An Electric Aftermath
Reducio
Private thread for @Thora Larkston, @Alexx Séverin, and @Illowy Magnard following the duel (found here).
September 14th, 2019, 3:46 p.m.
Hazel eyes opened slowly, then instantly closed at a blinding brightness. A few deep, minorly painful breaths later, they forced themselves to try again, emerging into the white world.
It took Bridget several long moments to figure out where she was, what had happened. And then it came back to her. She was in the Hospital Wing. The duel had ended. How long ago was that? She instinctively looked at her watch, only to find it gone. But what she did saw made her wish she'd stayed out until the nurse had finished working her magic. The wounds from the burns were already looking better, not that she had checked before, but her arms still looked injured and everything hurt.
She wasn't even sure if she had hit Illowy. All she knew was she'd avoided the other second year's Knockback Jinx but launched herself straight into more flames. And it was a pain worse than anything she'd ever felt before. Being on fire was one thing, but being set on fire again, having flames lap over your already damaged skin? Practically torture.
Bridget was vaguely aware of letting out a little shriek and the next thing she knew she was on the ground, the cold, hard platform of the stage with dozens of eyes trained on her, but right now it didn't matter. All that existed were the flames. Luckily, Professor Vernatis was soon crouched above her, waving his wand and making the fire disappear. Regardless, black spots were eating away at her vision and she knew she didn't have long until she blacked out. She was lifted onto a stretcher, wincing as the Charms Professor placed his hand on her shoulder.
"You fought well, Miss Collins." She appreciated the compliment, but obviously she hadn't done enough. She hadn't even outlasted Illowy. All she had to do was make it one more round, but of course both of the other girls had to leave the platform on their feet.
She fought to hear the rest of what he said. Some sort of congratulations to the winners. She couldn't deny they had done well, but it wasn't as if she could clap. She'd tell them good game or something later.
Vernatis turned to her one last time. "Miss Collins, you've done well today, especially on your own there at the end. You should be very proud of yourself. I hope that you will join the Dueling Club because you are definitely a force to be reckoned with. Enjoy your rest." As it seemed that there was nothing more he had to say, Bridget stopped fighting to stay conscious, slipping away into the black.
The flashback filled in any gaps in her memory. Would she join the dueling club? Maybe, but now wasn't a very good time to make any decisions, as they would be kind of biased by the defeat and burns. The girl slowly eased herself into a more upright position. The first thing she noticed was the pair of girls across from her--a blonde and a brunette. Alexx and Illowy. Both were being treated: the third year's burns were fading while the latter was smoking at the ears, the effects of Pepperup Potion to cure the Curse of the Bogies. Bridget wasn't quite ready to congratulate them just yet, especially if it meant trying to break the silence. More importantly, if Alexx, who had needed minimal patching up, was still in here, then Thora should be in the infirmary as well.
It took her about two seconds to find the redhead. Her teammate, and very possibly her friend, was sitting up on a bed to her left. And then she did something she wasn't planning on--she smiled. Her features contorted themselves into a huge grin. Before the nurse could tell her not to, Bridget had swung out of bed and crossed to Thora's. Perhaps moving this quickly after being unconscious wasn't the best idea, but she made it, collapsing as gracefully as possible into a sitting position towards the foot of the bed. Blinking black spots away and ignoring her stinging skin, she addressed the other girl.
"Welcome back to the Hospital Wing! I suppose we're becoming regulars."

