Darius was running through the corridors, happy and anxious at the same time. His legs wouldn't listen to him, nor his pounding heart or his sweating skin. The boy went upstairs as fast as he could, unusually impatient.
If there was one thing Darius loved most about his life in Hogwarts, apart from the meals, that thing was the Owlery. A place where he could wait all day for the school owl to deliver his letter, coming from Manchester. He loved opening his letters, smelling the nice and rustic fragrance of home and reading his aunt's words over and over. He always kept his letters underneath his mattress, so no one could touch or see them. They were too precious.
His aunt always wrote with a night blue ink on a yellowish paper, delivering his letters every morning to greet his nephews: Darius and his older brother.
Darius' aunt has always been like a mother to him, despite her advanced age, so every single word of her made him feel loved. He knew he had someone who truly loved him outside Hogwarts, someone he could count on when he was sad or when he needed comfort.
But that day, something was wrong.
Darius felt so anxious because his aunt skipped several days and he didn't receive any letter. So when he found out that one had finally arrived, he didn't know what to think.
As soon as he reached the Owlery, he opened the letter and started reading it.
His anxiety soon became shock when he realized that letter wasn't from his aunt.
In a few seconds, Darius' teardrops started falling on the paper. He couldn't believe what he had just read.
He just couldn't.
His body was moved by his silent sobbing, his shoulders began to shake.
His mother seldom talked to him or his sibling, and now...
He didn't even notice his friend, Arya, who was coming towards him.

Darius,
I'm writing this letter to let you know your aunt won't probably send you any letters for a while. If you're lucky.
She had a severe stroke the other day, I'm at the hospital with her. She's still sleeping, the doctors say she probably won't be able to move anymore.
She's not in a life-threatening state right now, so don't worry. I also warned your brother first.
I know how much you're fond of your aunt, but try not to worry that much. That's the last thing we need right now.
Sincerely,
Your Mother

That day, the girl was slowly exploring the castle. It has been a while since she had only walked calmly in the corridors and she was enjoying this moment. The corridors were really pretty for the young girl that had a passion for older building and history. She loved to hear about this subject of both of the worlds she was part of. Unfortunately, history was known for being sad and tragic so she hated those aspects of it. She wanted to believe that one day, peace could stay. But she was rational and knew it would not happen any soon.
Sighing, the girl decided to go in the Owlery. Maybe she had finally received a letter from her sister. It's has been a while now and still, nothing was coming. She got told to be brave and wait, but it was getting difficult to be separated from her other half. The only thing she wanted was to be able to see the face of her twin sister. The girl was about to turn in a new corridor that would get her to the Owlery when someone almost ran into her. A gasp escaped her mouth. This person did not even stop to apologize. They were clearly running at the same place she was going. After a moment, she regains composure of herself and realizes this person was Darius, one of her best friend. Why was he running to the Owlery like his life depended on it? Curiously, Arya decided to follow him. It was giving her another reason to go into this room full of owls.
After walking up into the stairs, Arya arrived at the top and opened the wood door that was leading to the desired places. She then saw her friend standing in the middle of the room while looking at a letter he probably just got. She was starting to walk toward him but something stopped her in her way. Her friend was not smiling, he was not the usual kind soul. Darius was crying and the atmosphere around him was so sad it broke the heart of the young witch. What could have possibly made him so sad? Slowly, she walked closer to him and put a hand on his shaking shoulder.
-Hey... Darius? Are you okay?
Clearly, he was not but she did not know what to ask him other than this. The poor boy was crying and it hurt her inside. Arya liked him a lot. Together with Isaiah, they were having the best adventure possible. She also felt close to him. The boy was important to her and she finds it hard to see him like this.

Darius immediately jumped as soon as his best friend rested her hand on the boy's shaking shoulder. He opened his watery eyes wide, he didn't see her coming. He didn't notice anything, actually, because he was extremely focused on the letter and his thoughts. He didn't even see her when he almost hit her in the corridors while he was running to the Owlery.
When he read that letter, he felt like his mind passed out for a moment in shock. He couldn't believe it. Yes, he was anxious while waiting for the letter, but he didn't think about such a severe accident.
'Stroke', he heard that word just a few times during his short life.
And now that almost unknown word was making his eyes shed most of the water he had in his body.
Actually, the boy wasn't calm from the start. His brother's condition was already making him feel bad and hopeless, and now his beloved aunt too?
He wouldn't have received anymore her letters, nor her greetings, nor her lovely advice. He didn't care at all about the money, he just wanted to see her again.
Maybe life was trying him, he thought.
"Arya, I-I'm..."
Darius turned his head to look at her, trying to smile as hard as he could, but he just couldn't: his lips were shaking too much.
He tried to wipe away his tears with his sleeve, but more tears replaced the dry ones and the sobbing made his nose runny and his mouth drooly.
Darius didn't want to look sad, nor hopeless, nor even desperate sometimes, even when he actually felt like that. Not because of pride or anything, he just didn't want to fall in front of his friend, especially his best friend Arya.
He wanted to be a bright sun for those who looked up at him, so he had to be strong for his friends, his family and, most of all, himself.
