At Least It Wasn’t Fire PV P. Stavrou Reopened

At least it wasn’t fire, the blonde thought as she and her fellow Ravenclaw made their way over to the Hospital Wing. The whole reason she didn’t go to the Blossom Ball was because she thought that something would happen, and it did, again!

Dymphna couldn’t believe it when she heard the news but she wasn’t surprised. That York boy their first year and there was no telling how it started this time, but she wouldn’t put it past that Dhampir who seemed to always be getting into trouble… or even their Headmaster himself. No matter how much she respected him, he wasn’t doing anything about the fires, was he? Seemed suspicious to her. Not to mention the armour he always wore.

She stretched her arms out in front of her. There was a soreness throughout her body and bruising but nothing that a quick trip to the Hospital Wing couldn’t fix. It was strange to see bruises, her arms seeming to take the brunt of the book edges when they toppled on top of her. From when she had protected her face.

“This is ridiculous,” she said to Phaedra. They weren’t exactly friends but they’d been dorm mates since first year and that meant they saw more of each other than anyone else. She made it a point to be friendly to the girl, especially after how dismissive she was of her and the others in their dorm that first night. She hadn’t made a good first impression.

“I shouldn’t even bother going. Honestly, it’s only a few bruises.” Even as Dymphna said it, she continued forward. Her childhood was spent outdoors, cuts and scrapes galore but her mother was always there to patch her up. She wasn’t used to being injured for long, not even the pain she felt from ballet or Quidditch. ”Others were much worse off.” She finally stopped, not meeting Phaedra’s eyes.

Instead, she looked around at the portraits who didn’t seem to want to chime in. Fine by her, she was only avoiding a conversation here. It wasn’t like she didn’t think she was important or whatever, it just felt strange to be healed and sent off back to the commons while others would be bedridden in the wing. ”I don’t know. How about we go for a tea instead?”

As soon as the words left her mouth, it felt like a big deal. Dymphna hadn’t invited Phaedra to a meal before, to share that space with her. They were academic rivals, though growing friendlier to one another it seemed. If she said no, would she be forced to laugh it off, pretend she’d never asked? How embarrassing! She tried not to look nervous about her answer, instead seeming interested in the portrait of a mute Helena Ravenclaw.

Cleaning up the library hadn't been nearly as bad as she was expecting. Phaedra succeeded in her effort to get there, do what was asked of her, and depart as soon as possible. Since leaving, she hadn't thought twice of the students that were found unconscious under piles of books; by now hurt children were an everyday occurrence. She was just happy that she hadn't got caught in the collateral damage, and that the culprits would face the punishments Ravenclaw thought up for them.

Phaedra strolled through the corridors at her roommate's side, having agreed to stop by the Hospital Wing with her. Dymphna had been one of those to get hurt during the cleaning. They weren't best friends by any stretch of the imagination, yet despite being one of her fierce competitors, Phaedra tolerated her presence. She wasn't bad at all - not for a Teague.

"I don't mind going for tea."

A brow raised, she eyed the side of Dymphna's face, who was preoccupied staring at a portrait of Helena Ravenclaw. Phaedra joined her, her features relaxing as she glanced up at it too. The Grey Lady was their beautiful, but notorious House Ghost. Phaedra knew well the bitter history she held. "But are you sure? That was a heavyweight of books that landed on you."

She shrugged. The Teague was right that her injuries were only a mild inconvenience at worst. Either the girl could woman up and deal with it or take measures to alleviate the soreness. "We could ask for some ice and leave. Where are the bruises? Just your arms?"

Compared to other subjects, her understanding of healing was barely past elementary. Healing had never been something she had been too interested in. Regardless, Phaedra only asked for Dymphna's location of injury not because she had any insight to give, but for reassurance that she wouldn't have to wait too long before they head out for tea. She had thoroughly avoided the infirmary for two years now and wanted to keep it that way. Sick people and overly sterile settings made her uncomfortable.

Dymphna perked up at that, glad that her roommate didn't brush off her offer. She's probably been taught better than that, she thought, remembering how her own mother harped on her about manners. She could always decline in a polite manner however, so perhaps she did want tea afterall. It wasn't likely that she would actually want to hang around with her outside of class, was it?

Tea did sound nice, maybe a bite of chocolate too. Dymphna wasn't one for sweet things, preferring nutty or fruity flavours instead but her aunt Dioreann did always say that chocolate would help what ails you. "I'm sure," the blonde replied after a while. "The Madame has enough to deal with." There were plenty of others who needed Healer attention, not to mention those who were already in the Hospital Wing before the library incident.

Dymphna didn't look too hard at her injuries, wouldn't do so until she was back in their common room later. "I think so. My arms feel worse than anything else." She rotated her wrist, checking one then the other. A little sore but not as bad as her arms were. If only she were decent in Healing spells then she might be able to do something about it herself. That didn't seem to be the case however. Her knowledge of Healing was pretty basic, despite her mother's occupation and her interest in the subject.

There was something about it she just couldn't understand. The texts were all there but her mind refused to comprehend. Not to mention the subjects needed weren't ones that she was good at. It was only her second year and Dymphna was already having to come to terms with the idea that she might never follow in her mother's footsteps. A harsh reality but it made sense why her family said to always have a backup plan. She hadn't given it any thought yet, refusing to give up until she was at least making acceptable marks in those classes.

With a sigh, she finally turned to Phaedra. They weren't close enough for her to feel comfortable confiding in her about her failures. Besides, she still thought of her as an academic rival and she wasn't about to admit defeat. "Shall we go?" A good cup of tea wouldn't hurt then maybe she would go back to the common room to get a leg up on her studies. As they started to head off towards the Great Hall, Dymphna would try to keep the conversation light. "D'you have a favourite type of tea?"