An Electric Aftermath
Thora sat up in bed, groaning slightly as her entire back protested about the simple movement. Eyes barely able to crack open, Thora ran a hand through her hair. She felt like a mess and was sure she looked the same. Thankfully, the redhead had woken up just in time as her teammate was levitated in on a stretcher. Wincing, Thora grimaced as she studied the girl. Bridget looked horrible. Her hair and robes were charred and skin bright red--one of their opponents, probably Alexx, had decided to set her on fire again.
Rubbing her head hard with sore hands, Thora closed her eyes and laid back slightly as another headache flared again. Being thrown onto the floor by Flipendo three times and then being knocked unconscious was not something she wanted to experience again. Judging from the fact that all her bones felt bruised told the girl that she would probably have a huge black-blue splotch on her back the next day, not to mention... Had she been unconscious? The redhead remembered every minute of the duel, from Illowy blasting her back again and again until the final moments when she blacked out. Rubbing the back of her head, Thora felt a huge bump. No wonder...
Her eyes narrowed just a bit as she noticed a taller blonde girl in a bed across from her. Alexx. And Illowy, the third year's teammate, seemed to be fine except for the smoke billowing out of her ears. It looked like the physically version of the saying "smoke was coming out of her ears." Thora couldn't help but muffle a giggle. Her mirth quickly changed to concern, however, as she turned to the bed next to her, where her badly injured teammate laid, getting fussed over by several nurses. She looked pretty bad, her skin even peeling in some places. If Illowy and Alexx were unharmed and Bridget burned up, then the opposing duo had obviously won the match. Well, at least they tried.
Of course, it surprised the second year as Bridget hopped out of bed and crashed onto Thora's. The nurse came over as to chide her, but stopped. Maybe she was waiting for Bridget to collapse out of dizziness? Thora froze as the nurse stared at her, probably warning her to not get the two girls into any trouble. The redhead grinned painfully. Like they could actually do anything while they were half-conscious and probably on the effects of magical medicine.
"Welcome back the Hospital Wing! I suppose we're becoming regulars," Bridget said lightly. "Yeah," answered Thora, "Maybe sometime they'll have special beds just for us," the redhead joked. She was quickly becoming much more comfortable with the brunette. Maybe they would even be friends... It only felt right that way. She turned to Alexx and Illowy, wanting to congratulate them on a great match.
"Good job, you guys," Thora said weakly, directing her voice towards the girls across from her. Although the redhead could hold a serious grudge, it was just a duel. After all, either team could've won--Bridget and herself could've walked out the victors, and the other girls carried out on stretchers. But nevertheless, Thora decided to keep a good attitude about it. After all, she was the first one out, so it wasn't like she was better than anyone else...

An Electric Aftermath
The events between the final round of the duel and arriving in the hospital wing were practically a blur to Illowy save for a couple highlights and hazy details. After her initial spell had missed Bridget, Illowy had been sure the other girl was about to blow her out of the competition, quite literally. If the Bridget had had the chance, Illowy knew she wouldn't have gotten up from the bogies curse coursing through her. Thanks to Alex, they'd won the competition.
It had taken every inch of will power in her to walk off the platform on her own, having sworn to herself that she was going to leave her first duel on her feet... well, she at least made it to the hall before having to take a bit of help from an upperclassman to get to the Hospital Wing.
The girl begrudgingly took the Pepperup Potion, hardly excited for the side effect, but having no choice in the matter. How embarrassing to have to deal with steam from your ears as the potion quick literally burned the illness out of you.
Illowy shrugged off her robes, unclipped the bow she'd been wearing so to let her long hair loose around her shoulder, loosened her tie a bit and unbuttoned her collar before laying down. After all, if she was going to feel miserable, she wanted to at least feel a little comfortable. Pale eyes traveled to the adjacent beds were her fallen housemates rested and were being treated in addition to herself and her own teammate for their various burns and injuries.
By the time the other team was finally starting to stir and rise, Illowy was starting to feel well enough again to at least sit up, leaning back against the back of the bed. She'd since rolled her sleeves up, examining her healing burns on her hand, silently wondering if it would improve her previous burn scars on her hands and arms, or simply add to it; but upon hearing the other girls talking, Illowy's attention turned to them.
As competitive as Illowy could get, her pride didn't put her beyond good sportsmanship. She offered a tired smile to her fellow snakes, "Welcome back to the Land of the Living." she spoke, shaking her good hand through her hair before giving a nod to Thora after her comment, "You too." she replied, "How're you two feelin'?"

I was told I was dangerous. When I asked why, they said, "Because you don't need anyone." That's when I smiled.

