It's Halloween! Pv Flash closed

27th October
Opeila was torn. Should she or should she not? She turned a letter between her fingers, walking up and down the owlery. It was silly to send her best friend a letter actually, they were both in the same house, but Opeila was scared. When on earth did she start to be scared when thinking of Flash? Last year she had only felt protected.

Maybe because of this protected, this safe feeling she got when being around him. She couldn't afford feeling safe, when she wasn't. If anything happened to him because she had been unable to control herself, how would she ever forgive herself? Never.
Flash belonged in a safe world, where he had power over the things that happened to him and his friends. Not this chaos that Opeila was very lost in.

But she decided to send the letter anyway. Opeila wouldn't wait until Flash realized that she was avoiding him, on the contrary, if he thought that, she had to destroy that thought. He couldn't be worried about her. So she had to be fine and happy. Exactly that she would be when- if he went to do the errand with her.
And of course Halloween was nothing she would miss, not this year.
Hey Flash!

Now, how long didn't we spend time together? Must be since we left the train. I don't know how you feel about that, but I think we should do something.
Here's a thought- It's Halloween! I've heard that some professors organized a Halloween errand. What do you think? Got a costume? I'll be in the ballroom at 7pm, I'm not gonna miss another Halloween, but I'd be very happy if we could use this opportunity to do something fun together. I feel like that doesn't happen often enough (and yeah, that one is on me, I guess, I'm a mood killer... But I think I've improved! :P)

Flash had received a few notes from Opeila over the last year, but it was still a surprise to see. Perhaps it was the fact that they hadn't been spending nearly half as much time together as they had before. He used to be at her side at every errand, every activity or event she planned, without having given it much thought. Things had changed by the end of the year, however. He started pleading with her to be more careful, she started telling him less and running into danger without him.

It wasn't on purpose that their distance had grown, but it had. He had to admit, he missed her mischievous energy, as frantic as it sometimes was. Being invited to an errand by her felt somehow nostalgic, even though truth be told they had known each other less than a year. Still, they had been through so much. Too much.

As was his tendency, he wrote back the moment he had time to. He didn't like to leave anyone waiting on his reply. At this point, it would likely raise alarm bells if one didn't get an answer back by the end of the day. He was never too busy to drop by the owlery if he needed to.
[font=Monotype Corsiva]Dear Opeila,

I agree completely, please always call on me when you feel we've been apart for too long. Sometimes it seems time is gone before I have time to make sense of it all. Now suddenly it's the end of October. I hope my absence hasn't caused you any trouble.

I would love to join you for a Halloween errand. I haven't had the time for them this year, though now that the ball is over I am a bit more free. I can't say I own a costume, however. Is that required? I might be able to borrow something from someone else if so. Someone about my size, ideally. I don't think I could walk around in a ridiculous tiny costume, not for any price.

Sorry for not being more in the Halloween spirit, but I never assumed a costume would be such an in-demand possession. What would I even dress as? I suppose it's obvious that I've never trick-or-treated before, though it's not some alien concept to me. We used to do something of the sort in my old boarding school, but it was mostly just going dorm-to-dorm and only a few put costumes on. Most students were back home too, so it felt more like a candy ring than actually asking for treats. I don't much like candy anyway.

Excuse me for rambling in my reply, perhaps it is because there is so much I would like to talk to you about. It will be nice to spend time together again. I hope we can allow ourselves to have fun, as you say. I'll certainly give it my best attempt.

Take care,

Opeila was extremely happy when she got Flash's reply. She didn't really realize, how much she missed him until now and she suddenly couldn't wait for Halloween anymore. Readying the letter- she could almost hear him saying the written words, the familiar formal tone. And the worrying about costumes... it was the best. Such a mundane worry, almost not fitting into the life she was living and Opeila welcomed it with open arms.
Flash would get a reply quickly.
Hey Flash,

You think so? I feel like the months never end, this year feels long to me. And no, your absence hasn't caused me any trouble, I simply miss spending time together!

Costumes- good point, I guess I will improvise a little with the clothes I have with me, I'm sure it will work out somehow. After all, it is luckily no fashion competition.
Now, how is it you never trick-or-treated? You missed out! I've done it in my early elementary school years, we used to walk around the houses in groups. My first time I went as a monster and somehow managed to lose my mask.

It will be a great evening, I am sure! Ballroom at 7pm works with you?

You too,
Opeila
Sailing a ship through a labyrinth of rocks. That was what this letter was and what the evening would probably be as well.
But seeing Flash was worth the effort a hundred times. And keeping Flash safe was worth the keeping secrets.
