Between Two Worlds
The start of February was still not completely Spring yet, but the Courtyard was no longer covered in the snow anymore and more students started to hang out in the courtyard. The Gryffindor Prefect was one of those students, who finally had some free time to get some fresh air outside of the castle. She decided to read the book her uncle gave her as a Christmas Gift, a book about the Dragons written by one of his friends who was a Dragonologist. Even though Griseldis wasn't a third-year student yet and needed to wait for next semester to attend the Care of Magical Creatures class. But there was no harm learning about the Magical Creatures such as Dragons before the lessons anyway.
When Griseldis arrived at the courtyard, she first looked around and luckily, there weren't many people there, only a small group of three students were playing Gobstones together in the corner. Griseldis could hear birds chirping somewhere above the cloudless blue sky and the calming noise of the water fountain right in the middle in the heart of the Courtyard. The whole area was so peaceful it made her felt very relax, it had been a while now and couldn't recall the last time she was relax ever since she became a Prefect and Quidditch player. It was always patrolling and Quidditch pratices most of the time. This place was indeed a perfect place to read a book in her opinion, way better than reading in a library because the air inside was a bit dusty and hard to enjoy.
Griseldis decided to take a sit on the marble seat by the water fountain, leaning her back on the winged creature shaped like statue. She lifted the book up from her lap to her eyes's level, it showed the title of the book that was written on the cover, "The Untold Tales of Dragons". She opened the book and flipped a few pages then began to read the first chapter quietly.

"Us tha' a goo' book yer readin'? AJ asked the girl sitting alone. His thick Scottish accent likely making the words hard to discern for someone unused to the accent. He gently peeked at the cover of the book. "Oh! Draguns and such like? Use teh rea' aboot thum back home." He explained, of course, the books he had read were pure children's fiction, tales of St. George and the like.
It was only then that AJ realised he was being quite rude, interrupting this girl with casual conversation when she was just trying to relax and read a book. "Ah, sorreh..." He apologised awkwardly, scratching the back of his neck. "Am a bi' slow an the uptake sometimes..." He chuckled slightly. "Didnae mean teh disturb yeh, am jus' stull a bi' overwhulmed wit' thus whool wizard thung." He realised he was still talking, still disturbing her, but for whatever reason he was unable stop himself. He noticed her tie.
"Yer a Gryffindoor? Aye thas good, so am I. I doon rully know munny oother students yet." It was only then that he noticed that not only had he disturbed this girl, asked her questions about a book she had clearly only just started and then rambled on about his school life that he hadn't even expressed the courtesy of introducing himself. "Aye please foorguv me, mooth gits aheed of me breen." He apologised. "Jus' treeyin' to be soocial."
He realised that he still had yet to give her a name. "Sorreh, AJ MacAllister, at yer seervice." He extended his hand, awaiting the impending 'please go away.'
[Note: I'm not dyslexic, just trying to type with a Scottish accent, if it's impossible to read let me know and I'll change it.]

Griseldis just started to read the first chapter of the book then all of a sudden, she heard a young boy's voice with very thick Scottish accent greeted her. "Woah!?", she let out a small yelp and almost jumped from her spot. Her book also was about the slip form her hands. Well, thankfully it was just a tiny startle so she was able to react quickly and "saved" the book from falling in the fountain that was still filled with water, it wouldn't be fun to have a wet book after all.Interacting with @Allister-Jameson MacAllister
She let out a relieved sigh, then looked up to see who the boy was. And to her surprise, it was one of her fellow Housemates. Griseldis did have very good memories and this semester, not many students were sorted to their Gryffindor House, which was a shame. Most of the new first-year students were either Hufflepuffs or Ravenclaws, so she remembered this particular boy how he got sorted by the hat during the Sorting Ceremony at the Great Hall.
The young Gryffindor looked quite pale, he had very messy, curly brown hair with deep blue eyes. Even though Griseldis wasn't Scottish but she was still able to understand what the boy was saying, she had a few Scottish friends after all and listened to their accent very often. He first asked her what she was reading but he seemed to immediately figure it out that it was about Dragons before she could reply to him. Then perhaps the boy realized that he kind of disturbed her (not that she would mind) and apologized to her. He sure loves to ramble a lot but at least he has good manners, Griseldis thought. She gently placed the book on her lap and continued to listen to the Scottish boy's nonstop rambling. He mentioned to her that he was still overwhelming with the whole wizarding thing, this gave away the information to Griseldis that the boy could be a Muggle-born or a Half-blood like her. "You did startle me a bit but it's totally fine, I don't mind. And correct, I'm reading about the untold tales of mythical dragons, one of my uncle's friend who works as a dragonologist wrote this book and now it's one of the bestselling books. I'm sure you can purchase the book at Flourish and Blotts Bookshop in Diagon Alley.", Grisedlis said with a smile and gave him a nod of agreement, "Indeed, it's really great to meet another fellow Gryffindor. But hey, there's nothing wrong wanting to be social."
The Scottish boy finally introduced himself to Griseldis as AJ MacAllister and extended his hand to her. Without any hesitation, she gladly accepted his handshake. "It's a pleasure to meet you, AJ. I'm Griseldis Edelhardt but you can just call me Gris. Second-year and Prefect of Gryffindor. Anyway, since you're also interested to know about the dragons, would you like to read the book with me or you're busy?" Griseldis invited AJ to join her reading the book together and awaited for him to answer.
OOC: Sorry for the long wait, I've been really busy lately and don't worry, I know you're not dyslexic ;-)

