Opening Letters
ReducioPV: Lamik Fillestar
During his time at Hogwarts, Emile had become a usual at the Owlery. After he had received news that his grandfather was feeling sick, he had been sending letters almost everyday. He needed to cherish the time he had with him, even if it meant he couldn't be there. Besides, Emile enjoyed writing. He could write about all the things that happened to him at Hogwarts, which seemed to be a lot. When he had first arrived he hadn't even expected to become friends with anyone..and now? Well he had met a girl in the abandoned bathrooms, and another who came out of a tree, and two by the lake. His time here was turning out to be very interesting, and so he never had to worry about having things to write about in letters.
The only thing he really worried about was his grandfather. What was going to happen to him? Ever since Emile had heard the news he never looked forward to getting letters anymore. Whenever he got one he was scared to open it, and to read something that might make him extremely, utterly sad. He remembered the first time he got a letter after he had gotten the news, and how he was shaking. The last thing he wanted to do was open it after getting the last one. Weren't letters supposed to be fun to get? They were supposed to tell you how much the writer missed you, and all the things happening at home. It wasn't supposed to be about sick grandpa's. Still though, Emile knew he had to keep his head up, because with an attitude like that, there was no hope, and hope is always vital to get through these types of things!
So here he was, sitting in the Owlery and writing another letter. His pen scribbled quickly, stopping every couple of seconds to look at what he had written and decide what he wanted to write next. He always took great care in whatever he wrote. Maybe that was something good his parents had passed down as a trait, but he wasn't looking to think about them either. They were probably off in Japan, or something, and didn't have a care in the world. And here he was, an 11 year old, worried about his grandpa.
"Emile, you cannot keep sulking. Finish this letter and go and get a donut or something." He said quickly to himself, and started to write even faster. Emile was the type of person who would talk to himself without noticing, and sometimes it could get him into pretty embarrassing situations. This was also a downside to being himself, because Emile gets embarrassed extremely easily. Moreover, when he does it's easy to see how red he is because of his pale face.
Dear Grandma,
How is grandpa? I hope he's doing better.
Was probably something like the letter was written like. Emile took out his notebook and scribbled something inside, then let out a deep sigh. He wished this wasn't happening.

"Donuts are great comfort foods." A cheerful voice came from behind Emile. The source of the voice was Lamik Fillestar, a young Gryffindor who had been standing there, watching Emile for far longer than socially acceptable. Leaning against the wall, the boy scratched his head, barely managing to hold a quill, an inkpot, and a few pieces of parchment in his hand. As he rested his hand by his side, the boy spoke again. "Unless you were speaking to yourself- in that case, continue."
Lamik had come to the owlery to write his family a letter- specifically, his little sister and best friend Alice. He desperately wanted to tell her about the few adventures that he had gone through up until that point, and since his parents had finally managed to calm down after the bomb in the abandoned bathroom, the boy had time. Stupid newspaper... not asking to interview me about that day.
As he pushed his mild frustration out of his head, Lamik suddenly wondered who the boy that he had found was. He seemed oddly familiar- a prefect, possibly. At the end of the day though, it didn't matter to Lamik. If it meant that he had a chance to make another friend, the boy could have been the son of the pope for all he cared.

