You shouldn't be here
The dungeons was a frightening place to be, at least for most people anyway. Lana found somewhat of a comfort down here, the dark stained brick walls and rusted chains reminding her of home back in Wales.
There was a certain eerieness to the place; perhaps it was the sudden cold that filled the air, or maybe the spiders that seemed to crawl from every direction.
Though despite it being so terrifying, upon Lana's entrance it had become ten times worse. There seemed to be an invisible mist around her, blocking out anything and anyone. The corridors of the Dungeon seemed to become quiet, the mice not even daring to make a move.
She listened to the water drip from the ceiling and onto the floor, the splash echoing down the long hall of cells. It was obvious these rooms hadn't been occupied in ages, leaving Lana to wonder what went down here years ago. She'd assumed the rumors were true, how they said that Harry Potter and the others walked down here. It could be a lie- yet then again...
She watched a rat scurry across the wet floor, its fur dirty and mangled. She grimaced, proceeding down the hall quietly. Her footsteps seemed heavy despite her being so light, the pools of water on the floor wetting her shoes. Although the temperature seemed to be dropping by the second, the cold appeared to un-affect her. She enjoyed it almost, as if it brought her solace.
She muttered under her breath quietly, the words not loud enough to decipher. She did this often, mumbling to herself about nothing really. This time it had been about Hogwarts, though what she had to say about it was unknown.
Disgusting sort of place.. She whispered as she continued walking, though she stopped short at the sound of footfall. Maybe she was hearing things, though perhaps someone really was there, lurking in the shadows watching her. It angered Lana, to know that someone was following her without her awareness. She turned around, her dark eyes searching for a face.
She swore she could make out a silhouette, though she couldn't decipher if it was her brain playing tricks on her or not. It liked to do that often, therefore she couldn't trust herself anymore. She needed to see it in front of her to believe it.
"I know you're there."
She spoke clearly, her deep voice intimidating. She knew she had the ability to frighten them, to have them run away in fear for their lives. Either they'd exit upon being spotted, or they'd show themselves. Both outcomes didn't matter to her, she just wanted them to stop being a coward.

You shouldn't be here
It wasn't too terribly often that one spotted a student in the basements that wasn't a Slytherin or a Hufflepuff. After all, their respective houses were located there. Though it happened from time to time. Even less often was it when one might spot a student trying to slip down into the dungeons unnoticed. That had been Illowy's sight when she'd emerged from the Common Room to go to up the library. What in the world could be such a reason for someone to venture down there alone? Whatever it was, Illowy didn't trust it. Not after what had happened to Slytherin last year, and with no culprit caught yet.@Lana Monet
Waiting aside until the other girl had some distance ahead, and retrieving her wand from her bag just in case, Illowy started off quietly on her trail. Would it have probably been wiser to find her Head of House or a prefect? Probably; but she was also curious to see what the girl could have been up to as they ventured down into the depths of the dungeons. Illowy did her best to take care in making the quietest steps she could, which was a feat easier said then done in such a damp, echoing space.
For a time, she wondered if the girl would simply keep muttering and wandering aimlessly... that was until they came full stop and she heard the girl's feet shift on the slick stone as though turning around.
Illowy froze, wondering if the girl was bluffing or if she actually saw or heard her. The girl's voice made her chill in a way the dungeons couldn't have hoped for, which only solidified in Illowy's mind that she must not be up to any good. After a few seconds of stand off, the older snake lifted her wand and trace it through the air, speaking in her own clear voice, "Lumos" the wand's light quickly lit up the tunnels, illuminating the pair."I know you're there."
In spite of the strange vibe the younger girl gave off, Illowy kept her head high, ghostly pale eyes looking over the other for a moment, "You should not be down here." she spoke firmly.
I was told I was dangerous. When I asked why, they said, "Because you don't need anyone." That's when I smiled.

The sudden light surprised her, the immediate illumination of the tunnels throwing Lana off guard. She narrowed her eyes as if to study the girl in front of her, trying to identify her. She knew she was familiar, though she couldn't pair a stable connection for the life of her.
Shouldn't be down here? Was she serious? Lana scowled, wanting to know why this girl felt so inclined to tell her what she could and could not do. Perhaps it was the sense of higher superiority that came with being a third year, the advantage they felt they had around someone younger than them.
Lana kept eye contact with the girl at the end of the hall, the distance between them a large gap. Despite the Slytherin's efforts to seem intimidating, Lana couldn't help but feel as if it was a bluff. She'd seen it every day in this excuse for a school, her pompous classmates trying to pass off the idea of them being unfazed by someone like her.
Though she knew better, as how could anyone feel at ease around her? Everyone seemed to be anxious, wary, even disturbed by her. They often liked to make the accusation that she was plotting something; something dangerous.
Had she the answer to such suspicion? Yes, though she'd not dare tell anyone. She figured their highly incompetent brains wouldn't be able to comprehend something so important.
But shouldn't it have been her that was worried about being plotted against? She knew someone in the school was out there trying to get rid of her, the sick apprehension that a person wanted her dead.
Though be that as it may, she couldn't seem to produce an ounce of fear for these thoughts anyway, because why should she? It was them who should be trembling in fear of her.
"Should and can are two different things."
Her reply was blunt, practically vague; There was no proper way to respond. She paused for a moment, contemplating what to say next. Her options varied, though she figured to get straight to the point.
"So are you going to enlighten me with your reason for following me down here?"

