Hi Teiki!
My name is Karilyna Kawahara and I'm not really sure where to start. I haven't really sent owls or letters to anyone, and this is my first time... Um, so I think I'll tell you a couple things about myself. My name is Karilyna, and I'm a first year Thunderbird at Ilvermorny. I don't really know a lot about Hogwarts, but I think Thunderbirds are kind of like Gryffindor? That's the only Hogwarts house I can remember because I've been told I am like a stereotypical Gryffindor. Well, if only I went to Hogwarts.
I guess I get along with everyone in general, but I only have a couple close friends. Maybe we could become friends? I'd really like that, even though I don't know you that well. Anyways, back to what I was talking about. I'm actually a native-born Japanese, with two wizard parents, but now I'm an orphan. But that's a long story...
So how are you? How's Hogwarts? I've never been to England, or the Scottish Islands (I've been doing my studying), so what is it like over there? I think Hogwarts is divided into four houses but I don't exactly remember what they are, so forgive me. Sorry, I don't remember all my studies, and our headmaster isn't exactly telling us everything about our schools' future adventures together. Anyways, it sounds fun
. I've attached a picture of myself at the end of this owl. Hopefully we can get to know each other a bit before we come to visit (at least, that's what my Headmaster said we would do).
Sincerely,

Hello Karilyna!
I'm almost positive owls are magical. That would explain the distances they can go at such a rapid pace! I'm also a first year, although I would be a Hufflepuff. Hufflepuff are known to be caring, hard-working, and loyal. I don't know which Ilvermorny house this correlates with, because I, on the other hand, have not done my research. As you might already know, (I don't know how much info they gave you about me) I'm Teiki Laurent, and I've lived in France for all my life. I know very little about England, but from what I've seen, it's a nice place. A little crowded in some areas, but still nice.
Yes! I would be happy to be your friend. I'm sorry for my enthusiasm, but being a first year, I currently have very few friends that I can easily get in touch with. I doubt my no-maj (muggle) friends would appreciate an owl at their window. As for family, I'm a halfblood with two twin sisters. Orphan? I doubt I'd survive as an an orphan for long... I wouldn't know, though..
Hogwarts is fun and quite exciting! Okay, Hufflepuff- loyal, caring, hard-working; Ravenclaw- learning, wisdom, knowledge; Gryffindor- courageous, adventurous; Slytherin- cunning, ambitious. That's the very very basics for houses! What about Ilvermorny houses? I know practically nothing about Ilvermorny. Oh! Do you have ghosts at Ilvermorny? Anyway, I hope you have a fun time and I look foreword to talking to you!
Teiki

Hi again, Teiki!

Yes, owls are the best!! Um, I'm not sure... Maybe Pukwudgie, which has to do with the heart and favors healers. I think. Honestly, I'm not really sure about the houses in my own school. But then, I'm only a first year, so that's okay, right? Anyways... Our headmaster hasn't really given us any information at all, which is kind of like him, I guess. Of course it's been what, 2 weeks? He doesn't seem like a man of many words. Well, that's great to know about you
. I'm originally from Japan (did I already say that? Oops.) but I lived in Phoenix, Arizona before coming to Ilvermorny.

No, that's great. And yeah, it would be funny to see one of my no-maj friends shrieking about a "huge bird" perched on their windowsill. I haven't really known anyone of magical descent, being somewhat separated from wizards my entire life (except for at home, I guess). Ooh, twin sisters sound fun. I wonder how life at home is for you.

Ilvermorny is pretty great too, although everyone seems kind of suspicious and wary. But then, Thunderbird favors adventurers and who knows what people have gotten themselves into... Okay. Thunderbird represents the soul and favors adventurers. Most people in Wampus are crazy warrior-type kids (it represents the body). Pukwudgie favors healers and represents the heart, and Horned Serpent has all the super smart people. I think it favors the mind? Anyways, I forget what Slytherin stands for, but Horned Serpent always reminds me of the snakes at Hogwarts. I don't really know why I know so much about your school. I guess it's just that it seems really interesting and quite different from ours...

