What had the Sorting Hat said about her? "Hmmph. You're Marie spawn." Abella Marie, a pureblood, was the pride and joy of her parents, proud wife of a war veteran, and had a beautiful daughter who grew up educated, worldly, and polite. That's what everyone said- that Abella Marie the picture of wizarding perfection; able to stand out just enough to become special, but not too much that she was abnormal. Able to integrate with Muggles seamlessly, so much so she worked with their technology.
And Abella's daughter? Well, that was Ami. And according to the Sorting Hat, she was nothing like her mother. So she was a disappointment.
Strolling through the Trophy Room, Ami froze, and stopped at a display case that caught her attention- Charms Comp. First Place, it said, on a silver plaque, and underneath it, Abella Marie, Slytherin Head Girl. Another one, next to it- Transfiguration Comp. First Place, with once again, Abella Marie, Slytherin Head Girl written under it.
Ami sighed in mild annoyance. Her mother was just too perfect for her own good. There was no way Ami would be able to fill the massive shoes her mother had left here at Hogwarts.
Behind her, someone sneezed. Ami screamed, stumbling forward into the display case, shattering the glass, and knocking her mother's plaques to the ground.

Lucy was slowly ambling through the Trophy Room, killing time before class. She liked to see all of the awards that people had won. Her own family didn't have a legacy here, so she didn't feel any particular attachment to this room. She simply hadn't explored it yet. Suddenly, Lucy heard an enormous cacophony and spun on her heel, watching another Hufflepuff girl crash into the display case of awards. The glass had shattered, so it crunched under her shoes as she rushed forward, large robes flowing behind her.
"Oh my gosh!" she cried, grabbing the girl by the elbow. "That was so loud! Are you okay? Oh, I bet you're bleeding. Look at all this glass," Lucy paused, taking in a gasping breath. "What in the world happened?"
She tried to stabilise the girl while sweeping the glass into a pile with the side of her shoe. She had forgotten to check for blood on the girl, getting more preoccupied with the fact that someone could get hurt if they happened to walk by and slip and fall. She had never known anyone to slip and fall on glass, but it could happen today, and it would be terrible! She had only created a little pile when she realised that she was still holding on to the girl's arm. This brought her attention back to Ami.
She studied the girl who had fallen into the display case. While Lucy wasn't an incredibly dexterous girl herself, she had not yet broken a display case. You're just lucky. She's probably totally embarrassed! Lucy chided herself. She stepped away from the girl and offered a grin. "I'll help you clean this up, but you have to tell me how this happened in the first place."

Amadea was lost again. Hogwarts was so big; she wished she had a map so she knew where she was headed. Somehow, she had found her way into the trophy room. She had never been here before. Looking around at all of the awards almost intimidated her; legacies were in here. She wondered if her great grandmother was featured here and was about to start looking for her name when a loud crash startled her. She turned around to see two girls standing in the middle of the room, shattered glass scattered everywhere. Plaques were scattered about the room as well. Amadea bent down and picked up a plaque that had fallen next to her feet. It read Abella Marie in huge gold letters. Amadea realized she probably shouldn't touch the plaques, but it was too late now. She slowly walked over to where the two girls were standing and held out the plaque.
"Here," she said, handing it over. "Do you need any help cleaning this all up? It looks like it will take a while." She gestured to all of the fallen glass. "Be careful not to cut yourself. The glass is quite sharp." She offered a smile to the girls, hoping that she wasn't intruding on whatever conversation they were having.

"Oh my gosh!" A girl (A Hufflepuff, Ami subconsciously registered) cried, grabbing Ami by the elbow. "That was so loud! Are you okay? Oh, I bet you're bleeding. Look at all this glass; what in the world happened?" Ami trembled, still slightly in shock. Her arms were covered in a million tiny cuts, but she managed to tear her gaze away from that, and looked at the plaque on the floor, so close to her. Abella Marie. "I'll help you clean this up, but you have to tell me how this happened in the first place."
"I- um..." Ami said slowly, still trying to come to terms with what happened. A second girl came over, saying, "Here." She handed the plaque to Ami, and she took it, numb. "Do you need any help cleaning this all up? It looks like it will take a while." She gestured to all of the fallen glass. "Be careful not to cut yourself. The glass is quite sharp."
"I... uh," Ami repeated, still trying to collect herself. "I thought I heard someone sneeze- scared me. I just tripped, clumsy little me." She tried for a laugh, but then realized it sounded pretty awkward. "Th- thank you for helping me," Ami said, setting the plaque down on the now-ruined trophy case.