As a matter of fact, Emile had felt a bit like he was being watched for the past couple of minutes. For some reason, this always seemed to happen to him. He wasn't complaining, since he didn't get all that much attention at home, but it was also a bit strange to be watched. Though it was definitely a bit strange, Emile didn't want to let that get in the way of him having a friend as well, and this a place him and Lamik seemed to be similar.
"Donuts are great comfort foods." Emile had heard behind him, and he turned over his paper immediately. He wasn't really wanting anyone to see the contents of the letter. Asking if your grandfather had taken his medicine on a letter wasn't something you wanted to show to people you didn't know. It could cause unwanted questions to be asked, and maybe guide Emile to feel vulnerable..it just wasn't a good situation. Emile whipped his head around, his jet black hair going into his eyes. He quickly pushed it out to reveal his flustered face.
"Oh..uhm! Yes they are." Emile said, finishing with a small smile. "I like strawberry ones the best. How about you?" Emile blurted out, then felt extremely stupid immediately after. My social life is over. Say goodbye, Emile. He thought, sighing to himself. Emile was the type of person to say random things when faced in an awkward situation, or a time when he got surprised. In this case this was the second. When Emile had come to the Owlery, he hadn't really expected anyone to come up to him, let alone talk to him. Even if anyone had been coming up to the tower, he didn't think anyone would want to come up to him. Sure, he was a prefect, but that didn't necessarily mean he was suddenly the most social person on the world.
When he was able to take a better look at Lamik, he also noticed that he had definitely seen him somewhere before. Was it during class? During mealtime? Emile focused on his robes and saw a red and yellow tie..and the badge of a lion! He was a Gryffindor, one of his own kind. Since becoming a prefect, Emile had wanted to make sure he knew most of the students in his house's names, even though he was quite awkward. He wanted to somehow create relationships if he could so the students knew they could go to him if they needed anything. "I've seen you around the common room!" Emile chimed. "I'm Emile, what's your name?" He asked, putting out his hand for him to shake.

"Emile..." Lamik thought for a few moments. The name did sound familiar, though he wasn't exactly sure why. Chalking it up to Emile probably being a prefect, the boy answered, a friendly smile on his face. "It's nice to meet you, Emile. I'm Lamik. Lamik Fillestar." Shaking his hand for a bit longer than necessary, Lamik grinned. "Chocolate donuts are the only way to go in my opinion. They are quite objectively the best."
"I've seen you around the common room too. You don't happen to be a prefect by any chance, do you?" Lamik asked, finally letting go of Emile's hand. Moving beside him and placing his own supplies onto the table, Lamik sat down and rested his hands on the parchment he had brought. Even though he was mid-conversation, Lamik never stopped thinking about what he was planning on writing. The first thing he wanted was to tell Alice about Saski; the girl he had befriended. He knew that his little sister would adore her, and he hoped that maybe they would meet one day. Other than that, he also wanted to tell her about the various spells and potions that he had learned. He knew that technically he wasn't allowed to use them outside of school, but one or twice couldnt hurt, could it?

"Emile..." Lamik said, stopping to think for a moment, it seemed. "It's nice to meet you, Emile. I'm Lamik. Lamik Fillestar." Lamik said, and took Emile's hand, seeming to shake it for a bit longer than normal. "Chocolate donuts are the only way to go in my opinion. They are quite objectively the best." Lamik then said, grinning. Emile couldn't help but smile back. Something about this student made him want to smile.
"Oh, I don't want to seem self-centered or something..but maybe you've seen me because I'm a prefect?" Emile questioned, a bit nervous to seem like he was tooting his own horn or something. Genuinely, Emile never ever wanted to make anyone feel like they were less than him. He had enough of that with his experience with his parents. He wouldn't wish treatment like that on his worst enemy. That kind of thing can mess someone up, even it it's as simple as saying you have better shoes than the other person. In any case, Emile never wanted to make someone feel like that. "Oh! And it's lovely to meet you too, Lamik." Emile said, smiling at him back.
"Hold on, can you give me a moment?" Emile asked, slipping out his notebook from his pocket. Ne had remembered he hadn't written anything in his notebook about Lamik yet. He quickly scribbled something down it in. What he scribbled could be assumed to be something about how he observed Lamik's character to be. Many of his characters were probably going to based on the people he met during his time at Hogwarts, and Emile felt like the first impressions he had of people were very important to get a good idea of how the character would turn out. His pen seemed to go at the speed of light, and almost anyone could see that is was very normal for Emile to write a ton whenever he could. Many told him this was rude, since sometimes he would just start writing in the middle of conversations or in situations where it wasn't exactly right to..but Emile couldn't help it. What if he used a piece of dialogue from the dinner table in his novel? Though Emile didn't even have that much confidence in himself writing the novel, he still gathered a ton of information to do it if he could.
Emile also noticed that Lamik seemed to have a roll of parchment. Maybe he was planning to write something too? A letter? A novel? Emile wasn't quite sure, and he didn't want to assume either. "What are you going to write, if you don't mind me asking." Emile said. Even if he was awkward, Emile always loved to hear of writing.

