Benevolent Gnomes
Interacting with @Thea Knott @Hjørdis Jensen
“It looks perfect!” Jake said, excitedly admiring the work that Thea had done on her drawing. He held one in his own hands as well. The two were lined up in the courtyard, waiting for the Slytherin Head of House to be led to their spot. They had to wait a while, but Jake was patient, knowing just how important this was.
He hadn’t even known that the Slytherin head of house was FEELING sad, until Professor Browne had told them. But Jake knew what it was like to feel sad, really sad, and it was a horrible awful feeling. He didn’t know what he could do for her, but he knew that sometimes people seemed to cheer up when they saw his drawings. Grown-ups especially seemed to like them. He didn’t know if Professor Jensen was one of those grown-ups, but he had to hope so. Professor Browne had thought it was a good idea, and that was enough for Jake.
It turned out he wasn’t the only young artist that was up for the challenge. Thea had had the exact same idea. Jake knew the older girl from the Hufflepuff common room, she was really nice and a really good artist. They had sat down together to work on the drawings, trying to figure out what Professor Jensen would like. He was proud of what the two of them had accomplished together.
“Look! Here she comes!” Jake said to Thea, holding up his drawing higher. He turned to face the approaching professor, and waited for her to arrive. He really hoped she was gonna like it... He had asked Professor Browne what Professor Jensen’s favorite animal was, and he had told him a runespoor. So that was exactly what he had drawn - a runespoor shaped like a heart to spread a message of love. He had worked very hard to make it special, and it had been drawn with an artist’s touch - each line drawn with care.

OOG: IG, this actually looks like a runespoor. Unfortunately, I do not share Jake's artistic talents
. But since this is OOC love as much as IC love you get my attempt at art. I promise Jake's drawing looks much better! P.S. You are awesome

“It looks perfect!” The Hufflepuff boy that stood next to Thea exclaimed. She looked up at him (which wasn’t easy considering his height) and gave an awkward smile. “Thanks,” she said quickly and quietly, almost in a whispery tone. It was strange having to spend that much more time with another student, even if it was a housemate of hers. Strangely, the only person she talked to on a sort of regular basis didn’t even go to Hogwarts.
She lightly wiped off some last eraser shavings and tilted her head. She smiled, much more genuinely this time though. The witch did actually quite like how it turned out – she hardly ever finished most of her drawings but this was a rather nice change of pace.
Well, she didn’t really have much of a choice. When the head of Hufflepuff informed her and others about how the head of Slytherin feeling down lately, both Thea and the first year boy had a similar idea. The Head of House directed them to draw, and that’s exactly what they’ve been doing.
“Look! Here she comes!” the boy exclaimed again. Thea immediately shot up nervously and picked up her drawing. She made sure her robe wasn’t dirty from sitting on the ground. The Slytherin professor was in fact approaching them. She watched the younger boy give his drawing to the woman – a heart shaped runespoor. The girl then extended the drawing towards the professor, trying to avoid eye contact. She really hoped the woman liked it.

Jake held up his drawing, looking up to see whether Professor Jensen liked it. He hoped she would. But how could anybody not like a drawing of their favorite animal? "These are for you, so you'll feel better..." Jake said, handing it over after it had been inspected.
But he wasn't done there. Jake had one more thing to give. The small first-year walked forward, approaching Professor Jensen and presenting her one of Willow’s friendship bracelets - this one with the letter ‘E’ printed on the bead. He held his palm up towards her, watching as he waited for her to take her prize. “This is for you too,” he said shyly, giving her a small smile.
He maybe didn't know her very well... but he did know that she was very good friends with Professor Browne. And if Professor Browne liked her, then she just couldn't be scary. When she had taken her bracelet, the little boy slipped his hand into hers. "You haveta come with us," he told her. "Your next surprise is at the Greenhouse." He smiled up at her, the smile of someone who knew something she didn't, and pointed the way. There was still a lot in store for her today (and his tasks weren't over just yet). He held her hand and walked towards the next location. What a day she was going to have!

