Errand Tea Leaves & Animals
Alexis stepped into the courtyard in her flowy wrap dress that stopped at her knees and her plain white canvas shoes. Her dress was blush pink colour with light blue floral prints, it flowed slightly as she walks. The sound of her light footsteps caused some of the house elves to stopped their tasks briefly and turned to meet her eyes, they even sent her a big friendly smile, before going back to their duties.
Her light blue gaze was met with a big pair of sparkly green eyes. The big eared creature approached her slowly with a friendly smile on her face, asking if she was here for the Tea leaves & Animal errand, “Are you here for the tea errand, young lady?” She nodded and said, “Yes, I am. Could you please lead me to an available seat?” The house elf nodded and beckoned her to follow.
Alexis settled down into an empty seat at a isolated table in a corner of the courtyard. She quietly said, “Thank you.” and she politely asked the house elf to help bring her the materials needed for her activity today. She kept her eyes focused on the house elf as she walked away to bring her supplies. The creature reminded Alexis of her family’s house elves. Winnie and Milky. Both of them was there with her and her brothers since she could recall, along with few other people she was grateful for like her parents and her governess. The thoughts sometime baffled her, if she was to was to be honest, some house elves seemed to like being, well, house elves. They don’t seemed to mind serving witches and wizards at all, If they were treated nicely and with kindness, that’s it. Especially here at Hogwarts, they seemed happy with their given tasks and roles.
The house elf walked back to Alexis’s table with a big tray in her hands, set it down in front of her and smile brightly, “Here is what you need for the tea. Good luck.” Alexis send the creature one last grateful smile before she walked away and said, “Thank you.”
Alexis gazed down to the tray in front of her, trying to identify which object is which. There were sewing supplies, various size of needles, embroidery threads, scissors, multiple colours of construction paper and, the most important item of all, the filter papers. Her eyes darted to a small wooden boxes contained her requested tea ingredients; chamomile, honeybush, honey and vanilla flavor. Beside the boxes was a set of ceramic tea cup, a spoon, a saucer and a teapot, the house elf probably casted a heat spell to keep it hot because she could see light smoke floating out of it. Her delicate hand carefully reached out to inspect the pearly white tea cup with gold outline at the rim. I should ask mother to buy by one of these design, it’s so pretty.
The raven haired girl started to hum the tune of Giselle; Act I - Pas Seul as she carefully picked up the filter papers and a scissors to cat them into the shapes she needed; a cat head, its body, a shirt, a cloak and a witch hat. She made two of each of them so she could sew them together. She giggled at her design’s slight irony, she was a witch making a witch cat tea bag? With the cloak and hat too. She picked to white thread to match with the papers and started to sew the front and back together, reminding herself the leave a gap for the tea ingredients later.
Next, she chose light brown construction paper and crave it into a shape of a broom for the tag. Then she proceed to sew it to the tea bag. Huh... That was quick. Not that quick, it did took sometime when she had to carefully sewn the thin paper, but quicker than she had expected it to be for sure.
Alexis’s hand picked up the handmade tea bag by its broom tag. She watched it dangling from her finger in the air in front of her face. Now it looks like... Levitating cat? She smile lightly at her own lame joke, then just shook her head. That’s not even a funny joke. Her slim fingers reached out to grasp the saucer with a tea cup and place it in front of herself. She put her newly finished kitten tea bag into the cup before reaching out again to life the teapot up by its handle. She poured the steaming water directly onto the teabag and set it down.
Alexis watched in amazement as the little kitten started to come to life. The kitten slowly stretched its limps one by one as if it was just awaken from a fifteen minutes nap. The girl’s smile widen when she saw the kitten wagged its tiny little tail left to right. She watched it dance around in her small cup, kind of looked similar to swimming or even floating. To Alexis, this little kitten looked so happy and alive, she almost felt sorry for pouring hot water onto it. It’s practically radiating happiness.
“Maybe I should name you, what do you think?” she whispered. The kitten slowed its movement down for a split second to meet her eyes, as if it understood what she just said, before returning to it’s little dance. “How about... how about ‘Delicia’? the girl pause rethinking the name. Delicia has Latin origin, added the witchy vibes. Most importantly, it meant delight! She nodded, “Let’s go with Delicia... She watched it Delicia spun around in circle, “Definitely, Delicia.”
After a minute or two the kitten slowed her movement and slowly came to a stop, back to a lifeless tea bag. The tea must be cool enough to drink now. “Bye Delicia.”
Alexis finally lifted the cup up to her nose. Her eyes fluttered shut as she inhaled the sweet smell of vanilla, honey and chamomile mixed together into a relaxing scent. The scent reminded her of home, she smiled. I should do this more often. She didn’t really have a chance to just relax and sip a cup of tea since she came to Hogwarts, now she just wished she brought a book with her too.
