Her eyes still closed, Alexa groaned quietly. Everything hurt. That was all she could focus on at the moment; how sore she was. But then questions started popping up in her mind: why did she hurt? What had happened? And for that matter, where the heck was she?

Alexa opened her eyes, and blinked in surprise. She seemed to be in the hospital wing, in one of the beds. She had only ever visited the wing once in her first year, and then only just to see what it was about. She had never had any friends stuck in here. She had certainly never been stuck in here before.

That brought her back to why she was here, what had happened, and so on. As she moved slightly in the bed, wincing at her sore muscles, everything came rushing back to her.

She had been in a duel! Alina had been her partner, and they had been losing badly. The last thing Alexa remembered was getting blasted off her feet, hit by a spell. She didn't even remember landing hard on her back on the dueling platform. She had been unconscious before then.

So that's why she was here! Knocked unconscious in a duel. She wondered how Alina had fared. It hadn't been looking good when Alexa had been kicked out of the game, so to speak.

She rolled over onto her side, stifling another groan, and tried to relax.

Mentioning @Alina Rosier.

Ileen was nervous as she cautiously slipped into the hospital wing. The adrenaline from the duel was still rushing through her veins and heart was pounding. Although she had just won her first duel she was still struggling with the fact that she had attacked someone and thus hurt them – it was against her vow and even though she knew that everyone had known what they were getting into by joining the dueling team, she hadn’t had expected this piercing feeling of guilt. Ileen wondered what Professor Vernatis thought about her role in the dueling team…
It was really hard to combine the duelist and healer spirit, especially since she had spent the whole last year focusing on how she could heal harm and not cause it. Well, she had done it only a few minutes ago and now she had sneaked up here to check on the read headed girl she had sent to the ground with a Flipendo.

The young Slytherin grimaced at the memory and placed her hand on her belly where she had been hit by this attack herself. She felt the pain again, which had been much stronger than the small burns she had received from the Incendio. Oh, right, the Incendio. She looked down at herself once and registered the indiscriminate condition of her clothes, but who would care? What the young brunette did not see was the black stripe that ran down her right cheek. She had smudged soot from the burns on her face as she had brushed the hair from her forehead. And then she had sneaked away before she could be medicated. In fact, she was not so stable on her feet herself, but her guilty conscience and healing nature demanded that she checked on the girl.

All was quiet in the hospital wing and Ileen quickly looked around to see if she could spot the new healer, Professor Dupont, somewhere.
When she couldn't find him anywhere, she scurried quietly into the room and looked around. Only few beds were occupied, and it was not difficult to find the Huffelpuff girl. She even moved and had just rolled over to the side with a groan.
Ileen swallowed and hesitated before clearing her throat to get the girl’s attention. She had no intention to frighten or disturb her, so if Alexa asked her to leave again, she would do that. Looking around for some sort of chair she would carefully approach the girl. “Hey. Alexa, right? How are you? I wanted to check on you.” Ileen hesitantly would take one step closer. “Do you like chocolate? I brought you chocolate frogs.” With a slight smile the brunette would reach out and offer five of these sweets to the girl if she turned around. If not, she would place them on the small table next to the bed. She really wanted to know how the girl was doing, but found it too intrusive to approach her any closer without being asked.

Alexa heard someone clear their throat near to her bed, and cracked open her eyes. The figure was blurry at first in the harsh light of the room, so Alexa blinked a few times to clear her vision. When she realized who was standing before her, her eyes widened in surprise. Ileen, from the Slytherin dueling team she had just lost to. Why was the girl here? Her face seemed kindly, now that it wasn't fierce in expression during dueling. She didn't seem like the type to be here simply to gloat; her eyes were too kind for that. But still, why was she here, Alexa wondered.

Ileen soon made her purpose known. This was a friendly visit! Alexa thought it was very kind of her to come check-in on how she was doing. She smiled at the other girl. "I'm doing okay, thank you. Just a little sore." She laughed. "That's what I get for dueling, I suppose! How are you doing?"

Then the other girl offered her some chocolate frogs, and Alexa's grin widened. "I love chocolate! And this will start my collection of cards! Thank you so much!" She smiled again at the other girl, feeling absolutely no animosity toward her because of the recent duel results. Ileen seemed very nice, and Alexa wondered if they could perhaps be friends. She didn't have particularly many, as she was rather shy.

Ileen was relieved when she met the gaze of the green eyes and couldn’t see any serious pain or anger in them. Of course, it had been a supervised and organized event and all students had know what they were getting into, but still - it was good to not get judged for attacking and winning. The hardest judge of Ileen was she herself. It was her conscience that made her slide restlessly on the chair and knead her hands in her lap.
As the girl told her that she wasn’t seriously harmed the Slytherin relaxed a little bit and could not hold back a liberated sigh. Suddenly she felt lighter and a warm smile appeared on the brunette's lipps. She slightly tilted her head as the read headed Hufflepuff accepted her gift and her eyes widened in amusement. “What? You had no chocolate frogs so far? Oh, if you get more and get duplets, we can trade cards if you want. I almost have a complete collection and tons of duplets.” her dark brown eyes sparkled and carried away from her own speech she leaned forward. How was this possible? Collecting chocolate frog cards was fun. She could still recall the moment when she had gotten her first one. Poor girl! Now she was even more happy about her choice. Uhm, but back to the original topic.

