It was early morning, the sun was shining right into the left hand side of the room through a crossed-patterned window. The light was hitting right for Bloom's face. When it got brighter minute by minute, her ears began to work and her face scrunched up from the lack of comfort of the light.

Blinking once, then twice, Bloom opened her eyes and looked around. Where am I? she thought. Laying down, she tried to prop herself up but found herself in dire pain. "Ahh," she hissed, and she laid back down, looking at her stomach. It was bandaged tightly, showing a bit of blood that was trying to seep through, dry.

Sighing, she closed her eyes. How she made it to the hospital wing was unknown to her, however, she was lucky to be safe and sound. Was it Reid? she asked herself, wondering if Reid was the reason for bringing her here. If so, then she for sure owed him one for helping her out of such a terrible situation. One that could haunt Bloom for awhile. As her eyes were closed, she began to picture the eyes of the acromantula. She opened them quickly, her heart pounding.

Bloom was stuck in her mind and her eyes on her wound. She hadn't realized that there was someone coming up towards her.

There was a hesitation to visit Bloom, he already was walking on thin ice after this had happened. It cut him deep to have to go through this, especially with a position like this. He knew he would lose the badge soon, but what else could he do? His patience was wearing thin and it confused him as to why he had the worst luck in history. What would he even say to her? He was still thinking of what had happened, which was quite a horror story already.

It was difficult to say with how he would be around Bloom, especially after hearing what she said. Still, he felt that he should at least visit her a little. He didn't bring anything remotely fantastic but some candy he had gotten. Flowers were too odd in his eyes, what if she took it wrong? He went through the double doors, seeing Bloom in her bed. He hesitated, his feet wanting to turn back and perhaps come another time. He deeply exhaled, walking towards the girl to greet her.

"Hey, Bloom. Feeling better?" he asked, pulling a chair with him. It was a foolish question to ask, of course she just had an attack. Reid was in his uniform, his hair was pressed against his forehead - hiding a freshly dried wound. There were some cuts on him, yet nothing crazy like hers. He held up the bag of candy, a peace offering of what happened last night.

"I just wanted to give you this and check in on you." he said. His plan was to leave soon, afraid of running into her now new boyfriend Ben. It was tiring enough having to explain himself to other people, a part of him was dreading talking to Ben more. He hadn't felt this type of exhaustion, being emotionally drained and almost physically burnt out left him looking a little hollow.

He exhaled through his nose, trying not to remember last night so vividly. It was hard to even look at Bloom, he could have prevented this - but he couldn't and he didn't know how to. "I'm also sorry about all of this." If she never found him, if she never went to the greenhouse - his mind went through a million scenarios. His expression stayed sullen.

"Trouble usually finds me."

Bloom jumped when she heard Reid's voice. Her chocolate brown eyes looked at Reid, and she smiled at him. Bloom was happy to see Reid healthy and not on the hospital wing bed like she was. She was glad that he had come to visit her, and even better with some candy. Her smile still on her face, she reached for the candy that he offered her. She placed the candy in her mouth and chewed quickly before speaking.

"I'm so glad that you're okay," she started. "Reid...," Bloom paused. She did not know how to thank him; she was grateful for all he had done for her. She would have not only been acromantula food, but squashed by the willow tree. What even was that tree? And why was it on Hogwarts grounds? she asked to herself in the middle of her pause. She went back into reality.

"Thank you for saving my life. I owe you so much," she said, reaching out for his hand. She wanted to give him a friendly gesture, but for some reason, she felt that he was a bit distant. He didn't seem to stare at her a whole lot. But who could blame him? Bloom looked down at her stomach that was bandaged, her shirt slightly lifted. It must have been hard to see.

"You have nothing to be sorry about," she said, "If you weren't there with me, I probably would have been dead. You were there for me and I'm grateful," she added, trying to move up on the bed once more, but realized that it hurt to much. She hissed at the pain and placed herself back down. She didn't want to lay down, but it seemed like the only solution thus far.

