It was Saturday. In two days the holidays would actually be over, the classes would beginn. Exciting for the new first years, a continuation of how it should be for Opeila. She could remember how excited she had been when she first arrived at Hogwarts. She couldn't wait to explore the castle and learn magic, to actually use that stick she bought. Now that she had done nothing else for a year, the excitement was gone and that stick had turned into a necessary survival tool.@Katherine Labrouder5. September
This year she would spend more time on practical training, less on the theory. The last year she had spent hours and hours in the library, learning for homework and exams. Now, after the attacks, she reaized how wrong her priorities had been. What did grades matter, when she needed the spells to defend herself for real? Nothing, nothing and nothing again.
The second year had decided to spend this last saturday to walk through the castle a little, explore her home once more. Hogwarts seemed to change all the time and now she had been gone for over a month. Why would it be the same as when she left?
First she had been surprised when her cat followed her out of the common room. Normaly Loras avoided his owner, at home he had mostly been hiding in Lady Margary's part of the house. But after Opeila's grandmother died and after they had to move to Finland, something had changed between them. It was only after a few days that Opeila had realized that it was big changes for Loras all the time as well. Only Opeila was a constant in the cat's life and what good was it to be at war with the only constant one had?
While walking through the castle, Opeila caught herself going through her finnish vocabulary, trying to memorize some of the harder words. Terve... Tervetuloa... The Slytherin shook her head. There was no need to bother about it now. She wouldn't need to talk finnish to anyone here at Hogwarts, except when Airlia insisted on it.
Loras and Opeila were walking through the fifth floor, when the cat suddenly ran off. "Loras? What-" The Slytherin followed him with her eyes, until she realized that she knew where the staircase led he was running up. It was the owlery. "Oh no, oh no... Loras, come back!", she shouted after him, following him into the west tower.
Before arriving at the top, she could already hear the sound of hectic flattering wings. There he was, standing in the middle of the owlery, staring at a brown bird. His tail moved from one side to the other. "Loras!" His head turned, facing his owner now. "Come on, I am not in the mood to chase you around. Please?" The girl reached into her pocket for some cat treats and crouched down. She stretched out her hand in his direction. "Come on..."

It was saturday and katherine had lots to do,she had lots of homework and owling ,she had just finished her last owl and had to go to the owlery to send it.she was frustrated and needed a break from all the writing, her hands hurt her and her handwriting was hideous because of all the pressure she put on her work.
She took a break to take her letters to the owelry, she piled them up and in order.she wore her green shirt and her favorite black sweatpants and fury slippers, she then took her pile of letters and headed out of her room and locked it.she was pacing to get to the owelry with lots of stress about finishing her work and about other events her head was all over the place until she heard some weird noise coming from the place she was headed, she thought that she was hallucinating from all her stress that she might have gotten crazy!
she ignored as much as she could until she decided to follow it and it certainly was coming from the owlery ,she wasn't going crazy ,she kept pacing to the owlery.Till she got there the place was messed up it was horrendous.Everything was out of its place like someone ripped all the letters into shreds and there were feathers everywhere like a bunch of people were having some sort of violent pillow fight were all the feathers from there pillows just exploded it was chaotic. But katherine noticed a girl trying to get something to come to it ,Katherine then looked at the direction the girl was looking at and noticed a cat that was running away it must have been the girl pet but it seems that her pet escaped from her and decided to cause chaos in the owelry.
Thankfully something to take katherines mind off all the stress on her shoulders. She took a few steps in the owlery and asked the girl "um hey i know this is a stupid question but..uh do u need any help cause it looks like it", she then continued"what did u do so the cat would do all this ",katherine snickered waiting for the girls response
sorry for taking a month to respond i finally got the motivation and i got some free time.

Opeila didn't notice the girl entering at first, she was too concentrated trying to lure the little furball close enough for her to grab him. She still held her hand in his direction, focusing. Not blinking, not looking away, wasn't that how one got them? Or was that dogs? Whatever, it was worth a try before he could destroy the owlery. Or the owls, who were probably the stronger party here, decided to attack back. This cat really didn't know when it was time to stop before he would get killed. Probably copied that behaviour from his owner...
It was only when the brunette heard a voice near her that she turned around. And broke the... well sort of eye contact hypnosis she tried to get her cat with? Immediately Loras stormed off again, trying to climb up a wall to a group of owls eyeing him suspiciously.
The girl said that it was a stupid question and asked if she needed help. If you realize it is a dumb question before asking it, why are you still asking it? "Well..." Opeila got up again. "I didn't until a second ago." She carefully went closer to the wall and climbing cat and then quickly grabbed the small animal. "Got you!"
She turned to the girl again, holding her cat now so he wouldn't run off again. "That has nothing to do with me. He just likes causing chaos. Little troublemaker." Her gaze fell on the letter in the girls' hands. "Writing home?" It had only been five days since they arrived. That girl had to be attached to her family if she already missed them so badly... They didn't even have classes or homework yet, the holidays would only end in two days. The stress would distract her quickly, the Slytherin was sure. If... If it was her family the girl was writing to... "I'm sorry, that's of course non of my business, you don't have to answer.", she quickly added. "You're a new first year, right? I'm Opeila Winters, a second year Slytherin.", she introduced herself.

