I Forget Where We Were
Writing to his parents became something he didn't do often anymore. He had gotten a letter asking for him to write more. anything to tell them he was okay. He felt okay, perhaps a little sleepy and tired. But he was happy, there was no denying that he was as happy as the person next to him. Yet a wave of melancholia would hit him when he'd start to forget the feeling of his mattress under him. Even a month since he began going to Hogwarts, he still didn't feel comfortable in the bed he laid in at night.
Home was where you make it, that's what he was told in a recent letter from his dad that got him thinking. "... a whole lot. Nothing bad has happened, I don't think anything really will." He paused to look up from the letter against a writing board as if he was thinking. Reid fixed the black rimmed reading spectacles on his nose, it had gone a little lopsided. The other day he had fallen asleep with them on his chest, an odd occurrence, and had rolled over to bend them a little. So now here he was writing a letter in the Owlery instead of his room.
It was out of simple choice, plus he wanted some fresh air after he spent yesterday after school studying in his dorm. Much of what's happened in the last few days hasn't bothered him much anymore, they were mostly thoughts in the back of his mind. They would come up when he would least expect it though, something to jog the memory. Reid never panicked when they would, more or less he was a quiet observer to them. It was best that way, he's been trying to control so many things to not get so overwhelmed. Yet in the end he was overwhelmed about trying not to get overwhelmed. So now he'd usually let it pass, he'd let it happen and let it drift.
He's gotten along with it, rather than constantly fighting it. A yawn left his mouth as he resumed his thoughts on the page. A few minutes later, he gingerly slipped off the edge of the pane and rolled the letter up. The boy held his arm out, flinching as this grey and white owl nestled on his arm. It wasn't that big but it looked formidable flying over. Yet the boy still brushed its feathers with a gentle hand, a little caught up with the bird. Yet the owl didn't seem to mind.

I Forget Where We Were
Words could not describe the events that had happened. Finally out of the hospital, Bloom was spending many nights catching up on sleep. She was unbearably exhausted and needed to regain her energy. She was permitted to skip a few classes throughout the week, which was helpful, but now she had loads to catch up on.
Sitting on a chair near her mahogany wooden desk, Bloom began to write out two letters: one to her parents and Bella, and the other one to her sister Claire. There were things that she did not want her parents to know and Bloom felt comfortable to share them with her older sister.
She walked into the stone-room splattered in white with owls flying about left to right. They probably enjoy the wind, she thought as she walked further into the circular room. She looked around, wondering who may be lurking about, and to her slight surprise, she saw Reid. Bloom hadn't seen Reid since her first day in the Hospital Wing. He hadn't visited her since then and she was in the room for a few days.
Remembering their encounter at the Hospital Wing, she remembered that he seemed a bit off. Granted, he just saw her punctured by a small acromantula. Even she would seem a bit off if she witnessed that. Bloom quietly walked up to Reid, only to be interrupted by a large grey and white owl that perched on his arm when he reached out. Bloom couldn't help but to giggle at the thought that the owl treated Reid like a branch.
"Hey," she started, "I guess you make a better tree than a wizard," she joked, watching him pet the bird delicately. It seemed as though it was one of the few birds that were not alpha-driven. Bloom had seen other students get pecked at from time-to-time. Thankfully, there were some owls that were much more relaxed and easier to connect with.
"How have you been doing?" she asked, looking around the room to find her favorite owl that she had always sent her letters with. She remembered meeting this own back when she was once in the Owlery with Reid.
Sitting on a chair near her mahogany wooden desk, Bloom began to write out two letters: one to her parents and Bella, and the other one to her sister Claire. There were things that she did not want her parents to know and Bloom felt comfortable to share them with her older sister.
Resting the quill down on the desk, she re-read her letter to her parents (and Bella) and placed it into an envelope. She wrote their names on the front of the envelope to ensure that they knew that it was their letter to open. Grabbing a new piece of parchment paper, she began to write her personal letter to Claire.Dear Mum, Dad and Bella,
You probably got an owl from Hogwarts about my injury. Please don't worry-- I'm okay. Thanks to a Hufflepuff friend, Reid, I'm alive. He really helped me throughout the really scary event. Also, the school gave me a lot of time to get better. (I didn't have to go to class all week!) When I come home in June, I'll be sure to show you guys my battle scar. The nurse said I was lucky as it did not puncture any organs. She would have had to create a brew of potion that would have been nastier than what she already made me! Ew!
I love and miss you all. I can't wait to see you soon!
Love,
Bloom
Placing the quill back into it's ink, Bloom put the letter to her sister in an envelope and using the quill once more, wrote her sister's name on the front. She took a deep breath and made her way toward the Owlery. She needed to get these letters out as soon as possible. Knowing that it was a bit chilly outside and perhaps it would fill the Owlery, Bloom grabbed her black dressing robe and tied her hair up into a bun. She then made her way out of her dorm, through her common room, and up the steps to the Owlery, both letters in her right hand.Dear Claire,
I wish you were able to join me at Hogwarts. You would have been a fourth year and we would have had so much fun. I'm having a bit of a problem and I don't know what to do. If you were here, you'd help me in no time. But now I have to wait for your answer and dwell on wondering what is the right choice...
I didn't tell you this, but I'm dating someone. (YES, A REAL PERSON!) His name is Ben Eckenrode. He's so nice and he's a Prefect. (By the way, did I tell you I'm a Prefect, too?) We kissed. I like him a lot. But for some reason, I can't stop thinking about Reid Kovacs. I thought I was over liking him after he rejected me a few months ago, but since that horrifying attack that mum and dad are probably freaking out about, I can't get him off my mind. Claire... He saved me.
I don't know what to do. I can't stop my heart from liking someone-- even if they don't like me back. Claire, who should I choose? The one who will stop the world for me, or the one who doesn't realize I'm there? Who would you pick?
Please reply back to me as soon as you can.
Love,
Bloom