Um, as far as I know, I don't think Ilvermorny has ghosts. Of course, I could be totally oblivious to them, but I haven't seen them around... Does Hogwarts have ghosts? That sounds really weird... But then, like I would know. So, what do you like? Like, favorites in general and then--ooh, what's your favorite Hogwarts subject? I'm pretty sure it's the same at Ilvermorny... Sorry I'm not great at this letter-writing business anyways. Anyways, I can't wait to get to know you!
Sincerely,

Hello!
It's perfectly fine to not be sure about houses as a first year! I totally understand.. the hat is quite talkative about all the possible options... Our headmaster, well, I can't say I know all that much about him, but he didn't give us too much information as well, so there's that, I guess. Arizona? What's that like?
Was it hard to transition between the two, or did it feel a little more natural because you weren't born with no-maj parents? I mean, they both seem like they could easily be hard transitions, but I'm wondering.. I don't even really what I'm asking. Sorry about that. Life was alright at home with twins, but it was hectic sometimes. Especially if my parents accidently left their wand out. They probably won't remember when they get older, but they managed to produce bubbles with that wand (nice, except it took a really long time to get rid of them all) and almost destroyed the house. They didn't. But it looked like they were trying to start a fire. So that was fun..
Suspicious and wary, huh? That doesn't seem like the best environment to learn magic. I hope they are able to figure out how to solve their problems nicely? Hopefully without harming anyone. Hogwarts is nice, the environment can be quite mysterious and worrisome at some points, but mostly it's energetic. Of course the environment is mixed, it's your new home for the next seven years. Anyway, I hope Ilvermorny gets better.
Hogwarts has ghosts. Maybe too many ghosts.
I enjoy exploring, reading, and doing puzzles. Favorite color is green, favorite animal is the pup! Mythical, though, would be phoenix. Favorite subject is charms? What about you?
Talk to you soon!

Hey Teiki,
Yeah, I guess. What's the hat? Is it like some sorting ceremony? (I seem to remember reading about that somewhere). So, Arizona is really hot, so I really love cold weather. I don't know about London, but Arizona is basically the desert on a slightly milder scale. Despite the heat, though, it is quite fun there. Massachusetts, where Ilvermorny is, has a much different climate than Arizona, so it took some getting used to.
Anyways, sorting ceremonies... Do you have a sorting ceremony at Hogwarts? Anyways, at Ilvermorny, we take turns standing on a huge symbol of some knot. There are four houses you can be sorted into (did I say that already? Oops.) If you get sorted into Horned Serpent, a crystal in the snake's head lights up. If Wampus wants, you, it roars. Honestly, it's kind of creepy when a the roar echoes throughout the room. The Thunderbird beats its wings if it wants you, and if you're in Pukwudgie, it raises an arrow. The first time it did, I thought it was actually going to shoot us and I was petrified.
It wasn't actually too hard. I've been around magic my whole life--even though my adopted parents try to hide it from me, it's not hard to figure things out at our house. I grew up with no-maj friends though, because my adopted parents are kind of paranoid. Anyways, setting the house on fire? Yikes!
Yeah, it's not exactly the best environment, but crazy things still happen over here. Even though it's only been a couple weeks, I've made some friends and we've probably caused quite a ruckus over the campus. Probably not a good thing, but no one really cares. At least not yet... I hope so too. Well, sounds like Hogwarts is really fun. Can't wait to come see it in October (when are we visiting again?) And ghosts sound scary. Wonder what that's like...
I like exploring tooIt's really fun to get to know your surroundings, I guess. I also like being crazy, hanging out, and pranking (probably not a good thing). I don't really have the patience for puzzles, but I do admire the people who can sit still long enough to do one
. I like yellow, and my favorite animal is probably a dragon? Phoenixes are really cool too, though, so it's a pretty close competition. I like Defense of the Dark Arts. Oh, and do you guys have Quidditch at your school? We do, and I hope to get on the team. Of course, I'm just a first year, so that plan's still in progress... Oh yeah, what's Hufflepuff like? Hope to hear back soon!

