Dear Dad,

I thought I would send my first letter to you, as your entrance into this magical world is recent, just like mine. When Kate and Ted joined, they could only write to Mum, because you weren't allowed to know. I can't believe you bought their excuse of a behavioural boarding school! Their robes alone should have given it away!

Anyway, I really wrote to tell you that I am safe, and that the food here (especially the potatoes) is incredible! I made a friend on the train. Her name is Adlai, and she's a Muggleborn. She reminds me of Kam, but she seems a lot more calm. The best part is, she was sorted into Hufflepuff, just like me!

Oh, yeah... I'm a Puff, just like Ted! I'm in a dorm called Colorful Quarters, where they do painting every year. It's based on colours and creativity, so I naturally adore it!

How are Ted and Kate, and Mum? When do they start their training? It feels strange to think that I won't be home until Christmas. Until then, there's so much to do: lessons, watching Quidditch, and whatever other events there are this year.

Lots of love,
Leah

Leah,

Imagine my betrayal when I discovered that you had written to Dad first! Thalia arrived around lunchtime, carrying a letter, and it wasn't even for me! Such rudeness.

I'm only joking, of course. But I'm glad you're safe - goodness knows what the younger years get up to these days. Dad said you liked the potatoes, which sounds quite typical for you, and that you made a friend. Well done; your mission to befriend everyone within the nearest mile of you seems to be well underway.

Ted says hi, and wants to remind you to stay out of trouble. I want to remind you that you are young, and if you don't have a detention by Christmas, I will personally march up there and get you in trouble myself. Mum wants to remind you that magic is not to be used as a shortcut for chores and daily tasks (which I disagree with).

One final message: Kam wants you to visit over your next break. Get ready for her to grill you. She wants to know everything, and you're allowed to tell her... nothing.

Oh yeah, one more thing. You better cheer for the Gryffs for me, on top of your own house. I don't care if they play each other, you have to.

Most of all, enjoy it! (even if you're not in my house)

Kate

Dear Kate and Ted,

You wouldn't believe what's happening tomorrow: a masquerade! I'm totally going to go! What should I wear? I'm thinking of going in a costume based on paint and art. I hope I can meet loads of new people there, especially from other houses.

I have discovered a love for Potions. Who would have thought, right? But yes - mixing animal organs and other plant materials somehow got really fun after a few weeks.

How's training? Ted, you're so lucky to work with the one you love. And Kate, the same for you and your many, many suitors. Seriously, you need to stop serial dating. They're getting way too attached to you.

What's the Muggle equivalent of Potions? Chemicals or something? Whatever it is, tell Kam that I like it now. I want to be as honest as possible with her without telling her about magic. How are Sammy and Max and the others? Did they end up going to the same school as Kam?

I miss you all, but I'm so busy here that it doesn't even seem to matter! Give Mum and Dad my love, and give Thalia some cranberries (she loves them).

Write soon,
Leah

Dear Ted,

I'm sending this letter to you because I trust you not to tell anyone what I ask to be kept private. While I might usually send a message to Kate, as this letter concerns a ball, I feel that she would not enjoy the contents.

You can tell everyone about the evening: I almost lost my mask but a boy called Angus helped me find it, and then I went to Adlai's room to pick her up so we could go to the ball together. She looked magnificent, and after she completed her prayer, we went to the ballroom and split up so we could meet new people.

I know what you're thinking: why would I wander around a hall full of strangers alone? Don't worry, though, I met quite a few people who didn't attack me! There was one girl wearing pyjamas, and another dress like a scary cat - though she was actually really nice and let me pet her fluffy cat.

Then I saw Jack, who I met at the sorting ceremony, and we started talking, and then everything started to go wrong.

I really hope you don't tell anyone any more than this. I have attached another letter, which is about what happened, and all of the events I don't really want you to tell anyone.

Lots of love,
Leah

The other letter, found written on the inside of the envelope of the letter sent on 1-11-2019

Dear Ted,

Here is what happened after I spoke to Jack:
  • A girl walked up to us, looking annoyed, and suddenly kissed Jack. He had just told me that he did not have a date, so I was quite confused, but before I could ask what was going on, she turned around and punched me! Thankfully, a very tall boy saved me from one of her two punches. He seemed to know her, and started yelling at her.
  • I witnessed a fight, as the tall boy and the girl who punched me started to fight and others got involved. Jack and I were standing back, and I think he was just as confused as me, but he acted like he knew her, so I really was bewildered.
  • Something happened in a corner, like another fight, but then the doors slammed shut and everything set on fire!
  • I found Adlai - my best friend, I'm sure I've described her to you - and we struggled through the smoke to find the door, which had been broken down by some boys. I offered to help an injured girl, but she turned down my aid. I don't know why, as she didn't look familiar so was probably visiting from America. How did she plan to get out, anyway?
  • I had a sleepover with Adlai, and we tried to forget the events of the ball.
I haven't even mentioned the fight involving some boy biting someone else and a teacher or something, but it really pales in comparison to the other things that happened.

Don't tell the others, please! You shouldn't be worried, as it really was good fun at many points!

Your Hufflepuff sister,
Leah