AJ was happy to see that the girl was unperturbed by his awkward attempts at conversation. She didn't seem that much older than him physically but certainly had a maturity that informed him that she was more than a mere first year. It was then that she informed him that she was a 'Prefect' of his house. "Aye right right, thas ah...thas, yur leek tha hoos police beesically?" He offered that as his past description of what her job entailed. He had of course been informed of what a Prefect was and was even pretty sure he recognised the girl now that she mentioned it, but he often struggled to put things into the correct words. "Theer wasneh so meeny Gruffindoor's thus year wus there?" He asked her for clarification. "Bet ull tha oother first yeer's are mighty disappoin'ed." He jokes. AJ was aware that house pride was very important to Hogwarts, he had been trying to instill the Lion's roar in his soul, and he was getting better at it.
It was strange to think about that night all these months later. He knew more and more every day about Hogwarts and the wizarding world at large and yet he still felt like the new kid, and like he didn't belong. As if everyone else here was a wizard tried and true and he was nothing more than a muggle playing pretend. He always did his best not to dwell on it but sometimes it made him feel uneasy. The sorting night had been especially rough, the one friend he'd made had been put in Ravenclaw and he'd struggled to really get any conversation going with any of his housemates. The upper years had done their best to make him feel welcome, which was appreciated. However, there were so few new first years that it was difficult to form any sort of unity or cohesion. It had gotten better over the months though.
"Greesuldis... He seemed to roll the name around on his tongue, it was evident that he would struggle to pronounce it as 'Gris' managing only 'Grees' on his few attempts. "Am sorry, ut's nay so easy fer meh tuh do tha 'eis' soond." She could probably tell that he was attempting an 'is' with that statement, but it still came out as an 'ee' sound.
"Oh no am nay beesy." He explained quickly. "I've steel goot a whiel tull me nuxt cless." He gestured for her to sit back down and he would take a seat next to her. "Am unterested in lurning moor aboot ull thus stuff. U've neever been too good ut reedin' I cannae hulp but fidge'. Meebee ut's nay so bad wuth a freend though." He said with a gentle smile, shifting slightly closer so that he could see the pages. "Soo whut's yer favoorite druggen?" He would ask curiously as they slowly flipped through the pages.

It was kinda funny to describe the Prefects as being the police but in a sense, it was indeed similar in a way since their duties were to patrol the whole castle of Hogwarts day and night. And when he mentioned that there weren't many Gryffindor this year, she could only give him a small smile with a nod. Normally most Gryffindors would be quite disappointed for not getting more new lion cubs into their House while the other two Houses, Hufflepuff being the first and second was the Ravenclaw getting the most student this semester but as an Optimist, Gris just thought that it only showed how rare it could be to have the personality traits to qualify as a true Gryffindor. She often heard from wise people saying "quality over quantity", but she wasn't thinking that Gryffindor was the best House, Griseldis was very proud of her own House, sure. However, each House had its own quirks and brilliance. No matter which House everyone was special in their own way.Interacting with @Allister-Jameson MacAllister
Now that Griseldis had a better look at the Scottish boy, he seemed like a normal kid still trying to get used to the lifestyle of the Wizarding World. He could be either a Muggle-born or a Half-blood like her but she wouldn't prey and rather let the person tell her themselves. After the introduction, AJ tried to pronounce her name but it ended up sounding like "Greesuldis" and when he changed to pronounced her shorter version of a name, it sounded like "Grees". He quickly apologized to her for not able to call her name properly but Griseldis understood why, "Don't worry about it, I know it was because of your accent but to me, it still sounds close so you can call me Grees, I really don't mind." When AJ explained to her that he had time before the next class would begin, so he decided to spend a bit of time with her and took a seat beside her. She then moved the book a little to the middle and allowed AJ to hold the other cover so they could read the book together. The curious Scottish boy asked the Prefect what her favorite dragon. "My favorite dragon? Hmm...", Griseldis thought for a brief moment then flipped a few pages until a picture of a red and gold dragon that was shooting fire through its nostrils showed up.
"I kinda like this dragon, they were called the Fireball, also known as the Lion Dragon. The Fireballs are native to China. They aren't friendly, of course, but I just really like how powerful and majestic they are. My father told me once that this dragon was used as one of the obstacles in the First Task of the Triwizard Tournament in 1994, brought to Hogwarts by Charles Weasley before." Griseldis said to AJ and pointed at the picture of the Chinese Fireball. Then she looked up at the young Scottish lion, asked him a similar question, "And what about you, AJ? Which dragon do you like the most?", while waiting for him to tell her, she wondered if it would be a Scottish Dragon he liked or not, that would certainly be interesting.