News had reached Ben about Bloom the night before, mostly because he noticed she was not in the usual patrol area. At first he thought she fell asleep or was doing some studying. It wasn't until those damned paintings told him his adorable love had been injured that he learned of it. It was nearly the end of his shift and he rushed down to the hospital wing. He was told Bloom was asleep and he should return in the morning. That drove him crazy but he knew he could miss his first class anyways.

"Can I come in now?" he asked, now that it was morning and he could enter.

"Please, come in, she is awake," the nurse said, noting the grumpy tone from Ben.

The first thing Ben noticed when he entered the room was Reid standing near the bed. Second of course was Bloom half sitting up with candy in her hand. She was bandaged up but seemed to at least be talking and moving. That was something. He was still unsure what happened and he was a storm of emotion. It was overwhelming and he was unsure which mood to choose from so when he entered the room he frowned.

"What.. what happened?" he asked, choking over his concern and anger somehow combined. "Why wouldn't they let me in before?"

The last question was more for the nurse who was already gone. He was mad at having to wait this long and had had basically no sleep throughout the night. Bloom was more than a girl he liked. She was his partner and greatest friend at the school. He would feel so lost if she was gone. His eyes locked onto her for some time and rarely glanced towards Reid.

Why was Reid there and not me? I know she... why did this happen?

Ben felt sick to his stomach with nerves of all kinds. Did Reid cause this out of jealousy? The two had been friendly so far and even played some Football. He knew it was awkward but why would Bloom be with him? Why was she smiling at him at all? Did he hurt her? His mind was a mess and he didn't know what to do with himself. After a few moments he realized he had not even asked if she was okay.

"Are you okay Bloom? I've been up all night worried for you..." Ben commented, cringing internally that Reid somehow was here first.

It was just as he feared, the boyfriend of the clearly wounded girlfriend came and he was present. Reid wished to curse the being that gave him such luck. No one was this unlucky, maybe he really did get cursed. Was it because he airhorned Mrs. Offerson's cat off his mom's wall? Maybe. Whatever or whoever he crossed, it just kept giving him the worst obstacles and it was barely the half of the year.

Reid's stomach sank at the sound of his voice, the guy sounded genuinely worried and a little frantic. He jerked away from Bloom like he had just been burned with fire, giving the two space as the male Prefect came over. A part of him wanted to excuse himself, but it seemed too suspicious for him to just leave like that. He was there at the scene of the crime, he couldn't just stay silent.

"Something - a spider attacked her Ben. A spider and then this ..." He moved his hands as if he was trying to figure out the right way to explain it. "... Killer tree just attacked us too, I don't know - it happened so fast." There was no other way to explain it, he was still reeling back from the experience.

The fear was too recent and it brought him a lot of bad memories, one that was seeing Bloom get nearly eviscerated by a spider. "It was huge." he hoarsely spoke. "The spider." It might have looked smaller to the adults, but for his height and age - it was a titan. His jaw clenched, a grim look on his features as he tried to not join Ben in his panic. His hair was tousled even more with the hand that quickly raked through it in frustration.

Was it his fault? He didn't know, his reaction wasn't one that anyone would probably like. He didn't stun the spider and even if he wanted to, he didn't know how to. The whole time he spoke, his gaze tried to stay on the two Ravenclaw prefects, his normally tall upright frame was a little slouched.

He was just tired, a few days of rest felt like was all he needed. But whatever would happen today in the hospital room would probably end up haunting him too. After yesterday, he was quite set on learning how to cast defense spells now. He couldn't let something like this happen again, not to his friends.

Perhaps it was just Bloom's perspective, but there was a special moment she thought she had with Reid. She always knew that no matter what, there was still a hint, a spark that still liked him. Although his face tired, Reid had still made sure to visit her and make sure she was okay. Maybe it was the Hufflepuff in him, but she knew that just as much as she cherished his friendship, he cherished hers, too.

Looking into Reid's eyes, her focus was severed by the sound of Ben's voice echoing in the room. Bloom looked over at the door to find her boyfriend frazzled and confused as to why she was in the hospital wing in the first place.