Hello!
I forgot to tell you about the hat! It's our sorting ceremony.. Basically we sit on this stool, then put on this sentient hat that can decide what house you should be in. You are allowed to put your opinion in because your opinion is important, but it then shouts what house you are in and you go to that coordinated table.
Really hot weather? I don't think I could ever get used to that.. It can still be pretty warm in France, but because of all the fields that I lived around, it was generally nice enough. England, though, just seems really foggy and cold. I don't know. Maybe I just came on a wrong day, but I definitely prefer France.
Oh yeah. My parents used to be worried I would accidentally do magic while in the presence of friends. I think that's why I enjoyed exploring so much, because it could easily be done solo. I did used to have a good friend that would also explore with me, but I believe we've lost touch. I should probably owl my parents a letter for her. Why did they try to hide it? I think it would just make matters worse, wouldn't it? I wouldn't know, though...
Crazy things happen at every magic school, I'm almost certain.I think it's just because we're learning magic, which can easily backfire. And, they mix teenagers with kids, and very confused or homesick kids at that. Maybe not the best combination. October! Yeah! The ghosts aren't all that scary, they're more funny and pranksters from what I can tell. They used to be students, I believe.
Pranking, huh? Is it hard? I've never tried to do it, for fear my plan would fail, mainly. Also, most puzzles I do don't require patience, just keen eyesight and speed.Ooh, dragon.. Nice. Powerful, too. DADA, I could see that. And, yes, we do have quidditch. Actually, the season is starting around now for our school. Maybe you'll be able to see a game! Hufflepuff, the Common Room/Dorms is a really warm and cozy place. It also has little waving cacti! Hufflepuffs themselves are generally kind, rule followers, I would say. They are generally loyal and seem to be mediators when it comes to arguements. But that's all a generalization. How about Thunderbird?
Teiki
P.S. Sorry for the long wait, I gave the owls another day of rest because they all looked tired. Talk to you later!

Hey Teiki!
The Sorting Hat? That actually sounds really coolMuch cooler than our sorting ceremony. Although I'm not sure, the hat shouting sounds kind of scary, seeing it for the first time
.
That's funny--I've grown to like cold and rainy weather, having been stuck in hot, sticky days back in Arizona. France seems really cool--I wonder what that's like... Yeah, I'm not sure why my adopted parents tried to hide it. Probably because we were in some huge Muggle city and they would get in trouble if their crazy adopted kid started going magically haywire. Now I have so many funny images running through my head... Yay, you agree with meI feel like honestly we shouldn't have stayed in Phoenix... and I could've used magic. But then, I wouldn't know either...
And yes, magical school is hectic! It must be just like that at Hogwarts--Ilvermorny is filled with crazy people brandishing wands like swords and faces stuck in homework parchments. Wow, that's so weird. Old students that are ghosts... Do they ever scare you? (Oops, did I already ask that?)
Um, pranking really isn't that hard. Yeah, you kind of have to be sneaky about it, but otherwise it isn't that bad. Oops, hopefully I'm not a bad influence on you. You guys have Quidditch? We do too, but it hasn't really started up yet. I really hope I get to see a game, it sounds AWESOME.
You guys have moving cacti in your dorms? Sounds cool... and slightly dangerous, to be honest. Hmmm, Thunderbirds are pretty different in nature. We're all adventurers, the "risk-takers", so to speak. I'm not so much of the reckless type myself--I do know a couple people in my house are.
I don't know what to talk about... so what do you like at Hogwarts? Do you actually get to use magic? I mean, sorry if you don't know, because I know we've only just started school![]()