The voice caused his head to turn a little, not too fast because he was afraid of taking his eyes off the giant bird on his arm. "Bloom. I don't think that would be too far from the truth" he greeted with a slight laugh. The young boy looked amused, by the joke and it caused him to chuckle a little more. It was good to see she was out and about, the last time he saw her was at the hospital wing. It made him feel a little guilty he didn't visit her then, but the reason as to why had slipped his mind by now.
He fastened the letter onto the bird and double checked to make sure it wouldn't fall out. Reid looked over as he prepared to set the owl free, "Tired to be honest, but I just probably need more sleep." Then without hesitation, the owl took off into the evening glow. He watched the bird go, his breath forming puffs of smoke as he slightly stared in awe of its wingspan. But someone else had his attention so he turned back to the Ravenclaw girl.
"You look well, a lot better than before. I haven't seen you since that last visit." He sounded apologetic in his remark, but he truly was anyway. What held him back from coming most of the times was that he wanted to take a step back from being 'that friend'. He sat on one of the nearby platforms, leaning his elbows against his thigh so he wouldn't have to touch the floor. If she wanted to, she could join him - if she didn't mind her robes getting a little dirty. "How have you been?"
The last time they saw each other at the Owlery wasn't on the best terms, well things were left off on a sour note. He didn't exactly want to recall the full details, but it was what started this whole oddity between them. Yet it felt like their friendship grew stronger as a result, at least in his eyes. He considered Bloom to be an incredibly close friend and yet one with distance. But the gap was still there and with time, he began to stop minding it.