"I'm okay," she said to the Ravenclaw Prefect. "Reid saved me," she added, looking back at Reid with a smile.

Ben had wanted to know what happened, but she was unable to find the words to explain as to what happened last night. Trying to think of the event, all she could see in her mind was the eyes of the large spider that she faced. Thankfully, Reid was there to explain everything to Ben. Bloom closed her eyes, trying hard not to think of that moment-- a moment that scared her for life. She imagined the tree in her mind. It was a large willow tree that looked centuries old. It looked eerie with the many branches and lack of leaves.

"My question is why does this school have a tree like that on the grounds?" she asked, opening her eyes in confusion.

Bloom looked at the two boys that were standing in front of her: her boyfriend and her best friend. She randomly smiled, happy to have both of them here with her. Bloom couldn't have asked for a better group to be around her. Her only problem? She had strong feelings for both of them. Knowing that she is with Ben, she knew that it was wrong to still like Reid.

"So, I heard the nurse say I should be out of this bed within a few days," she started, changing the subject in her mind. Bloom gently placed her right hand over her stomach where the bandages were. It stung only a little to touch it. She had no idea what the stab had looked like, but she knew she would have a battle scar forever.

Ben could feel his face heating up as he listened to the story. Reid had saved her. She was thankful for Reid. She smiled at him like he was her light in this darkness. He tried so hard to be a good boyfriend, a good friend, and a good person. Jealousy was never something he had to battle. Competition was something he learned. He knew how to beat an opponent and have grace about it but he also knew how to get too involved in something. It would be easy to turn that way now.

Does she still like Reid?

The thought seemed to echo through his head as Bloom continued to speak after Reid explained. His heart felt like a tumorous weight in his chest. His heart pained with each thump which was fast now as he could see Reid still out of the corner of his eyes. He took a seat near Bloom on the bed next to her, leaning close. Locks of hair fell in front of his face as he did so, hiding his expressions. When Bloom mentioned time in the Hospital Wing being a few days, his stomach dropped again.

"I'm glad you'll be okay," he said slowly, finally slowing himself down enough to talk. "I will be here every first period and between every class."

Something his father had taught him as a child that he never understood until now was coming in handy here. Be there no matter what even if you do nothing. Ben would be there, no matter what. He didn't know if he could help or what it meant but he took his Dad's advice seriously when it came to girls. After all, that big nerd got married somehow. No way was Ben planning a wedding, but he cared for Bloom a lot.

Does she still like Reid?

The thought crept back into his mind like a... like a spider spotting a trapped meal. Ben pushed at it but it lingered in the back of his mind. It wouldn't leave. He reached out and held Bloom's hand, finally looking up to smile at her. Although he was not crying, it would be obvious from his bloodshot eyes and a growing well of tears that he was close to that point. A genuine smile crossed his face as he looked at her, but deep inside he still felt the doubt.

Does she still like Reid?

For the first time in what was probably a minute, but what felt like hours, Ben glanced upwards towards Reid himself. The Hufflepuff boy seemed sorry and did not outwardly appear to be anything beyond friendly. Maybe Ben was over reacting to the whole thing. The Ravenclaw knew he tended to over think things to the point of self-destruction. It was likely he was just a friend who happened to be helping Bloom when this accident occurred. The tree and the spider could have been deadly. Ben should thank Reid for helping his girlfriend.

But, does she still like Reid?

"That tree is weird, I always avoided it on morning runs... now I know why..." he stopped, turning away from Reid now and back to Bloom, still holding her hand. "Is there anything I can do to help?"

The prefect squeezed her hand, gently, and looked to her for an answer. He hated feeling helpless and wanted to do something here beyond sit nearby. That did nobody any good in his mind, though he was forgetting his dad's words. Be there no matter what. To a woman it could be everything she wants even if you feel like it is meaningless. Ben felt useless.

Does she...

Reid felt out of place, he didn't know what else to say or do in this situation. He's said what he needed to say, done what he could have done. But how much of his presence was even needed at this point. There were bits of silence that made him uncomfortable and he was about ready to make a run for the exit. He didn't know if Ben was upset with him or anyone at all, he was worried about Bloom too.