The Mini-Note:@Thora LarkstonSeptember 28, 2019
Karilyna!
You're coming to Hogwarts soon, right? I heard it started in October, but I might be wrong. Who knows? You might not even get this letter in time! No, you probably will. Nevermind! But still, I'm excited to meet you. Also, there's supposed to be a party, so remember to bring at least one dress! =)
Yeah, the hat is a little weird the first time.. well, the only time.. but you get used to it quickly.. I don't know, I like the idea of statues, it makes it more clear, whereas the hat just sort of talks... Let me explain in a mini-note that will be attached. So yeah...
Okay, I guess I can see your parent's point. But it could've also made matters worse later... I have no idea. They tried to do what's right, so points to them.. It probably would've been good to live in an environment where you could accidentally perform magic without worry of being excluded or bullied because of it..
Oh yeah! Some just use their wands to get an advantage, while others are hyper-focused on homework.. It's interesting, really. It depends on the ghost. Some like to be mean and play pranks on students, while others are funny or are just sort of there.. Honestly, I just imagine them to be students. Have some fun with them, don't walk through them, and you're okay. Peeves is the one who likes to prank, though, so I would say to stay away, but whatever you'd prefer!
Oh! Don't worry! Honestly, though, I need a bad influence, a person asides from myself. I've never really had an influencer that wasn't my family, except for one of my old friends. I hope you get to see a game, too! I'm pretty sure they're really entertaining...
Well, they're small moving happy cacti...? I don't know how to explain it, but they seem happy and cute, so... there's that, I guess. Reckless? Hmm... I could see that, pranking and all.
Hogwarts is so cool! I like how large it is, and how many little hidden rooms there are that I don't know about! Okay, that sounds weird, but there are rooms that no one knows where they go or what they do, so I sort of want to find one, but I also don't really want to get in trouble. I'm not reckless...
We're only really allowed to use magic in lessons or clubs, but sometimes people use it whenever, so..
Happy travels!
Teiki

Hey Teiki!
Um, our headmaster said something about us coming in the beginning of October. Hopefully you get this owl before we actually get to meet in person! I'm so excitedI can't wait to meet you too. I need to bring a dress?
No offense, it's not you, it's just that... dresses are not my thing. How 'bout you?
So, Peeves is the prankster? I'll keep that in mind for my visitI mean, I'm a prankster myself, so I can't exactly blame him for that. But a ghost that pranks? I'll have to see it for myself
. Oh, I certainly hope I can see a game. Quidditch is the best.
Hogwarts has hidden rooms?!?!?! Okay, now I can't wait. Yeah, don't worry, I won't pull you into anything. I'm not like the reckless type (ahem, ahem, staring at some stupid Thunderbirds and Wampuses across the room) but I do like to explore. It's fun when you can discover something new. Oh great, that sounds like a cheesy line from some show... Anyways, I get off topic really easily.
By the way, your "mini-note" is really funny! I can totally imagine that. But for me, it would probably just dump me in Gryffindor without further thought. So, our headmaster FINALLY gave us the smallest bit of information about our trip to Hogwarts. He said we'll be riding carriages across the Atlantic (seriously, I trust magic and all, but of all things we could do, we have to fly in a carriage?!?!) pulled by thestrals. Aren't those the creepy death-horse things? Obviously I don't care much about homework...
Yep, magic is technically only allowed when permitted at our school too, but of course, when you have a mob of teenagers, they don't exactly follow the rules, right? Wow, we're actually running out of things to talk about-- Do you have a costume planned for the dance? I just remembered, Plott (our headmaster) said something about a Masked Ball? What's life like in Hogwarts? Is the dance going to end up a wreck (like, what do you think)? Because it DEFINITELY would, at Ilvermorny. Anyways, it's okay if you can't get a response in before we come. Besides, our owl is looking a little tired. Oops. Either way, can't wait to see you soon!
Sincerely,