As katherine waited for the girl,The girl responded to her but katherine felt it as a rude response maybe she was frustrated and god it was hard not to respond back to her,Katherine thought to herself so I try to be kind and that's what I get whatever I wont start problems i've already got enough on my plate, Katherine watched as the girl caught her cat and turned to katherine.
She said it wasn't her fault it was her cat being a troublemaker katherine grinned remembering her home cat but it turned to a snake due to katherine, the girl later asked if katherines writing home and soon before katherine could respond she apologised for being nosey katherine smirked and responded"its alright im not hiding anything, actually yes and no not to check on them just to inform them of my house and by the looks of it I think i'm getting a howler back", she said with a smirk god I was supposed to enter slytherin oh that stupid hat had just caused me family trouble by making me in gryffindor i've already disappointed them what could happen next.
Later on the girl introduced herself to katherine well at least she was friendly katherine responded proudly and confidently"yes indeed i'm a new first year and Im Katherine,Katherine labrouder gryffindor", she had no questions to ask her since katherine was a bit in her thought on giving the letter to that black family owl that stood there waiting for the letter in her hands,Instead she waited for the girl to start the conversation.

Opeila's eyebrows furrowed when the girl told her she was informing her parents about her new house and get a howler back. The Slytherin could remember her own mother's light disappointment over not being sorted into Ravenclaw like herself in her youth, but Opeila got over it quickly and so did her mother.
Never ever would her parents send her punishment for the person she was. That was pretty much what the house depended on, wasn't it? The person you were?
"Well that sounds very silly to me.", she told the girl. "Your parents would send you a howler because they don't like your house? Why are you informing them then? Also why would they not like your house? Gryffindor is nice. I have a few friends there."
The only ones who she had ever seen such aa harsh reaction from, was those stiff and proud pureblood families, who had often been sorted into Slytherin for generations. It seemed that many children that broke that tradition, felt like they did not fit in anymore. And there was Opeila, sorted into Slytherin and still not fitting in. It did not matter.
"Nice to meet you, Katherine.", she told the Gryffindor and smiled.

Katherine watched opeilas reaction to what she Kath had said, well Katherine usually didn't care but here we are. Well coming from a generation of Slytherins it would be more of a disappointment rather than a happy event, Katherine admired the girl's boldness but it could get her in trouble, Katherine was quite laid back she was more stoic yet with a hint of warmness in her icy blue eyes, The girl finally spoke her opinion, sounds silly well, of course, it was silly but try having a pure-blooded family who is very strict It wouldn't be very silly to them and the other stuff that came from her like not sending them not informing them one way or another they will find out it's better to face it upfront then hiding like a coward.
They wouldn't like Katherine's house because they were Slytherins and it wouldn't be nice to get banished and blasted off ur family tree, for Katherine it was quite strict of course they wouldn't go extreme to banish her immediately for something like that, but disobeying is also a bad thing, Katherine was never a coward to run from things she would face them upfront, Katherine just had a stoic face on nothing really, it didn't bother her much she just didn't care, she just had a straight face defining her sharp cheekbones and jawline. she really wasn't irritated nothing this little could irritate her. She spoke to the girl"Yes it might sound silly I agree but families like mine who come from generations into being sorted in Slytherin I don't think it sounds silly to them breaking tradition and I would never hide from them even if I did they would find out one way or another at this point I don't care if they send a howler or not its a simple thing to me, plus I don't quite fit in Gryffindor I have different traits than them, so it's hard to fit in, they have different ways I just simply don't fit",
Katherine simply didn't fit in Gryffindor as many say they are mostly hero wannabes who always want to save the day and be the greatest but were did kids like Katherine belong the ones who just don't want to be a hero, Katherine was the opposite of hero she just couldn't relate with the Gryffindor students she couldn't fit in with them which was hard for her, she was rebellious, cold and quite mean and let's not forget her half stoic self, Katherine just had to stick with herself and trust no one, But she wasn't there to explain herself, just to make small chat Katherine spoke "so second year you have been here longer than me hows everything so far", She looked at the Slytherin with warm eyes and a small smirk since she didn't smile and she made sure her eyes were warm enough she knew she could intimidate people with her icy sharp eyes, she was just waiting for the girl's response.

