The third was outside in the Courtyard, flopped onto his stomach with Tiger prancing around in the high grass around him. The grass would give under below his soft paws, pressed down by the majestic cats weight as it explored the near surroundings. Alan's chin propped onto his forearms he watched the little rascal waddle around with an amused smile curling at his lips. He loved his cat and couldn't be happier to have him. Tiger was special with his vibrant blue eyes that seemed to carry the summer sky in them and his distinguishable fur pattern that made him stand out from the patch of meadow he was investigating with upmost curiosity.

"Tiger~", Alan would call, his voice soft and barely audible at all, but the cats ears perked up before the young cat began to waddle over. His snoot pressed against the third years hands, as if looking for a treat, making the Gryffindor chuckle as he shifted his weight to free one of his hands that had been tucked below his chin. He began patting the cats soft fur, enjoying the relaxing afternoon in the hopes that it would stay this calm. Alan would not mind meeting anyone new, but he would not go out of his way to greet any of the students that were lounging around. For now the third year was mainly focused on giving the Bengal kitten some attention and praise as he ran his fingers through its soft fur. Well he was no actual kitten anymore, but he certainly never stopped acting like one.

A mild breeze picked up Rivers curls as she sat in the grass out in the courtyard. She had some time off from, well everything, and that called for a break outside in the fresh spring air. She hadn’t brought anything to do for the afternoon. Her plan had been to go outside and watch relax for a bit, just let her mind wander into areas of the universe she couldn’t even imagine existed. She’d been having some issues with the sun previously, and it wasn’t hard to notice as her nose and cheeks were turning a fiery red, almost matching her hair at this point. She’d packed on a whole bunch of sunscreen in hopes of blocking out the sun rays a little more, but for now she was alright sitting in the shade.
A little red owl was hopping around on the shoulders of the ravenclaw. He was apparently not feeling like a break was needed. He fluttered down to the ground next to River and his little legs danced around the green grass. Hoot was a little bird with big amounts of energy, that was for sure, and he’d usually have trouble staying still for more than ten minutes.

Suddenly, the little owl hopped up and took off in a hurry. River got up and looked after him, wondering what in the world he could have laid eyes upon now. One thing to know about Sir Little-Hoot, is that you should not be fooled by his tiny wings, because he’s got speed.
Rivers eyes squinted, trying to spot his destination throughout the bright sun. He didn’t fly too far, and as soon as he stopped, River knew exactly what had caused him to take off. A cat…
Sir Little-Hoot had some history with cats. And he had, through a series of events, gone from being terrified of every cat he came upon, to flying after every cat he saw to say hello. That happened very often around here considering how many people owned cats here at Hogwarts. Also, it was quite stupid, as he was a small bird, and cats are known to run after small birds.
«God damn it Hoot» River muttered as she began heading in the direction of the cat and whoever were next to them. She wasn’t too far away when she saw that the owl had landed a little away from the two, and was now walking up to where they were sitting. «Hoot, get back here!», River called out, but Hoot didn’t listen, he had decided he was going to say hello to that cat.

"Hoot, get back here!" echoed through his head and Alan opened his eyes idly, when he heard the exclamation from a vaguely familiar voice. With a sigh he gently pushed himself off the ground to glance around, trying to find out who was disturbing this peaceful quiet that one rarely got to enjoy at this school. He was not particularly bothered by it, rather curious instead his eyes caught sight of a rather small owl with a coppery feather coat.

The owls destination was clear as the small predator got closer and closer to Tiger who was hunting after a butterfly, trying to catch the beautifully winged bug with outstretched paws. Only to be startled by the shadow of a flying owl swooping through the air. Instinctively the tomcat would strut over to the newly found playmate, before crouching down in the grass, getting ready to pounce. Alan would watch on carefully, but he knew the bird of prey was in now danger as the cat idly pounced towards the owl only to land about a feet away from it. It did not stop there, the energetic kitten would jump circles around the feathery alien, before finally finding the courage to stalk closer and sniff the strange animal. The only owl Tiger had actually seen was Ivy and Cadmus, even though Alan wouldn't dare let the latter close to the curious cat as he would probably peck at him in annoyance. He did not want the two to fight, so keeping them separate seemed like the best solution whenever he got a letter from George... or Jake, lately.