Ileen blushed as she focused back on the original reason she had come here. After all, she wanted to make sure that Alexa was alright and not blabbing on her with chocolate frogs. She shook her head and brushed a strand of her dark brown hair from her eyes. “I’m glad to hear you are better. I’m sorry for hurting you with the attacks. Normally, it’s against my... “ She hesitated searching for the right words. “My values. But that's what dueling is all about, right?” Thoughtfully she glanced at the girl struggling to make her own dilemma clearer. "Y'know, I am actually working on becoming a healer, but I also want to practice spellcasting and dueling so you can see my conflict here." She chuckled without joy but with humor. She was overthinking the situation again. "What was your motivation to join the dueling team? And feel free to tell me if I'm bothering you. Then I will leave you be." She gave her a small smile and looked around. She wondered if Alexa's teammate was also around, but then she focused back on the girl in the bed. Ileen was curious what made other people join a professional fighting club and she wouldn't risk to miss the answer.

Alexa smiled up at the other girl as their eyes met. She could’ve sworn Ileen was checking her over for injuries, but Alexa was fine. Just a little stiff and sore! Even after the duel, Alexa couldn’t help but feeling a little embarrassed at how she had performed, and wished that her team might’ve beaten the other. But at the same time, even though it was part of the duel, the idea of knocking someone unconscious seemed repugnant to her. She could easily see herself in Ileen’s place, visiting an apartment in the hospital wing.

“For all that I am a chocoholic, I don’t have any chaplet frog cards, so this is perfect! I can start my collection,” she smiled warmly at the other girl when she mentioned trading duplicates. “I’ll definitely take you up on that! But I imagine I won’t be getting duplicates for a while, I have so many to collect!”

Alexa’s eyes widened at the apology. “Oh don’t be sorry! It’s all part of the duel, can’t be helped.” She listened to the other girl explain her values about being a healer, and she nodded. “Alina wants to be a healer as well, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t want to win a duel!” Alexa laughed slightly.

“My motivation?” Alexa was quiet for a moment in thought. “I wanted to be a better spell caster, for one thing, and my best friend joined, for another. Then another good friend joined after that, so it seemed like a good idea just to have something in common to do.” She smiled and blushed slightly, feeling as though she had been rambling. She was shy, but far less so than she had been her first year. It was much easier to talk to people now; but sometimes it still felt strange. " Why did you join?" She finally asked.

“Oh, no! You’re not bothering me at all! It was actually really nice of you to come talk to me,” Alexa smiled shyly. “Maybe, outside of the dueling, we could be friends,” she offered quietly.

Ileen chuckled softly and brushed a loose strand of her dark brown hair from her eyes. With this movement, a brief pain shot up her arm caused by the burn and the young girl flinched barely noticeable. Maybe she should take care of her own injuries soon. After all, it had been luck for sure that her and Alexa’s’ place was not switched. It could have ended the other way around as well - Ileen was honest enough to herself to admit that there was not much strength remaining in her. Maybe one or two more hits and she would have fainted.
I agree. Eating the chocolate is definitely one of the best parts.” She slightly shook her head and wrinkled her nose. “Even though it still feels kind of weird to eat moving frogs.” With a sight, she dropped her hands on her legs, causing a quiet clapping sound. “I think I will never get used to this. It just feels… wrong. But the chocolate is delicious.
The self-doubts about Alexa’s trading potential were just waved off by Ileen. “And don’t worry about it. I have tons of cards. Here, you can add these five to your set. Consider it as a starting package.” She pulled five bronze cards from her pocket and gave them to the Hufflepuff girl. “I hope you’ll get different ones from the frogs.

When the conversation turned to the healing versus dueling issue, Ileen tilted her head and smiled at the red headed Hufflepuff. It was good to know there were no hard feelings. “Fair enough. I guess ambition is a general thing that’s not only focused on a specific area. Winning feels good but bittersweet if you have to knock people out for it.” The young girl shrugged and took another chocolate frog from her pocket to eat it herself. “But it’s good to know that your friend wants to become a healer as well. We should take all we can get at this school here.
Thoughtfully, she shoved the frog into her mouth, trying as usual to ignore the fact that it was moving while she listened to the girl. A common hobby? Ileen blinked in confusion and wrinkled her nose again. Yes, she had been happy too, when she had realized that some of the few people she respected were in her dueling team as well, but that had been no motivation for her. It was a completely different view on the situation then her own and gave her something to think about.
Me? I-- I wanted to become a better spellcaster as well. And I think we all should be prepared for battle.” A shadow glided over Ileen’s face and suddenly she felt uneasy. There was the darkness that was waiting for all of them. How long could they run from it? The Hufflepuff girl in the bed seemed to be out of reach so far, but what about herself?