It was just like Opeila had figured already. Katherine came from a strict family, that seemed to see it as treason, when their child was not exactly like them.
The Slytherin never liked that. She knew her grandmother and her mother both came from a background like that and her mother broke with the tradition. And her grandmother loved her enough to help and support her. In a different world, Opeila would be just like Katherine.
What Opeila did not like, was Katherines general attitude towards her house. She was here, at Hogwarts for not even a week and decided that she was not like them. That she didn't fit in. For Opeila this seemed like a very arrogant thing to say. If Katherine didn't want to fit in, she wouldn't.
"Oh they are all different from you? Have you talked to all of them? You are at Hogwarts for less than a week and judging your house as a whole. If you don't want to fit in, Katherine, if you don't want to understand them, nor to be understood by them, you will not fit in and won't have anyone. All of Hogwarts is now your home, but the most time you will still spend in you house. Your common room. So you might as well try and make friends.", she told Katherine, maybe a little harshly. For that sort of talk Opeila had no patience or compassion. "Is that a belief that your parents talked you into as well?", she asked a little friendlier again.
Katherine asked her how things were so far. Frightening? Dark? Deathly? Opeila could have found more adjectives that described her current feelings towards Hogwarts, but that was nothing she would tell the first year. "Hogwarts is intense. More amazing and dangerouse than every other place I have ever seen. You do well to pay attention in class and practice your spells out of class as well, you will probably need them."

Katherine just heard the Slytherin speak a bit harshly protecting the Gryffindors, poor her Katherine thought pathetic. she couldn't help but want to burst out laughing really, alright her parents might have a bit. But Katherine couldn't stand certain Gryffindors. Some of them were just a disgrace to the house, well that was something but it didn't affect Katherine really just made her want to laugh out loud.
Please Katherine doesn't need to change to fit into some hero wannabes, she wasn't going to change herself for them either they accept her ways or not, she doesn't take rules she makes them, her family always taught her to command; not to be commanded. she just raised her eyebrow and smirked. who was she to tell her what to do, exactly no one well at least no one important for Katherine.
Kath thought that the Slytherin was too curious she admired it yet wanted to just tell her to shut the hell up. either way, she thought it but she was sure she didn't show it, she had her stoic face on and her sharp icy eyes on her, not caring if it intimidated her. so far she didn't care about all the Hogwarts is your home stuff neither your house is your family. In the end, Kath rides solo without anyone she doesn't need them.
Katherine isn't a puzzle to be understood she is an idea quite like a state of mind, she didn't care about a single word that came out of that pathetic girl's mouth she just simply didn't show it and its something she was good at. she just gave her a smirk, she spoke back to her in a humorous way " even if my parents talked me in it or not, everyone has their opinion its mine of course not all of them are pathetic idiots, they're all known to be what's it called..", hero wannabes"heroes and that's not me, I apologise if I triggered you but I simply don't fancy them, secondly I'm, not a puzzle to be solved or understood Im many things, I'm an idea even a state of mind, to understand me you will need many years I assure you",
She paused and gave a little grin back to opeila, Katherine knew that what she said might trigger her, it was like a show and she enjoyed it. she spoke again" I don't need company from the Gryffindors so I won't be alone, I don't care about being alone actually, as you said I have all of Hogwarts to choose from not only Gryffindors, so technically I can choose anyone but Gryffindor if I wanted to , after all, it's my opinion", she gave a little smirk but she enjoyed ruffling the Slytherins feathers.
Opeila had answered her question, but nothing interesting all about how its amazing and dangerous, Katherine liked that it was dangerous but other than that she couldn't help but yawn internally, all advice about classes and blah blah blah. She hid it but giving her an interesting look as if she actually was interested in classes and other boring stuff she said. Well, Katherine expected a warning like be careful it's dark and cruel, sinister. But she didn't mention anything like that, Katherine spoke with a smirk" will do thanks",

