A Flying Accident Closed

Luna limped in, clutching her wrist. Her ankle had swollen up to twice the size, and her wrist felt sprained at the very least. Head spinning, she collapsed into a chair. She wished she hadn’t gone flying now. She had been trying to do a nosedive, and then... she had crashed hard into the ground. Getting herself into the Hospital Wing had been agony, but at least she had managed it. The matron came over, forcing her into a bed, and healed her wrist, and told Luna to stay for another three hours, so her ankle could fully heal. It still hurt a lot, but at least it was much better.

The matron finally went away, and Luna was left lying on the bed. The three hours wasn’t going to be pleasant, especially due to her ankle hurting, but at least she was lying down, in the Hospital Wing. Luna observed her arms and each had multiple bruises and cuts. She tried to ignore them, and looked around for someone to talk to. Her body protested against moving, but she forced herself to prop herself up, so she could talk. Suddenly, someone came in, looking heavily injured, and was put in the bed next to Luna. “Hi,” she said tentatively.

Emile also walked into the Hospital Wing. His leg was swollen, and he had a gash on his arm. His nose and mouth also had little cuts on them. He looked very much in pain, and was being escorted by another Gryffindor who had luckily been there when the accident happened.

Being the clumsy person he was, while walking down a stairway, he slipped on absolutely nothing and fell down a flight of stairs face first. It wasn't fun. When he fell, there hadn't been anyone around, and he freaked out. He yelled help a couple of times and luckily someone from his house was walking down the hallway and found him on the ground. They helped him get up and Emile explained what happened. After that, they made their way to the Hospital, and here he was.

The Gryffindor helped him to a bed and he thanked him with a big smile. The Gryffindor left, and the matron came over to tend to him, fixing up almost all of his wounds and cuts extremely quickly. She put some bandages on the areas that needed them, wished Emile well, and told him to be more careful when walking down the stairs next time. She also told him he should stay and rest for a while before he went out and continued on like normal.

It was Emile's first time in the hospital, as he had never been wounded so badly he needed to come here. He had gotten paper cuts of course, but he would just ask for a bandaid and be on his way. He took out his notebook, as he hadn't before and started to write all of what just happened down in it, writing page after page of how it felt to be that hurt, the feeling of falling down stairs, all things he might be able to use in his novel.

Suddenly, he heard a voice. "Hi," it said. Emile turned his head and looked at the girl in the bed next to him. He hadn't noticed her until now, either because he was in pain or because he was in his own little world of his notebook. He saw that she also had seemed to be in some sort of accident.

"Hello," He responded with a smile. "What happened?" He asked, gesturing to her bruises and cuts.

The boy was escorted by a Gryffindor, who quickly left. The boy asked her what had happened. “I fell off my broom,” Luna said sadly. “And broke my ankle and fractured my wrist,” she said, quoting what the matron has told her a little earlier. “What about you?” Luna asked the boy. She could see he was a Gryffindor, from his robes, probably a first year like her. Luna pointed to her swollen wrist to show the boy. When the boy was coming in, she had seen his leg was swollen and he had quite a few cuts. He must have done something dangerous.

Luna touched her wrist gingerly. It felt a little sore, but otherwise it was fine, a complete contrast to what she had felt just a few minutes before, as she had smashed into the ground after falling. That had been agony. She wondered if the boy had also been flying, but thought it unlikely. She probably would have seen him outside. Her black hair had come out of its ponytail, so she quickly retied it. She felt much better after, more like herself than before. She always did have her hair tied up in a bun or a ponytail.

"Yikes." Emile said. "That must've hurt a lot." He said, with a bit of a worried look on his face. She did seem to be doing better than she was before. He assumed she had been in a lot of pain. Fracturing and breaking body parts is never fun. Emile himself had never had that happen to him, but it made him wince just thinking about it. He pushed the thought out of his head.

"I fell down the stairs. Pretty stupid, huh?" He said with a weak laugh. He had literally tripped over nothing. Goes to show how clumsy he could be. "I was walking from our common room to the Great Hall and I tripped. Thankfully one of my housemates was there." He said.

"I think falling off a broom is way more cool than falling down the stairs." He said, trying to joke and lighten the mood. That was something Emile always wanted to do. He never really liked depressing conversation and talk. "Were you practicing quidditch or something like that?" He asked.

He could also see that she was a Hufflepuff from the robes she was wearing. "Oh right." He said, turning to look at her eye to eye. "I'm Emile Yorke. A first year Gryffindor, as you can see." He told her and held out a hand for her to shake. "Sorry I forgot to introduce myself earlier." He said with a warm smile. He was glad he wasn't completely alone in the Hospital Wing. Being injured or sick and being alone is awful in his opinion. It was nice to know someone was there, even if they had just met.

Luna nodded. He looked a little worried. The boy said he had fallen down the stairs - at Hogwarts, that would hurt a lot. It didn’t seem silly to her. “It’s not silly, I’m really clumsy” Luna replied. “Yeah, I was practicing Quidditch, I’m of great at it, so I’m trying to get better. I have a fear of heights, so... kind of stupid of me to go flying, but anyway...” she trailed off, her face going red. No one would understand why she was trying to go flying when she was scared to. Weirdly enough, she hadn’t fallen because she was scared. She had fallen because she had spotted a person below, and at that moment she had been about to go into a nosedive, when she fell. She remembered the pain the instant she had touched the ground.

The boy introduced himself as Emile Yorke. A Gryffindor. Luna smiled and introduced herself too. “I’m Luna, Luna Asher. First year Hufflepuff, though you could probably tell.” She mumbled, feeling a little embarrassed. It was pretty easy to guess someone’s house and age. “My fault, I was here first,” she apologised to Emile, though Emile had probably been in too much pain to want to introduce himself earlier.

