Rorie found the school owl she had sent to her mother with another note attached. Unrolling it, she found that it was from her family back in muggle London.

It read:

Rorie,

I'm happy that you enjoy Hogwarts, I hope you are having fun and learning. Stay focused, don't get into trouble. I was never able to enforce the fact that you shouldn't break rules enough, I just hope you hear my voice reminding you not to when the temptation to misbehave is offered. The ghetto is the same as always, dirty and full of crime. Kara is good, she found a raccoon on the street and is now obsessed with taking care of it. Feeds it every day, named it Davie. Eden is jealous of the fact you got to go to Hogwarts, he wants to go and can't wait. In two years I suppose he'll be joining you, and three years after that Kara will.

Missing my little lion,
Meredith Thompson

Rorie smiled at the old nickname. Lion, she was called by her siblings and mother, and her father when he was with them. It was because of her name, Rorie. Ironic that she was also placed in Griffindor.

She noticed her eyes watering, starting to tear up. Rorie never cried. In the ghetto if you cried it was a sign of weakness and made you easy prey.

Rorie stuffed the note in her pocket and pulled out a blank piece of parchment to write her response, sitting down on the steps and petting the owl. She noticed other kids milling about the owlery, but didn't bother starting a conversation. She was too busy writing to her mother.

Sonya walked up the steps of the owlery with three letters in her hand, one for her father, one for her aunt, and one for her close cousin. She had to try not to confuse her aunt and cousin, as they were muggles, but the letter addressed to her father was fairly straight forward.

The letters were as follows:

Pa,
Hello! How have you been getting along without me? I'm missing you very much, but Hogwarts has enough excitement to distract me from the homesickness. Anyways, I've been sorted into Hufflepuff! It's a very nice house, the common room is cozy and the people are friendly. I hope to hear from you soon.
Your Daughter,
Sonya

My Dearest Aunt Rebecca,
Hello Auntie Becca! I miss you and the twins very much! I'm having a great time at Hogwarts, learning a lot and meeting a lot of new people. How's life in New York? Any new musicals I should know about! Write back soon!
Lots of love,
Sonya

Vanessa,
Hi! My new school, Hogwarts, has been fun so far, lot of new faces! How is your new school? I miss you very much. I can't wait to visit you as soon as I can!
Your cousin and best friend,
Sonya

As Sonya approached the owlery she noticed Rorie, a pleasant girl who she met on the Hogwarts Express, siting on the steps with a piece of parchment.

"Hey Rorie! How've you been?"

"Life is never what you plan"

Watching the school owl fly up and out of the owlery after she tied the letter to it's leg, Rorie was amazed. The owl was just so majestic and mythical. The realm of Hogwarts was fascinating for the muggle-born.

She heard a familiar voice that belonged to Sonya Carlson.
"Hey Rorie! How've you been?" she said.
Rorie looked down from where she had been observing the owl slowly fading into the distance, smiling widely.

"Hi Sonya! I'm absolutely wonderful today, aren't you? The french toast I had for breakfast was soooooo good and then all my classes went really well, even transfiguration!" Rorie was very energetic and happy today, practically bouncing up and down with joy.

Something weird about Rorie was that she seemed to have the most optimistic and happy personality in the world a lot of the time.

As Rorie pulled out another piece of parchment, as she was going to write to her siblings separate from her mother, she asked Sonya, "What are you doing here on this amazing day?"

Rorie could be considered a romantic. Not in the way of liking relationships between two people, but in the way that she often found the most ideal things in a situation and focused on those, putting a lot of drama and emotion and detail into what she behaved like and said.

And today she was feeling extra happy.

Sonya giggled at the over enthusiastic response, "I'm just sending these letters home," she explained what she was doing there, "I wrote three, one for my father, one for my aunt, and one for my cousin. My aunt and cousin are muggles so I'm just sending them all to my father and he'll send their letters through the muggle mail system. Hopefully their notes are simple enough so they won't be confused by Hogwarts," she laughed, knowing that if she went into detail in the letters they would both be extremely confused by wizard culture.

Sonya looked at all the school owls and picked out a brown spotted owl. She pet it a couple times and then tied the letters to its leg and sent it on it's way.

"How's Hogwarts been so far for you?" she asked Rorie, "Congratulations on being sorted into Gryffindor." She smiled at her friend enthusiastically, she loved Hufflepuff but the people in Gryffindor seem nice as well.

She gazed out the window at the several owls that were flying around. She was still impressed with all the views at Hogwarts on the daily. She turned her attention back to Rorie yet again, "Hopefully you're getting along well with your housemates."

“Uh, well, that could be debated. There’s a girl named Anastasia Beckett that I can’t tolerate, and she can’t tolerate me either. Nothing much has been done in that category, we still hate each other.”

Route said to Sonya as she scribbled down on her parchment.

Kara and Eden,

I miss you little munchkins and I miss home. Hogwarts is great, you’ll like it here when you come. For now you just get to be jealous, though. Take care of mum and yourselves. And Eden, you need to take care of Kara too. When mum gets stressed out it’s your job to make sure everything is under control, I can’t do that now that I live miles and miles away. I will try to come back home as soon as I can, but in the mean time, I miss you guys! Stay safe and be bold!

Love,
Rorie

“I just wrote a letter to my little brother and sister. They’re ungrateful and annoying little ones but I can’t help loving them.” Rorie said as she tied the next letter onto another owl and set it free.

“Hogwarts just amazes me. The magic, the castle, the people, even the owls. Every stone that is a part of the castle holds a secret.”

Rorie watched the owl fly out of sight fondly.

Sonya looked off as Rorie's owl took flight into the distance. "Never ceases to amaze me," she said fondly, "It's nice that you're keeping in touch with your family."

Sonya walked to the other side of the room where there was some spare parchment and ink, "I might as well send letters to my uncles as well," she sighed. Although she wasn't as homesick as most students are, she still missed her family and really wanted to hear from them. Her family may be scattered and different than most but they were still close and important to her.

She sat down and started writing a letter.
Uncle Eddie,
How are you doing? Hogwarts is lovely. I got into Hufflepuff. You'd love all the scenery here, it's so beautiful. I hope your art show went well, I mean of course it did, you're amazing. Write soon!
Your dear niece,
Sonya

She then wrote another one to her uncle Steven.
Uncle Steven,
Hogwarts is great! You better not be getting into any trouble without me. I got into Hufflepuff, you won the bet, make sure uncle Steven gives you your ten euros. Write soon!
Always yours,
Sonya

She then looked back at Rorie, "So tell me about this Anastasia."

“Ah, well, my mother gets stressed if I don’t write to her, seeing as she knows nothing about the magical world,” Rorie said, trailing off. She was going to say that her mum was very overprotective and worried ever since her father left, but she didn’t want to bring down her playful spirit.

“Well, I was in the common room after coming back from working for the headmaster. I do that to get some extra money to send home and help my mother, she struggles with that sort of stuff. Anyways, I ask her if I can sit down on the other side of the couch she’s on, and she says, ‘I guess, I don’t own the couch’, which, paired along with her wealthy outfit and nature, have me the alert of a stuck up rich girl. Obviously she had felt disgust upon seeing me because I came from a ghetto, so we did not click at all. Polar opposites, and opposites don’t really attract, in my opinion. So we had a battle of wits and everything. She’s just- “ Rorie paused, trying to think of a good word to describe Beckett, “So snotty and arrogant.”

Rorie snapped out of the thought she had been in when thinking about how much she disliked Anastasia.