I Forget Where We Were
Watching the monstrous bird fly from Reid's arm only made her laugh harder. It was definitely something that doesn't happen often in the Owlery. Typically, birds loved to nestle within their own cemented cubbies and keep to themselves until a student bothers them to send a letter home. But this one, it was definitely out of its norm.
Rolling her eyes, she smirked at the Hufflepuff. "You are always tired, Reid Kovacs," she joked, and she began to walk up to one of the owls that she recognized from before. Kneeling down to the owl's level, she pet the owl's head gently and nestled two of her letters close to the bird's beak. The bird hopped closer to Bloom and opened it's mouth to grab the letters from her hand. Hooting a couple of times, the bird left the Owlery through one of the arched windows.
Slowing getting up from her knees, she walked back towards Reid who seemed to move towards one of the nearby platforms to sit. Bloom went to follow and sat next to him, on his right side, ignoring the amount of bird droppings that she was probably sitting in. I wonder how many times this place gets cleaned... Does it get cleaned? she asked herself for a split moment, her mind wandering off.
"I'm thankful to not drink those nasty potions the nurse was giving me. But it helped a lot. It healed my wound very quickly. Now I have a really cool scar, see?" Bloom slightly leaned back and lifted her shirt halfway to reveal where the puncture had been on her stomach. From the looks of the scar, it looked like a wishing star on her left side of her stomach. She put her shirt down and wrapped her robe around her, to keep the cold air out.
"I know you haven't visited," she confirmed, "but I get it... I've been having crazy nightmares every night. Just the thought of a spi-" Bloom was unable to finish the sentence. She couldn't help but to feel a shiver down her spine. "Well, it's all good and done, so...," she quickly ended her thought.
Bloom looked at Reid, puzzled. Typically, he would be the one to be at her side all the time. Was it because she had Ben that he didn't want to interfere? That could be it, she thought and she looked away and played with the hems of her robe.
"So what did I miss this week? You've got to fill me in!" she said, excitedly, wondering if there were any gossip happening around Hogwarts that he knew about. She felt like such an outsider staying in the Hospital Wing for so long.

She wasn't wrong, he always seemed tired or just sleepy. He was a bleary eyed student, which probably didn't help his academics at all. Her scar had his brows arch in surprise, taken aback by how large it looked. It really did a number on her, causing him to grimace at the thought of the spider. It hadn't become his boogeyman anymore, the boogeyman was him not acting and it would have resulted in her death. The nightmares that plagued his sleep were of cowards, friends who didn't act in the moment and instead idly watched as the people they care about perished.
They weren't the tales he liked to hear and he wouldn't want to be part of such a tale. Luckily theirs ended on good note, no one had died. His week went on as per usual, which was a little above than the usual. A noise escaped from the back of his throat as if he was doting on an exact answer. "Well, I hate to say it, but not much has happened. I got into the HufflePost, I don't know if I'll be able to write all that well for them but I'll do any of the other things they want done." he replied, his head still turned to her.
It felt like they aged a little just in the month they've all gone to Hogwarts together, just a little. His forest green hues watched her with curiosity, till they flicked towards an owl loudly hooting. Perhaps the pause was too long and the owl got weirded out. He brought his legs together and leaned on them, his now slightly longer matted hair sticking out at odd places as he watched the owlery. "Quidditch tryouts are soon too, I'm thinking of signing up. I'm just a little nervous about actually signing up, plus even if I do get in - playing." Reid softly huffed in amusement. What if he didn't get in? It wouldn't be the worst, but it would definitely hang him up for a few days. What if he got in and he wasn't the player cut out? That would probably be worse.

He was accomplishing so much in just a few months at school. Bloom couldn't help but to scrunch her button nose playfully, smiling at the Hufflepuff. "Reid! Look at you doing things," she said, hitting him playfully on his arm. She never thought of him to take up so much responsibility at all. Maybe I don't know him that well after all, she thought, thinking about how she thought he was an observer more than a doer.
"As Prefect they have me writing for the Ravenclaw Newspaper. Nothing has been in the works and there are no deadlines or meetings yet. But it is great to see Hufflepuff is hard at work in getting it done!" she joked, including the house's trait into the mix. Her heart jumped a beat at the thought that they had a lot in common-- more than she had realized. But of course, her heart needed to be elsewhere. She liked Ben a lot, but she always wondered why she was always finding her way with Reid. Most of the time, it's by accident.
Not knowing that his forest green eyes were staring at her, she looked away at the owl that seemed to be staring at them. It was a beautiful owl with brown fur and yellow eyes. It was a lot different than the other owls that seemed to be inhabiting the Owlery. It seemed she stared at the owl a little too long that it hooted a bit loudly, perhaps feeling uncomfortable at the stare. Her attention went back on Reid.
"You should do it! You'll do great. They're gonna know that you're a keeper!" Bloom joked, but also blushed ever so slightly knowing that there was a double meaning in that phrase of hers. She felt as though she hid the double meaning well enough for him to not get it-- at least she hoped. "What position are you hoping for?" she asked. Bloom hoped for him to be on a team. It would give a reason for her to watch the Quidditch Game, that's for sure. I wonder if Ben is also going to try out, she thought, realizing that would also give her reason to watch the games.