"I don't think that's stupid," Said Emile with a determined look on his face. "You never know when you'll be able to get over a fear. Maybe flying could help." He said with a nod and a shrug. Deep down, Emile also wanted to get better at Quidditch, and maybe even join the team. His mother had always loved Quidditch, and that had sparked an interest for Emile in it as well. His dream other than to work in herbology or become an author would be to be on the Gryffindor Quidditch team. He loved the thought of playing a sport whilst flying! He knew this dream probably would never happen though. He didn't really get out and exercise that much. Suddenly, an idea came to him. "Maybe sometime we can practice Quidditch together, if you don't mind? It's also something I'd like to get better at if I could." He said with a warm smile. Luna obviously had an interest in Quidditch too, and so they already had a common interest. Maybe she and him could also become friends because of this. God knew he needed some more friends.

"Well, it's a pleasure to meet you, Luna." He said. "Don't apologize! You didn't do anything wrong." He said, shaking his head. "So, what's your favorite class here so far?" Emile asked, trying to make conversation.

“Oh, sure,” Luna replied. It would be nice to practice with someone else, it could make it easier, especially if she wanted to be good at Quidditch, not just flying. She smiled at Emile’s reassurance and tried to think of what her favourite subject was. She hadn’t been at the school long, so she wasn’t completely sure, but at last she answered. “Um, probably Transfiguration or Charms,” Luna said slowly. Even though Transfiguration was hard, it was one of the most interesting subjects in her opinion. What wasn’t to like about turning an object into something more useful? As for Charms, it was also pretty interesting, and was pretty practical in terms of what they learnt.

“What’s your favourite subject?” She asked Emile after a second. She wasn’t sure what was the general opinion on the best subjects, she hoped her view wasn’t too unpopular, though most people probably liked flying the best. Luna couldn’t enjoy it very much (she got a stomach ache every time and she gripped the broom so tight it hurt) but in between her moments of fear she rather enjoyed flying, which was exactly what had inspired her to start practicing more, so she felt more like that.

"Great!" Said Emile with a wide smile. He was happy to have someone he cold share a big interest of his with, and even get better at it while doing so. He also was much more thankful for another friend more than Luna could imagine. He was usually quite awkward, and didn't have many friends, so he was extremely thankful that she was so nice to him.

He quickly wrote something down in his notebook, his hand looking like it was going at the speed of light, then turned back towards Luna. "Sorry, just wanted to write some of this down really quickly. Don't mind me." He said, then proceeded to answer her question.

"Herbology and flying, hands down." He said quickly. Herbology was his absolute favorite class ever. "I absolutely love nature and everything about it, so herbology has been my favorite since the first class. I want to be a herbologist when I grow up." He told her excitedly. "I also like charms and transfiguration too." He said truthfully. If he were being completely honest, he enjoyed all of his subjects for different reasons. "Though I love flying because of Quidditch and because I love how I feel when I'm up in the air like that. It's freeing. At least that's how I feel." He said with a nod.

"What do you want to be when you grow up?" He asked, just noticing that he had randomly thrown into the conversation what he wanted to be and didn't think to ask her. Supporting his earlier, statement he was quite awkward and sometimes only thought about what he was saying.

Luna watched how enthusiastically Emile said his favourite subject was Herbology, she had yet to find a subject she was that passionate about. “I think I want to be an Auror, or a Healer. I’m not really sure which, but I’m quite interested in healing magic, it’s awesome how you can heal people so quickly with magic. With norm- I mean muggles, it takes six weeks to heal a broken bone, but with magic it takes like an hour!” She was still pretty amazed with magic, being a muggle born first year, and anything to do with it thrilled her.

She tried to move a little in her bed, wincing as she moved to a more comfortable position. She was here for three hours. Luna was grateful that she had found a friend to talk to, not just to pass the time but also because she hadn’t been here long and she didn’t yet have any friends, which was why she had to walk to the hospital Wing without any help, which had taken her absolutely ages. It was good to hear Emile wanted to practice with her, hopefully she would improve quite a lot with more practice with people other than herself.

Reducio
I'm trying a new format, so that's why it'll look a little different.

"Ooohh. An Auror sounds interesting. Are you into dark arts?" Emile asked. He knew what an Auror was - someone who investigated dark arts crimes, but he didn't really know anything beyond that. Luna seemed someone who might be interested in that sort of thing. "Or maybe are you interested in detective work?" He questioned. "Sorry for all the questions." He said, scratching the back of his neck with a weak laugh. Luna also seemed like someone very caring, that would probably be good for a healing job as well. "I'm sure you'd do great in either professions." He said with a thumbs up.

"Six weeks in the Muggle world?! Gracious, that must be awful. I'm glad we're able to learn magic and have access to this kind of thing.." He said, seeming extremely surprised, which he was. He didn't really know anything different from the idea that broken bones could heal in hours. He definitely had a lot to learn about the Muggle world.

Luna talked a lot like she hadn't been in the wizarding world for long. Emile himself was extremely interested in Muggles, as he had grown up in a sheltered wizard community from the time he was born. "Are you a muggle?" He asked, his bright green eyes sparkling with curiosity. He got out his notebook and his pen and flipped it to an open page, ready to write. "Can you tell me what a cellular telephone is? Like, what is the difference between a telephone and a cellular telephone?" He knew what a telephone was–he had grown up with one, but he had no idea what the difference between the two were. Anyone could tell he hadn't read many books on Muggle life, but it still interested him. He had so many questions that he wanted to ask her along with that first one. How do you use the subway, and what's an...Uber?