Benevolent Gnomes

Hjørdis ran her hand over her hair, tucking any loose pieces neatly behind her ear and adjusting her clothing as she walked. After the shenanigans in the potions classroom, she felt like she needed to recompose herself a little and adjust. She looked down at the bracelets and notes she was slowly collecting. She was no denying she was curious to see what this was all leading up to and maybe... just a tad bit... excited about it? It was kind of... fun? Odd, definitely. But she was kind of enjoying it.
It was certainly very different, if nothing else. Her normal days were mostly full of work. Right. Work. She probably ought to get back to that... A sigh escaped her. There was a lot to do... She should... But maybe just a bit more? The students were so happy. They had worked so hard to do... whatever this was. She was not entirely sure what they were up to or why they were doing it but it was evident that they had worked hard.
The King, the Huntress and Knight had clearly memorised and rehearsed their story from the basements. The Major and the Lieutenant had a lot of fun playacting it seemed. She walked towards the Courtyard, to see the Benevolent Gnomes, as she was told. The Head of Slytherin pondered who they were and what message they were carrying. Gnomes indicated someone small... She pictured a few that she recalled being very small but there was no way of knowing. There were too many hufflepuffs to be sure.
By now, she was starting to think it was only badgers involved. So far, five of them had been. And she had quite a few more steps to go, it would seem. As she walked closer, she spotted a pair of children holding something up. She stopped as she got closer, her eyes falling onto the pages they were extending out to her. Drawings. Of a Runespoor in a heart and of her with the sword...? Both of them had gone through the effort of creating some artwork for her...
"So you'll feel better..."
The smaller Gnome spoke up to offer them to her. It was the first clue she had gotten to why she was actually on this quest. To feel better. That was the thing about having a blank expressionless face. People assumed that you were emotionless. That you were cold, heartless and scary as a result. That you were always sad - or worse, incapable of feeling happiness. Neither of those things were true, of course. But people assumed them and therefore had no trouble screaming at you or throwing their hate at you because it did not matter. But... She had emotions. She just hide them behind a facade that had taken years to build. A mask that protected her heart. The very heart that right now was in the process of being unmasked. She felt happiness like others did.
Hjørdis took the drawing of the runespoor and the drawing of her from the kind Gnome. The girl avoided eye contact with her, perhaps a little shy - maybe even a little nervous or scared. She crouched down, reaching closer to their height as the taller one was still almost a foot smaller than her with her shoes. "They are beautiful... Both of them, I love them..." She said softly, a smile appearing on her face.
If she let them, she put her arm around each of them and pull them into her a little, giving them both a quick hug. Well... the closest thing to one from her. She did not initiate hugs much, this was most definitely already a step out of her comfort zone. But... they had broken down her walls. All of the badgers so far had. Each of them, in their own way, were breaking her barriers and melting down the ice cold heart that she insisted she had. She swallowed. How were they all so considerate?
Each and every single one of them was utterly ridiculous... and they were amazing for it. She let go after a moment, releasing them from the brief attempt at a hug and recomposed herself. "Thank you..." She said softly as she took the bracelet, with an E on it. Her eyes fell on the drawings. The first was her Runespoor... her patronus, but in a way adorable heart - and definitely not a 'savage of a patronus' like he thought. The second was... This adventure. The Silver Knight of the Snakes, with the sword that was attached to one of the belt loops of her jeans for ease and... Kraken? She thought back to the words of the quest. Kraken. The monster she had to defeat. It was very fitting - and very well thought out.
She swallowed. This whole thing... She laughed softly to herself, shaking her head. It was ridiculous and she was not sure how else to describe it. The tiny Gnome took her hand, causing her to blink and look down at him. "Mhmm, alright, lead the way young padawan," She replied, quirking an eyebrow at that knowing smile of his but making no comment on it.
There was a very good chance she would regret this... but she was going along with it nonetheless. Taking the three bracelets, she loosely attached them to her wrist and put them on - in order. It was loose so that she could remove them if she needed later in the quest. For now, she just needed hands to actually carry the artwork or letters or apparently... to hold hands with the young gnome. With that, she allowed herself to be guided. To the greenhouse they headed, it seemed. Towards those two tricksters, if she recalled correctly.
Well... time to start worrying. They were going to kill her, it seemed. Kill her with kindness and love... That certainly seemed to be the plan of these badgers.