As soon as Emile said that he was a prefect, Lamik jokingly made an annoyed expression, pretending to be bothered by his "Self-centered" ways. "Ya, that's pretty much what I figured. You have a sort of prefect-y look to you." As the smile quickly returned to his face, Lamik stared at Emile's notebook, slightly confused at what the heck was going on. After all, not many people tended to take notes of him as soon as he started a conversation.
"What are you going to write, if you don't mind me asking."
"A letter back home. I'm writing to my little sister- Alice! She's the best, and I want to make sure that she knows all about what I learn here at Hogwarts." Noticing Emile's overturned parchment on the table, Lamik cocked his head. "And what were you writing, Mr. I Don't Have A Nickname For You Yet Because Of The Fact That We Only Just Met? Hey. That rhymes!" For a few moments, the boy was lost in his own thoughts, wondering how many words rhyme with "met". Suddenly remembering that he was in the middle of a conversation, Lamik snapped his attention back to Emile and added: "In the notebook and the letters. I'm curious what you want donuts for."

Something good about Emile is that he could actually tell when someone was joking. He was quite empathetic, and his humor had a good chunk of sarcasm and that kind of banter to it, so he appreciated Lamik acting the way he was. "Ya, that's pretty much what I figured. You have a sort of prefect-y look to you." Lamik said, and afterwards a smile returned to his face. Emile studied this face for a moment and quickly wrote something down in his notebook, which probably seemed extremely rude, but it was for the sake of writing and for the sake of his novel, which were quite important in his eyes. Emile also noticed that Lamik was staring right at his notebook, which made him feel the tiniest bit uneasy. Though he and Lamik had seemed to click in a way, he felt weird whenever anyone looked in his notebook.
Remembering a time like this was easy. For example, during dinner his grandparents had gotten into a heated argument about the parental situation of Emile, and he couldn't help but write it down. How they looked and sounded whilst fighting. This was also kind of a coping method for Emile so it wasn't all meant to be rude. Afterwards, his Grandma wanted to read his notebook about what Emile had seen, but Emile didn't let her because he felt, well, weird about it. It was almost like a diary, except not. His notebook was his notebook. Though he did want to find someone he might be able to show the contents inside to.
Breaking out of his state of mind, Lamik answered his question about who he was going to write or what he was going to write with the materials he had brought. "A letter back home. I'm writing to my little sister- Alice! She's the best, and I want to make sure that she knows all about what I learn here at Hogwarts." Lamik said, seeming to be very excited and happy to talk about her. Emile wondered what his life might have been like if he had a sibling. He was an only child, sadly. "It sounds nice to have a sibling." Emile said out loud, then kind of regretted showing that he was a bit vulnerable.
"And what were you writing, Mr. I Don't Have A Nickname For You Yet Because Of The Fact That We Only Just Met? Hey. That rhymes! In the notebook and the letters. I'm curious what you want donuts for." Lamik finished, after seeming to think for a moment. Emile smiled slightly at Lamik.
"Well, you can call me Emmy if you like. That's what some have been calling me." He told him, seeming to be a bit proud that he had gotten a nickname. "And I'm writing to my grandma. Family stuff, you know. It's just some bad stuff, so I want to reward myself with a donut, even though that probably seems stupid." Emile said, keeping the explanation brief. "And this notebook? It's for something I want to write." He explained. "I'm not sure what that will be yet, though." Emile said.

