She held the doucmentation in her hand as the owl perched on her arm looking questiongly at her.Her hand shook as she read the document. This could not be possible...so soon? Elena crumpled up the paper tossing it out the window slamming a fist into the wall."DAMN IT!"She yelled causing the school owl to hoot as it tiled its heard to look at her. Tears streamed down her face as she stood there, glancing out the window at the landscape beyond the castle. She hated them, hated them with all her veins. She touched the necklace at her chest taking it off looking at the jewel. The skull jewel loomed out at her grinning as it reminded her of whom she was attached to. Turning it over, the symbol of the Dark Mark was ever so obvious in all its glory. Clenching it in a fist, she threw it to the ground hearing the dull clunk as it hit the stone surface. "I hate them....so...much....so much."She muttered to herself sobbing looking around her. The curious head of the school owls peered down at her, those sharp beaks and inteliigent eyes gauging her face. She was probably a mess, not that she cared at the moment. She had more pressing matters to attend to.

She glanced at the fallen necklace and pointed her wand at it, her hand shaking. It could be over now, all she had to do was utter a hex or something. She laughed inwardly, what spells could she use? She was a first-year, heck, she barely knew any magic. Pocketing it in a sort of depressing way, she slumped down near the wall, the necklace in her hands, the tears coming steadily. It was too much to take in this early in the school year. "Why,why, why,"She said angrily to herself. Her parents were at fault for this, that damned letter had ruined it all. What to do?

He was one foot in as he heard someone scream inside, causing him to retract his foot immediately. Did someone release a banshee or something? In the owlery? Stupid. Was there a fight? The boy popped his head in quite stealthy as he tried to find the source. His eyes locked onto a small Gryffindor girl. A girl! ehm... crying? Why do I keep finding girls that seem sad? He got a bit worried for the girl. Realiseing he might be able to help, he took a deep breath and walked in.

"H- hi there." He stood still and waved awkwardly from a distance. He recognised the girl now, from the stairs. She had seemed very helpful that day, so she had to be nice. Not sure by the slightest on what to do he simply, but cautiously, appraoched the gryfindor girl. As he neared her he was almost 90% sure she was not a monster or under attack by any, causing him to relax a bit. He dropped down to his knees and bent his head a little to get a better look. "I'm Hugh, we're in the same house." He looked around as he spoke. Finding the owlery a chill and lonely place still, as he did before. "Care for some company?"

She jumped hearing the voice and looked up instantly, her cheeks flushing red with a sort of embarassment that someone had caught her up here. It was that boy, Hugh was his name, he said. She recgonized him from a couple days back. She brushed away a few tears as he knelt before her speaking in a shaking voice nodding her head."It..it..it's fine. I'm fine. Just b-being overdramatic."She said attempting her best smile. She really was a terrible liar. Her eyes were red from all the tears, her hair a mess. Today was literally not a good day and to top it off, someone had witnessed her in this state. She sighed finally looking at him."No, I'm not alright. I feel like flipping some damn tables...then just bawling my eyes out."She said glancing up at him. She shrugged at his offer of company. It was up to him. She didnt know if she wanted to spill the story to him yet, she just might. "You can stay if you want. But, I just dont want everyone finding out...about this."She said waving a hand around talking about her current predicament.

Running a hand over the necklace she had in her hand which was now slightly cracked due to her throwing it, she returned it to around her neck and shivered a bit, the Owlery was a chilly place but it was the only place she thought was secure until now. "It's about my parents.....if you can even call them that."She said dully laughing inwardly at the thought. She had come to Hogwarts to escape from them but that wasnt working out as planned. This was going to be a long story."You....you dont have to listen if you dont want to...."She said refusing to meet his eyes. She could feel herself welling up again, this was going to be hard.

