Dear Breana,
Hello. I see you, like me, signed up for this program to meet new people at Hogwarts. I know that we both are in Ravenclaw, and I've seen you around, but since this is called 'Quill Palls,' I thought that maybe I'd send you a letter to start, especially since we have not talked before.
I got a bit of information about you when we were matched, but I would love to know more. I was born in Rye, England, and I am the only child of my parents, but my grandfather and grandmother live close by. Grandfather and Father work for our family business, Pipeline Plumbing, where they work as...you guessed it, plumbers. I love plumbing and miss being able to follow them around while they did their jobs. You usually will find me with some sort of tool because of this. I cannot wait for the summer when I can do more jobs again. Don't you ever wonder why all the toilets in Hogwarts always work so well? How do they never have plumbing issues? I've been owling Father and Grandfather about it, and they have no idea, either.
Because I'm a Muggleborn, I still feel like I'm adjusting to Hogwarts, even though the year's almost done. I did just join the Quidditch team, though I'm only second string Beater and still learning. While that's been fun, I really do miss home and my family. I don't understand how magic works around here, and I've always been one to solve problems, so it's been a hard transition. I do really like Transfiguration, though, because Professor Lian explains things in great detail, using one of my favorite concepts - Math! She's a bit fierce, but I love learning from her.
What about you? Where do you come from? Do you miss your family? What are your favorite classes? Looking forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Hogwarts

Dear Freya,
Hiay Salutat Wassu Nice to meet you, Freya! I've heard your name pop up around in classes, but I can't remember if I've seen you before. Well, I guess it's time to properly meet you now! Adn And in all honestly, I'd prefer writing letters and stuff. It's for the best, since I always get tongue tied, especially meeting up with new people and all that!
It must be so cool, having a family business that gets passed down like a tradition! I don't know much about toilets plumbing, but it is interesting to think about the plumbing here in Hogwarts. I even heard there's some abandoned ones in a certain area here...
Anyywa Anyways, a bit more info about meself! I grew up in Cockermouth, England, but I call it Cockadoodlemouth, 'cause it's funnier to say. I don't have any grandpap grandparents to visit to easily, since Dad's side lives way back in Portugal 'cause they retired and stuff. Back before I was born, they lived in Cockadoodlemouth too to let Dad live there. I guess it's cause it's prettier here than in Portugal, I guess? Mom doesn't talk about her family much. I barely get to see my Auntie and my cousins, so it's just the two three of us. My family has their own bookshop, but that's 'cause Dad's boss gave it to him before he moved away to his hometown too. It's really cozy, all of the walls are filled with books! I love going there on the weekends back then. I miss them a lot, and I can't wait for summer to roll in too, I hope Dad stocked the shop with new books! I try to get sneaky and "borrow" some of the books for sale.
I have the same feeling too! Though my mom is a witch herself, she kinda stopped getting into magic and all that to be with Dad. I dunno much od of the details after that... But yeah! Technically Muggleborn? Anyways, congrats on getting a Quidditch spot! Maybe you can tell me a thing or two about it? I'm not the most athletic gal out there, btu but it sounds cool, playing a sport that has magic in it. And don't worry, we got each other's backs now, since we're Quill Buddies! As for classes, I have a soft spot for Potions, since it's my Mom's best subject back in her Hogwarts days. I think I messed up with the homework for it, so I just hope the Professor isn't too harsh on it for me. I heard Transfiguration is the toughest subject for ust us First Years, but it's cool that you enjoy it! I really wanna work hard on that subject too, 'cause I heard you can turn into an animal in future years.
Speaking of animals, have you seen the pets people keep around here? I can't wait 'til I can get my own! Do you have your own pet? If not, what pet are you planning on getting? Hope to see your letter soon!
Your Quill Buddy,
Hogwarts