"D-Don't worry, River, he's just c-curious", he called over to the approaching girl, in case she had been indeed worrying that Tiger could harm her owl, Hoot, if he had heard correctly. He hoped she would see it his way and perhaps the two of them could sit down as their pets got accustomed to each other.

River slowed to a halt as she watched in terror the little owl approach the cat. Who knows what this situation could come to, Hoot was tiny compared to the cat, and if the cat was to become aggressive then he would be a simple meal. To Rivers surprise, and great relief, the cat seemed… playful. Or curious, but at least not aggressive as far as the ravenclaw could understand. She kept a careful eye on them, before a voice caught her attention, causing her to look away for a moment. It was Alan, the boy who had hosted the tug of war game that previous day. River smiled relieved as she noticed the boy, she realized he must have been the owner of the cat. River looked back at the two animals dancing about each other, Hoot was hopping around on his little feet.

The redhead walked slowly up to where Alan was seated on the ground, “Hey Alan”, she said and sat down too. She didn’t think to ask if it was alright, her mind was too busy watching the owl flutter about excitedly. They seemed to be getting along fine. “Yeah, I guess they’re good. I assume it’s your cat?”, she said as a late response to Alans previous statement. River relaxed a little as she noticed there didn't seem to be any immediate danger, but she'd still send occasional glances in their direction.

Hoot had a history of getting into trouble, specifically with cats for some reason. He would fly after them through halls and corridors to interact with them. One time he'd flown after a particularly large cat and didn’t look back for River before the feline was literally on top of the little bird. After that it had been stressful enough to bring the speedy little guy anywhere.

The third year nodded as the girl decided to step closer, a soft smile plastered onto his face. "Y-Yeah, the n-name is Tiger, h-he is a Bengal, but I th-think he is also part K-Kneazle because h-he is very s-smart", he explained to the girl with a chuckle. After paying the thought a few seconds of consideration, he sat down onto one of the benches in the courtyard and motioned for River to do the same in case she was free to spend some time with him and get acquainted. "Y-You're not b-busy, right?", he wondered out loud, just in case. Perhaps she had been on her way to the owlery to send off a letter for all he knew. After all she was hanging out with her owl. Alan had not much experience with taking care of birds, but he knew that Cadmus liked the treats he always bought for the feathery creature. However George seemed to be overfeeding the owl, since all the crackers seemed to be used up quite quickly!

Perhaps he should just get a full box of them on his next trip to Hogsmeade, whenever that might be. But he would need to remind him that Cadmus couldn't get too many of them. He wouldn't want the owl to get an upset stomach from getting too many of those. Or perhaps George was feeding the other owls as well? Whatever the reason was, it was a little mystery and Alan wouldn't get further than that if he did not speak to the Hufflepuff.

Relaxing a little more after talking to Alan, River sighed relieved as the owl and the cat continued their adventure. Tiger was indeed a fitting name for the cat, River assumed Alan had probably heard Hoots name from her calling after him earlier.
The young ravenclaw looked around to see if anyone else had been disturbed by her distress, no one seemed bothered at far as she noticed. «Kneazles are pretty cool», she responded to his mention of the cat-like creatures. They were particularly adorable with their little puffy tails and large ears. River had read a bunch about them previously.

The redhead followed up and sat down on the bench next to Alan. "Y-You're not b-busy, right?", he asked. «Oh, no not at all», she answered and pushed a red curl behind her ear. «I just came out here for some air, nothing special in particular», she added and looked out over the courtyard. «what about you?, she asked and glanced back at the boy. «Up to any exciting plans?».
There wasn’t many days River had the time to actually take a break and relax these days. Her mind was too occupied with everything going on, generally at Hogwarts, or just in her personal life. Add all that on top of school work, and finding a moment of peace could become challenging.

The third year smiled softly, happy that the girl shared his sentiment. "Th-They are! Th-They are e-extremely s-smart", he explained with bright shining eyes that caught the spring sun within them. He could talk about this some more but he honestly did not want to bore the other student with this boring talk. Well it was not boring to himself, but surely could be for other students.

