it safe and sound, even though he supposed it would be more challenging to not make it somewhere safe.

"They sorta don't stop movin at all. They got no pattern to them either! I still get stuck on em, but you sorta learn what to do. I really shoulda warned you 'bout that part... he remarked, sounding only slightly deflated that he was unable to give him a heads up.

As he rambled about the spells, he could not help but feel a little bit of pride that he was excited about them. The charms really were as exciting as they seemed- at least to him they were. Sure people were disappointed there were specific incantations and such, but he adored the specifics. It made him know there was a set of rules to fall back on while still being able to explore the spell itself.
It was like being a detective in an obscure way.

Still, listening to him ramble was a reflection on how far he had come since the year prior. He recalled the lessons and how much work he put into them, but he had never thought he would look back. It still felt like he was a first year, except of course he was a little less lost than he used to be.

"Already? Must be moving fast! I've always wondered if the dancing feet charm could make someone dance better than they already know how to... I 'aught to try it if I ever get asked out to a dance. he joked. "And if ya know slugs have horns, you're already better at potions than me.

He truly hoped he could impress Maison, or at least figure out the correct wizard science for this. It was important to him to get the answers, but also have a fun time. Ross was one to overthink but never do much about it. He had gone over so many possible ways this could go horrendously wrong in his head, so he had practiced; however, practice did not always make perfect. Sure, he would do his best.

Taking out his wand out of anxiousness of at least hoping he was prepared, he asked the most simple question he could think of to transition himself into this.

"Did ya bring the shoes? he inquired, carefully