"I'm all ears" Hugh replied in short. He gave her his friendliest smile and sat next to her. "What's this about your so-called parents?" He did his best to listen as intensely as possible. The girl seemed very upset. Though she already was starting do talk more clearly. He felt a bit awkward by the whole situation. How he found her alone and angry. He eyed her chipped necklace. "What's up with that?" Hoping he wasn't too intrusive. But he meant to be interested in hearing her full story. The main thing she seemed to need was a friend right now.

It still was a bit chilly and he wasn't exactly dressed for spending a long time in here. But he decided it was best to wait a bit before they moved places. The girl needed to tell her story first. It occurred to him he never caught her name. "Oh, btw, I never got your name?" Another smile followed as he held out a hand to show he wanted to greet her. " Any of these owls yours?" Slowly he had begun to notice several owls coming closer and closer. Rorie would have already attacked them with cuddles. He had to chuckle at that thought.

"Elena. Elena Jangleton."She said briefly shaking his hand, a bit appreciatjve of the gesture. Nodding at his request, she called out and a brown tawny owl flew down from the top landing on her shoulder tilting its head looking at Hugh curiously."This is Droopy. He was supposed to take the letter but after what happened, I couldn't bear with it."She said shakingly. Glancing at the necklace, she struggled with the concept of showing anyone this. It could land her in a lot of trouble. The girl shuddered taking in a deep breath. Well, maybe he could help or she was making a very foolish choice. She handed the item to him and on the back of the jewel, there would be a engraving of the Dark Mark etched into the stone."Thats part of my problem. This necklace has brought me so much bad luck it isnt even funny. My parents gave it to me threatning me with the Ministry if I ever told anyone or lost it and here I am."She said, stray tears running down her cheeks.

It's my sister. She's dead...by their hands."She said forcefully as if the words pained her. They really were monsters."She was a Auror for the Ministry and threatened them about this item than they killed her!"She said her hand clecnhing and unclenching unable to meet Hugh's gaze."I'm sorry, I just...feel so dead. I feel like I just want to sit here and hate them and bawl my eyes out. They're so ...it's just...I can't"She said burying her face in her hands. Droopy hooted as a attempt to comfort her shuffling closer to the young student getting no response as she shook, the grief evident from her body language.

Hugh smiled at the bird as Elena mentioned him. Droopy seemed like an odd name for a pet but he perhaps shouldn't judge that quickly. After all, he thought he could remember him giving his family cat weird nicknames when he was younger. Something like "Snottlepuff" or "Crooktail". Not that anyone had ever claimed him to be a poet in spe, but it did sound rather horrid repeating them in his head now.

He had to make sure not to smile at his memories though. After all, Elena was not alright. He could tell by her shaky voice and regular glances towards the necklace. Not to mention the sobbing. Him cracking a smile would have been obscenely impolite to say the least. He tried to sit up straight against the wall they had both chosen to sit against. Not really sure what to expect, his eyes kept inspecting her movements and tried to note her emotions.

A moment followed where she handed him her necklace. An action he had not really been anticipating on, but here it was. He accepted the item and gave it a good look. Turning it in his hands he saw some sort of ominous mark on the back. He gave Elena a frown, which she chose to reply to.

She kicked off a tale that made Hugh grimace in agony as he thought about what the girl had to be going through. Her parents had threatened her? Could they even be called a thing such as "parents"? What father would willingly turn his child over to the ministry? Or which mother would love her girl so little, she'd frame her without a second thought? Elena's history only grew darker as she kept explaining. Her sister dead...

"Killed? By your parents?" The boy was in utter shock? What did he get into? Where did this all come from? Why was she not talking to a professor about this instead of locking herself up in the owlery. "I-..." He had no words. What was he supposed to say to this? What was expected of him? What would his father do? Comfort. He'd comfort her. "I'm sorry Elena." He placed a hand on her shoulder. "I'm not really the best person to talk to I guess... but if I can help... I mean..."