Her sinister thoughts were interrupted as Alexa approached her again. With a slight shake of her head the young Slytherin tried to get rid of the dark thoughts and focused back on her conversation. A warm feeling rose in her chest as the girl addressed her kind opinion about Ileen so honestly and she gifted the girl with a rare bright smile. “Any time. Of course I wanted to check on you. After all, I’ve sent you to the ground. Just promise me to visit me, too, when you knock me out and please bring chocolate.

Talking with @Ileen Knight.
Alexa chuckled along with Ileen. When the girl brushed a stray strand of hair from her eyes, Alexa noticed her flinch… Though she would’ve noticed nothing if she had been looking right at her. “Are you okay?” She asked with concern. Maybe Ileen wasn’t doing as well after the duel, after all.

Alexa laughed outright when Ileen scrunched up her nose and talked about feeling evening moving chocolate frogs. “I know exactly what you mean! It’s just a tiny bit creepy!” She laughed again, thinking of her first experience with a chocolate frog.

Alexa’s eyes widened as Ileen handed over five bronze chocolate frog cards. She reached out tentatively to accept them, greatly appreciating the generosity. “Thank you for much,” she said seriously. “This is really nice of you,” she added, smiling up at Ileen. “How many cards do you have in your collection?”

Alexa nodded in agreement when the conversation turned to healing and dueling, instead of chocolate. Ileen talked about ambition, and Alexa silently agreed with her. Ambition was something that drove you to do well, in whatever particular area you were ambitious. She used her own ambition to try to get the best grades she could, for instance. How then could it be a bad thing?

She chuckled slightly and even winced in sympathy when she mentioned winning being bittersweet because you have to knock someone out for it. “Yeah, I honestly don’t know how I would have felt if we had won. I mean, I wanted to win, but it’s not like I want to hurt people. May be bittersweet is the perfect word for it,” she finished thoughtfully.

She saw that the other girl made a slight face of confusion when Alexa mentioned joining the team because her friends had. There was something deeper here, Alexa knew, but she wasn’t sure how to ask yet.

When Ileen finally mentioned thinking they should all be prepared from battle, Alexa noticed she was uneasy here as well. So she had to ask: “Is everything okay?” She said very softly. Ileen was obviously worried about something, but what was it?

The smile Ileen gave her was a bright one, after Alexa spoke for a bit. It made her grin in response. Ileen’s whole face lighted up when she smiled; it was nice. “Of course I will visit you, if you are ever here, and if I have chocolate I will definitely bring it!”

No worries about the delay! Life happens, LOL!

Ileen wrinkled her nose and blinked when the girl did check on her. This was so considerate – especially regarding their positions right now. A soft smile tucked on the corners of her mouth and she waved it off with a slight shake of her head. “Yeah, don’t worry. These flames just caused a little burn. I will take care of it in a minute.” Ileen really should take a break soon. Now as the adrenalin was fading, she barley could stand on her feet. It wouldn’t take much to make her flop right on Alexa and to fall asleep on the bed. “I don’t know actually. But I almost finished my set and I have a lot for bronzes. So, don’t worry about it, I’m glad when I can help you start your own collection.

As the Hufflepuff agreed with her, Ileen tugged at a loose thread on her robe with a slight smile. Her brown eyes were fixed on her feet and she thoughtfully bit her lower lip. It was nice to know someone else shared her thoughts and concerns about hurting people. Maybe this school wasn’t doomed after all and it was only a sad trick of destiny that Ileen mostly had ended up with crazy kids. Or that other Hufflepuff girl she had met at the lake last year had been right and all the nice people had been sorted into Hufflepuff… Why not her then? Okay. She should stop that – it wasn’t the time for self-pity.

When Alexa asked her again if everything was okay, she was thrown back into reality. Blinking in confusion she looked back up. “Huh? Oh, yeah. Thanks.” She awkwardly chewed on her lower lip again, the thing with the shadow and the fight club still in her head. She had to suppress the urge to rub her arms to get rid of the chill she suddenly felt. No, se wasn’t ready to talk about that. She hadn’t told anyone yet – no one. Not even her best friend that she was afraid of the dark ever since, that her nightmares had returned…
So, when the girl promised her to visit her if she was knocked out, Ileen gladly took up the topic. “Well, that’s good to know. Next time I hope you are not ending up here.” She gave her a soft smile and stood up with a sight. “I probably should get going. It’s good to know that you are okay. I hope you are better soon. Maybe we can talk sometime. Take care.
With that the young Slytherin girl would leave the girl if she was sure the Hufflepuff was okay. She needed to get some rest in her dorm or she would collapse.