But he wasn't a stranger to what happened if he intruded, he needed to read the atmosphere. "Hey, if you guys need anything. I'm around the ... uh, place." he spoke. Reid glanced over his shoulder, his hands now pushed deep into his pockets as he did so. There seemed to be more students coming in, he saw a few bringing some gifts - for a friend perhaps. Should he do the same to Bloom? He wanted to, but at the same time he was hesitating to.

Reid had his own worry about what his friend said last night. The Hufflepuff knew she spoke about him in a good light, one he often shied away from out of humility. He appreciated the gesture, yet he rarely asked for recognition in things. The attention was unwanted in most cases, he didn't want Ben to feel bad about not being there. He'd certainly feel that way if he was him. There was a level of appreciation he had for the both of them, regardless of amount.

But it was beginning to feel like he was the friend who would be hanging on the side. "Are you two going to be okay if I leave?" he asked with a slight smile. It was a little forced, but he tried nevertheless. The rest of the day needed to be spent alone, maybe the he'd stop by the Owlery like he always did and perch there.

Bloom was happy that Ben was there for her with anything that she needed. For the next few days, she needed the support and she was grateful to get it from Ben. She felt his hand on hers and the warmth of his hand made her melt ever so slightly. Human contact was what she needed after what had happened with a creature.

"Thanks, Ben," she said, softly, watching him sit near her on the bed. She looked at him, his locks of hair falling on his face. He was adorable and she remembered why she liked him. She smiled at her boyfriend, always wanting to help her. "I should be good for now," she added.

Bloom broke her eye contact with Ben and looked at Reid. He was planning on leaving. Please don't go..., she thought to herself. She did not want him to leave and enjoyed his company, but she knew that just as much as she had a terrible time last night, so did he. He was an eleven-year-old boy who witnessed his friend get stabbed by a spider and was dying. That was not normal and she knew that he would need some time alone.

"We'll be fine," she lied. I still need you, she thought. "Reid...," she started, a genuine smile appeared on her face. "Thank you for everything."

While her eyes reverted back to Ben, her mind was still on Reid. Where was he going? Is he okay? Did I forget to ask him if he was okay? Does that make me a terrible friend? Bloom felt stuck in her own mind, racing with one question after another.

Ben felt better as Bloom seemed to light up and respond well to his presence. The nagging in his mind never left, but it softened as he slowly settled down. She would be okay. Magic healed better than anything he had seen among muggles. Reid was a friend and he should trust him. He should trust Bloom. Ben was slowly getting a hold of himself, but he was far from okay.

"Reid..," he said slowly, glancing to the friend he had made recently. "We'll be okay, but no reason you have to leave if you don't want to go."

Had he just lied to Reid? Maybe, but he still held Reid in the friend category so it wasn't a total lie at least. He sighed heavily, trying to get rid of all the negativity built up within himself. Tears streamed down his face instead in silence as he closed his eyes, hoping to stop it. He would fail, and they would fall down his cheeks. The whole thing was too much for his little eleven year old emotions. Happiness, fear, anger, sadness, and whatever else all mixed into some strange feeling. He was at a loss.

I should have been there instead.

Ben forced a smile towards Reid before returning his gaze to Bloom. His heart warmed every time he saw her, no matter the circumstances. She would be special to him forever, no matter how things turned out. He dreaded the thought as he considered the chances of a relationship between people his age lasting. They never did. Did they? A couple having been together since 11 years old was almost unheard of in his little world. Did they stand a chance? More over thinking from Ben simply made the whole thing worse. He couldn't quiet the negative thoughts in his mind. Bloom was thankful for Reid's help, therefore Ben should be as well.

"Thank you, Reid," he added, his tone dry and empty.

His free hand came up to wipe tears away from his cheeks and he squeezed Bloom's hand again. She said she was good for now, but he wanted to do something. If he had to sit there all day he would find something that he could do to help or he would get kicked out trying.

Why doesn't Reid seem hurt at all?
