Wyatt didn't remember it being this difficult writing a letter. But it was different this time, right? Was he overreacting or was asking someone to the dance supposed to be this scary? Half of him was terrified that he was actually thinking about going to another Hogwarts dance after that Blossom Ball, and the other half of him was horrified he was actually trying to ask a person to go with him.
Lindsey,

Though I'm sure you've already found a date for the dance in six days

Wyatt stopped writing. Don't be an idiot, he thought to himself. Why would you need to say "in six days? Everyone knows when the dance is. This was so tiring. Wyatt knew he wasn't going to get it right on the first try, but how many more tries was it going to take? What if those Gryffindors came to the owlery and saw him writing an invitation to a school dance? Wyatt cleared his head and got new parchment.
Lindsey,

Though I'm sure you've already found a date for the dance, I'm owling you with the selfish hope you haven't. This is because I'd like to go with you. If you'd join me on the sixteenth, it would make me the luckiest student at Hogwarts. Of course, that is only if you'd like to see me and if you haven't met someone.

Wyatt stopped writing and put his face in his hands. Do you think she's an idiot, he thought to himself. You don't need to spell it out to her! Get rid of that second sentence. So Wyatt crossed out that sentence exactly. There were a few more changes. Things added, things removed. Finally, Wyatt wrote an invitation he was maybe sort of a little bit okay with. He'd been in the owlery for two hours, then.
Lindsey,

If you've already gotten an invitation, feel free to throw this out without thinking, but please give this letter a chance if you haven't found a date to the dance yet.

I've never met someone as kind, talented, and outgoing as you. You seem to make the people around you not only happier but better. You're all I could hope to be. Even if you decide to take someone else to the dance, go alone, or not go at all, I'd like you to know that I admire you. You're brilliant, and if you agreed to go to the dance with me, I'd be the luckiest student at Hogwarts.

Letter addressing to @Wyatt Starkey
It was rare for Lindsey to receive a letter. Or you may say, except summer holidays, she never got one. But now it seemed that she was doing well. Or exceedingly, since an owl had arrived, during the time she was in the Owlery, preparing to send her French cousins a letter. Now, the letter sender suddenly became a receiver. What a coincidence.

Slowly she opened the envelope. It was an invitation. An invitation to the upcoming ball. Almost everybody in the school was talking about it, and was excited about it. But she wasn’t. Nobody would invite her, right? At least Lindsey convinced herself so. She was not very popular in the school, nor had she met many boys who might invite her.

But no. Someone came up to her mind. She knew deep in her heart she wished someone could invite her. Someone…she had met about half a month ago. She didn’t dare to speak it out, for…nothing. Just, maybe it wasn’t the right time. Somehow she regretted that she hadn’t invited him when they first met, but there’s no way to regret now. She was already invited.

It’s possible to turn the invitation down, right? But wait…she had just finished reading the first line. Someone admired her?! Impossible…impossible…who could it be? Was she, like what the letter regarded, brilliant? She had no idea about it.

The worst. It wasn’t signed.

“Do me the favor of telling me the sender, alright?” she inquired the owl which delivered the letter. Lindsey knew clearly that it could not reply. But she still wished to ask. It squeaked, as if declared that it was listening. “Wy-Wyatt?” Before even thinking what she was doing, she uttered the name out. The only name in her mind.

It was a surprise that the owl squeaked again. “Am—am I right, by all means?” heart beating fast, she asked the bird again. You are so dump. Why ask a bird? she told herself, trying to convince that she was wrong. No, it couldn’t be…

With delight the owl squeaked, and tapped its claw against the windowsill. “O-okay…” muttering, she picked up a quill. Replying time. But what would she say? Plainly say yes? Or…say “I’d love to”?

Finally she finished the 5th version of the reply. “Take it to Wyatt. Don’t…don’t send it to the wrong person.” she added quickly. Watching the owl flew away, Lindsey left the Owlery and headed for the Hufflepuff common room.

Hopefully the owl was smart enough to make sure that the sender was indeed the black eyed boy. Hopefully.

Dear Wyatt,

Please do not ask how I know the sender’s you although obviously you forgot to sign. You could just regard that it’s because of magic. Hogwarts itself it’s magical, so guess that’s why I figured out who the sender is.

Just wanna say, I accept the invitation. I’m really really glad to have a fantastic date like you, so I would definitely be meeting you at the ball on the 16th. Every time when I see you or think of you, you make me calm down, give me strength and motivation. You are one of the best people I’ve met so far. It’s such a pleasure to receive your invitation to the dance.

Again, hope to see you at the masquerade ball!

With love,
Lindsey

All at once, a wave of dread and excitement crashed over Wyatt as his eyes scanned the words on the paper. Of course, being the idiot he was, he had forgotten to sign his name, but miraculously, Lindsey knew it was him. She'd accepted his invitation which was odd alone. Still, it was not the weirdest thing in her letter. Another strange touch was that the way she wrote her reply suggested she was happy to be getting Wyatt's invitation.

Being the good person she was, the letter she sent Wyatt said such kind things. "Just wanna say, I accept the invitation. I’m really really glad to have a fantastic date like you, so I would definitely be meeting you at the ball on the 16th. Every time when I see you or think of you, you make me calm down, give me strength and motivation. You are one of the best people I’ve met so far. It’s such a pleasure to receive your invitation to the dance."

Something was wrong. So wrong. She knew nothing about the real Wyatt Starkey. The kid who was ruthlessly mean to anyone who looked at him funny, the kid who would curse his fellow students at the end of arguments he thought he might lose, the kid who kicked Alec J. Mason to the ground when all the Gryffindor did to "deserve it" was push Wyatt. He was not one of the best people Lindsey had ever met. Not even close.

If one thing was clear from the start, it was that Wyatt was not even close to being good enough for Lindsey. A brilliant Hufflepuff. A talented, kind-hearted person. One day she'll find out how awful I am and she'll never talk to me again, Wyatt thought. But it was too late. He'd written the invitation. She'd accepted it. He had to go to the dance now, even if he knew that one day she would hate him like just like everyone else.