"Alright, Emmy it is. Well, Emmy, It is nice to have a sibling." Lamik could not be happier with the sister that he had gotten from the great lottery of life. In every way, shape, and form, Alice was his best friend and favorite person in the whole wide world. He couldn't even begin to imagine what his life would be like without her there. "Like, really nice. You should try it sometime."
Not really thinking about the fact that Emile might have not have wanted to share, Lamik started asking questions: "Why? What happened in your family? Are you in a fight with someone? Can I see what you write in your notebook?" as he continued hammering Emile with questions, Lamik also prepared possible lines of advice that he would need. Maybe his dad is mad at him for not feeding his pet? No that doesn't make sense. He's in Hogwarts.
On almost every aspect of his life, Lamik Fillestar was an open book. He barely had any secrets that he tried to keep hidden and didn't really care what other people thought of his personality- unless they were his parents, of course. Because of this the boy often asked questions without thinking too much about them and the impact they could have on his surroundings- be it because of curiosity, ignorance, or stupidity.

"Alright, Emmy it is. Well, Emmy, It is nice to have a sibling. Like, really nice. You should try it sometime." Lamik said. Emile felt happy that Lamik was going to use his nickname. In Emile's opinion, nicknames always made things more casual and less awkward, and believe me, he would take any form os less awkward situations he could. He was awkward enough on his own. Formalities being dropped were something that helped, even if it was a small part. And on siblings? Well, Emile really had wanted a sibling when he was younger and truthfully he still wanted one now, even though he knew that would never happen. His parents were far too busy. They couldn't even take care of Emile, why would they bring another child into the world? Still though, Emile couldn't help but think of how his life might have been with a brother or sister. "I wish I could try it." Emile said, a light and kind of sad laugh following his statement.
"Why? What happened in your family? Are you in a fight with someone? Can I see what you write in your notebook?" Lamik asked, kind of bombarding the Gryffindor with questions. Emile thought about whether or not he wanted to tell his whole life story to someone he had met about five minutes ago. Really though, this letter and his notebook were extremely personal things that he hadn't even shown to his grandparents. (in the case of his notebook.) On the other hand, Emile also didn't want to come off as rude. He studied Lamik for a moment then answered. "No..it's not a fight. My grandfather is sick, that's all." Emile told him, feeling satisfied with his answer. It didn't give away too much, but it also give him a vague idea of what was going on. In reality, it wasn't really a "that's all" situation. His grandfather couldn't speak anymore, and was bedridden.
"And about my notebook, I don't think you want to look in there. It's chicken scratch." This was the excuse Emile used frequently. It was chicken scratch, yes, but anyone who was decent at reading could be able to make it out. He just didn't want to show his vulnerable side in the notebook to anyone, because there was definitely some stuff in there tat was pretty deep and dark. Mostly about his parents and his feelings about that, but it was still some pretty sad stuff and it was kind of embarrassing. He didn't really feel comfortable telling Lamik about it all yet, as they had just met. Emile decided that if they got closer in the future he might – might – be open to showing it. Probably not, but it was kind of nice to think about having a friend that close to you.

"Oh..." The young boy felt slightly bad for asking, not entirely sure what something like that would feel like it real life. While both his grandmothers were alive and healthy, Lamik had only ever known one of his grandfathers, and though he wanted to ask more questions on the topic the boy was aware that speaking to somebody who is in almost every way a stranger about such incredibly personal matters didn't make a whole lot of sense. "Well..." He said, readjusting in his seat while trying to think of a better subject to transition into.
Despite this though, Lamik still wanted to know what was written about him in said "chicken scratch", and he wasn't about to give up on it that easily. It was written about him without his permission, after all- not that he minded, he just wished he could know what was on it. Besides, insisting on seeing what was written could be a wonderful distraction for Emmy. "I don't mind. My handwriting is terrible too Emmy, so I have a bit of experience reading stuff that's not so easy to read. I would like to see what youve written about me though. It is about me, after all."