An Electric Aftermath
Alexx was half-hoping that Reid would show up. Well, she knew better than to expect things from him, or anyone, but she was hoping that he would. There was still time, though. And so what if he didn't? It wasn't like she was like any of the other girls. She didn't need fixing or patching up. Hell, she made it out without falling to the ground. That only proved that she was stronger than them. Better.
She was meant to be the best at everything. The paper. Being a Prefect. Quidditch. Dueling. Even her grades. But Alexx spent tonight distracted for some reason. She couldn't shake him from her mind... That Kovacs. What was the issue? She knew bloody well that it wasn't a crush, so what? What was her deal? Her deal was that she was getting close to someone right as her uncle tells her that she might have to leave Hogwarts altogether and transfer to Ilvermorny. Her deal was that life found yet another way to fuck her over right as the going got good.
She had no interest in making friendly conversation with the other three girls. She was a third-year for Merlin's sake! There were better people to socialize with. It was like talking to that... That Quinlan girl! Ugh! The nerve!
And really, Alexx had no need to be so disgruntled about them. She was a second-year not too long ago herself. But really, she should talk to people her own age. People who understood the traumas of a 13-year-old girl. And just because she dueled with them (and helped kick two of their asses, by the way) didn't make them any close to being friends than she was close to being friends with Quinlan. No, she knew them. They were faces. That was it.
One might think that Alexx would at least have respect for the people of her own house, but they would be wrong. Respect wasn't handed out based on a title. It was earned. Alexx earned her respect. And the words of... Whoever the fuck that was tonight... They had no place to talk. She'd been working her ass off for her social position in this school for three bloody years now, not for some half-brained asshole kid to come along and have the audacity to shout things at her. They could say it to her face if they were so big and bold.
So why was she so unnerved? Well, she didn't do her best. People would remember that. People always remembered her failures. Yes, she won, but she wasn't proud of it. She wanted more, but this was all that she would get. At this rate, she may as well call for a rematch.
All of that aside, Alexx would not send any glances the girls way, but would talk if they initiated it.
chill babe. we're all bad in someone's story.

An Electric Aftermath
Bridget was quite pleased with how easily her and Thora exchanged jokes--they really seemed like they could and probably would be good friends. Although, realistically, if the duo had almost earned themselves their own beds practically every other Hogwarts student would've too, as they were far from the most reckless, but it was funny all the same.Interacting with @Thora Larkston, @Illowy Magnard, and @Alexx Séverin
Now that both Thora and Illowy had congratulated the opposition, it was high time the brunette followed suit. "Yeah, well done, both of you," she said. It was true that the other pairing had both done well. Although Alexx might've been a bit off today, she'd still pulled it together to come out victorious. And Illowy was quite impressive--she may not have utilized many spells but the ones she did were effective. "I'm sure your mother will be quite proud," Bridget said with a smile, referencing their previous encounter in the library. She wasn't happy to lose, not in the least bit, but they were housemates and didn't need to be enemies if it could be avoided.
Illowy then asked her and Thora how they were feeling. Despite the fact crossing over to her partner's bed had nearly made her pass out again, Bridget was starting to feel much better and less like fainting. Things did hurt, of course, but it was nothing she couldn't tolerate. "Pretty okay actually," came her reply, short and to-the-point as per usual.
"Are any of you planning on officially joining dueling once it's available?" she asked, this utterance directed towards both her fellow second years and Alexx, who hadn't so much as acknowledged any of them yet. Oh well, it wasn't as if she expected the older girl to be her friend.

An Electric Aftermath

"Yeah, I'm pretty decent. How are you guys coming along?" Neither Illowy nor Alexx had been knocked out during the duel but there was no doubt the two had taken the spells hard. If only Thora had stood it out and actually survived for a few more rounds... As Bridget asked all of the girls--herself, Illowy, who had decided to talk to them, and Alexx, who hadn't--whether they would join dueling once it actually became available, Thora spun her wand in her hands.
"I might. I mean, I'm not too great at it, but I've done it before, obviously, and it doesn't hurt to try again," Thora wasn't sure how she felt about revealing so much in front of the three girls--especially Alexx--but as they had all seen her not-so-great job during the duel, the Slytherin figured it wouldn't hurt to do so. Besides, she would need to know maybe a few more spells, as however many spells she cast successfully, it wasn't enough for her to outlast either of her opponents.
There evidently wasn't much to talk about, as all of the girls seemed to have run out of ideas to talk about. "Um, nurse?" Thora decided to say something, for once in her life. "Are we allowed to leave?" It was ironic how the second year asked the question, as out of all of the girls, she should probably be the one staying behind, making sure she didn't faint of a concussion or something similar.
"Sure, dear. All of you guys look fine and I'm sure you guys can get back to whatever you young people do nowadays," the kindly sugar-coated voice of the nurse came floating back from where the elderly lady's head was, peering around in a trunk. "Um, I think I'm gonna go, then," Thora said awkwardly, getting up from her bed. Waiting for her spinning head to clear a bit, the girl picked up her wand, starting for the door.
"Great job, Alexx," Thora said again as she passed. The third year didn't seem like she wanted to talk, but Thora could at least send a few compliments her way as she seemed to clearly dominate the duel, being a third year and all. Pushing open the door, Thora stepped out of the Hospital Wing.