N-Not really, j-just here to enjoy th-the aftern-noon", he explained softly as his gaze drifted over to their pets who were strolling around in the grass. Alan was happy that Tiger found a friend now, even from another species. "You a-are in S.W.A.G, r-right? I s-saw y-you join th-those games", he mentioned as he tried to approach a topic they could talk and bond over. He was taking the easy route with this, but he honestly nothing about the girl in front of him. He basically had little choice but to approach a topic the two of them could safely talk about. They had that connection, it would be stupid not to use it to make their conversation more interesting.

Alan was glad that he had joined the club, but was even more glad to know how many nice people were in that club. He had gained some acquaintances and friends through the club and was quite grateful for that.

Rose was just going to take a walk
on the grounds. She really needed some fresh air and time to think. Well, to be fair, she needed that often, but especially today. There was something inside her that screamed for introverted time. She needed something to make her smile, as well. Then she saw a cat and an owl, curiously looking at each other. In the back of her mind, she thought they must be someone's pets, but she watched them happily, getting lost in thought. She really wanted a pet, but they were so expensive and she didn't have one yet. But she was saving up. She wasn't sure which pet she would get, if she ever saved up enough money to get one.
Her breath caught as she saw two students there. It must have been their pets and she had been staring at them, oblivious to her surroundings. Plus, they were definitely older than her, at least second years, the both of them. Rapidly blushing deeply, Rose's emerald gaze fell and she said sincerely and apologetically, "Oh, I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to intrude on anything... Um, excuse me." She felt horrible for butting in on their conversation.

There was nothing nicer than sitting outside for some fresh air and a nice conversation with someone you have yet to really get to know. Well, at least River felt like that was a particularly splendid way to spend a day. Not that she had much time to actually do that though, she was well in over her head in homework and classes most of the time. Now and then though, some time off is crucial to actually doing well while studying.
Alan seemed quite interested in animals. Or at least as far as River knew, he was interested in kneazles, which was understandable. Who are not to adore those intelligent creatures. Perhaps Alan was right about Tiger, he seemed quite intelligent himself, to not pounce at the small owl the second he laid his cat-eyes upon Hoot.
River was happy to hear Alan too was just out for some time off. He asked about the SWAG club, and River’s eyes glinted slightly as he mentioned it, “Yup, that is right”, she answered him and smiled. She had almost forgotten they were both in the same club. Or not really, but there were many faces and many names to keep up with, and sometimes everything got a little mixed up. Those games were really something she enjoyed being a part of. It was a nice way to get some activity, and most of all, to meet new people of course. That was probably the biggest reason she’d joined in the first place. “Personally I had so much fun during the first game when we got to fly our brooms”, she said to him and thought back to the first ever meeting of the club. She could vividly feel the anticipation and slight nervous energy of attending the first game, though it ended well. “What about you? What game have you enjoyed the most so far?”, she asked Alan. River couldn’t remember if Alan was in the first game, she didn’t remember seeing him there.
Listening to Alan, River saw a girl standing by and quietly watching the little tiger and owl hopping around on the grass. The ravenclaw wondered if she’d planned to just stand there or what she would do, and her question was answered soon after as the girl spoke up.
The unfamiliar girl’s gaze fell to the ground, “Oh no worries, you didn’t intrude”, River said as she looked to her. She tried her very best to sound reassuring, but in reality, River was not known for being very good at such. “I’m River”, she introduced herself quickly with a careful smile on her pale and slightly sunburned face.

"Wh-What was th-the f-first game?", he wondered as he glanced at the girl in wonder. He had not been part of the club for that game or if he was then he could not remember ever getting notice of a game with brooms. Perhaps it was better that way, because he was bad at flying and a little scared too. Luckily Neculai once helped him a little with that by explaining him a little about flying. But he was also told that his broom was no good, so now Alan could not even practice how to fly.

"I l-liked th-the recent o-one, b-but it was a l-little violent," he explained and shudders run through him when he remembered his first game. It started out great but quickly turned into a disaster by the end. He wish he could have prevented what happened to Neculai that day, he felt bad for the Ravenclaw.

Another girl joined them and the third year smiled gently at her. "H-Hi a-and I'm Alan, y-you can sit d-down w-with us if you w-want to," he offered to the unfamiliar face. The bench would be big enough for the three of them so hat should be no problem at all. He was always happy to get to know someone new.