Dear Breana,
I kind of like the writing thing, as well. Does your tongue literally get tied? I heard that there's a spell that can make your tongue go into knots, though I hope that they won't teach us that! Imagine if the professors taught spells that could hurt other people?
There are abandoned toilets? I've wandered around the castle quite a bit, but there's just so much to see. Sometimes I feel like things move, and some of them move quite literally! Like the staircases, huh? The first time that happened, I was very scared. Mother and Father did not warn me that magic involved trick steps and talking paintings that weren't framed televisions.
Cockermouth is quite the name for a town. Do you guys have a lot of roosters there? Even though we are called Rye, we do not have much more bread than a normal town. Wow, though! Have you been to Portugal? The first time I left Rye was to visit Mum's family, but the city was a bit too much for me. And then of course I went to London and Diagon Alley and King's Cross to get ready for school, but...I dunno, sometimes I think just sticking around Rye is a bit easier. Especially cause the business's there and all.
I'm an only child too, how fun! Don't tell my parents, though, but I always kind of hope that they'll give me a brother or sister. It would be fun to help with something other than pipes -- wait, I take that back. Can I help with a baby and fix sinks at the same time? What's the youngest a kid has to be before you teach them how to install a bathtub? Maybe it would be easier to have a little sibling around if we ran a bookshop instead...hey, do you like to read? I love to read.
Do you sell magic books then, if your mum's a witch? I guess not, but what if there was some sort of secret passageway for all the magic books? Do they have any cool ones on the history of plumbing? Oh I would love to see it; we don't have many bookshops in Rye, cause it's small! That's kind of cool though that your mum still lived as a Muggle, I think I'd like to do that. My parents say that's silly, but maybe I'll write them and tell them that my Quill Pal told me that her mum's done it!
I played in my first game and we lost, but I got really scared 'cause Jorah fell off the broom and I thought I'd have to go in! Luckily someone else got him, cause I'm still learning! Maybe my next game I'll play and I'll have some real tips for you. Do you like sports? I didn't realize there were magic sports, but it's kind of fun to try something new, and dad's always told me I'm strong, cause of all that screwing.
Potions is cool and the professor seems nice! They all seem nice, though, but some of them can be a bit funny. I didn't know that you could turn into an animal? How does that work? Does that mean that those pets that are around are witches and wizards?! I don't know if I want to own a human-animal...do you?
Oh, got to go - dinnertime!

Hey Freya!
I heard there's some dueling stuff that they'll teach us in classes, but I forgot what classes those are four for. Still, I hope so too! I don't know what I'd do if there's a bit humongo knot on my tongue. There'd be spit everywhere! Blech!
Yeah, the staircases are something! Oh, do you think you can make moving toilets? I bet they'd be super useful when you're out in the woods. I've never been camping before, but I heard that you hafta use trees as toilets, and I dunno if I wanna give trees my pee. It sounds gross... Oh! And the paintings are so cool though! I think you need magic paint to make them move? Imagine talking to a painting of a mermaid! Or someone who's been in Hogwarts since it got made! I bet that some of them would have a lotta cool stories to tell!
No, not a lotta roosters, I think. It's a small town, but no farms, at least from what I know. Lotsa crowded up houses, that's for sure. And no! Haven't been to Portugal. Dad's been planning that for me for a while now, but that takes a lotta money. For now he's teaching me how to speak Portuguese so I can greet my granparents properly. Did ya know Kermit is called Sapo Cocas? It sound funny and cute! Oh, I like Diagon Alley, cuz they have this candy store that sells cool jelly beans! I really love those.
I haven't thought about having a tiny brother or sister, really. Our house is really tiny, so I dunno where we can get a crib for her. Babies can fit in sinks, right? But then again we'd have to buy baby food... Nevermind babies are hard. I'll stick to getting a pet instead.
YES! I love, love, love reading! I even brought some of my muggle books over here to read! I haven't gone to finishing them back home, so I got to bring them here. Maybe we can swap books sometime? Owl them to each other maybe? But no, we don't sell wizarding books! Though we do have that Fantastic Beasts in stock for some reason... Maybe they slipped through into the muggle world? Still, I'll ask my Dad if he can sell them! I'm sure Mom can help with getting them for the shop! And I'm sure you can just go back to having your muggle life. Though my Mom had to be a stay-at-home mom, since all she knew is magic stuff, and she can't do that in the muggle world.
Ah, no I'm not much of a sports girl. The closest I get to being sporty is watching soccer games with my Dad. I'm too tiny to do some sports, so I'm fine just watching! Quidditch looked so wild when I first watched it. Hope you won't get hit by those big balls!
Now that I think about it, I haven't thought about people turning into pets! But from what I've read so far, it's just humans can turn into animals. Some say it depends on your patronus, but I dunno... I hope I can turn into like an eagle or something! Imagine flying!! Or maybe something like a chameleon, turning invisible and stuff.
Anyways, hope to see your letter soon!