Interacting with @Griseldis EdelhardtIt took a few moments for AJ to shuffle himself into a comfortable position where he wasn't also obstructing his reading partner. Eventually though he got the other cover in his hand and began to look over the pages with his newfound friend. She flipped a few pages in and showed a majestic looking red dragon which immediately caught his eye. He began studying that patterns of the scales and the proud position the beast held itself in, even if it was just a picture. "Thas' vurry cool." He said quietly, eyes transfixed on the page. "I'd love ta' see one up cloos one dee." He commented, looking over at her.
Soon enough though she turned the question back on to him and he spent a few moments thinking about the few different types of Dragons he had looked at. "W-wull ah havnae been teh tha leebrurry much bu' I 'ave 'ad eh look at some." He slowly moved his hand over to the page, waiting for her to approve or deny his touching of them before continuing, only doing so if she allowed him to.
"Lut's see..." He mumbled, flicking through the pages until he found his target. "Ah thus one! Untypodean Oopalee." He told her, tapping on the picture excitedly.
"These are dufuniteleh me favourite! Theer Osstreelian, an' absulutely huge! Aboot forteh feet or moor!" He explained, passion evident in his ocean blue eyes. "Ta see one proper woo' be a real treat." He remarked with a happy sigh.
"S-sorreh, you prolly didnae wannae here meh ramble 'boot meh druggen pruferunces. Yeh jus' wanted teh read." He apologised with a slightly nervous chuckle, returning to scanning the pages with her in silence if that's how she wanted things to be.

The young Scottish boy found the dragon she told him about was very cool, she couldn't help but smile proudly. "The Fireball Dragons are wicked, yes, but...I wouldn't want to encounter one too close without any experts around. They are still quite dangerous and not so friendly at all." Griseldis said when he mentioned that he would like to see one up close. Then she noticed how AJ looked very intrigued when he looked at the pictures of the Dragons.Interacting with @Allister-Jameson MacAllister
After Griseldis told AJ which Dragon she liked the most, out of curiosity, she also asked him what kind of Dragon he liked. She patiently waited for him to think about it. Although. it only took the Scottish boy a brief moment of thinking, and despite his thick Scottish accent, Griseldis still managed to understand what he just told her, saying about not visiting the library that often but did read some books about it. Noticing his hand moved to the end of the page, Griseldis assumed he wanted to turn to the next page so she simply gave him an approval nod with a genuine smile.
Griseldis watched as AJ began to flick through the pages, he seemed to try finding a certain page and finally, the young cub stopped and tapped excitingly on a picture that showed a pearly white Dragon. "Wow...", she let out a soft gasp of surprise, "An Antipodean Opaleye...I have to say, AJ...you have a really good eye for beautiful Dragons, this one looks very majestic." Compare to the Fireballs, the Antipodean Opaleyes are less aggressive unless they feel threatened. Just when she was enjoying listening to AJ speaking about the Dragon he liked with such huge excitement, but all of a sudden as if he realized something he immediately changed to his shy nature and apologized to her. Not sure why he assumed that she didn't want to hear him further about the Antipodean Opaleye, she quickly reassured him, "Hey now, I didn't say anything about not wanting to listen to you talking about it. However...I have a feeling you seem to really like...really REALLY like Dragons, even more than me. Do you perhaps thought about wanting to become a Dragonologist in the future?", Griseldis asked.

"Druggunullugist...leek someone tha' studies drugguns?" He asked her, seeking clarification on the word she just used as his mind pondered the possibilities. "Weet thas a theng yeh can be?" He asked her, a tone of disbelief in his voice as his clear blue eyes stared into hers. "Wull...wull I mean aye I'd love teh do stuff leek tha' buh av nuvver even seen one up cloos bufoor. Ah don't then I'd have unny idea wha' ah wus dooin'." Even as he made these excuses, he couldn't escape the fantasy, imagining himself caring for and befriending the noble beasts, perhaps even riding on the back of one as it soared through the air.
"Yeh, yeh seed yer ehm...yer Ooncle's frien' us a Druggenullugist reeght?" He confirmed with her, a statement that she had made earlier in their conversation. "Does he tull yeh much aboot ut? Wha' keenda thengs he does fer unstance?" He asked the prefect, curiosity burning in his eyes as he desired to know more. It seemed she touched upon a subject of great interest for the starry-eyed first year. His prior shyness seemed to have been burnt away by his passion for the topic of the large winged reptiles.
Griseldis was paying the price for reading a book in public, now she was going to have to chat about it.