She had a way of making him feel at ease, at times he feels like he was the one always coming to the conversations with his hands up in defense. It was hard not to sometimes since he's always been used to the position for a while. But thankfully, Bloom had some way of dispelling his discomfort at a moments notice - those friends were hard to come by. He leaned back this time, listening to her as she talked about the newspaper team for Ravenclaw. The boy playfully rolled his eyes at her jest towards his humble house, a joke he didn't take to heart.
"Uh huh." He combed a hand through his hair, softly huffing as he chuckled at her comment. This would probably dismay her, but he got the pun outright. He was listening awfully close to her comments right now and hung onto every word she had said. A loud laugh escaped from the Hufflepuff boy, his voice cracking at some point as he slightly burned. It was charming he had to admit, but he took the light compliment as is. "Am I a keeper? I feel like you'd want to think about that again." Reid teased, looking to his side.
He sniffed as the redness in his face slowly began to disappear, thankfully he could probably pass it off as the cold biting his skin. "Beater." He turned his attention back towards the girl, looking down slightly since he was just a little taller than her. "I'm thinking of trying out for the position of beater, I'm not fast enough for a seeker or chaser. But I think I can give that bludger a wallop." It sounded like a dangerous one too, which was a small part of why he wanted to try.
He also wanted to help represent his house, to give it more than the name people seem to suggest with it. It was a large ambition, but the glory seemed to be worth it. "Is Ben trying out for the Ravenclaws?" He'd maybe fight against Ben at some point, which would be interesting. Perhaps some friendly rivalry if they would even still be friends at that point, which he hoped they would be.

I Forget Where We Were
Did he get just understand what I meant? she thought, seeing his cheeks turn a little red. His chuckle made her think that perhaps he did understand the fact that she did think he was a keeper and her face stayed red a little longer from the pun. Why do I open my big mouth? she asked, knowing that it was definitely not okay to say since she was with Ben now. She did not know how to handle relationships. She did not even know how to handle her own feelings. Is she not allowed to joke like that with Reid anymore? Is Reid strictly off limits? If only there was a rule book that taught her the ways of boys and being with them. She was beyond stuck.
It made her realize how much she needed her sister to write back to her as quickly as possible. The question still burns in the back of her mind. What was Bloom to do? Stay with the one that notices her, or still be in awe with the one that can't find her in a crowd of people? Differentiating between her heart and mind was not a skill Bloom had-- not at eleven.
"A beater?" she questioned. This was definitely not a position she thought he would go for. She would have definitely thought he was the kind of person to be a keeper, and if not, then a chaser. But a beater was way out of his element-- at least she thought so. "When are tryouts?" she asked, wondering how long before he would test his skill or whatever he may have.
Finally, they were talking about Ben. To him, it must be fine talking about Ben as they were friends and there was nothing too weird about it. But to Bloom, it was odd. It was though it created a triangle in her mind. She cleared her throat and looked at the stone wall in front of her. "Honestly, I don't know. I wouldn't put it past him since he's very into sports," she said, her chocolate brown eyes looking back at Reid. "It would be cool to see you guys play each other. I'm afraid I'd have to root for Ben if that happens, though," she smiled, her laughing lines exposed.
"You know who I haven't seen in awhile and I miss? Is Felicity. I hope everything is alright," she said, randomly thinking of one of her best girl friends that she met after the horrific event with Reid in the Owlery awhile back. She was the one who truly helped her out of her funk. It was a random thought, but Reid was one of the only people to have known her just as well as she did.

She was the one who truly helped her out of her funk. It was a random thought, but Reid was one of the only people to have known her just as well as she did.