Illowy narrowed her own eyes as the other held her eye contact. The aura that seemed to radiate from the other wasn't unknown to her, that chill that made her most primal instincts urge her to run, but she wasn't about to allow herself to be overwhelmed. Not by one little witch that was younger then her. After all, she didn't know why this girl was down here, if she was up to something, and she had her housemates to protect. That was how she saw it.@Lana Monet
However, it had nothing to do with the girl herself. Anyone who seemed to be lurking about the bowels of the castle was immediately suspect to Illowy, and not without good reason. Slytherin had just been attacked in February after all. Who was to say it wouldn't happen again? Who's to say the person who had caused the trauma of it all wasn't hiding right here in these dungeons where one might easily slip in and out of the darkness. The black, ichor scars that crawled up her neck and branched up her cheek was a daily reminder that something terrible was going on at the school, that something, or someone, was out to hurt the students of Hogwarts. Someone tried to kill Slytherin students. Tried to kill her. And while their stares and whispers from her fellow students over the markings haunted her to no end, she'd be damned if she sat by and watched anything similar happen to anyone else. The fear of seeing anyone else hurt like that was greater to her then the intimidation of any one student.
"Because I saw some strange girl try to sneak down where she shouldn't be." she answered plainly, voice dripping with sarcasm, "No one is meant to be down here, and I don't trust anyone who thinks they can be slick and creep around the dungeons in the dark doing Merlin-knows-what. So I think its best you return to your own floor. Now."
I was told I was dangerous. When I asked why, they said, "Because you don't need anyone." That's when I smiled.

This girl seemed stronger than the others, a higher determination to stand her ground. Lana took note of this, almost finding herself admiring the older girl.
Though the slight admiration was erased when she'd spoke, leaving her to make a face. She registered the sarcasm in her voice, causing Lana to clench her fists. She couldn't begin to describe how bloody annoying she found the tone in her voice, causing her to half contemplate saying something about it.
Yet instead she held her tongue, not bothering to waste her breath on something so pointless.
The Slytherin seemed angry, tense even. She seemed to be looking at Lana with disgust, perhaps from mere distaste, or maybe something deeper underlying. Did she think she was going to hurt her? She defiantly had the skills to do such a thing, though she wouldn't do it out of mere spite.
Lana smiled faintly at the comment of her being strange. If only she knew how strange...
It wasn't like herself to back down, so instead of complying, she approached her slowly.
Lana made sure not to get too close, though, because god knows what this girl really was. She didn't want to risk getting incredibly close to something like a half-breed. Disgusting little monsters.
"As scary as you are, Miss Slytherin, I believe I've done nothing wrong."
It was obvious Lana had no idea what had happened down here before, her ignorance in the way of seeing that this girl was actually trying to help her.

As the girl approached her, Illowy refused to budge. The older girl held her ground and her stance, never flicking a ghostly pale eye away from the other. The snake was known by this point to be stubborn, to never known when it was time to back down. In her mind, there was more honor in being knocked out cold while fighting then to flee, no matter the unsettling nature of the other.@Lana Monet
Mentally, the girl tried to ready herself in the event that the odd girl did try anything, rehearsing her strongest spells to subdue the other. Even harder was trying to identify what the girl might've been, if anything but human. That was one thing she'd learned very quickly at Hogwarts was that not everyone was who they seemed to be. Her cousin was the best example of such a thing in her mind; brooding about and making messes like any other young teen lad, all the while carrying his terrible secret affliction of lycanthropy.
A small scoff escaped her as the younger girl spoke, "I don't recall asking if you were doing something wrong. I don't fankly care what you were doing, but you aren't going to do it down here. Unless, of course, you fancy potentially dying in this labyrinth." she warned coldly, "Or better yet, a fate worse the death. You never know in this school. But terrible things lurk down here, and I'll grant you the benefit of the doubt that you aren't one of them."
I was told I was dangerous. When I asked why, they said, "Because you don't need anyone." That's when I smiled.

She raised an eyebrow, visibly curious about what she meant by "terrible things". It couldn't be that bad, truly. It was a school, after all, there was no way monsters lurked in the darkness of the dungeons. The only ones she had encountered were half-breeds, but they were allowed to roam the halls, however dangerous it might be.
Though the more she thought about it, the more it made sense. Perhaps the things down here were the ones out to get her, not a student. She knew something wanted to cause her harm, though she'd been unable to trace it back to anything. Maybe she could kill it, maybe..
Though still, she knew there was no getting past this girl. She seemed angry, though angry at what? There was nothing she had done but insult her, though her temper surely had to be low for that to get to her. So instead of further arguing, she glanced back at the stairs.
"I can't help but be intimidated by the girl who wears star-shaped earrings." She said cooly, brushing past her without a second thought. There was light coming from the bottom of the door, the faint line guiding her to the exit.
She knew she'd be back here again, though she'd have to be more careful. Some people at Hogwarts were just too nosy.