She flinched a bit as his hand found her shoulder but did not pull away. Droopy just perched on her other shoulder tilting its head curiously around as if glancing for some treats to nibble on. Hugh's reaction was not new to the girl. She had expected it before, people were often shocked that someone young as her could have witnessed such trauma at a young age but the fact that he was actually taking the time to listen and not like the others who had assumed it would work out on its owns spoke volumes to her."I don't need any experts on mental stress or stuff like that."She said waving away his comment about being unable to aid her in his current skillset. She looked up at him, her eyes red from the tears staining her cheeks."I just want a life, Hugh. It's not even been a year at this school yet trouble seems to find me. My parents you see..the idea of children is...horrendous to them. Everything they do is for a purpose, a benefit to them. Having me, who knows what they think I will do that they'll benefit from."She said laughing bitterly, an angry expression on her face.

"She was older than me and I loved her dearly. She was only trying to do the right thing! Now, she is just a rotting corspe God knows where."She leant back against the wall shivering as the cold air of the Owlery swirled around them. She had been just fine and dandy the first day only to have all the peace and love ripped from her in a instant. "I don't need help, I just need...I need..."She sighed trailing off. What did she need? Everywhere she went. her shy personality tended to put people off, friends were a rare occasion to come by to her, she was surprised Hugh was even talking to her."I don't know what I need. I have yet anyone to talk to since I entered this castle. Its just been me, myself and I. I am trying to break away from them, perhaps start a new life here but its hard when people dont want to assoicate themselves with a mess like me."She paused and rephrased that statement."Well, apart from you, that is."She added managing a weak smile.

"You need a friend lass." he smiled friendly at her. He crossed his arms around his legs and pulled them close. "I'll stay for a bit and make sure you get back to our dorm safely, if you don't mind?" He cracked his neck a bit as he coked his head sideways. "After all, us gryffs are meant to look after eachother." There wasn't anything he could do about her parents other than scold them in his mind. He was just an eleven year old kid that happened to be place in the same house as this hurt little girl. Though he had never met anyone like her that had already seen so much hurt in the world at such a young age. His father would have wrapped her up in a blanket and given her tea all day long til she'd feel somewhat better for herself. Ready to face the next day to come. Hugh wasn't his father though. Not that he didn't try, but he stll had a long way to go in terms of confidence. At the very least he felt he could help his newfound friend by listening to her story. "Don't worry Elena. I'm here. Hogwarts will be a good place for you to be. You'll see!" He offered her another warm smile.

She took a deep shuddering breath and glanced at Hugh attempting a smile as she raised a hand to wipe her tears. Friend, huh? Well, she could always try, Elena thought but it would be hard having to overcome this hurdle. Her sibling had been like her own best friend, someone she had shared secrets with and fought with, laughed with and now, all of that had been ripped away from her in one instant moment. Life really was cruel at times but if what Hugh said was true, maybe, just maybe, she could find some resolve in this castle, after all, she still had seven years to endure and during those seven years, she swore to deliver to her parents the cold, hard truth of Azkaban. She didn't know how she was going to do it but she was going to find a way."Thanks, Hugh, that was nice of you to stop by, you didn't have to.."She said to him silently appreciating the fact he had stopped to listen. It was not often someone was willing to lend a ear to her problems so for that, she was grateful.

She nodded in agreement at the mention of the warm dormitories. It was far better then sitting up here bawling her eyes out in a cold Owlery where she was sure she would get hypothermia if she stayed here any longer."Maybe I should just try to find the happiness in my life, the little things but sometimes, I feel like I am running out of things to find peace in."She said walking to the door and holding it open to him. "But then I remember, maybe, just maybe there are those I can associate with, spend my time doing that which I used to with my sister.."She smiled at Hugh."You barely knew me and yet you stopped to check on me, not many would do that, I should be thanking you, I barely know anyone here, you are like the first person I have met."She added reflecting on that fact. In fact, he was the first Gryffindor she had met upon entering the castle.