"Well, some sneezes can be quite scary!" Lucy chirped brightly, turning to smile at the other girl. Though they were apparently both in her house, she swore that she had never seen them before. Excellent. She loved to make new friends. Her mouth twisted slightly. This scenario wasn't ideal for happy first memories, but it would have to do. She went into action mode.
"Okay, well, let's step over here so none of us are standing on the glass. Then we can devise a plan to clean it up. I'm sure that this incident won't be as bad if we take responsibility and clean it up! I hope we don't lose house points for it, anyway. It was an accident, after all."
Lucy linked arms with Ami, not noticing the plethora of tiny cuts from the shards of glass on her arms. She turned and offered her arm to the other girl as well. "This is a silly way to meet, but my name is Lucy. I haven't seen you guys before, but I guess we're in the same house. I didn't know that was possible at this point in the year, but I'm not usually in the common room, so that might explain it." She shrugged, prattling on, not noticing that Ami was visibly shaken or Amadea's initial uncertainty. Lucy didn't have the best observation skills, but she was good at being decisive and jumping into action.
She tugged lightly on Ami's arm, hoping to guide their little group out of the glass field that crunched and crackled underfoot almost musically. Her mind was already racing forward, trying to figure out the best way to clean up such small particles of glass.

Amadea nodded as the other girl spoke. "Okay, well, let's step over here so none of us are standing on the glass. Then we can devise a plan to clean it up. I'm sure that this incident won't be as bad if we take responsibility and clean it up! I hope we don't lose house points for it, anyway. It was an accident, after all," she had said. Amadea nodded in agreement and followed as the girls navigated their way outside of the area scattered with broken glass.
"I'm Amadea," she introduced herself as they walked. "Yes, it appears that we're all Hufflepuffs. I don't spend much time in the common room either," she added. "I find myself quite busy with classes or I love just exploring everything that Hogwarts has to offer." Amadea was glad that Lucy knew what she was doing and had taken control of this cleanup. Amadea herself wasn't confident enough to do that. Once they were in the clear from glass, she turned to the other girls.
"Now what should we do about this mess?" she asked. She tried to think of something that was a quick and easy cleanup. They could use magic, or try to use magic, but that probably wouldn't be the best idea since they were only first years. They could clean it up by hand but that would take a while and glass would probably get stuck in their skin. Or they could get some help. They would probably have to tell some authority figure about it so they could make a new display case, right? Amadea voiced these thoughts to the girls and then waited for their input.

"Well, some sneezes can be quite scary!" Lucy said, but Ami thought there was something fishy about it. Clearly, Lucy and Amadea hadn’t been the ones who sneezed- Amadea had come after Lucy, and Lucy hadn’t apologized for sneezing, so she wasn’t the one who sneezed. So, if they didn’t, and Ami didn’t, who sneezed?
"Okay, well, let's step over here so none of us are standing on the glass. Then we can devise a plan to clean it up. I'm sure that this incident won't be as bad if we take responsibility and clean it up! I hope we don't lose house points for it, anyway. It was an accident, after all." Ami paled at the thought of losing house points, as she hadn’t earned any at all yet. What if Hufflepuff lost the house cup because of her stupid mistake? Ami started to tremble, her already severe anxiety getting ramped up even more from the fear of punishment. “It was an accident,” Ami repeated desperately, in a daze.

Ami rubbed her arms, telling herself to wake up, wake up, these girls are talking to you, pay attention. “Lucy, and Amadea,” she repeated. “I’m Ami. Kind of a mid-year transfer. There were some issues when I was trying to move here, hashing out citizenship, visas, green cards, that sort of thing. A pleasure to meet you,” she said quietly, kicking at the glass. Bending down, she carefully picked one of the larger shards up, and examined it in the light. “Sheet glass,” she said quietly. “They should’ve used tempered. Doesn’t break as easily.”

I have a proposition - let's attempt to use magic to fix the trophy case (first years learn the Mending Charm, according to this link), but leave it up to dice to see if we succeed. If you have made character stats, you can kind of base it off of that. For example, Lucy has 7 control, 6 accuracy, and 5 arcane power. So, she's moderately likely to succeed (control), but maybe not do big jobs at once (power). So I'm going to say that for Lucy, she needs to roll at least a 3 to be successful because she already has 7 control.
If this doesn't make sense to you or if you hate this idea, just join in and decide if your character will succeed or not! You don't have to use dice if you don't want to.

