Letters To Mom
Lorelai bit her lip as she handed the letter she had so carefully written for her mother to one of the brown school owls. She watched intently as he flew to his destination, a small apartment in the heart of London. She knew what she was going to say to her mom was better not as a letter but in person, but she couldn't wait. She just needed to know answers. About her father. After she had learned more information about him at the sorting ceremony, it was impossible for her to wait. 'Next, I'll check the records in the library'She thought to herself. 'After I see what my mom tells me...'
Lorelai smiled. She knew a little more, and it was more than her mother had ever told her before. And she had a name. Angus Quinn. Now, she knew what she was going to do. Go to the school records and find out more. Maybe she would contact him. Maybe she would have a father for once in her life. So many maybes flooded her head and she was filled with excitement and determination. She wondered what he was like. Probably great if her mother loved him so much right?
But why would he leave? Why would he do this to her mother? To her? She knew he didn't even know of her existence but who could leave. Lorelai couldn't convince herself to dislike her father, however. She was too optimistic about the situation. There must have been a good reason. There's no other way. Could he have died? The thought crossed her mind. No, her mother made it sound like he was still alive. She would have told her if he had died right? What if she didn't know and he did? And her newfound father was snatched right out of her hands once more. She shook her head. This was no way to think if she was ever going to meet her father. And she was going to. There was no stopping her.
Lorelai stuffed the letter back in the torn envelope and slipped it into the pocket of her robe. She quickly left the owlery, to go on with her day as usual. However, the whole day she couldn't shake a smile off of her face. Today was a good day.
Sure enough two weeks later, a letter popped into her hand. This one from her new family owl, Pyro. She wanted to take him to school but her mother thought it was better he stayed with her. Lorelai didn't try to fight it. She wanted a cat more anyways. She couldn't wait any longer to read it, however. So she patted the Barred Owl before he flew away. She opened the letter quick and messily, tearing the corners a little by accident. She read it slowly out loud, taking in every word.Dear Maman,
I’m pleased to announce that I’m doing well at Hogwarts. You didn’t need to worry, everyone has been so nice. It isn’t like my old school or anything, people are very friendly. There’s a bad apple here and there but overall I love it here! I’ve already made more friends than I thought I would ever make in my life!
I miss you though. Have we ever been apart this long? I don’t think we have ever. How is everything? Is it okay? How is your new job? How is Pyro?
I do have a reason I’m sending you this, other than to catch up. I have a few questions about my father. I know it makes you uncomfortable to talk about him, but I need to know. It’s clawing at me. The sorting hat said something when I first got here. He said I was a Gryffindor like the rest of the Quinn family. Is that my father’s last name? You’ve been avoiding this for so long and I feel like I deserve answers.
I love you so much,
Lorelai
Chérie Lorelai,
Je vais bien. Ne t'inquiète jamais pour moi. Tu as raison.
Il me tient compagnie. Tu me manques tellement. J'espère que vous continuez à envoyer vos pauvres lettres de mère.
Maman

Dear Lorelai,
I am doing well. Don’t ever worry about me. You’re right. You deserve to have answers. But, I don’t know how much I’m willing to talk about yet. I hope you understand. I will tell you everything soon, I promise.
I will tell you some about him. His name was Angus Quinn. When I came to England I met him, he had come from Ireland for a job. We fell deeply in love. I thought we would get married. Shortly after I got pregnant, he left. He was gone before I told him. As far as I know, he doesn’t know you exist. I don’t know where he is. I don’t think you’ll be able to find him.
That’s all I will talk about for now. Pyro is doing well, I’m sure you’ll see him when he sends you this letter. I haven’t had an owl in a very long time, so it's strange for me, but I enjoy him very much. He’s keeping me company. I miss you so much as well. I hope you continue to send your poor mother letters.