The girl was putting on a good show, Opeila had to admit. She wore that mask of hers like she never did another thing- which was probably the case as well- but still, the way she just stood there and looked at her without reacting too much, made clear to Opeila that she shut down. No reaction was one of it's own, a perfect mask could also be too perfect. Opeila learned to watch those details in her first year.
Opeila could barely force the irritation down that increased with every word this little wannabe superior said. This was her opinion, as everyone had their own? They were all known to be heroes? She was no puzzle but a state of mind? Well wasn't someone taking themself a little to important there...
"Well, choose then. If house is, what makes you reject people, if you care about things that shallow, you will get that same shallow care back. What makes you think I want to understand you. I'm not interested really, what you say right now just disgusts me.
Everyone has an opinion, so you decide to dislike you whole house. Based on a rumour you heard... where exactly?", Opeila asked.
She thought about her friend Ruka, who had lost his father and still fought on. Alan, the shy boy, who stuttered a lot when he talked. As if they were people who had no struggles like everyone else. Some even more. Katherine's general judgement very much annoyed her.
"Do you know, what I think? You are exactly where you belong. Getting into your world image for a moment, Gryffindors all want to be heroes. Now, I begin to hope that you get to live through at least one of the horrors the rest of us experienced last year, to understand, that rhis heroism, that you seem to see as self-created glory, is freaking horror. That this heroism requires teamwork and real courage, skills I don't think you possess. I mean, feel free to prove me wrong. Your talking about people needing years to understand you, your whole attitude screams to me, that you feel yourself higher. Above others. Do you see those two paths crossing? Maybe your house can get you down ro earth again. Maybe your house is meant to give you skills you have a severe lack of." Opeila shook her head. "The Sorting Hat sorted students for hundreds of years. It won't make a mistake and suddenly sort you wrong. But you were taught to expect differently of yourself I assume."
Her facial expression again turned a little friendlier- not friendly, but also not as disgusted anymore. "I am in Slytherin because I am more cunning than most of my other personality aspects, but I think I could have become a Gryffindor as well. My strengths weighed just higher on this side. I have a strong sense of fairness and guilt and I would always defend my friends. Those are my Gryffindor skills, I believe. Does this sound like heroism to you? It does not to me. I'd rather put it into the loyalty category. You are rejecting loyal people there, by deciding that your house is unworthy over a rumour." Opeila rubbed her cat's neck. "Most of the people, who actually care about their friends, will give a damn about where you see yourself. Build yourself a throne of words if you like. It all doesn't matter here. Welcome to Hogwarts."
Opeila turned around and walked towards the exit. What an absolute brat.
Mentioning @Alan Vanes @Ruka Burnett-TânOpeila will most likely leave the thread next post.

Katherine heard the words opeila had to say and god was she giving Kath a lecture, well Katherine thought it was sweet and ridiculous, she wanted to laugh and that's what she did, She laughed out at the girl's words, poor opeila thinking she would break Katherine's high built walls, try to put sense into her.
Katherine was one consumed by her beliefs, Who was she to give Katherine a lecture, she was nothing, no one just a simple girl who is way low for Katherine right under her, well for one opeila had guts to speak to her like that, maybe too much guts. To katherines eyes she was nothing but a paranoid little kitten, who was too afraid to face the real world.
Well if Katherine's thoughts could speak to opeila right now they would say wake up darling life is scary it's not supposed to be all easy wake up its reality it's not only in Hogwarts. The girl obviously looked like she was traumatized, oh poor little kitten thinking she could face this ugly world by spreading political arguments about Hogwarts houses.
That was what made Katherine laugh, she was laughing at opeilas words just after she asked her the questions, attempting to put her in her place Katherine took a huge step in front of opeila, her ice-cold, sharp and intimidating eyes focused on her like a predator to his prey, her face dropped from pure laughter to a straight cold and stoic face zero emotion.
she spoke"Well yes I am higher than people especially you for one, I don't Know who you bloody think you are giving pathetic political speeches to me, But I certainly don't give two damns about this shitty speech you give me, my Hogwarts house can burn in seven layers of hell for all I care they can screw themselves whether you like it or not, Because kitten when it comes to the end I shall protect myself and survive by myself always and forever not some useless crap of a house",
she paused now looking straight into opeilas eyes as if looking through her sacred soul, All Katherine could see was a broken, pathetic paranoid little girl. Katherine could be her little nightmare if she wanted to, But god opeila was just a little kitten and all Katherine is doing is just playing with her, Katherine gave opeila her last words before leaving, she spoke them with a grin.
"call me what you want, But I.DONT.CARE, I didn't listen to a crappy word you said so save your breathe little kitten, Because if I were you ide cherish every single one, who knows when you might drop dead, I for one would pay to watch that",
Leaving opeila with a devilish smirk, Katherine bumped into opeilas shoulder and walked out of there listening to whatever words she had to part yet not caring what they were then leaving, This girl is too pathetic, weak and scarred for her own good, she didn't need to know her to understand how broken she was, her eyes showed trauma and maybe more disgust.
But Katherine learnt the art of not giving a damn thanks to great old father, the art of being fully stoic to the point were words would go into one ear and out the other, Opeila didn't piss Katherine off, all she was to Katherine was a little kitten and Kath would play with her, It was fun to ruffle her feathers, show opeilas true self. She was useless to Katherine making her an ally would cause nothing but breaking opeila even more, so all Katherine has to say is so long for now.