Lucy bobbed her head at Amadea as she introduced herself. Pretty name, flitted through her mind as she listened to Amadea's concerns. How would they clean up this mess? That was a good question. Lucy's face set into a slight scowl - a sure sign that she was thinking through a situation. She nearly missed Ami's own introduction and comment about the glass. "Say, you know a lot about glass, don't you? I didn't even know there were two different kinds. That's pretty neat!" Lucy grinned down at Ami, who was holding a large piece of glass in her hand.
If only they could just put the glass back - no fuss, no foul. Wait... maybe they could! Lucy rocked onto the balls of her feet, pointing in the air. "Of course!" she exclaimed loudly, then flinched, glancing around. She didn't want to bring too much attention to their situation. "We learned about the Mending Charm this year, right? And don't our professors tell us to practice our homework?" she paused, her body practically vibrating with at the chance of doing magic. She rapidly looked back and forth between each of the two curly-haired redheads. "Why don't we try to simply repair the book case? I mean, sure, it'll be a bit more difficult than the broken chairs we practiced, but there's three of us. Surely we can do it together!"
Without waiting for a reply, Lucy walked so she was facing the cabinet straight on, just outside the range of the broken shards of glass. "I'll try it first," she called to the other two, suddenly feeling a bit less confident. She had never tried to do magic with other people watching her - outside of a classroom, that is. She eyed the broken display case, wondering what the best tactic would be. She decided to try to repair the upper right hand panel, seeing as each door to the case had two separate windows.
She pulled her wand out of her pocket, holding it gently. She cleared her mind, picturing what she wanted to happen. The glass will come from the ground. It will materialize in the air, fusing back together, and place itself inside the upper-right pane, she thought to herself, thinking through the steps. She quickly traced a backwards G in the air and enunciated, "Reparo!"

**Stakes are decided before I roll, and I will go with whatever happens!
If I roll a...
1-2 Lucy's spell does not work.
...3-6, Lucy's spell mends the glass pane, but it stays on the ground and does not go back into its spot in the cabinet.
7-10, Lucy's spell succeeds in repairing the glass and replacing it in the frame, as intended.
11-12, Not only does the glass and frame come back together as intended for the upper-right hand panel, but she accidentally repairs another glass pane while she's at it.

Lucy grinned as the glass started fixing together. She kept her wand pointed steadily at the glass, become a bit mesmerized as it almost melted back together. She lost focus a bit, zoning out on the magic unfolding in front of her, and when she came back to consciousness she realized the newly-made glass pane had stayed on the ground instead of going back into its place as she intended. Whoops.
"Uh. Well. That worked... kind of," Lucy sheepishly smiled, ducking her head. She crunched over the glass that was still broken and gingerly picked up the pane in front of her. She slid it carefully into the pane of the upper-right hole where it had once been and turned back to the girls.
"Okay," she cried, clapping her hands in delight, her fingertips still tingling from performing a spell correctly. "Who's next?" she backed up off the remaining glass shards and motioned at the two to step forward.

Do you give your own character their stats because if so, I have not given them to Amadea yet, so for now she'll watch the others perform their magic.
Amadea suppressed a giggle. She almost couldn't believe this situation was real; the girls were standing in shattered glass talking about how scary sneezing could be. She stopped smiling so she could listen to the girls. Apparently, there were two types of glass, which Amadea certainly did not know. Hopefully this was the type of glass that was repairable. Lucy, being the bold one, stepped forward and attempted to repair the glass using her magic. She yelled out the spell and pointed her wand. The glass began to merge back together and Amadea gasped. The magic was actually working! After the glass had been seared back together, Amadea waited for it to fly back into the case. It stayed on the ground, intact.
Lucy looked at Amadea. "Uh. Well. That worked... kind of," she said. Amadea offered Lucy a smile. "Good job!" she said. "That's better than I could do! Maybe Ami can go next?" she asked. "I am not very good with magic...I haven't gotten much practice before I mean. My parents aren't wizards...so um. I wouldn't want to rebreak the glass or do anything else to it that might ruin it." She ducked her head, letting her hair fall in front of her face like a curtain, waiting for someone else to speak up and offer to go next.

Ami stared in awe as the glass pieced itself back together right before her very eyes. She didn't realize magic could do things like this- glass was supposed to be gone for good when it shattered.
When Lucy asked if Amadea and Ami wanted to try, Ami looked down at the ground sheepishly. "Well, um, I lost my wand. It's... uh, it's somewhere. I'll probably find it three minutes before class starts, but as of now, I don't know where it is. I don't know if I'll be of much use right now, I'm really sorry. I caused this whole mess in the first place, and I can't even help clean it up." She hung her head, rubbing the back of her neck. "I also haven't learned this charm yet- or, more specifically, I haven't had the chance to practice it. Professor Blackburn gave me an assignment on it, but I haven't tried it yet."
Who was she kidding? Sure, she did actually lose her wand, and sure, she hadn't actually tried the spell before, but she was also terrified of messing up in front of these girls, who so clearly knew what they were doing. She was also terrified of disappointing her mother- heck, that was her Charms plaque lying on the stand not a stone's throw away!