I Forget Where We Were
He expected Ben to get in with ease, the guy definitely knew how to to stay in shape. It was no surprised to hear that he was sports inclined, while he was the parallel opposite. He hoped Quidditch would bring him out of his shell, maybe he'll get some Gryffindor blood running through him. Perhaps he should talk to Sabrina about it, she'd know a thing or two about some gusto. Still, it was an exciting time and he could feel the electricity in the air. People were anxious to climb those stands and scream for their team, whether he was on it or not - he was rooting for his house.
He had become fiercely loyal to Hufflepuff over the weeks, he's found friends and met some wonderful people from it. There was no going back, he bled gold through and through. He was felt pretty happy with where his life was going, yet he was yanked from his thoughts by Bloom's question. The happy expression on his face fell and was replaced with a look of concern. The boy couldn't hide his emotions, he wasn't that well with it when it came to things of the heart.
One of those thing was concerning himself with the sudden disappearance of Felicity. "I miss her too and I hope everything is alright." he sighed, seeming forlorn. His gaze flicked to her a few times, looking back towards the Owlery as doubt began to plague his mind. "The last time I saw Fel was when I helped her to the hospital wing. She fell on the Grand Staircase and twisted her ankle." The boy shook his head and tried not to get worked up over the possibilities.
He was the worst at being positive sometimes. "It kind of made me worry when I didn't see her in her bed when I went to visit you, no letter or word of her leaving Hogwarts. I hope she's okay." He felt a little guilty for leaving her that evening, what if something happened after? No way, the nurses were on watch - surely she had been fine. But still, he worried that something else might have happened. The boy forced a smile onto his features, straightening himself out as he did so. "She'll be okay, maybe she's just around, her ankle must be giving her some trouble.

"Trouble usually finds me."

I Forget Where We Were
The thought of not having her best girlfriend around made Bloom feel a bit sad. She understood Bloom the minute they met and she had never met someone like her before. Felicity reminded Bloom a lot of her older sister, Claire. Listening to Reid about her ankle, Bloom raised her right hand and covered her mouth in shock.
"She didn't tell me anything about that!" she said, wondering if everything is alright with her. Her mind began to rattle a bunch of optimistic thoughts at why she wasn't at Hogwarts for a bit. Maybe she went home to spend time with her parents. Maybe she is figuring out her dreams, she thought to herself, going on and on as to why one minute she would be in the castle and the next she would disappear.
"I wouldn't worry too much. If I know Felicity, she's probably home with family and researching more about those dreams she was having," she said, giving him some bright side. Bloom, looking at Reid, could tell that he seemed a bit beaten up by the fact that she got hurt. Granted, Felicity had gotten hurt on his watch. Maybe now, with two of his friends making their way to the Hospital Wing, it made him feel like it was all his fault.
Bloom hated to see Reid feel uncomfortable. She could tell that he was forcing himself to be okay when he lengthened his back and forced a smile onto his face. Bloom couldn't help but to take a deep breath and lean her body against his in a friendly manner. "At least we've got each other until we see her again," she said, her head against his shoulder. "Just think, when she comes back, you'll have a lot to share with her!" Bloom added.
She didn't realize what she was doing until she could smell his scent. Is this okay to do? she asked herself, frozen. She had no idea what was considered appropriate and what wasn't. For some reason, she felt as though this was fine. She relaxed her posture, sighing.
Bloom looked back at the brown owl that was still staring at them. For an owl, it was staring pretty intensely at the two. The owl began to hoot loudly in retaliation to her starring. Bloom looked away and realized her head had been on his shoulders a bit too long. She lifted her head up and looked down at her robes.
"We should go on another adventure," she said, "But not outside, somewhere inside," she added quickly, assuming that Reid would have been hesitant for any more outside adventures after the one they accidentally had. "You know, I saw a Slytherin on the second floor corridor a couple weeks ago staring at a wall. She said that she was looking for something called the Room of Requirement," Bloom said with sarcastic emphasis. "It has a ring to it. Have you heard of it?" she asked, hoping this subject of an adventure would pique his interest.
